Big Songs That Were Ineligible For The Charts
SyCo/Sony specifically requested that the performances be chart ineligible to avoid influencing the competition and compromising the narrative of the TV show.

Big Songs That Were Ineligible For The Charts
When did they start ignoring 3" CD sales? In 1998, Garbage's 3" CD format for "Push It" counted towards its chart entry, as the Music Week chart commentary on the charting week specifically mentions the percentage of the sales that the 3" CD generated. The other 5 3" CDs were not counted because they were a fourth format so released a week after the other formats, in addition to exceeding running time. I'm pretty sure Catatonia had a 3" CD for their 1999 lead single too.

OCC : Kylie's #2 Sales
To be fair to I Believe In You's sales, the album it was on was released two weeks before it and has sold a million copies in the UK. Perhaps just Kylie's fanbase felt the need to buy the CD single and everyone else was content with their copy of Ultimate Kylie. Also it *was* 2004.

What happens if a CD is returned and a refund is given?
If often wondered if the cumulitive sales stated by TOCC ever include sales from shops which dont report sales for the charts (a lot of indie shops), and if this explains why the totals given by TOCC and Music Week dont always match sales figures released by labels, etc. (apart from the obvious reason of sales embellisment). And what about when shops sell import albums instead of the UK pressing (parrallell importing, which was much more prevalent in the 90s before UK labels started pressing discs with UK-only bonus tracks). Are those figures included in either the charts or cumulitive totals?

Drops to outside the Top 40 from very high positions
Thats strange why it would be in that book about Garbage if there was others predating it by a decade.

Drops to outside the Top 40 from very high positions
Just checked for clarity 30/05/1992 Shut Up And Dance ''Raving I'm Raving'' {2}-15->2 05/10/2002 Garbage ''Shut Your Mouth'' {20}->1 Garbage must have been the first single to spend a single week in the Top 20 and then not appear in the Top 75 again. It's mentioned in a few editions of the Guinness Book of Hit Singles, but I think I forgot the single week part. Not the most enviable chart record to have.

Drops to outside the Top 40 from very high positions
Shut Your Mouth was in fact the very first single to drop out of the top 75 directly from the top 20. In all fairness, it was a limited edition single of 15K copies and it hung around the 75-80 mark for its second and third week.

Obscure chart single formats???
Garbage released five 3" CD singles from 1998-1999. Subsequently a few other artists released them, Catatonia a year later sticks out in my mind. In 1999, Suede released Electicity as a MiniDisc single, and if memory serves right, it was the first one to be allowed to count towards the Singles Chart.

Kylie's "The One" was first out in 2006 on a dance comp.....
Someone over at the Kylie.com forum picked up a copy of the 2006 compilation MC Master Cuts - Funky House Which came out on the Freemason's label and noticed this - http://www.amazon.com/Mastercuts-Funky-Hou...5779&sr=8-1 Now I suggest you check out track "I'm The One" by Laid featuring Emma, it is the same track as Kylie's version of "The One". There is a suspicion that Emma is actually Kylie incognito - ''The One'' was co-written by someone named Emma Holmgren, who is non-existant on the web, apart from a few writing credits while Laid dont have a myspace page, or official site either, while an MP3 of the song posted and pitched up to 'prove' that it's Kylie was removed from the Kylie forum. The backing is almost the same too...its a bit more orchestral at the beginning, but has the same Guitar theme, drum beat and all going through it.

Woolies singles chart
Woolies, like HMV only stock "their" chart. Up until recently, it was more or less guaranteed if Woolie's didn't stock your single then bye bye any chance of a Top 30 chart position. I think it's terrible really, I didn't think it's a fair chance for any artist - who is a shop like Woolworths (which isn't even a proper record store) to by default dictate who will have a hit? Think about it this way - in many towns Woolworth's IS the only record store and only hardcore fans will travel to the next town or nearest city to pick up a single release. The download thing is obviously affecting the impact Woolie's chart has on the proper UK singles chart, but the store still affects the albums chart - have off the back catalogue dreck that fills up the chart is 'coz Woolie's is over concerned with cheap compilation promos.

UK - Top 75 Singles / Albums - 12/1/08
I know that Garbage (and "Shut Your Mouth") has the distinction of having the first ever single to appear in the Top 20 one week (October 2002) and not be in the Top 75 the next, it was a limited edition of 15,000 copies - but sold enough the following two weeks to make the top 80. Now The Pogues will overtake that achievement by having the first song to appear in the UK top 10 and not be in the Top 100 the following week. Due to the new chart rules, I guess only seasonal singles will have this kind of drop off in the future, unless a record company deletes the song from online stores.

ASCAP posts titles of Shirley's songs with Greg Kurstin
ASCAP.com posted the names of sixteen of the songs Shirley has worked on with Greg Kurstin for her album - * "Don't Want Anyone Hurt" * "Don't Want To Pretend" * "Gone Upside" * "Hot $h!t" * "Kid Ourselves" * "Lighten Up" * "Little Dough" * "No Regrets" * "Pissholes" * "Pure Genius" * "So Shines A Good Deed" * "Spooky" * "Stop" * "Sweet Old World" * "The Desert" * "To Be King" (Above songs credited to Kurstin / Manson) These titles are the first confirmed names for any tracks Shirley has done since the Garbage hiatus (Not including any new Absolute Garbage tracks or her duet with Eric Avery "Maybe"). Manson has collaborated with a number of people on the project including fellow Scottish songwriter Paul Buchanan, US rock musicians Jack White, Billy Corgan, Beck and James Bond soundtrack composer David Arnold. Garbage drummer and former Nirvana/Smashing Pumpkins producer Butch Vig is also co-writing and producing for her album. Greg Kurstin is also responsible for either co-writing or producing the following tracks (these might give an idea of the sound that Manson's songs might have): Kylie Minogue: "Wow", "King or Queen", "Magnetic Electric" Lily Allen: "Everything's Wonderful", "Not Big", "Alfie" Stefy: "Chelsea" Stephanie MacIntosh: "Tightrope" Sophie Ellis-Bextor: "Catch You"

Early sales figures
"Slow" only sold 30 odd thousand copies in it first week, and I'd imagine 2 Hearts will pull in the same. Bleeding Love is really huge competition and I don't think Kylie can topple that. I don't think the Spice Girls will either.
