We didn't meet him before or after. I had to come straight from work and just made it in time and it finished after 11pm so I needed to get home and it takes a while. A friend of mine came along as she is a big Beatles fan and she thought Darius has a fantastic voice and sang really well.

  19. Yes, there weren't many empty seats that I could see and Darius was very well received. Lots of people queued afterwards to see him and have things signed. I don't know if anything will come from the filming. We didn't have much of a chat with him after as he was very busy and then went off with friends afterwards.
  20. Thanks Mockingbird

From today's Daily Record Scots star Darius Campbell ready to don kilt for Prince Charming role SINGING star Darius Campbell is set to charm panto audiences as a handsome prince - in a kilt. The 30-year-old will appear in Snow White at the King's Theatre in Glasgow this year. But before he agreed to take on the role of the prince, Darius had three demands. He said: "I wanted seven real dwarves, I wanted to sing Michael Buble songs and finally I told them that this Prince Charming doesn't wear tights - he wears a kilt. "They said, 'yes, yes, yes', which was great because it means I am coming home for Christmas." Darius said starring in the panto will be a fairytale ending to a great year. He added: "It has been a big year for me, winning Opera Star, then performing in Carmen in front of 20,000 people at the O2. And I have produced my own show for the first time, The History Of The Big Bands. "It has also been a big year for my family. "My dad is in full health and my brothers have both done really well at school and university. So even before the panto came up, we had all decided that this Christmas we needed to get together."
  25. From STV Darius Campbell brings Big Band show to Scotland Scottish musician Darius Campbell has produced a new show called The History of the Big Bands. The show takes the audience back to a different era and features classic songs from the likes of Frank Sinatra and Count Basie Scottish singer Darius Campbell has come a long way since appearing in hit TV talent show Pop Idol in 2001. He turned down Simon Cowell’s offer of a record deal and instead signed with U2 producer Steve Lillywhite. His first single, Colourblind, topped the singles chart and his debut album went platinum. The talented musician has produced a show, The History of the Big Bands, which is currently touring the UK. The audience are transported back to a time when big band music filled the dance halls, lifted the troops and raised the spirits of the nation. He told The Hour: “The show was a year in the making. My Papa was in Paisley Hospital as he wasn’t feeling so well at the time, but he was telling me about his life and big band music and I had just had lunch with Michael Buble and we were talking about those particular songs. Darius Campbell brings Big Band show to Scotland “They were used by all the classic crooners. I wanted to do a show and I called it The History of the Big Band. It transports the audience back to a different era, to the 1920s to the big crooners to the swing of the 1930s all the way through to the great band leaders of Glenn Miller, Count Basie and Duke Ellington and through to the 50s and 60s.” Darius has performed with many different kinds of orchestra and with hiss own band, and he was lucky enough to be able to meet and spend some time with music legend Tony Bennett. Darius said: “I literally felt like the luckiest kid in the world. Tony has this way of talking to you so you feel like you’re the only person in the room. It was so easy to have advice from a man who you then see going on stage to perform. He’s been in the business for 60 years and to get his blessing for this tour is unbelievable. I’m really excited to be bringing the show to Scotland.” Darius loves the unique sound of big band music, and his favourite sound in the world is when the best players in Europe get together to sing the old classics. He said: “So many great singers took big band music on to convey these beautiful songs. They sound as good today as they did in the 1940s and 50s.” Darius will be performing in The History of the Big Band at Glasgow King’s Theatre on October 19 and Eden Court Theatre in Inverness on October 20. Darius sings Fly Me to the Moon
