Buzzjack CD Swap #6: Sign Ups
I can do it by the end of the week if you're happy to extend?

Arcade Fire 'Everything Now'
It's okay. I think the main issue is that the singles were so strong, especially 'Everything Now', the rest of the album rests in its shadow. It's a pleasant enough listen but it's not a patch on the first three I wouldn't say.

Buzzjack CD Swap #6: Sign Ups
I'll definitely do this - had some lovely albums created for me years ago.

Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton || Choir of the Mind
I recently picked up the 'Knives Don't Have Your Back' CD in a charity shop - hadn't listened to it in a while. Moderately high hopes for this but quite low expectations as the last two Metric albums haven't done anything for me. Any excuse to post this lovely thing, though: 0udJc_iMlAU

General Election 2017 - Part 2
I completely agree. The fanfare surrounding Corbyn looks exciting and groundbreaking but in reality, it seems he is succeeding in the heartlands only. I don't honestly think that he is appealing to those swing voters who many have a genuine say in the election. Those who back someone who appears 'safe' will vote May as Corbyn's policies appear too left-wing and extreme. I live in a very safe Labour seat (which upsets me as I do not like my MP at all as I find him to be contradictory and, quite frankly, useless) and my personal vote will mean very little but I will still vote as I always do. As things currently stand I am going to spoil my vote as I don't feel solace in any of the major parties' policies or ideas.

Arcade Fire 'Everything Now'
by far and away my favourite Arcade Fire song since 'Sprawl #2 (Mountains Beyond Mountains)' which is probably my favourite AF song of all time

* Unknown Pleasures XXIV (24) | Results *
My apologies for not submitting my results; it has been hectic recently at work and this just completely crept up on me. I hope some people enjoyed my entry, anyway, and I've enjoyed some of the songs I've managed to listen to!

I created a Spotify playlist last time and will probably do the same this time so if anyone wants a link just ask.

Mount Eerie 'A Crow Looked at Me'
An extraordinary look at how death affects oneself; this was written, recorded and released in the wake of the passing of the artist's wife, his partner for 13 years and the mother of his child, from pancreatic cancer last year. zGESP0iePmQ It is honest, painful and heartbreaking. It is also unbelievably beautiful and raw. All of the tracks are stand-out tracks to be fair, but my favourite is 'My Chasm': 4wHHgFz23pI I now wield the power to transform a grocery store aisle into a canyon of pity and confusion, And mutual aching to leave.

Ed Sheeran - ÷
I'm usually ambivalent about Pitchfork's content but I think they've hit the nail pretty accurately on this one. I didn't mind his first album, didn't care much for the second and I think this one is pretty dire. Formulaic and unoriginal, and I'm already dreading the fact that I'll be hearing 'Galway Girl' everywhere for the next six months.

Dirty Projectors 'Keep Your Name'
It is beautiful. Pretty haunting in places too.

2016/17 FA Premier League
Mourinho has transformed into such a moaner. Anyone who watched the game this week will know that the reason that they didn't win is because they didn't take their changes. It's really as simple as that; the Mata one in particular was one that should've been scored. Personally I think we defended fantastically and the fact that we had chances at the end, especially Hernandez's when he was one-on-one, was incredibly encouraging. I've been very impressed with our new boss and I think the team are rising to the challenge. If Snodgrass and Livermore didn't want to be there any more than fair enough - I'm just glad we've reinvested the money to improve the squad. I still think we'll have a battle on our hands to stay up but I'm much more optimistic now than I was when Phelan was there. Going to the game tomorrow - probably the first sellout at the KC for 3 years!

The xx 'I See You'
'Say Something Loving' is just wonderful. I do like the album as a whole but I'm not sure if I would say I enjoy it as much as their debut, although they are two completely different records in many respects.

I'm currently revisiting the (limited) back catalogue of Air France. Just a couple of EP's, mind. FTPO6XM_IxM

UNKNOWN PLEASURES ¤ 23 ¤ RESULTS
Sorry to bump this up but I made a Spotify playlist for UP that I am happy to share with anyone if they want to send me a message. It contains all but a few songs that aren't on Spotify, but I added those in through the MP3 files we were sent. If anyone wants a link please ask. (:

The xx 'I See You'
Personally, I like the more recent stuff way more than anything on their second album, which came across as an attempt to replicate the successes of the first and did so in a wholly ineffective way. I think they've developed as musicians a lot in the intervening years, so whilst their new sound isn't necessarily 'edgy' it does show progression. There's a pretty interesting article here which looks at the direct and indirect influence of The XX's music on other artists. For me, when you listen to their first album and look back at it now, you can appreciate the originality and freshness it brought, and I think the influence it had can be seen elsewhere. You only need to look at the success that Jamie has had as a writer and producer to note how pervasive the XX's style has become.

Physical Media
I purchased Kendrick's 'Good Kid, MAAD City' album yesterday and took it home to find a Kings of Leon CD in there... guttted. I mainly play CD's in the car nowadays. I have a Spotify account as well but there's something about having the CD which makes the music sound more... real ... in my imagination anyway!

Physical Media
I realise that this could be a discussion for the forum as a whole but I wanted to focus it on the indie/alternative/rock fans really. Do you collect physical media? I've grown up in the download/streaming age, really, but I have recently been getting into physical media. I only collect CD's (not managed to get into vinyl just yet!) and I absolutely love have the object in my hands. I go searching in charity shops, music stores, car boots etc. when I have the time. Yeah, a lot of what I'm after could be purchased online much quicker and easier but where is the enjoyment in that?! I just love finding something I've adored or something new in physical format. Some of them are out of necessity; Joanna Newsom's catalogue is not available on Spotify so I decided to find it in physical format. I've come across some really obscure stuff in the last 12 months or so. Locally, I've managed to get stuff from Broken Social Scene and Caribou to three Postal Service singles and Jenny Lewis and The Watson Twins. I'm always amazed by the variety of stuff I find.

Laura Marling - Semper Femina
i'm a big admirer of laura marling. i think her music has evolved and improved throughout her career but she's still maintained the raw quality that makes her so consistently good very much looking forward to this record 'my manic and i' is still my favourite laura marling song: djChY6Ol9ig

UNKNOWN PLEASURES ¤ 23 ¤ RESULTS
ah bit gutted that Beep My Beep didn't know slightly better; I thought it was sufficiently different enough (in this competition) anyway to stand out as something unique I really like that 'Girls' song - along with Let's Eat Grandma and Rainsford, they are the ones that I am still listening to. There were a few others that I liked but nothing else that really stood out. Thank you for running this competition. :jump:

League Cup 2016/17
mighty tigers in the semi-finals :funky: In all seriousness I hope that this cup run doesn't detract from our dreams of a top 20 place finish in the prem this season.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES ¤ 23 ¤ VOTING
voted There were lots of songs that I didn't mind this time around without actually liking them. I'd say I only really like my top two or three enough to listen to them again repeatedly. The next three or four are okay but the rest of the list was just the least objectionable really! Not bad songs but not particularly special.

UNKNOWN PLEASURES ¤ 23 ¤ VOTING
Just in the process of creating a Spotify playlist and then going to listen to this throughout the week. Unfortunately there are about six songs that aren't on there but I can import those ones from the MP3 pack, so thank you for putting that together.
