I have to agree on Dennis (and Lord knows a few months I'd have rather eaten a small, furry rodent before praising the character of Dennis). He's pretty much the only character who makes Leanne bearable, and as far as family relationships go, he and Dodger have a warmer and more watchable relationship than Dodger does with his own brother.

I agree that with On the state of EE at the moment, it does seem to be experiencing a bit of a downer at the moment and I can see why Kirkwood was booted. The saving grace at the moment is the aftermath of the Ben/Heather fiasco, which has really revived the characters of Phil and Shirley (Phil in particular was on the verge of becoming irredeemably unsympathetic until the murder), and seems to be about to do the same for Ian. It's also brought some long overdue attention to Jay, and highlighted that Jamie Borthwick really is potentially a fantastic future asset for the show.

PREACH IT For my money, Don't Stop was a better track than 9pm..., but just suffered for being such a similar track and being released second. It's much more urgent and energetic.

Ridin' Solo is a wonderfully uplifting feelgood track, even if Jason DeRulo has descended into a mindless puddle of shit thereafter.

It is very much a case of the show not knowing how to use their best assets (or even knowing who those assets are). The current producer, Emma Smithwick, is completely obsessed with the sixth form teen crowd; she's gone on record to state that her personal favourite character is Maddie (who at best is a smug and hateful wretch) which really just says it all. Evidently completely clueless and out of touch with the viewing public. A focus on the weaker members of the cast and a lack of any real blockbuster storyline this year are sending the show back into the doldrums it had only just picked itself back up from with the Silas plot. The only halfway decent story they've had this year was Nancy's miscarriage; Jess Fox and Ashley Taylor Dawson both put in some stellar work, but after a couple of episodes they were shunted back to the backburner so that the focus could be put "back where it belonged" on the teens and the latest gay romance (and on that one, whilst I agree with Joao that Doug makes for a convincing gay, it's stretching plausibility that pretty much EVERY gay who has stepped foot in Hollyoaks in the past two years seems to fall in love with Ste, traditionally never the most appealing or pleasant of characters).

Heather's murder scene was SHIT. Anti-climactic and unless Heather's head really was made of jelly after all (quite possible), then there is no way that the rather feeble blow could convincingly have been enough to kill. And as ever with Psycho Ben scenes, I feel a little sad that we will never be treated to the Charlie Jones interpretation which let's face it would have brought about the end of the world.

This really is bloody terrible. If anybody was still harbouring hopes that Give Me All Your Luvin' was just a little blip, then this must surely dash those straight off. We are clearly very much heading off for a sub-par Hard Candy. Madonna has throughout most of her career been quite poptastic, but she's never been as disposable as this before. There's nothing about her recent material that stands out, and nothing that says that this is all coming from a woman who is easily one of the most iconic popstars in history. She's making it all too easy for people to fire back the term "reductive" at her. The track is slickly produced but completely unexciting, she's not making the slightest bit of effort to sing anymore, and if anybody thought the lyrics to Celebration were cheap, generic, and utterly derivative, then just wait for them to hear Madge asserting that "girls just wanna have some fun" and begging "DJ play my favourite song". It really is a throwback to the most basic of 80s pop fluff. The woman could very easily find herself to be over by the end of the year.
