Could the Spice Girls have continued after Forever?
I think they'd have gotten a third No 1 album and maybe a few more No 1 singles. Thanks for that post Jay - always with the facts! Imagine a Forever with those 1999 tracks instead! Also, let's not forget this INSANE fact: everything they released as a group was a UK No 1 or No 2 (to be fair Headlines just wasn't a 'proper' single).

Could the Spice Girls have continued after Forever?
My position on the Forever era is that I wish we had gotten the pop version in 1999. We could have had WOMAN, Pain Proof, or Give You What You Want follow Goodbye as singles, with Right Back At Ya on a possible double-A side. The Christmas in Spiceworld tour could have been expanded slightly to add dates/locations... and then if it all ended until 2007, that wouldn't have been so bad. The only downside here is we might not have gotten Holler, which is awesome! I think through that route they could have gotten a third No 1 album and maybe one or two more No 1 singles though... They simply waited too long to release Forever, and the purer RnB style just wasn't them.

What do you want from this reunion?
A final Wembley Stadium one-week residency, filmed in HD for a blu-ray release. A new album with collaborations with current female artists. A repackaged Greatest Hits with previously unreleased tracks. A retrospective hardback book. Every album on vinyl.

Melanie C - 'Room for Love'
I thought so! Bit of a shame but at least the missing track is one we all already have! It's just nice to still get a physical copy!

Melanie C - 'Room for Love'
Hi guys! I just got my Room for Love signed cd... the track listing says: 1. Room for love, 2. Room for love (live)... I've played the CD on both a laptop and a bluray player... there seems to only be one track (the live one)... Anyone else have this issue? Am I missing something?

Spice Girls • General Discussion
I'm waiting for anything to be officially announced before I believe it. I feel like anything will be along 'final farewell' lines but we'll see! Some quick thoughts: - excited nervousness for a new album... perhaps it would be a deluxe greatest hits with some new/unreleased tracks (WOMAN!?)... - tv special sounds most plausible out of everything... hopefully like 'an audience with'... - I'd really like a final live show, perhaps a week at Wembley stadium... FILMED THIS TIME!... - for god's sake vinyl. A spiceworld repress. The greatest hits! Pleeeeeeaaase!...

Game: Spice Girls - The Group Singles Rate! - The Results!
Jay I *love* these commentaries! Even stuff I didn't know and I know a lot! I was never a big fan of Wannabe from 1996 right up until around 2010? I always found it immature and a bit irritating, and it was Say You'll Be there that got me into the girls. But over the past 5-7 years it's really grown on me. I've come to appreciate it and really understand why it worked and it's iconic status. I have to say though, it's probabaly 8th-10th for me! It launched the girls and encapsulates their arrival... but there was much better to come!

Missed Single Opportunities?
Spice Era Naked - Whilst I think they made the best single choices with Wannabe, Say You'll Be There, 2 Become 1 and Mama/Who Do You Think You Are?, Naked had the potential to be a classy darker single. It's perhaps the closest the Spice Girls ever got to All Saints and with a more edgy video could have been a hit for sure, shoring-up more adult fans. Step To Me - Sort of a single but not really, I was so relieved when my CD came in the post from Pepsi and the song was great! This would have done fine as a 'proper' single rather than a promotional one. Spiceworld Era Never Give Up On The Good Times - Certainly Spiceworld's Who Do You Think You Are?, I remember the rumours it was going to be a double a-side with Viva Forever. I think it's a shame this upbeat number didn't get the single treatment and the video/radio play that would have gone with it. Move Over - A bit like Step To Me, if this song hadn't been used in the high profile Pepsi campaign it could have been a hit single on its own... Generation Next! Full of girl power attitude. Forever Era Tell Me Why - The radio edit had follow-up to Holler written all over it. It might have needed the double a-side treatment to ensure it was a hit, but I think it's a stand out from Forever. Time Goes By - After Goodbye, certainly the next-in-line ballad release. Perhaps tied up with Tell Me Why this could have produced a 4th Christmas No1. If You Wanna Have Some Fun - I wasn't too bothered about this at the time, but retrospectively think it could have done well, funk/disco-meets-Who Do You Think You Are vibes for sure. I remember it was played along with tour footage on CD:UK when the album launched and I thought that meant it was headed to be the next single... little did I know we'd be waiting 7 years for Headlines. W.O.M.A.N. - This HAS to be the BIGGEST missed opportunity. A quality pop number perfectly transitioning the group from girls to ladies. Absolutely criminal it's never been released. Not even an album track, not even leaked. I hope I don't spent the rest of my days with only the Christmas In Spiceworld live audio from it's only ever outing! If only Forever had come along a year earlier... Goodbye in December 1998, followed by W.O.M.AN. in spring 1999, with Holler/Let Love Lead The Way (and the Forever album) in the summer, with finally Tell Me Why/Time Goes By Christmas 1999 would have made for a great Forever era.

Spice Girls • General Discussion
Some interesting and valid reflections there! I've always thought, especially in light of the leaked pop version of "Right Back At Ya" and looking back at W.O.M.A.N, that the girls would have seen much more successful with a 3rd album that still had a lot of pop influence. With Forever, you can really tell Geri is gone - and although she wasn't the Spice Girls by herself - she certainly brought out a camp and cheeky side which was a part of their iconography. Having said that, they were only 3 years into their careers, and it is easy to forget just how influential RnB was at the time (Destiny's Child, All Saints, Eternal, Louise, TLC, The Honeyz). They would have seen their fans growing up too, possibly moving on from pure pop to something more adult. It makes complete sense that artistically and commercially they would have gone in an RnB direction. We'll never know if a pop based 3rd album would have fared better, Geri's solo career which was more pop-based did arguably about as well overall (her album peaked lower but she had more hit singles and equaled two No 1s in the UK). Of course, it's easy to forget that forever did well, just not as well as Spice and Spiceworld (which were truly exceptional). In some ways they were victims of their own success - they had a very tall order to 'better', and clearly were just a bit exhausted/bored by it all come time to promote Forever. It's a shame that Forever didn't take off as much as the others as I think it was very unfairly perceived as a bit of a 'flop' and that may very well have fed into a sense that the party was over (after Forever that was it until Headlines in 2007!)... Holler was actually a GREAT comeback single - it was also a perfect idea to double A-side it with a much more 'traditional spice girls ballad... I was so nervous when it came out but off it went right to No.1! I'd say I always preferred the pop side of the Spice Girls, but Spice had a lot of RnB influence (I've always loved Naked)... and whilst I can't say I go running to Forever it's nice to have as something different, and Holler and Let Love Lead The Way are gems in my opinion. In conlusion: I completely agree that waiting until November 2000 to release Forever, 3 years after Spiceworld, was a huge mistake. They lost some momentum and never really got it back (even if Return of the Spice Girls was epic). If Forever had launched in 1999, RnB or pop version, I suspect it'd have hit the top-spot and had more of an impact just because the interest in the group hadn't cooled off. Final say: The cover. I will never ever understand the cover for Forever. Just the logo by itself would have been much better.

I Turn To You and Out Of Your Mind
I totally forgot these two were released so closely together! I didn't know about the Trance/Garage North/South divide in the UK... which is interesting as Mel C is from Liverpool and Victoria from Hertfordshire! I really like them both... perhaps a little dated now, but still get me moving! I adored Mel C's first album, and the original version of I Turn To You, which was darker and much more 'William Orbit' (although he didn't actually work on that track). As such I think I preferred Out Of Your Mind... I remember first hearing it after downloading it off a dial-up connection (it took about two hours for a 4 minute song!) and was blown away that a Spice Girl would do such a 'cool' track with garage producers! Out Of Your Mind is easily my favourite VB single, and I think track... It's in my top 5 solo spice songs for sure. I Turn To You is great... but it's the album version that's best for me, far more emotion!
