FRANZ Ferdinand star Alex Kapranos yesterday revealed his stunning new bandmates - Girls Aloud. The two chart-topping groups got together for an all-star cover version of David Bowie's Sound And Vision. And Alex took time off from rehearsing the band's new albumto tell the SundayMail how he recruited the sexy girl group as backing singers. Franz were recording their version of Bowie's 1977 classic for a Radio 1 40th anniversary album when he realised the Girls were in the studio next door. Alex said: "I asked Girls Aloud to do the famous 'doo doo doo doo doo doo' backing vocals on Sound And Vision. "They were in the studio working on their own record so I went next door and asked them. "They're pretty laid back so it was a music marriage made in heaven - the song worked really well." They performed with Brian Higgins of Xenomania - the award-winning UK production team behind Girls Aloud and a string of hits by Kylie Minogue, Cher and Sugababes. The Franz boys - singer Alex, guitarist Nick McCarthy, bass player Bob Hardy and drummer Paul Thompson - enjoyed the experience of joining the glossy Xenomania pop production line. Alex said: "We've been interested in Brian for years. His production of Girls Aloud's Wake Me Up first caught my attention. I remember thinking: 'What the hell is that? It's amazing'. "There was something about their sound which was immediate but dangerous - rare in a girl group. It was really edgy. "I've a lot of admiration for the Xenomania team. "It may seem odd as they're the complete opposite to us but there are lots of similarities. "We're both a collection of independently-minded people who want to do things their way. Franz Ferdinand have much more in common with Girls Aloud than certain other bands." The all-star compilation album - titled Radio 1: Established 1967 and out next month - features 40 cover versions, one for every year the station's been on air. Artists include Scots The Fratellis who cover Jimi Hendrix's 1968 hit All Along The Watchtower, KT Tunstall does Roxy Music's 1976 single Love Is The Drug and Paolo Nutini has chosen Madness' 1981 classic It Must Be Love. It kicks off with Kaiser Chiefs doing Flowers In The Rain by The Move, the first ever song played on Radio 1.. Alex said: "Radio 1 offered us a few years to choose from. 1977 jumped out because it was the summer of punk, which changed the face of British music. Sound And Vision was recorded at a more experimental time when Bowie wasn't a chart fixture. It caught the mood of 1977 while not being an obvious hit from that period." Alex was happy to join the all-star tribute to Radio 1 because he says the station taught him about music. He said: "I grew up with Radio 1. On Sunday nights I'd sit with a cassette recorder holding a little microphone against the transistor trying to tape my favourite singles from the Top 40. "The trick was to cut out the DJ talking between songs." Tonight, Franz kick off a mini-Scottish tour at Stirling's Fubar followed by gigs in Inverness, Fort William, Skye and the Shetlands as they try out material from their eagerly-awaited third studio album, due for release in 2008. Franz have already aired new tracks and don't care if fans pirate their unreleased songs. Alex said: "I'm glad there are versions of our new songs flying about. "Too many bands want to hide new material. That means they don't get to play songs live before going into the studio. "It's a real loss because you can transform new songs when you get a positive response. Then you can lay down the definitive versions." Alex revealed he is an avid collector of bootleg recordings himself. He said: "If I can hear an early version of a new track that's only going to make me more excited about what a band is doing. "I'm sure record companies will be horrified to hear me say that. "On our debut album we encouraged fans to pirate early versions of the tracks. Those early versions were not how they appeared on the record. "If somebody shoots us on a mobile phone and it appears on You Tube how could we possibly expect to make any money from that? "So bootlegs don't cost bands cash. Fans who buy them don't have the final version. To get the definitive version you have to buy our records. "I love bootlegs of other bands so I don't see why I should discourage fans from bootlegging us." 10. Girls Aloud star Kimberley Walsh has revealed she doesn’t particularly mind when unflattering pictures of her appear in celebrity magazines. She told the Sun recently: “Some people get obsessed with how they look in pictures but I’m quite laid back. There have been embarrassing pictures of me but I manage to shut it out.” “If I can make normal people think, ‘ooh, she’s got a bit of cellulite too’, or ‘she looks a bit fat in that picture’, then that’s great.” She hopes that such pictures help her be a good role model for young girls: “When I was growing up Kate Moss was really fashionable, that whole waif look, and I knew that I could never look like that.” “I would put weight on really easily if I weren’t in the group dancing and stuff. I’m not one of the lucky people who can eat what they want. “I try and eat healthily but have a bad day now and again. Most women in this day and age are always off and on a diet.” “It’s terrible when girls size 10 or 12 are being told they are too big. If I was a teenage girl thinking I’m a size 12 or 14 and I’m reading a magazine telling me a celeb who is a size 10 or 12 is fat then I’d feel terrible.”
  11. Cheryl Cole is terrified Girls Aloud’s comeback album will flop. She says she is feeling the pressure as fellow cuties Kylie Minogue, 39, and Britney Spears, 25, prepare to face the public’s eardrums again. Cheryl said: “It’s the most nerve-racking time. “It’s really scary and hard getting back into things as we’ve been away for a while. “The last album didn’t have pressure as it was the singles collection.” New single Sexy, No! No! No! is heading for the Top Five this weekend, which indicates the 24-year-old has nothing to fret over. Cheryl declared: “Nobody has got a guarantee – you can’t be complacent. The music industry is changing so much but we’re not going to adapt our sound.” Girls Aloud’s fifth long-player will be released in November, preceeded by second single Call The Shots. Cheryl added: “It’s my favourite track. It gives me goosebumps.” As well as finishing up their own record, Cheryl is keen to check out the return of many of her female chart companions. She said: “I’m excited about hearing Britney’s single. I genuinely hope she comes back and does well. “I thought about kidnapping her and bringing her to my house. I thought she was mentally unwell – you’d have to be to shave your hair off. “I can’t wait to hear what Kylie’s done. She’s been through so much, bless her. I was glad to see Amy Winehouse looking better at the Mercury Awards. “I didn’t hear her singing but she looked amazing in the pictures. “She’s got deep issues to deal with but seems to have a strong support network in her family. Her dad seems a decent guy.” Despite being a fan of Winehouse, 23, Cheryl was pleased Klaxons won the Nationwide Mercury Prize. She cooed: “I was over the moon.” As are we to have the Aloud back, Mrs C.

  22. http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/1036/image1ao8.th.jpg SHE’S the most feisty member of Girls Aloud and lets rip at any stars who cross her path. Lily Allen, Charlotte Church and Dane Bowers have all felt her wrath. So it comes as no surprise to learn that even her other half gets a pasting from time to time, too. In the second day of our exclusive series of interviews with Girls Aloud to mark their big comeback and new single, Cheryl Cole blasts her soccer star hubby Ashley for being “pathetic” around the house. The 23-year-old singer said: “He rang me one day last week and asked me, ‘How do I cook Super-noodles?’ I couldn’t believe it — especially as it says ‘boil for two minutes’ on the front of the packet. “Every decision I make I’ve got four other people’s lives to consider.” Having said that, Cheryl does want to start a family — something she will have to fit around her busy Girls Aloud schedule. She said: “If it were up to Ashley he would have a baby tomorrow and I want one sooner rather than later. My schedule with Girls Aloud is booked right up until next year now so I’m going to have to book a nine-month slot at some point.” No doubt Ashley will be given his orders and told to clear his diary, too. http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/4791/image3kl0.th.jpg “I don’t know why he likes them — must be for the quickness because he can’t be ar*ed to do anything else!” Geordie Cheryl also revealed how the Chelsea and England ace has only just learned how to iron. She said: “He’s totally pathetic round the house. I’ve had this discussion with his mum where I blame her, basically. “She never made him do anything and they are so well looked after at football, too, that he’s spoiled. They don’t even want them picking up a heavy suitcase in case they get injured, it’s ridiculous. “I’ve tried to help Ashley be a bit better. He’s now learned to iron — which is quite impressive for him.” http://img454.imageshack.us/img454/5949/image2at1.th.jpg Ashley and Cheryl married in July last year in a £500,000 ceremony at Wrotham Park, Herts. And Cheryl rapidly established herself as one of the top WAGS during the World Cup after pairing up with then England captain David Beckham’s wife Victoria. Cheryl now shares a mansion in Surrey with Ashley, but unlike many of the other WAGS she is fiercely independent and refuses to splash her husband’s cash. Most recently she sent back a £150,000 Bentley he bought her for their wedding anniversary because she felt she didn’t deserve it. She also despises the breed of WAGS who put up with their husband’s adulterous behaviour because they want designer handbags. The great thing about Cheryl is that she is totally down to earth. If it was up to her, she would still live in Newcastle to be near to her school friends and close-knit family. She admits she is quite a homebody now and most certainly the “mum” of Girls Aloud. She says: “I’m not bad at cooking, I give it a go, but I wouldn’t say I was good. “I also enjoy tidying up, I find it quite therapeutic. And I’d rather sit in bed with a DVD and a takeaway than go out. That’s what me and Ashley do most of the time. “I feel like I’ve become a bit boring sometimes. I’m a bit weary of going out these days. When I do go out with Ashley, girls throw themselves at him but I just find it funny. I trust him 100 per cent so I’m not worried about it. Maybe if I was insecure I would, but I’m not. “These girls are sad anyway. I couldn’t be one of those footballers’ wives who just accept them sleeping around because they live in a nice house and have designer handbags.” Cheryl, who famously once clumped a toilet attendant working in a nightclub, reckons Ashley wouldn’t have the guts to cheat on her anyway — because he knows the consequences. “He wouldn’t dare,” she laughs. “He knows what I’d do to him!” When I suggest he might be on the end of her famous right hook, or that she might simply castrate him, she doesn’t disagree. She goes on to reveal Ashley spends much of his spare time playing computer games at home — and she’d much rather he did that than go out partying. She explains: “Footballers’ lives aren’t always that glamorous. They can’t go out and party, and once they’ve been to training they have the afternoons off. So that’s why Ashley is always playing those bloody computer games. “I much prefer him to be sitting at the computer rather than out gambling or drinking.” And she reckons the key to their successful marriage is that they are both used to spending time apart with their work. She says: “The good thing is that it was like this when we first got together. I was always away with the girls working, so we weren’t used to spending all our time together. “We are both busy but our marriage works well because when we do spend time together we appreciate it even more.” Cheryl also hit out at Sunderland boss Roy Keane for blaming the WAGs for players not wanting to sign for his team. She joked: “I don’t know why anyone would want to move to Sunderland – but then I’m biased because I’m a Newcastle fan!” On a more serious note, Cheryl thinks the former Man Utd star has got it all wrong about the players’ other halves. She says: “It’s ridiculous for Roy Keane to say it’s just all about the shops. It’s not. “A lot of the footballers’ wives have families and children to think about. Roy was just taking a stereotype of a WAG as fact, but that’s not what it’s really like.” Referring to bandmates Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh, she adds: “My marriage and Ashley are my priority now but the girls are a close second. “We were in a position where Ashley could have gone to play in Spain but it would have meant me having to leave the band. So we decided as a married couple not to go to Spain, for my benefit. “I sometimes feel a bit guilty for that but I didn’t work hard all these years just to pack it all in because of the man I married. http://img130.imageshack.us/img130/1248/image4jz9.jpg http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007410121,00.html
  23. http://img68.imageshack.us/img68/4803/0200740226900nw5.jpg THEY’RE the sexiest, sassiest band around – and now GIRLS ALOUD are making their big comeback with a new single and album. In a series of exclusive interviews starting today with NADINE COYLE, the fab five dish the dirt on everything from their sex lives to the SPICE GIRLS. NADINE COYLE was the envy of millions of women when she pulled DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES heart-throb JESSE METCALFE. The pair met in Australia early last year and were so in love that at one stage marriage was on the cards. But it all ended in tears in April this year when pictures emerged of Jesse holding hands with a mystery woman. In another twist just three weeks ago, it looked like Nadine had forgiven him when she was snapped with her arms around him in an LA car park. But today Nadine reveals the truth behind the rumours. The singer insists Jesse NEVER cheated on her and reveals they are NOT an item again, despite those infamous pictures. Nadine, 21, confessed: “Jesse and I aren’t back together. I hadn’t seen him in ages when those pictures of us were taken. “I was out in LA for three weeks because my sister is getting married out there and we had lots to sort out. Jesse and I were still speaking on the phone though and we arranged to meet up for lunch. “Those pictures of us kissing was just me saying goodbye. We’re exes so we are still close and we were just being sweet. But we are not back together.” Everyone assumed that Jesse had done the dirty on Nadine when he was pictured with a pretty brunette shortly after his stint in rehab for booze problems in April this year. But Nadine insists the truth was SHE broke off their romance three weeks BEFORE those pictures were taken. She explains: “I had gone out to LA when he was in rehab and it was just too hard to keep the relationship going. We broke up then and I just said to him, ‘You sort yourself out and I’ll do my thing then we’ll see what happens after that’. “I didn’t put out any announcement about us splitting up because I didn’t think anyone would be interested. “The first time he was seen in public after he came out was when he was photographed holding hands with a girl and everyone assumed he was cheating on me. “But he wasn’t, because at that time we weren’t together.” Nadine’s hectic schedule with Girls Aloud means she is rarely in one place for long. Earning a comfortable living after a string of hits, she now calls LA home but also has properties in Ireland and London. Despite her brief reunion with Jesse last month, Nadine remains the only member of Girls Aloud without a regular love interest. The bubbly Derry-born lass explains: “Jesse and I still speak and I wish him all the best. “He’s shooting another film and doing more with Desperate Housewives so it’s all going well for him. “But I haven’t really contemplated getting back together with him. “He’s gorgeous and charming and beautiful but I’m always all over the place so it’s hard to have a relationship. “Also he’s that bit older than me — he’s 29 and I’m 21 so we want different things. We always got on really, really well and I loved him a lot, but it just became difficult to stay together. “I would never say never, because he is a really good guy, but it’s not something I can really think about at the minute.” Nadine and bandmates SARAH HARDING, CHERYL COLE, KIMBERLEY WALSH and NICOLA ROBERTS will announce their comeback with the launch of a new single today — Sexy, No, No, No. She is also flying back and forth between her home in LA’s Huntington Beach and her house in London to work on a new album. But despite the busy workload, Nadine admits she has still found time to go out on dates. The singer says: “I have been on a few since splitting with Jesse. “I dated an Israeli guy and some Americans but I’m single at the moment and I’m happy with that. “The great thing about being in LA is that no one knows me for being in a pop band. I have a totally different lifestyle there — I can get away with murder and no one finds out about it! “I’m not really the goody-two-shoes of Girls Aloud! I go out in LA and I don’t get photographed so I get away with it.” Nadine moved her whole family out to the Californian coast after falling in love with the area three years ago. She explains: “I saw a lady driving around on LA’s La Cienega Boulevard in her SUV with her big sunglasses on and thought, ‘I want to be that lady – I want that life’. “So I rented a house by the beach for a while so my parents could come over and see what it was like. “Now we are all there and I’ve invested money in a couple of bars. “One of them we own as a family and everyone is working on that really. “And I love being by the beach — you can look at the surfers!” Although she loves her new home city, Nadine isn’t sold on the plastic surgery freaks you see everywhere. She says: “Some of them don’t look like real people.” Nadine showed off her amazing natural looks when she filmed some scenes in the new St Trinian’s movie, alongside RUPERT EVERETT and RUSSELL BRAND. She and her bandmates were predictably dressed as sexy schoolgirls in stockings, suspenders and tiny skirts as they s*** their role in the forthcoming movie. It wasn’t exactly the kind of uniform Nadine got to wear at her strict Catholic convent school. She says: “We just had to pretend that we were the school band and I had to be the slutty, snobby one. “The outfits were a bit questionable and nothing like my old school uniform. “At school I was always obsessed with having high heels and alway getting in trouble with the nuns. “They used to measure my heels and the length of my skirt. I was always being kicked out of class and leaving school was the most exciting day of my life.” # Sexy, No, No, No is out in shops today. http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6964/0200740225900wx6.jpg http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/2375/0200740227200hb4.jpg http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2007400979,00.html
