http://www.jaeren-musikkfestival.no/bertine.jpg Bertine Zetlitz (born April 9, 1975) is a Norwegian pop singer who usually sings in English. I came across Bertine in one of those 'under-appreciated artists' websites type of thing :P lol She's got 4 albums out: Morbid Latenight Show (1998) Beautiful So Far (2000) Sweet Injections (2003) Rollerskating (2004) And 'My Italian Greyhound' is set to be released on the 11th September 2006. Her new single is called '500'. I'd say Bertine is an electro-pop artist. However, she also has some lovely ballads and is usually extremely different from everything you may have heard before! Oo and she's worked with Richard X :o :cheer: Here's a review of Bertine: 'Rollerskating' marks the timely return of Norway's premier dark-pop starlet Bertine Zetlitz. It's a fascinating and unique blend of pulsing electro, classic Disco nouveaux, twisted pop melodies and good old fashioned catchy choruses. It's Bertine as you know and love her, but with a new even more addictive sting in her tail. ‘Rollerskating' picks up the story from where its predecessor ‘Sweet Injections' left off. Here are brooding, pulsing tracks that are both easy on your ear and the dancefloor. Good old fashioned pop music that can casually flirt with your senses, infect your radio and ultimately your headspace. It sways effortlessly between emotions, moods and sensory experience. “It's Peter Pan meets Alice In Wonderland, playful and at the same time dark, that Scandinavian strangeness always comes through in the end. I wanted a mixture – I love the lightness of pop, but with some added substance.†These dynamics help establish ‘Rollerskating' as the defining Norwegian pop album it seems destined to become. A heady mix of classic 80's disco (‘Fake Your Beauty'), new wave digi-funk (‘Back Where I Belong'), to the blissful soul pop of ‘Want You', whilst ‘Candy' is punky neo-disco at it's finest. ‘Ah Ah' is driven by a fusion of layered programming, building melodies and acoustic guitars on a track that Madonna would give her flat cap for… ‘Rollerskating' the title track rides a seventies sounding soul-rock groove layered with harmonies, before segueing into the beautifully bare and emotive ‘Broken', where production flair is swapped for a simplistic click track, a subtle faultless vocal delivery and some thought provoking lyricism. Like its predecessor ‘Sweet Injections' it was recorded whilst living in a hotel for a month in London, this time with fellow Norwegian producer Fred Ball aka Pleasure (who released his own self titled album last year to widespread critical acclaim) in his home studio on the Portobello Rd (with the odd guest appearance of local & friend Brett Anderson of Suede on a rare guitar outing.) The collaborations with Ball are without a doubt amongst some of her finest to date, “We sat down to write for three days and at the end of it- we had five songs all of which are on the album, we're the same age, with the same references, and we both wanted to write good pop songs!†she says “It's so rare to connect with someone like that, it happens probably only once in your career, and it was so much fun. We will definitely be working together more in the future.†The result is an album that takes you from Madonna to Moroder via the two P's of Prince and the Pet Shop Boys, without ever sounding derivative or contrived. “This time around I listened to a lot of my favourite music, lots of early Prince, Phoenix, lots of music that Fred and I like. I wanted to create a strong album, it's nice to do the pop thing sometimes, but I wanted an album that was reflective of me†Bertine started on her musical journey at a young age, penning her first numbers aged just 12. After emerging from a more classical route and music college, she began to concentrate on her long-term fantasy to become a singer songwriter. Her debut album ‘Morbid Late Night Show,' released in 1998, was followed by the Tore Johansson (Cardigans) produced ‘Beautiful So Far' in 2000, before ‘Sweet Injections' was released in 2003, produced by electronic experts Howie B & Magnus Fiennes and two track with uber-producer Richard X (Sugarbabes, Rachel Stevens) including the hit single ‘Girl Like You' all to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success. After all let's not forget that Bertine is already a multiple Norwegian Grammy winner, has played to 60,000 people a night, alongside the likes of Chrissie Hynde and Sheryl Crow at Lilleth fair and has toured her three highly successful albums across the world. Bertine is already planning her dynamic live show and “Looking forward to the usual fantastic bus experience of hours on the road…â€, be sure to check it out in a town near you soon…As ever with Bertine expect the unexpected, a touch of flair and meticulous delivery…“oh and a new album every 18months.†If her previous output helped paint an ever growing picture of the wonderful world of Bertine Zetlitz, then ‘Rollerskating' suggests the future is not only bright and colourful, but that there is plenty more to come from this story. Bertine Zetlitz has created a new blueprint for Norwegian popmusic...so what are you waiting for? Time to get your skates on and join the party!
