Ninth album from the RnB diva celebrates the 20 years sinceher breakthrough album 'Control', in which time she has arguably eclipsed the success and fame of her elder brother, becoming the biggest-selling female artist in the world. With Jermaine Dupri joining as producer alongside Jackson regulars Jam & Lewis, '20 Y.O.' moves away from the slow jams featured heavily on her recent albums and marks a return to the uptempo dance sound that made her name, with the lyrics of some songs referencing those of tracks on 'Control'. Includes the singles 'Call On Me' and 'So Excited'. Top 5: 01. So Excited (Feat. Khia) 02. Call On Me (Feat. Nelly) 03. Enjoy 04. With U 05. Get It Out Me
  8. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/PRERELCDCAGUIL.JPG 02. Christina Aguilera - Back 2 Basics Back to Basics, Christina Aguilera's first disc in four years, refines and clarifies the--let's call it "sexy"--aura surrounding this platinum firebrand. Here, the best belter in a class that counts Jessica Simpson and Britney Spears on its roll call has turned her attention to love songs: the supercharged and ubiquitous first single "Ain't No Other Man," for one, and the hushed stunner "Save Me from Myself" for another. That doesn't mean she's foresworn being nasty, though. Dive deep into this set, past the gorgeous crackle that frames the old-school jazz-, blues-, and soul-inspired tracks on the first disc, and you'll reach a playful and familiar raunch; "Candyman" celebrates a "one-stop shop" who "makes the panties drop" to a boogie-woogie beat, and "Nasty Naughty Boy" sends out a heated, big-beated invitation to "sip on my champagne/Cause I'm gonna give you a little taste/Of the sugar below my waist." Thoughtful listeners should snap out of their fascination with Xtina's undiminished yet newly un-tramp-like sexuality, though, because what they'll really want to focus on throughout these 22 tracks is the honest-to-God artistry. While the rock producer Linda Perry helps disc two pop in interesting and unexpected ways (check the muffled blues number "I Got Trouble" and "Mercy on Me," an obvious nod to Fiona Apple), DJ Premier, a mainstay on Jay-Z and Nas projects, pipes a batch of aural high-fives into the nostalgia-bitten first disc (the deep-down funk of "Back in the Day," the strut-strut early hip-hop sound of "Still Dirrty"). Their nudges aside, though, Back to Basics is all Aguilera's baby--she executive-produced, and she's found herself artistically. Nobody would argue, in fact, if she swiveled around the chorus to "Ain't No Other Man," written for her husband, and aimed it at herself: "You got soul, you got class/You got style, you're bada Top 5: 01. Hurt 02. Ain't No Other Man 03. Save Me From Myself 04. F.U.S.S 05. Welcome
  9. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/82876803302.JPG 03. Pink - I'm Not Dead Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula. I'm Not Dead touches on bulimia ("Stupid Girls"), war-mongering politicians ("Dear Mr. President"), teen angst ("Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self," "Runaway"), overheated pickup artists ("U + Ur Hand"), and gross materialism ("I Got Money Now"). None of it, in other words, is for featherweight listeners. Then again, none of it suits eggheaded college tastemakers either. Where this translates, then, is with those willing to man up and embrace what makes Pink Pink: her spellbinding ability to render rebelliousness in all the many colors of the rainbow. Neil Young-inspired acoustic guitar is sketched into "The One That Got Away," but it's just as quickly scribbled over by Joan Jett-style ranting (on "Long Way to Happy") and Janis Joplin/Joss Stone-fueled howling (on "Who Knew"). Even R&B gets its turn ("I Got Money Now"). The album also includes appearances from the Indigo Girls, who duet on "Dear Mr. President," and Pink's father, who joins for the hidden track "I Have Seen The Rain." Pink pulls all of this off, and probably without even breathing hard. She's not dead. Top 5: 01. Nobody Knows 02. Who Knew 03. Stupid Girls 04. U & Ur Hand 05. Cuz I Can
  10. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/9853919.JPG 04. Nelly Furtado - Loose The buzz for Nelly Furtado's Loose began before the music was even recorded, with the announcement that legendary hip-hop knob-twirler Timbaland (Missy Elliott, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake) would act as co-producer. The question on fans' minds: what would it sound like when a hip-hop kingpin collaborated with an artist who culls inspiration not just from pop music, but also her own Portuguese roots? As it turns out, Loose incorporates a number of different styles along its journey, but is--surprisingly--primarily divided between '80s-influenced electronica and latin-infused pop. This disc is very different from Furtado's previous CDs, a fact immediately evident from track one, the new wave-affected "Afraid." A strong opener, the song is the beginning of a 1-2-3 punch of uptempo, infectious dance floor beats. The second cut, "Maneater," also proves to be incredibly catchy, but the verses and keyboard sound too much like they were plucked from electroclash artist Peaches' tree, and originality is lost. The perfect summer pop song follows, the massive hit "Promiscuous," which features clever interplay between Furtado and Timbaland on their sassy duet. From that point, Loose oscillates between the Miami-affected sounds of R&B, Latino pop, and reggaeton ("Showtime," "Te Busque," and "No Hay Igual" respectively) and the aforementioned '80s vibe ("Glow," "Do It"). Fans will hear Furtado at her vocal best on "Say It Right" and "In God’s Hands"--two of the most lyrically compelling tracks on the disc. Top 5: 01. All Good Things (Come To An End) 02. Maneater 03. Te Busque (Feat. Juanes) 04. Say It Right 05. Promiscious (Feat. Timbaland)
  11. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/PRERELCDBEYONC.JPG 05. Beyonce - B'Day History may prove Beyoncé's B'Day to be a rare double-whammy of an achievement. Not only is it destined to hold up as one of the thumpingest, most polished-sounding discs of 2006, it's also bound to loose a new phrase into the popular lexicon: a "freekum dress" (n.), as described on a same-named track halfway through this excellent CD, is a "right-fittin'" garment owned by every woman; "when they act wrong, that's when you put it on." Linguistic hijinks aside, here is Beyoncé as the public rarely sees her: fully liberated and artistically fearless. "Ring the Alarm," a big-banging, fire-alarm-clanging wake-up call to a cheating man, finds her seething; "Kitty Kat," a feline-like size-up of a stale relationship helped along by the still innovative Neptunes, shows her spurned; the womanly, fire-in-the-belly come-on "Suga Mama" gets her way, way worked up; and the crackling, vocally volcanic "Resentment" steeps her in Aretha-caliber soul. For all the disc's solo trailblazing, though, where it really soars is on one of two duets with Jay-Z: While "Up Grade U" chugs along entertainingly enough about the good life ("I'm talkin' spa bags and fly pads and rooms at the Bloomberg"), opener "Deja Vu" blasts out a bomp-bomp beat nobody with a head to nod could resist. Cake, candles, and Cristal or no, B'Days rarely get this good Top 5: 01. Irreplacable 02. Ring The Alarm 03. Deja Vu (Feat. Jay-Z) 04. Upgrade U (Feat. Jay-Z) 05. Listen
  12. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/GWENPRECD.JPG 10. Gwen Stefani - The Sweet Escape Former No Doubt frontwoman continues her reinvention as America's bad-girl pop queen with this follow-up to her 2004 solo debut 'Love Angel Music Baby'. This album sees her working again with the likes of the Neptunes, flirting with various genres from electro to pop and includes the single 'Wind It Up'. Fave Tracks: Early Winter, The Sweet Esacpe (Feat. Akon), 4 In The Morning http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/82876815852.JPG 09. Shakira - Oral Fixation Vol.2:repackeged Second English-language studio album from Colombian-born artist Shakira. This is the follow-up to her 2001 debut 'Laundry Service' and again sees her fuse South American pop with a traditional dance sound. The album features renditions of 'En Tus Pupilas' and 'Dia Especial' which were previously released in her native tongue. Written and produced by Shakira, the recording also includes a collaboration with Carlos Santana on the track 'Illegal'. Fave Tracks: Illegal (Feat. Carlos Santana), Don't Bother, Dreams For Plans http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/CIDX8162.JPG 08. Sugababes - Taller In More Ways:New Version This new version of the album features the brand new track "Now You're Gone", plus fantastic photos of the new line up. The girls have a very busy schedule ahead including a sold out UK headline tour in March and April, supporting Take That in June, a nomination for best single at the Brits, plus an extensive promotional plot for forthcoming single "Red Dress" out on the 6th March. And on top of all that they have just been named as the 'faces' of Pretty Polly. Fave Tracks: Ugly, Red Dress, Now You're Gone http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/PREJAMELIAWALK.JPG 07. Jamelia - Walk With Me The queen of UK RnB follows 2004's top 5 smash 'Thank You' with this third studio album, which sees her bringing a harder edge to her sound. The album is fuelled by a series of frenetic, dancefloor-ready belters including a co-write with hip hop legend Afrika Bambaataa, but Jamelia does not neglecther soulful R&B roots. The result is a varied, fully realized album which many are calling her finest work to date. Includes the single 'Something About You'. Fave Tracks: Something About You, La La Love, Beware Of The Dog http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/3784412.JPG 06. All Saints - Studio 1 Third studio album, their Parlophone debut and the first since 2000's 'Saints And Sinners', from reformed Brit girl group still amazingly popular and credible five years after their initial acrimonious split in 2001. Recorded with their longtime producer KG, Greg Kurstin (Peaches, Lily Allen) and Rick Nowels (Madonna, Dido), this album builds on the classicsassy All Saints sound, while adding reggae and ska influences in a nod to the legendary Jamaican studio of the title. Includes the single 'Rock Steady'. Fave Tracks: Rock Steady, Fundamental, Chick Fit
  13. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/9889349.JPG 15. Mary J. Blige - The Breakthrough 'The Breakthough' is the seventh album from one of America's most popular R&B singers Mary J. Blige. Featuring guest production and appearances likes of Rodney Jerkins, Jay-Z, Will.I.Am and female rapper Brooke, the album is a mix of adultR&B and slick hip hop production. The single 'Be Without You' is also included. Fave Tracks: Be Without You, One (Feat. U2), Take Me As I Am http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/JRCD78960-2.JPG 14. Monica - The Makings Of Me she also worked with big names like 'missy elliot, swizz beats, twista & more...' My favourite tracks on the album are: 'Everytime the beat drop' - 'Raw' - 'My everything' - 'Gotta move on' - 'Get away'... that is litrually half the album as there are only 10 songs... but top quality 10 songs!... Fave Tracks: Why Her?, A Dozen Roses (You Remind Me), Getaway http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/SUGAPRECD.JPG 13. Sugababes - Overloaded: The Singles Collection 'Overloaded' is a career-spanning greatest hits package from the most successful girl group of the noughties, Sugababes. A pop group that have never shied away from the edgier side of pop, Keisha Buchanan and co. have topped the charts allover the world with their catchy brand of urban pop music, and this compilation is sure to prove popular with their legions of fans. Includes the singles 'Freak Like Me' and 'Round Round'. Fave Tracks: Too Lost In You, Ugly, Freak Like Me http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/LFC701964-2.JPG 12. Ciara - The Evolution Ciara's second album follow up to her debut "Goodies" which sold around 5 million copies worldwide. This album includes 50 Cent and Chamillionaire. Includes the hit singles: Promise and Get up, which appears also on "Step-Up" soundtrack. Fave Tracks: Promise, C.R.U.S.H, My Love http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/82876832152.JPG 11. Jessica Simpson - A Publc Affair I love the eighties sound, I believe some of the catchiest music came from the eighties and I love the way Jessica Simpson has made such an easy album to listen to. It's not screechy, no vocal gymnastics, just an album you can listen to whilst doing the housework and dance about to. Fave Tracks: I Belong To Me, A Public Affair, The Lover In Me
  14. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/1717286.JPG 20. Emma Bunton - Life In Mono Third solo album from former Spice Girl, Emma Bunton. The release ties in with her appearance on BBC's "Strictly Come Dancing" and includes a cover version of 'Downtown' which wasreleased as a single in aid of Children In Need. Fave Tracks: Life In Mono, All I Need To Know, Downtown http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/CDV3020.JPG 19. Kelis - Kelis Was Here 'Kelis Was Here' is the fourth album from multi-platinum R'n'B diva, Kelis. Drawing on much the same formula as her 2003 hit 'Milkshake', the album pops and fizzes with raunchy rhythms and suggestive lyrics, as well as some fantastic production work from the cream of R'n'B's hitmakers. Includes thesingle 'Bossy'. Fave Tracks: Goodbyes, Blindfold Me, Lil' Star http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/PRERELCDBLIGE.JPG 18. Mary J. Blige - Reflections: A Retrospective an essential CD for anyone who likes MJB in particular, or hip-hop/soul in general. only complaint is that it could have been a double-disc!! most the classic tracks are here but with her back catalogue it could have been bigger and (slightly) better. 4 new tracks on the CD all of which are good ... standout 4 me from the new material is King & Queen (with John Legend) - perfectly suited artists who should do more 2gether! Fave Tracks: We Ride (I See The Future), MJB Da MVP (Feat. 50 Cent), Reflections (I Remember) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/PREMOLOKOCAT.JPG 17. Moloko - Catalogue: Best Of Roisin Murphy and Mark Brydon started delivering offbeat electronic-pop hybrids back in the mid 90s. Following their successful (and defiantly quirky) trip hop manifesto Do you like my tight sweater? they moved gradually from the periphery to the pop charts via subsequent albums I Am Not A Doctor, Things To Make And Do and Statues, which spawned the hit singles ‘Time Is Now’ and ‘Sing It Back’ amongst others. These two cuts, alongside one of their early hits, ‘Fun For Me’, are the three songs Moloko fans probably know the best on this retrospective collection, and the three tracks long term fans will probably know best. Fave Tracks: The Time Is Now, Familiar Feeling, Sing It Back http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/9878575.JPG 16. Rihanna - A Girl Like Me Swift follow-up from young Barbadan urban diva to her 2005 debut 'Music Of The Sun', which sold well on the back of thereggaeton-inflected, omnipresent radio smash 'Pon De Replay'. This second album features more infectious, Carribean influenced dance-pop, but is also influenced by rock music and includes songwriting contributions from RnB artist Ne-Yo, who wrote Mario's enormous smash hit 'Let Me Love You'. The single 'SOS', which samples Soft Cell's classic version of 'Tainted Love', is also included. Fave Tracks: We Ride, Unfaithful, SOS
  15. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/1707562.JPG 25. Fergie - The Dutchess After spending a long time dreaming of a solo career, Fergie's debut solo album is finally here, and it's quite possibly one of the top debuts of the year. It's a fun and versatile album, with Fergie's engaging personality stamped all overit and it doesn't have too much in common with the Black Eyed Peas. With 'The Dutchess', Fergie shows that she has tremendous potential, beyond what she has shown as part of the Black Eyed Peas. This is evident mainly in the ballad, 'Finally', where Fergie's voice is simply stunning. This was well worth the effort. Fave Tracks: Fergilicious (Feat. Will.I.Am), London Bridge, Glamorous (Feat. Ludacris) http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/9840363.JPG 24. Dannii Minogue - Hits And Beyond 'Hits And Beyond' brings together on one disc, the biggest singles by Australian popster, Dannii Minogue. Musical talent obviously runs in the family, as this album shows that Dannii is more than a match for her sister Kylie in the pop diva stakes, from summery pop anthems to dance hits. Includes the tracks 'Put The Needle On It' and 'This Is It'. Fave Tracks: Don't Wanna Lose This Feeling, I Begin To Wonder, All I Wanna Do http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/7567839312.JPG 23. Cassie - Cassie 'Cassie' is the the debut album from the exciting and wildly talented US R'n'B artist of the same name. Combining smooth, modern R'n'B sounds with a distinctive singing voice, hervocal stylings have been compared to everybody from Ciara to Beyonce. Includes the tracks 'Me & U' and 'Miss Your Touch'. Fave Tracks: Long Way 2 Go, Me & U, Kiss Me http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/BEVKNIGHTBEST.JPG 22. Beverley Knight - Voice:Best Of Greatest hits collection from critically acclaimed UK soul diva heavily influenced by Sam Cooke and Aretha Franklin. This album compiles tracks from her four studio albums and showcases the broad range of styles she has covered including classic soul, contemporary RnB and pop-rock. Includes a coverof Robbie Williams's 'Angels' and the new single, a versionof the Erma Franklin classic 'Piece Of My Heart'. Fave Tracks: Shoulda Woulda Coulda, Keep This Fire Burning, Get Up! http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/82876789622.JPG 21. Fantasia - Fantasia 'Fantasia' is the second album from American Idol season three winner, Fantasia Barrino. With a voice reminiscent of some of Motown's finest female singers and tight, modern production from the likes of Missy Elliot and Swizz Beatz, this album is sure to appeal to fans of artists such as Beyonce and Mariah Carey. Includes the track 'Hood Boy'. Fave Tracks: When I See U, I Feel Beautiful, Not The Way That I Do
  16. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/RUDEROBBIEPRECD.JPG 30. Robbie Williams - Rudebox The follow-up to 2005's 'Intensive Care', 'Rudebox' is Robbie's seventh studio album, and is sure to add to his album sales which already top 45 million worldwide. Moving away from his usual ballads and uptempo pop songs, Williams experiments with a fresher, hip hop sound, with suprisingly successful results. Robbie has also recruited a team of production superstars to help him hone this new sound, including Mark Ronson, William Orbit and the Pet Shop Boys. Includes the single 'Rudebox'. Fave Tracks: Lovelight, Rudebox, The 80's http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Middle_Images/HMV/82876870682.JPG 29.
