The Ian Dury one? It's well worth a listen, and you might find you recognise the tune.
  2. Not juat a charting artist, but a charttopper, Sally Sweetland reached 103 years 4 months 2 weeks, which edges ahead of Dame Vera Lynn's 103 years 3 months, and must make Sally the longest lived charttopping artist, if not the longest lived charting artist.
  3. So assuming the weeks to the end of March are as planned, and not including any credits for any of the unnamed (at least on the BBC programmes database) 'legendary past presenters' on that November 2022 edition, the chart of chart show hosts now looks like this: 1. Mark Goodier 470 1988-2002 2. Bruno Brookes 358 1986-1990 & 1992-1995 3. Tom Browne 278 1972-1978 4. Scott Mills 272 1999-2022 5. Alan Freeman 258 1967-1972 6. Reggie Yates 237 2007-2012 7. 5. I thought it was like Zsa Zsa Gabor's name, so like Tsar but with more of a 'Zh' sound at the start.
  6. I'm sure I've read somewhere that Gallup, Radio 1 and the music industry all treated the chart announced on Boxing Day as being the official Christmas chart, despite it not being out on Christmas Day itself.
  7. I only just realised that Top Of The Pops Xmas is still happening this year. I had previously looked at all the listings from 23rd to 26th December and when I didn't find it I concluded that they had axed it, but apparently it's been shunted to the 28th this year. I feel like they are deliberately trying to make it harder to find with each year, so as to bring the remaining audience down quicker and justify killing it off completely. I didn't mind it being on late on Christmas Eve lst year as those of is that wanted to stick to our tradition and watch it during Christmas Day could still stream it on the day, but they have made that impossible this year (unless it goes on iPlayer a few days ahead of the broadcast?) meaning that for the first time since 1966 it is impossible to watch a new Top Of The Pops special on the big day itself.
  8. I can't help wondering if Slade's 25/1 is slightly shorter odds than the last few years, given the revelation in the media that Noddy sadly has had cancer for the last few years. It would be appropriate for Slade to get it back to Xmas #1 to mark 50 years of the first time, but I wouldn't have wished him to be ill for it to happen. Nonetheless one wonders about the choice of timing for his wife to go public about his illness, given he's already been ill for a few years at this point.
  9. Looking at it today you can see Physical Album and Singles Chart runs on artist pahes back to 1994, and it looks as though Vinyl Albums may also go that far back, but it appears that Vinyl Singles don't go further back than 2015. I think the two physical charts would just be identical to the official charts for the 90s and first half of the 00s. The Physical Singles Chart actual goes back to w/c 6th March 1994 with every weekly chart viewable, and the Physical Album Chart to w/c 30th January 1994 with every weekly chart viewable. The Viny Album chart only goes back to w/c 5th April 2015 with every weekly chart viewable, and Vinyl Singles to w/c 12th April 2015 but you get the 'not authorized' messages you mention for weeks in the 1994 to 2015 range.
  10. And the 20s so far, which looks like we're going to get an annual serving of sausage rolls and anti-Tory swearing, but at least there were two others that also achieved it this year. 14. At the start of the 90s this chart feat had only happened one year of the last 30, and even then only due to the death of a pop legend a few weeks before Xmas. By the end of the decade there were six different songs that achieved it in one year. It all started to change with mad fer it Manchester-based band Oasis scoring the first new entry in the xams week Top 10 since the start of the Top 50 era, then the following year another act also achieved it with a cheesy parody of Oasis. And then the floodgates slowly opened with two singles in 1997, 4 in 1998 and 6 in 1999, including a Millennium reissue of John Lennon's Imagine, which was thus the only single to achieve the feat in two separate years. 1994 #3 – NE – Oasis – Whatever EHfx9LXzxpw 1995 #2 – NE – Mike Flowers Pops – Wonderwall NTfZshkNZRw 1996 #1 – NE – The Spice Girls – 2 Become 1 FA5jsa1lR9c #3 – NE – Madonna – Don’t Cry For Me Argentina KD_1Z8iUDho 1997 #1 – NE – The Spice Girls – Too Much _4VoZ6afztc #10 – NE – Mase – Feel So Good rIvEiTrq9kk 1998 #1 – NE – The Spice Girls – Goodbye eegDtyrSUZw #2 – NE – Chef – Chocolate Salty Balls (P.S. 15. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas. I had the idea for this thread when I saw a comment from PeteFromLeeds asking when we last had four new entries in the top 10 in xmas week. One of this year's four is only new to the Top40, not to the chart overall, but I thought I'd present the history of singles that flew into the xmas week top10 from outside the Top 40 the previous week. Xmas classics, social media campaigns, tv karaoke competitions, swearing about a certain political party (note to mods can I use the full name of the act and singles, and link videos?) and some sausage rolls are all to come on this list. Back in the 50s there wasn't a top 40, just a top 12, 20 or 30, so I decided to start from the inception of the Top 50 in Record Retailer in 1960, but as it turns out no single in the 60s or 70s did make it into the xmas week top 10 from outside the top 40. When it finally did happen it took a tragedy. Former Beatles musician John Lennon was shot dead outisde his home on 8th December 1980, leading to a resurgence for his music, and to two of his singles flying into to the top 10 in xmas week. No other single repeated the feat in the 1980s. 1980 #4 – #45 – John and Yoko and the Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir – Happy Xmas (War Is Over) previously charted for 8 weeks between w/e 09/12/1972 and 27/01/1973, peaking at #4, and 1 week at #48 on w/e 04/01/1975. On its 2nd week in this chart run yN4Uu0OlmTg #9 – RE – John Lennon – Imagine YkgkThdzX-8
  16. December 25th Well I did initially think I might abandon the random element for Xmas Day and end with whatever happened to to be Xmas number one this year, on the assumption it'd be a popular choice, but in the event I think my Buzzjack membership would probably be rescinded if I did that, so I left the choice up to random.org's random number generator, as I did everyday all month, and I think we finish on something pretty good anyway. Random Year: 1997 Random Position: 8 Natalie Imbruglia - Torn VV1XWJN3nJo Thank you to everyone who took part in this thread. Whatever you are doing today, and whoever you are spending time with, in person or on Zoom, I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
  17. The random number generator chose a 90s million-selling classic, and appropriately for this year it has a connection to Neighbours, so hopefuly that counts as a slightly better song.
  18. According to Wikipedia it is yeah. Apparently he recorded it in July 1952 and it was a Billboard number one in December 1952. There was also a 1952 version by Spike Jones, and 1953 versions that charted in the UK alongside Jimmy's by the Beverly Sisters and by Billy Cotton and his Band. Apparently the Roman Catholic Church tried to ban it, as they missed the point of the song comepletely and though it was about adultery, so Jimmy had to go to his Archdiocese and explain the song to them, after which they lifted the ban.
  19. 24th December Random Year: 1953 Random Position: 8 Jimmy Boyd - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (peaked at #3) KA790bGpxaY A very fitting christmas song was chosen by the random number generator as we sneak into Christmas Eve, and the big event is nearly upon us. This one has an interesting chart run too, 8-3-8-8-8-8. I've decided to do a 25 day calendar, so there will be one more post on the big day, probably in the early hours, as Santa is doing his rounds in the UK (or possibly slacking off and kissing Mommy?), and probably from a slightly tipsy me, so excuse any typos that creep into my post tomorrow.
  20. 23rd December Random Year: 1978 Random Position: 27 Funkadelic - One Nation Under A Groove (peaked at #9) nmjUvgdzimo
  21. 22nd December Random Year: 1997 Random Position: 82 Will Smith - Men In Black (peaked at #1) fiBLgEx6svA
  22. And not forgetting Basil Brush's single, Boom Boom It's Christmas Again, also raising money for the Trussel Trust, and featuring several other children's TV characters and stars spanning the 50s to 10s.
  23. 21st December Random Year: 1985 Random Position: 5 Aled Jones - Walking In The Air wQt6NmOKzYw It's kind of obligatory to mention that contrary to popular belief Aled didn't sing on the original Snowman animation, but the actual singer, Peter Auty got left off the credits of the 1982 film and then completely replaced by Aled by the time it was decided to release the main song as a single in 1985.
  24. 20th December Random Year: 1966 Random Position: 5 The Kinks - Dead End Street (peaked at #5) NyANiSB3_D0
  25. 19th December Random Year: 1988 Random Position: 98 Dame Edna Everage - Theme from 'Nieghbours' (peaked at #83) yWQ6Euk0USY Appropriate for this to be randomly chosen in the year that Neighbours 'did a Jesus' by dying then being ressurected again. Although Neighbours has used several different artist's versions of the theme over the years, they oddly enough have never used this version.
