Every person is born with 12 1/2 notes (less than 2 octaves). Most singers have 2 octaves, great singers have 2.5 octaves, anything over 3 is pretty amazing. Leona's range is pretty much identical to Christina Aquilara's, 1 note short of 4 octaves. Except Leona has that extended head voice due to her classical training. Mariah's has 5 octaves but 1 of those octaves is whistle register and there are no songs that demand any notes in this range so its pretty useless other than to show off. Heres some more info -------------------------- The 2 Octave Scale Requirement: Soprano: C4 - C6 Mezzo-soprano: A3 - A5 (some say E3 - E6) Alto: F3 - F5 Contralto: D3 - D5 Tenor: B2 - B4 Baritenor: A2 - A4 Baritone: G2 - G4 Bass-Baritone: F#2 - F#4 Bass: E2 - E4 Voice Type (They may crossover from Soprano to Alto to etc.): Soubrette: A sweet, lightweight voice whose range is mostly in middle voice. Lyric Coloratura: A light, acrobatic voice, with a range into the 6th octave. Dramatic Coloratura: A voice with a beautiful lyric line, the agility to sing coloratura, and the capability of dramatic outbursts. Full Lyric Soprano: A sweet, graceful voice, with range similar to that of the soubrette but with a stronger quality, and stronger upper register. Spinto Soprano: A full lyric voice that can be pushed to dramatic climaxes. Dramatic soprano: A powerful, rich, emotive voice. Range from Bb3 or A3 to C6. Wagnerian soprano: A dramatic voice that can assert itself as an instrument over a large orchestra (over eighty pieces). Trial: a high, thin, nasal tenor, used for character roles. Named after Antoine Trial (1736-1792), a singer at the Opera Comique. Some singers compared to this scale and voice type.. (Full Voice Only: A.K.A: No Falsetto) Aretha Franklin - E3 - A5 Alicia Keys - E3 - G5 Anthony Hamilton - B2 - A4 Ashanti - A3 - E5 Avant - C3 - B5 Beyonce Knowles - B2 - G5 Brandy - D3 - D5 Cassie - A3 - A4 Cece Winans - E3 - F5 Celine Dion - A3 - G5 Cheri Dennis - F3 - D5 Chris Brown - C3 - Eb5 Christina Aguilera - C3 - G5 Ciara - F3 - R5 Corinne Bailey Rae - G3 - D5 Ginuwine - G2 - C5 India Arie - E3 - F#5 Jamie Foxx - C3 - C5 Jennifer Holliday - F3 - A5 Jennifer Hudson - E3 - C6 Jill Scott - G3 - C7 JoJo - E3 - G5 Karen Clark Sheard - E3 - C6 Kelly Clarkson - G3 - G5 Keyshia Cole - E3 - E5 Leona Lewis - C3 - G#5 Letoya Luckett - G3 - G5 Lloyd - C#3 - B4 Mariah Carey - A2 - A5 Mario - G2 - C#5 Mary J. Is that the one Ben Elton and Simon was laughing about on "this is your life"? Simon bought a whole batch and sent them to all his friends.

In head voice she did D6 on on "Bridge over troubled water" and E6 on "Could it be magic" and "Lady Marmalade". You can hear a G6 on her "Loving you" cover on youtube, these are whistle notes. Mariah can go into high seventh octave with whistle notes, but it can damage the vocal chords so not wise to do so, that's why she has lost all her middle range. Leona also hits a G#5 in full voice on "I have nothing" and I think on "Sorry seems the hardest word". She can do C4 in head voice, you don't actually realise it because she can mix both voices at once. Check out the first few notes of "I will always love you" but she does it all over the place in several songs. Katherine Jenkins can do 3 octaves in head voice.

Falsetto for men or head voice for women. Both are used interchangeably nowadays. Head voice+superhead C4-G6 = 2.6 octaves So you are right. Although the upper limit of her whistle register haven't been heard yet.

Yes, Kelly Clarkson was paid millions up front for "My December" even though they new it would flop, because that was the contract.

Actually I meant to say $10 miilion. She gets $2 million per album (Usually paid in advance) + with song writing credits (which she will have since she is co-writing) she will get 5 times the royalties (providing the album sells). But the real money spinners of course are the extra-curricula activities. ;)

Your assuming anyones still interested in the Spice girls, I think not. I hope Leona keeps the release date, just to keep those old tarts off the top.

^No, not all are writers, they are writers/producers. She is guaranteed £1m per album + sales + royalties + appearances + endorsements. If she doesn't clear £10m from this first album she can feel hard done by. and then theres the US.... Updated list Karen Poole has confirmed she is not on the album, producer Fernando is on, Dianne Warren is working for album 2. Dallas Austin Stargate Danja Kara Dioguardi Fernando Salaam Remi Ryan Tedder Walter Afanasieff Novel Wayne Wilkins Ne Yo Scott Storch Max Martin Damon Dash Jörgen Elofsson Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis Steve Mac Soulshock Carlin Diane Warren (album #2)

Schooling at Sylvia Young and Italia Conti in classical/opera says she probably forgotten more than you will ever know. How do you think she got that three octave falsetto.

I don't think so, Xtina is the only one who can be compared to Leona. Leona can and HAS blown Celine off the stage - recently - in Las Vegas.

There's a rumor going round that the Leona/Whitney duet has happened.

Play.com are listing the album release as Oct 8th. This has been recently revised from Sept 10th so it may be a realistic date. US release could be November but Jennifer Hudson is also releasing Nov 19th as they are both on J records they may not want these to clash.

What I mean is, If a million people like a singer and 2 million dislike them, it means they have a million fans, the 2 million are irrelevant. and some more news, The album has arrived at SONY/BMG and they have been listening to it. This is an email from Ged, the SONY chief executive to a contact, "Hey ****, the Leona album is sounding AMAZING !!!... WE are in the process of confirming the date at the moment. I will keep you posted "

^^ Well I bet you don't like Celine Dion either, lots of people don't. So what? She is still the top selling female in the world. The folks who don't like something/someone are irrelevant.

I don't think you quite understand what Leona's about, she is not a Kiddy pop singer with a mediocre voice that relies on being quirky like Lilly Allen or Kate Nash etc. These singers, as you say, soon dissapear once they go out of fashion. Leona is a octave-pumping big voice diva, and once established, they never go away, they are always in demand because there are so few of them of any note that can deliver a big stage performance. The only reference point in the UK to Leona is Shirley Bassey and look how well she went down at Glastonbury (and she's in her sixties). Albums are just the start of what Leona is going to be doing, she will undoubtedly be doing the Bond theme, film soundtracks, Broadway, commercials etc

Oh dear, do you suffer with short term memory loss? She is signed for 5 albums, $10 million. The have just invested millions in putting the first album together and they are spending millions on a worldwide launch. She going to be in every magazine and on every prime time TV show in the US.; How stupid would the suits at J records have to be to spend that money if they were not supremely confident that she is going to be a worldwide success?

From the "Sun" newspaper Video is up on Youtube When she is questioned on the album date, she says "November". So the album is finished, now the promotion begins There are also articles appearing in "Star" and "The Vibe" US magazines.

Dunno, says a new show called "Music week" but can't see any reference to it on C4. Leona's Bebo page has had a big makeover, it says her album is to due to hit shops very soon. http://www.bebo.com/Profile.jsp?MID=367137...erId=4234938661
