Still celebrating Forever 25 over here

I love Mel and I’ll always support her, but if I’m honest I’m really not connecting with this new era so far. Sweat was already one of the first singles I’ve listened to the least out of her whole career, and the remix hasn’t changed that for me at all, it just doesn’t grab me in any way. I didn’t have huge expectations for the remix to begin with, but even so it feels very flat and forgettable to me. It’s a bit disappointing because her music has usually really excited me, and this time it just… doesn’t. I don’t feel that spark or passion I used to, and right now I’m not even sure I’ll feel the urge to go back and listen to it again anytime soon.

That bit about Geri’s mum co-writing most of the Spanish verse honestly surprised me 😅 She’s Spanish, and… sorry, but the Spanish in that song is rough. It’s not a case of “oh, it sounds a bit foreign” or slang being cheeky, in Spain we’re VERY familiar with rude language and that’s not the issue at all. It’s just badly constructed. Some of the phrases are plain weird and not things a Spanish person would naturally say. The grammar and flow feel off in a very non-native way. So yeah, I really struggle to believe her mum actually signed off on those lyrics. If anything, I can imagine her helping with how to say one specific word (🍆), but writing or approving the whole verse? I’m not convinced.

Just wanted to share something quite special (and a bit heartbreaking, to be honest). Yesterday, all the MTV music channels across Europe were shut down. MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV Hits, Club MTV… the lot. Each channel chose one final music video to close with, and for MTV 90s, the last video ever aired was "Goodbye" by the Spice Girls. That genuinely feels like a moment for the history books: the final video shown on MTV 90s in Europe. Such a thoughtful choice to represent the decade, and honestly, I can’t think of a more fitting one. Still, it does make me really sad to see the end of the music channels altogether. Feels like the end of an era.

Am I the only one who still, to this day, mixes up Get Down With Me and Wasting My Time? I mean, I don’t see one as better than the other, they’re practically the same song to me. In fact, the intros are so similar that I can’t tell them apart. 😅

Slightly off-topic, but honestly, we shouldn’t even be debating which four-piece single should’ve come out in 1999. The real point is that there shouldn’t have been a four-piece era at all. They should’ve still been five going into the third album. Everything else is just damage control after the fact. Sorry, it’s been 27 bloody years since 31 May 1998, and I still haven’t got over Geri doing that absolute dick move to the other four. It’s the biggest backstab in history, and honestly? I’m not over it. Not even close. 😓

Nah, I was only joking, I’m not changing the score. Truth is, I probably should’ve rated Song For Her even lower, but if I gave it a 5 at the time it’s because I reckon I was taking into account things like the fact it was an unexpected comeback, and honestly it had a bit more taste than Headlines, even if it was missing the Spice factor. So yeah… the 5 stays. 😁

If you want, I can edit my post and lower the score. I actually gave it a 5 already, but thinking about it… it’s like 60% Spice, and on top of that about 20% really gets on my nerves 😅 So yeah, maybe it deserves a 4 after all.

Honestly, I feel like WOMAN would have been a full-on statement. Like, a comeback showing “we’re four women, we’ve grown, but we’re still the same fun, colorful, and powerful Spice Girls.” I don’t know if it would’ve actually been that perfect, or if I’m just obsessed with the song and imagining it as epic… but I genuinely think it could’ve been a massive hit.

Yeah... I do listen to them, not a ton, but I’ve gone through the whole playlist a couple of times. Viva Forever, Goodbye and W.O.M.A.N I play all the time. But yeah… we’re few and honestly the slump from Forever25 is still real, lol

Looking at how the past few years have gone and expecting… well, not much, my only hope for 2026 is that no one kicks the bucket 😅… or that I don’t before we finally get the studio version of W.O.M.A.N 😂

At this point, and seeing that they clearly have the full concert in HD, do you think there’s any chance we might get a Christmas surprise along the lines of “here you go, the full Earls Court concert”? Or are they just going to make us suffer for a few more years while doing absolutely nothing? Because honestly, it feels a bit cruel to let us see that this material exists in great quality and then just sit on it for no apparent reason. It’s not even only about not releasing the studio version of W.O.M.A.N. anymore, it’s the fact that there are high-quality recordings of their concerts out there (Earls Court, TROTSG Tour, Spiceworld 2019, the full Live in Istanbul show…) and they still can’t seem to get their act together enough to release any of them properly in HD. Seeing those 9 HD videos uploaded now just makes it more frustrating, because it confirms what we already suspected: the vault isn’t empty. It’s right there. And yet, for whatever reason, we’re still left with crumbs instead of a full release.

I’m fed up with them. it’s been almost 30 years following a band that gave it their all during their first two years, but throughout their career they’ve shown us too much disrespect. I’m tired of pointless plans, of things that never come through, of material they won’t release just because they don’t feel like it… It’s frustrating, and they don’t deserve any more of my time or my money. I’m well aware we’ll never hear the studio version of W.O.M.A.N. and on Christmas they’ll probably throw out some nonsense like a lyric video of the live version, or not even that.
