I'm in the process of re-building my website, so if you spot any bad links, do let me know. It also means that a couple of the books are offline for purchase right now. Other things will be added as well, as I transition to a Wordpress website layout which means I can accept comments and also make amendments more easily. Plus, I can give updates as to what's going on!
  2. I did think about limiting that and it is possible. That way only the highest entry would appear with full history. However, it’s rare that an artist has multiple appearances. 1964 for the Beatles is the largest and most well known example but there are others.
  3. Have a look at the sample (around Page 20 or so) as it list Billboard Best Sellers in Stores.
  4. This will have both UK and USA (Billboard) charts and will build into a resource showing most of the weekly charts.
  5. Some have requested a look at what years will be produced each week. The below is the plan for 2019. Please note that this may be subject to change and I can and will take requests (after the first few issues!) for specific years/weeks. Issue - Year 26-Mar-19 - 1949 02-Apr-19 - 1959 09-Apr-19 - 1964 16-Apr-19 - 1944 23-Apr-19 - 1953 30-Apr-19 - 1962 07-May-19 - 1946 14-May-19 - 1956 21-May-19 - 1966 28-May-19 - 1971 04-Jun-19 - 1945 11-Jun-19 - 1955 18-Jun-19 - 1965 25-Jun-19 - 1975 02-Jul-19 - 1957 09-Jul-19 - 1977 16-Jul-19 - 1967 23-Jul-19 - 1947 30-Jul-19 - 1968 06-Aug-19 - 1940 13-Aug-19 - 1950 20-Aug-19 - 1960 27-Aug-19 - 1970 03-Sep-19 - 1980 10-Sep-19 - 1941 17-Sep-19 - 1951 24-Sep-19 - 1961 01-Oct-19 - 1969 08-Oct-19 - 1979 15-Oct-19 - 1963 22-Oct-19 - 1958 29-Oct-19 - 1948 05-Nov-19 - 1982 12-Nov-19 - 1952 19-Nov-19 - 1942 26-Nov-19 - 1972 03-Dec-19 - 1963 (Christmas Week) 10-Dec-19 - 1973 (Christmas Week) 17-Dec-19 - 1988 (Christmas Week) 24-Dec-19 - 1980 (Christmas Week) 31-Dec-19 - 1957 (Christmas Week) The ones in December will be the final (compiled) chart of the year being the Christmas issue.
  6. The Chart Book Weekly It’s not often a new chart publication comes along but when it does it has to be right. It has to do something that nobody else does. It has to be relevant. And it has to be priced well. And that’s what my new weekly PDF to your inbox will do (I hope!) The Chart Book Weekly will take a week in chart history and present charts from that week in glorious detail. Want the writers? All there. Duration? All there (singles only mostly there for albums with more added all the time). Track listing? Chart run? Tick that’s there too. What about the artist history to that chart week? Oh yes that’s in as well. But will that all be readable? That’s a lot of information. And it is a lot and it is readable. Don’t believe me? See the sample below. (Please note sample is not 100% finalised and is used to illustrate layout.) https://www.dropbox.com/s/3696ikma3e3hm8r/C...Issue0.pdf?dl=0 The issues will include a singles and albums chart from the UK and the USA (where appropriate as we know that not all weeks had then printed) together with some notes in the charts shown. If issue 10, say, is released on 1 February then the charts will be from an interesting chart year about that date (so maybe 29 Jan or 3 Feb). The charts won’t always be the usual official charts, at least as far as the UK is concerned. We have Record Mirror, Melody Maker, Disc and others to choose from. From America, for now, we will limit to Billboard only but in the coming few years that will expand. I want to add in Record World and Cashbox. In addition each issue will feature the full chart history for a charting artist across all the charts in the database. Nobody else is issuing a weekly look back at older charts. Nobody else is doing the level of detail presented here. And nobody else has the level of detail presented here. So what is the cost you ask? 1 issue. £1.99 1 month (4 issues) £6.99 3 months (12 issues) £19.99 6 months (26 issues) £34.99 12 months (52 issues) £67.99 Special introductory offer : 60 issues for £67.99 - ends 31 March 2019 (5pm UK Time)! All subscriptions - for now - come via sending money to PayPal.me/LReadioff for the required amount with a note including email address to which the publication can be sent to. The website will be updated soon to reflect buttons for sending this off. The issues will be released on Tuesday mornings (although I reserve the right to issue on the preceding Sunday or Monday or the Wednesday after up to four times in a calendar year if required due to illness or unforeseen circumstances.) The first issue will be released on Tuesday 26 March. So what are you waiting for? Sign up today! A couple of notes: 1. The database currently has charts from 1949-1965 and more are being added once the data has been verified. As such, data is exclusive to this period but data is added at the rate of about a year every week (this will slow down when we reach 1994!). 2. Errors will exist. It’s a fact of life and no matter how carefully I prepare I know some data will be in error or missing due to lack of original sources. Those spotting and correcting an error will receive one free issue per error. If they subscribe they will have one issue added to the relevant subscription option. 3. The charts that form this come from my own collected data. I spent many happy hours in the British Library Newspaper Archive and online at https://www.americanradiohistory.com/ where copies of Billboard may be found. I have found and corrected numerous errors and researched the charts as best I can using internet sources (Discogs for track listings, 45cat and Wikipedia for writer credits as a start). Joel Whitburn excellent book series have been used to verify my data as correct in terms of checking peak positions and highlighting errors in my work. 4. If for any reason I have to cancel the publication, I shall close to new subscribers first and then finish as subscriptions naturally end. 5. Questions? Ask! :)

You’d probably have to buy back issues of charts plus or use way back time machine searches on the internet but again that would be incomplete.
  8. 28 August 1999. Odd bits before, but that's the first one I wrote down (Using dads old typewriter as I had yet to persuade my parents my own computer was a good idea! I was 14. Now I still listen to the music, prefer the 1960/70's era music, but have a soft spot for 1999 music. Just seems better than the rest since.

No because this book is for the Melody Maker charts which where compiled by Melody Maker and not Billboard. Have a look at the sample I provide as that shows exactly what you get with one page from each section shown.

  13. They are there for specific subscribers. People (not many but a couple) subscribe because they are there.
  14. I suppose I have long thought that everybody knows about ChartsPlus but recently I’ve come to realise that this may not be the case. Whilst I don’t want this post to become an advert in some sense it must be to list what ChartsPlus does and ask what should it do. We want, as all publications want, more subscribers. We wonder how to get them though. ChartsPlus is an independent weekly newsletter about the UK music charts. We licence approximately 29 charts from the Official Charts Company and spend ages making sure that the titles, artist, labels and catalogue numbers are accurate and reflect the actual release details. Our goal is accuracy. Two types of issue are available. Express at £120 a year and Full at £145 a year. Express removes some charts and reduces the size of others. Each issue is sent out on Monday nights or Tuesday morning and is in your inbox for Tuesday morning when you wake up. Our customer service goal is to advise all subscribers of errors and then supply a replacement issue if needed. Examples include when a typing error has been made or more seriously such as in 2015 when the OCC reran the Rock Albums Chart and we used the second, correct, issue. We also include a new entries spotlight which shows artist history for new entries into the singles 100, the main chart, and those new entries between 101-200 on the digital singles chart. The albums chart also has a new entry spotlight for records entering between 1 and 100. This includes catalogue numbers now, something not shown on the samples on the website. Issues, including back issues, may be bought from http://www.ukchartsplus.co.uk So that’s the background for anybody who doesn’t know. Now to my questions. With the exception of price why don’t you subscribe to ChartsPlus? I’m not asking about price because we are unable to reduce this. I studies Business Studies and know that products have a point where people won’t pay when the price goes to but the price comes to about £2.78 per week if you subscribe to Full and pay yearly which is the cheapest option. Should we have more charts? Should we have less? If so which do we drop? Which do we add? Be aware that if a chart does not exist or is not created we can’t have it so are restricted to what the OCC offer. Equally we can not show sales information so please do not ask. That is confidential and the sales data released by other publications is part of an agreement with them for non specific rounded data or in special cases such as the number 1 record. The big question - what is stopping you subscribing? Thanks for your time and this is really interesting to me as I am really keen to know how people find out about things like ChartsPlus.

Billboard Albums Update! I have just uploaded a new version of the Billboard Albums book. No new charts, so it still ends on 31 Dec 1966, but it does have many more album tracks. And I mean MANY more. Huge thanks to Iain Moffat who has been adding tracks from, mostly, 1960. That means almost all of 1960 is now done. Tracks have also been added by others, including Herby, who has been invaluable, so we now have all tracks up to January 1956. I have also been checking more entries and have now reached 1970, just need to sort out the artist sorting to get them all in the right place. Do please let me know if you spot any errors.

I have created two things which can allow people - I hope - to add album trac listings to my database. Below is a Google Form https://goo.gl/forms/5TLSmStCqZkeHyvV2 That allows you to locate the track listing on Discogs (or similar), copy just the section containing Track Number, Title, Duration (if shown) and paste and then also add a Prodrucer Credit if known. You also add the track ID so I know I have the right album. With over 30,000 albums needing track details added I can do this myself, and will, but it helps if others wish to - and have the time - can do something to assist. One thing is needed - a Track ID. Below is a link to a Google Document listing the album title, artist, entry date, peak, label, weeks and Track ID. Only listed are ones I am missing. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_lY...dit?usp=sharing If you do not have much time, just locate one entry. You can get your name in the free book.

The Billboard book has been updated, with thanks to Chartaholic from UKMix. It includes up to December 1964 now and you can see the Beatles first year on the charts. I've changed layout a little to make it a bit more readable. Do please comment and let me know what you think of the format and if anything should be changed - I want it readable!

An update: I have just launched - for free - a book covering the Billboard Albums. Well, I say free I would like donations but you can download and keep. It is only current through mid 1963 and so I'll do more updates to it depending on interest. I'm listing Album Tracks but only for the ones I have and I encourage people to assist with the missing info, or where might find it typed and ready to copy. I am mining Discogs already. Equally, if you'd like any additions (Country and R&B Albums will be added in due course). Information here http://thechartbook.co.uk/billboard.html A book on the Melody Maker Singles (start to 1969) in production as well, with a target date of March when it will be available to buy.

An update:- In the process of uploading and sorting for sale a book on the UK EP Charts. This should be available for sale shortly, so do check out the website. It does not include the weekly charts as I do not wish to step on the toes of another excellent book by George R. White. However, my book does contain the track listing in order which I believe has not been done before. Price is £7.50 and I hope you like it. Sample below. http://thechartbook.co.uk/onewebmedia/samp..._AdvertPage.pdf

Currently I have three books. They are all priced at £10. Disc - Singles and Albums 1958-1967 (Albums contains full track listing for all albums that charted, in the order they appear on the record). Record Mirror Singles - 1955-1962 (Contains full weekly charts as well) The Decade Series Volume 1 - 1952-1959 UK Singles Chart (The NME Chart for the 1950's) All feature B-Sides, Composer credits and Label and Catalog numbers, together with duration (for Singles) The layout is clean and clear and sample pages are available on the website http://thechartbook.co.uk Coming Soon In the works are books on The Decade Series Volume 2 - 1960-1969 UK Singles Chart (The NME Chart for the 1960 till March 3, then Record Retailer till 1969 then the Official Chart from 1969. Includes Breakers which have not been issued anywhere) The Decade Series Albums Volume 1 - 1956-1969 UK Album Chart (Record Mirror 1956-1958, Melody Maker 1958-1960, Record Retailer 1960-1969, and Official Chart 1969). Will contain full track listing for all charting albums and list all re-entries, something no other book does. The BBC Chart - 1955-1969 (Singles) - Before the official chart the BBC compiled their own chart. This volume covers those charts. I also have Melody Maker and NME which I am intending to issue in due course. The Decade Singles and Albums series will continue to the current, with a target of end of the year for the 1970's, mid next year for 1980's, end of next year 1990's, middle 2019 for the 2000's and January 1st 2020 for the current decade. Exact make up is of course to be determined. I am doing these in my spare time so things may slip a little. Other volumes as and when, meaning Melody Maker, NME, etc around these.

I'm not going to do a subscription model because, after careful thought, I can't guarantee to produce a new book every month or week or amount of time. I'm going to produce new books every month as a minimum but for some it might be longer between books. It all depends on the spare time I get. But do please buy when you can. I'm not going to reduce the prices for a deal at any point (I know some book sites do) so rest assured the price is the price is the price.
  25. kingofskiffle posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Like for buses? It depends if you want them all. I have tried to design these so that they are separate books so you buy what you want. For example, if your not a fan of the 1970's then that volume wouldn't be one you'd buy.
