#17 Story of a heart (6.71) • Director: James Dove • Location: ? • Released: 23 June 2017 • YouTube views: 3.700.000 Moving on to #17 we find Story of a heart. It was hard to find some good information about this video. The plot is quite simple: The band revisit some old memories, photographs and memorabilia on a sunny summer's day. The YouTube views are quite high for a recent Steps video. Besides that, it was their last official ‘hit’, peaking at #173 in the UK charts (there was a top 200 back then). I’m surprised Story got to #17. I don’t mind it and the nostalgic part is cute. I think the styling and location is a bit frumpy for me and doesn’t match the song. The video for Story received scores between a five and an eight to finish with a very decent 6.71.

Predict the songs Steps will sing at Brighton Pride…
I wanted the setlist to be like a metaphor for people within LGBTQIA+ community. Starting as a baby/young kid with nothing to worry about (love), then the hardship they most of the times have to face when puberty kicks in (the heartbreak) and hopefully find strength in the end (back to love).

#18 When I said goodbye (6.44) • Directors: Simon Brand • Location: Rome • Released: July 2000 • YouTube views: 1.012.000 With another small difference (0.04 points) we find the video for When I said goodbye at #18. This is a black-and-white video shot in Rome, Italy. It features shots of the members singing solemnly. A colour version was released in 2022. Some shots of Faye looking ‘pensive’ towards the end led some fans to believe that she was leaving the group. This was another double A for Steps as it got released together with Summer of love. That one will pop up later btw! We seem to enjoy the video a bit more then the song. I can see why. Though it is a bit boring the band looks gorgeous and we see some beautiful shots of Rome. Also..I’m happy they released the color version last year! That helped me giving this a slightly better score. Getting votes between a 5 and 9 When I said goodbye ends with a respectable 6.44 in this countdown.

I agree about Heartbeat, glad I’m not the only one! Did you give it a 10? Thanks Spiceboy! I thought it was time to highlight the videos as we haven’t talked about them as much as the songs. Glad you appreciate the effort :)

#19 5,6,7,8 (6.40) • Director: Phil Griffin • Location: Marbella • Released: November 1997 • YouTube views: 41.091.000 Next we have the video that started their career..5,6,7,8! With the slightest difference (0.02 points) it grabbed the #19 spot in this countdown. Set primarily on a beach, the video opens with Lee and H riding quad bikes while the girls drive a car on the road next to them. It is followed by a repetition of the chorus whereby all of the members perform a line dancing routine, which was very popular at the time of its release. Lee, with H walking slightly behind him from the beach to the bar, performs the first verse where the chorus and dance routine is once again repeated. The second verse features clips of Lee singing while playing a game of snooker while H plays on the table football. For the final chorus, the group perform the dance routine for a final time, however the setting has changed to night time and inside a different bar. Not a big surprise for me. It’s definitely not a bad video for a debut single and it did kick of their career! The highlight? Lee shirtless and the band looking like puppies. The video received scores between a 5 and a 7 so it ends with a not too shabby total score.

#20 Here and now (6.38) • Directors: Terence O'Connor and Marek Losey • Location: London • Released: May 2001 • YouTube views: 2.843.000 Starting the top 20 is the video for Here and now. We seem to enjoy this one a bit more then it’s double A partner You’ll be sorry (as it finish inside the top 20 and it’s average score is 0.75 points higher). In the video Steps get trapped in a hedge maze. They search and try to find the centre, leaving trails of flowers everywhere they touch. The end of the video links into the video for You'll Be Sorry. It’s interesting to see this one a bit higher then You’ll be sorry. For me both videos don’t differ that much. Cute, but a bit dated with the graphics that were used back then. I guess this one feels a bit ‘warmer’? Here and now votes were also devising as it received scores between a two and a ten.

No big surprises for me either. Just wished Heartbeat was a little bit higher. #20 is on it’s way. Any predictions?

Sadly I agree as well. I have a feeling the album will be underwhelming in general.
