and keeping fingers crossed that after people see Robbie perform it at Leeds Roundhay Park on Sky One and at the actual gig, Sunday sales should be good. I take it singles sales figures carry on right up to 4pm on the Sunday. He has dared to be different, I support it fully. So come on Robbie.
  5. Robbie's gone hip-hop happy By David Smyth, Evening Standard 05.09.06 http://i.thisislondon.co.uk/i/pix/2006/09/robbiePA050906_243x262.jpg Every track on Robbie Williams' new album is refreshingly different Being the king of pop is clearly not enough. Midway through his huge world tour, which will reach two million fans by the time it comes to an end in December, Robbie Williams is publicly questioning whether he wants "to be part of the machine any more". What can the chart-dominating showman be thinking? His success has been built on a mastery of uncomplicated crowd-pleasers. Earlier this year he smashed a Guinness World Record by selling more than 1.6 million tickets for the tour in one day. But it seems that's not enough. The same old stadium routine is failing to satisfy, and, album-wise, the 32-year-old has been steadfastly trudging the middle of the road; last November's Intensive Care found him treading water, failing to come up with a memorable hit single, though the album did reach the top spot. Now, in what looks like a bid to find some sort of personal or musical integrity, he's made a radical decision: to ditch the popster material and start experimenting. Rudebox, the name of both this week's new single and an album to be released in late October, sounds unlike anything he has recorded before. Career suicide? Or stroke of genius? A sneak preview of 10 of the album's 17 tracks, arriving in my inbox under the codename "Ether", makes an interesting case for his new direction. It includes five surprisingly leftfield cover versions, as well as collaborations with the Pet Shop Boys, the charts' hottest newcomer Lily Allen, and the ambient guru William Orbit. Guy Chambers, who co-wrote most of the big anthems (including Angels) with Robbie, is nowhere to be heard, nor is there much sign of his more recent collaborator, Stephen Duffy. But Robbie's usual songwriting method - working intensively with a single collaborator - is rare in pop. Albums by Beyoncé, Britney and Christina Aguilera are given multiple personalities by armies of songwriters; Rudebox is equally schizophrenic. Every track is refreshingly different, from the synth-laden cover of the Human League's minor 1984 hit, Louise, to the sparkling house interpretation of Lovelight by an obscure Barnet soul singer named Lewis Taylor, on which Robbie sings entirely in falsetto. Keep On is a collision of hefty dance beats and funk in the style of Fatboy Slim, while The Actor is an uneasy ballad dominated by heavy electronic bass. It's all masterminded by a selection of hip producers, including Soul Mekanik, DJ Joey Negro and Lily Allen's mentor, Mark Ronson. There is whistling, techno, country guitar and, strangest of all, Robbie rapping. He recently revealed an obsession with the music of The Streets and The Mitchell Brothers, and after his much-derided attempts at rhyming on the single Rock DJ, now feels once again that being a white man from Stoke is no barrier to hip-hop success. "I want to be a rapper," he proclaims in the copious promo material, "but the world won't let me." The stream of consciousness nonsense he comes out with on the Rudebox single may not convince the world to change its mind. "A-D-I-D-A-S/Old school, this is the best/TK Maxx costs less/Jackson looks a mess" is a typical example of his lyrical style. There's more, most strikingly and effectively on the pair of songs called The Eighties and The Nineties. These track the story of his early years in painfully honest detail, including his arrival and departure from Take That. "Boys I don't believe it, I'm gonna be famous/Pick you up in a Porsche and buy you lots of trainers/I met the other guys, one seemed like a c**k/I think it's gonna be like New Kids on the Block." It's witty and rather poignant, despite the gags. Admittedly, he's not very good at rapping, but the zeal with which he tries is infectious. The enthusiastic approach has worked in the past: he wasn't very good at singing like Frank Sinatra, but that didn't stop his Swing When You're Winning album from soaring to number one in 2001. In fact, the more songs that rush by in a colourful blur of experimentation, the more it becomes clear that this isn't his attempt to get out of the game. The overriding feeling is that he's letting his hair down and doing something fun. There's his effortlessly groovy duet with Allen, a cover of King of the Bongo by French superstar Manu Chao, and Viva Life on Mars, a hiphop hoedown that sounds like Beck. On She's Madonna, the Pet Shop Boys use pulsing synths to help him tell the story of someone who leaves his fairly average girlfriend for the Queen of Pop: "I love you baby/But face it, she's Madonna." He even covers a track by New York art rockers My Robot Friend called We're the Pet Shop Boys - with the help of the Pet Shop Boys. It's all so cunningly referential that it's dizzying; this is a far cry from Freedom, the George Michael cover that was his first solo single in 1996. The scattergun approach to musical style may well result in lower sales figures, but Robbie's not interested. He finally wants to please himself rather than his record label's shareholders. "It's reignited how I think about what I can do with music myself. I've always been scared to try out different things, and on this album I think I've lost the fear of where I should be in my head as a populist artist." he wants us to know. "It means I can just go and do wonky pop now, which is all I really wanted to do anyway." After his hugely successful Knebworth gigs in August 2003, he said to 125,000 people: "This is the point where my career dips, probably - but I don't care because this has made my life complete." Where do you go when you're at the pinnacle of your stardom? He could have disappeared to his LA bolthole and counted his money, but as an easily bored multi-millionaire with an addictive personality (see new song Good Doctor, a humorous dig at his own pill popping) this would never have been a wise move. Instead, he's made the extraordinary decision to risk all the teenybopper fame and adoration and take a punt on the music. Robbie the family-friendly entertainer has finally acquired the mentality of a proper musician. "It started off as a busman's holiday this time around," he declares, "but it's something on which I've found myself." Robbie's next chapter starts here, and it's going to be an interesting one. • The single Rudebox is out on EMI this week. The album of the same name is released on 23 October.
  6. Robbie to play China Music Week 04 September 2006 Robbie Williams is to join the growing tide of Western acts who have performed in China, with plans to play a live show there this autumn. The EMI artist will follow in the footsteps of artists including The Rolling Stones and Westlife by undertaking a promotional visit in November, to include a performance at the 35,000-capacity Hongkou Stadium in Shanghai. It will be one of several dates this year in which Williams – whose new album Rudebox is released on October 23 – will be playing concerts for the first time. His non-European tour itinerary also includes first live performances in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and India. Full details of the Chinese date are expected to be unveiled shortly, but Capitol Music UK senior international project manager Carole MacDonald says, to pave the way for the concert itself, EMI invited media from China over to see him perform during his continental European tour this summer. “China is a country with massive potential and there are a lot of artists starting to play there,†she says. “The Western cultural influences are increasing all the time.†Although Western acts playing China is still headline news, two decades on from Wham! becoming the first Western artists to play there, the country is increasingly figuring on promotional and tour agendas. Three years after original concert plans were scrapped because of the Sars epidemic, EMI’s The Rolling Stones made their Chinese concert debut in April at Shanghai’s Grand Stage, while Sony BMG’s Westlife played at the same venue in July as part of the promotion for their Face To Face album. Live dates in Mumbai and Bangalore in India in November are also expected to be announced shortly for Williams, while concerts for the same month are already confirmed for Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. Before those dates, Williams will make his South American concert debut in October, having already visited key markets on the continent over the past two years. His schedule includes two dates at the 62,000-capacity River Plate football stadium in Buenos Aires in Argentina - breaking U2’s previous record of achieving the fastest ticket sales at the venue for an international act. yeap, 3 million easily, if not more. :yahoo:
  7. I think Basement Jaxx better watch out, if Susie is in the front row. lol Swing when you're winning http://images.thesun.co.uk/picture/0,,2006410490,00.jpg Robbie ... new pal By SEAN HAMILTON Deputy Bizarre Editor SEPTEMBER 05, 2006 ROBBIE Williams has become best pals with golfer Colin Montgomerie — who has invited the singer to join him at the Ryder Cup. The unlikely friendship came to light at the weekend when Monty turned up backstage at Robbie’s show in Glasgow. Now the singer is expected to accept an offer from Monty, 43, to join him at the Ryder Cup in Ireland from September 22. Monty’s appearance at the Glasgow gig came BETWEEN ROUNDS at the BMW International in Munich, Germany — 856 miles away. Robbie, 32, had laid on a private jet to fly Monty in for the night. http://www.thesun.co.uk/picture/0,,2006410491,00.jpg Montgomerie ... went to Robbie gig The pair hung out before the Sing When You’re Winning star went on stage for his Close Encounters world tour. And they chatted at an aftershow party. Monty jumped back on the jet in the morning to get to Germany for his afternoon tee time. Robbie met Monty at Ant and Dec’s charity golf day last year. A source said: “They hit it off immediately. “Robbie stayed in touch and invited Colin to join him at the show in Scotland. “When he realised Monty would be playing he laid on a jet. “Now Monty is trying to get Robbie out for a round.†Monty’s night out didn’t do his golf any harm. After his Sunday round in Munich he finished joint-sixth.
  8. no he won't say that Glasgow crowd were $h!te, It will be us Brits that he will be saying "you are not as loud as the Scots" we are the most subdude nation when it comes to showing flags, bouncing and screaming - we just do not have the passionate nature of some countries. Susie, I am pissed off with Basement Jaxx too. I have been reading all their comments about Robbie and his audience. They are only saying it because they want to appear cool. I really hope Robbie gets to hear about what they are saying about him and his fans. They should count their blessing that they are playing in stadiums thanks to Robbie because they won't make stadium level on their own. Or is it because they are playing to half the capacity crowd when they come on, opposed to a full one when Robbie comes on. I think they are miffed.
  9. thanks for your fantastic report Jupiter :cheer: I will be rolling out my 'Scotland loves Robbie' flag next week for Leeds. I just new Hampden would be a fantastic place to see Robbie. I hope Leeds and MK fans will be just as great for him.

  17. Tickets warning for Robbie Williams fans Hundreds of Robbie Williams fans will be turned away from his concerts at Hampden Park, Glasgow, tonight and tomorrow because they bought stolen tickets, police warned last night. They said a total of 560 tickets had been cancelled by the gigs' promoter and anyone turning up at the venue with one would be denied entry and asked to explain where it was obtained. A police operation will be mounted at the turnstiles for the Falkirk and Dunfermline areas, and officers will be able to spot stolen tickets coming through. It is understood genuine purchasers did not receive their tickets and agent Ticketmaster and promoter DF Concerts contacted the police. An inquiry is under way into the theft. Chief Superintendent Robin Howe, who will be in charge of security at the concerts, said: "It is likely that the tickets have been sold on to unsuspecting fans who will be hugely disappointed as these tickets have been withdrawn by the promoters and are no longer valid. "It is believed that about 380 tickets for the Friday concert and about 180 for the Saturday, all originally destined for buyers in the Falkirk and Dunfermline areas, may have been stolen. All tickets are for the seated areas in the stands." A spokesman for DF Concerts said: "We are extremely vocal in warning music fans not to buy tickets from unofficial outlets. These concerts are sold out and any fans who have taken a risk here will be disappointed. We are working with the police very closely on this." More than 55,000 fans are expected at the National Stadium each night. Those who did not receive ordered tickets should still be able to get in, provided they can prove their identity. Further information is available from Ticketmaster on 0870 1690100.
  18. Yorkshire Police Press release Robbie Williams Plays Leeds Thursday 31 August 2006. West Yorkshire Police are all set to welcome over 85,000 people into Leeds as Robbie Williams plays Roundhay Park on 8th and 9th September. To ensure the event is as safe as possible and traffic continues to flow on surrounding roads, West Yorkshire Police have issued the following advice: Traffic Leeds City Council are the lead agency for the management of traffic around the Robbie Williams Concert at Roundhay Park. For further information on these plans log onto www.leeds.gov.uk Attendees are advised to use public transport where possible or share lifts to and from the event. If enough people do this, your potential travelling time will be significantly reduced. For those intending to take cars please ensure you leave sufficient travelling time. Leeds already has an extremely busy road network and this will be put under further pressure throughout the event. West Yorkshire Police will be supporting Leeds City Council and the event organisers in ensuring traffic continues to flow however some delays are anticipated. Crime Prevention Advice Whilst at the event, it’s important to remember the usual crime prevention measures that you would use if you were in a city centre. Make sure you don’t leave any valuables on display and ensure that your car is left locked at all times. It’s easy to have a carefree attitude at this type of occasion but remember to take the same precautions you would on any other night out. Should you wish to report a crime, contact Police on 0845 6060606 or in an emergency call 999.
  19. will be thinking of you and Robbie :cheer: Cops' alcohol warning to Robbie fans http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/upload/310806nrobbie.jpg ROBBIE Williams fans arriving in Glasgow for this weekend's shows have been warned not to drink on the streets. The singer will play at Hampden tomorrow and Saturday to sell-out crowds of 55,000. Police today welcomed fans to the city - but warned them to behave. Chief Superintendent Robin Howe, head of policing for south Glasgow, said: "We are expecting a maximum capacity of 55,000 fans each night. "However, due to the sheer volume of people attending, I would urge fans to make their way to the stadium in plenty time for the show. "On this occasion, alcohol will be on sale within the stadium, but it should be noted that there are by-laws in existence prohibiting the drinking of alcohol in the streets outside. "Beer and wine will be on sale within the stadium. But I would urge people to drink sensibly. "We will have a full policing plan in place to ensure everyone's safety." The concerts, featuring support Basement Jaxx and Orson, mark the start of a five-month tour for Williams . The gigs had sparked controversy because Saturday's date clashed with Scotland's first Euro 2008 football qualifying tie, which would have been played at Hampden. The SFA was forced to find an alternative venue - Celtic Park - for the clash with the Faroe Islands. Stadium gates at Hampden will open at 4pm and directions and traffic information is available online at www.strathclyde.police.uk
  20. well, it has been a pretty long bubble. 10 years of it. How many of todays artists will be around that long. I think Robbie is aware of it too. His home country treats him the worst by far and I find that very, very sad. And I hope you are wrong systemalert. :) http://usera.imagecave.com/jackie1/EE/normal_rudeboxwallpaperrobbiebz4.jpg
  21. I am going to buy the proper single as well and I always buy it on the first day, the Monday because it gives a good indicator to where it will end up in the charts. Tripping missed out on the top spot just because of the downloads apparently. Although Tripping was a fantastic hit for him here in the UK. So it is important for his fans to do both, buy the single and download as well. I really, really want this song to catch on. It is unique and daring and well, deserves to be a big dance craze to be honest. It is all about hype and they should be hyping Rudebox up more here. http://usera.imagecave.com/jackie1/EE/normal_rudeboxwallpaperrobbiebz4.jpg
  22. http://usera.imagecave.com/jackie1/EE/robbie22_small.jpg Robbie On The Road: We Are Not Alone, will be shown on Sky One on September 9 at 8pm followed by the Leeds concert at 9pm on Sky One and Sky One HD for all you closet Robbie fans, don't miss out watching Robbie live. I know you are out there! So here are the times :cheer:
  23. why do I love Germany ;) well done! it should be that position here in the UK  at the moment it is No.13 on iTunes. I suppose not a bad position but it looks like we will have to download it again next week. Does anyone know if we download it next week would we have to make up another account for the song to be registered? or can we download it again and if we did would it count again to the figures. Someone told me that it only registers the first download. Is that right, if it is, I will have to set up a new account again.
  24. my post had nothing to do with the on-going calculations. Although, I guesss when this tour is finished your calculator will be worn out Jupiter B) Robbie said he was performing to 3 million people on his Close Encounters Tour and this thread is Close Encounters Tour  so I just thought I would mention it. So apologies if my post was mis-leading 3 million OMG!!! :yahoo:
  25. Take no notice it comes from the The Star newspaper ^_^ You can tell he is back in the UK  http://musicnews.virgin.net/Images/73777.jpg Robbie in quit threat Robbie Williams has revealed he is thinking of quitting music because he is fed up of the pressures of fame. The singer is considering retiring from the pop star lifestyle when he has finished promoting his new album 'Rudebox 74' because he wants to go back to being a regular guy again. He told the Daily Star: "I've got to take the view over the next 18 months and see if I want to be part of the machine any more, because I don't see me singing again. "It's a question of what I want and where I want to be. Can I live without radio picking my song and putting it on the playlist? Or is fame something I'm addicted to? "I don't know where I stand with it all at the moment. Do I take things into my own hands and dismantle this monster and have a nice life?" Williams releases a new single, 'Rudebox', on Monday (September 4) ahead of his UK stadium tour.
