or not use a webcam at all. Why the need to see each other? I have talked to people on skype just using a microphone, while they have had a webcam, so I could see (and hear) them and they could hear me. I used skype on my laptopn when on holiday in US to talk to my hubby on the house phone. It worked very well.

You don't have to have a webcam to use skype. You can either just use voice through a microphone (my laptop has a built in one) or type like you do on msn

There are a couple of pages to join anti the charge but someone posted a warning that one of them had a virus so I won't join any of them. And if facebook start to charge, then I'll just not bother with it any more. Be a shame but not the end of the world.
