The parents of this child have made the naming of their baby all about their own egos, with no consideration for the life the child will live with a stupid name. These parents are being selfish and irresponsible towards a dependent child they should love and cherish, so I care - and so should you!

I always liked 'The smoker you drink the player you get' by Joe Walsh - but I've never heard it!

My first attempt at a cover design. A psychedelic cover for a sun-drenched, psychedelic single! http://www.mediamax.com/neilbaylis/Hosted/MelodyDay.jpg

I'll have to look out for that!

Its sales were split over two years ('81/'82).

I'm not familiar with that one - what's it like?

Laurie Lingo and the Dipsticks - 'Convoy GB'. Radio one DJ's Dave Lee Travis and Paul Burnett in 'hilarious' 'Convoy' spoof. Mike Reid had actually been in bands before becoming a DJ (Just Plain Smith, Esprit De Corps), and carried on making them while he was a DJ. I think he even wrote a flop West End musical. Lauren Lavern was in indie group Kenickie (biggets hit 'In your car' No. 24) who had an album that reached No. 9. John Peel had a record label called Dandelion in the early 70s but, thankfully, had the good taste to release other people's efforts rather than his own!

The problem with moral relativism is that nothing ever changes - it's a conservative act. Just because you can't catch ALL criminals, for example, doesn't mean you shouldn't prosecute those you DO catch. This GP is also untrustworthy - when confronted he tried to lie his way out of it and blame others (even his own family). Not a great "family" doctor, then. His sending this letter was an error of judgement. You are right that there must be other GPs like him, who are keeping their odious opinions to themselves, but surely that means they have more judgement? I think they would be less likely to let their closet bigotry affect their medical judgements - at least they are aware their opinions are not approved of. By 'coming out' as this GP has, he has declared his contempt for a number of his patients - he should be struck off, or at least suspended so he can consider his position.

Norman Wisdom had hits with the very maudlin 'Don't laugh at me ('cause I'm a fool)' and 'Wisdom of a fool' Comic actor Clive Dunn - 'Grandad' - eucch Jerry Lewis - 'Rock-a-bye your baby with a Dixie melody' No. 12 in 1957. Impressionist Billy Howard - 'King of the cops' No. 6 in 1975. It had impressions of Kojak, McCloud etc.

Sal Mineo - 'Start moving (in my direction)'. He was best known for his role in 'Rebel without a cause' Mae West made a couple of hilariously kitch albums in the sixties, covering things like 'Day tripper' and 'Twist and shout'. David Hemmings made a surprisingly good sixties album ('David Hemmings happens') with help from The Byrds (!). But then he had been an opera singer in his youth! David McCallum (Ilya from 'Man from UNCLE') made some records in the sixties, produced by David Axelrod. One track was sampled by Dr Dre on 'Next episode'. Contemporary actor Jared Leto is singer/guitarist in a band called '30 Seconds To Mars'. Anyone know what they sound like? Keanu Reeves was the bass player in grunge band Dogstar in the nineties but, thankfully, I don't think he sang!

My favourites: 1 (1) Honky Tonk Women – Rolling Stones 2 (2) Give Peace A Chance – Plastic Ono Band 3 (5) Saved By The Bell – Robin Gibb 5 (4) In The Ghetto – Elvis Presley 6 (16) My Cherie Amour – Stevie Wonder 9 (9) Baby Make It Soon - Marmalade 10 (8) It Miek – Desmond Dekker & The Aces 11 (11) That’s The Way God Planned It – Billy Preston 12 (5) Something In The Air – Thunderclap Newman 13 (19) Bring On Back The Good Times – Love Affair 14 (12) Barabajagal – Donovan & Jeff Beck 18 (10) Hello Susie – Amen Corner 19 (34) Curly – The Move 21 (New) In The Year 2525 – Zager & Evans 22 (17) Breakaway – Beach Boys 24 (20) Time Is Tight – Booker T & The MGs 27 (22) The Ballad Of John & Yoko – Beatles 29 (26) Gimme Gimme Good Lovin’ – Crazy Elephant 30 (15) Wet Dream – Max Romeo 31 (New) Si Tu Dois Partir – Fairport Convention 32 (28) Too Busy Thinking About My Baby – Marvin Gaye 34 (32) Dizzy – Tommy Roe 35 (24) Lights Of Cincinatti – Scott Walker 37 (35) Need Your Love So Bad – Fleetwood Mac 38 (23) Proud Mary – Creedence Clearwater Revival 40 (38) No Matter What Sign You Are – Diana Ross & The Supremes A real mish-mash of styles in the charts at this time. 'Serious' rock was becoming an album market and pop was looking around for something new. I guess glam would be the next major pop style a couple of years later.

I - 10 points M - 9 B - 8 K - 7 J - 6 E - 5 R - 4 N - 3 P - 2 S - 1

The Four Tops by a mile. Levi Stubbs voice can break your heart! Just ask Billy Bragg With the money from her accident She bought herself a mobile home So at least she could get some enjoyment Out of being alone No one could say that she was left up on the shelf Its you and me against the world kid she mumbled to herself Chorus: When the world falls apart some things stay in place Levi stubbs tears run down his face She ran away from home with her mothers best coat She was married before she was even entitled to vote And her husband was one of those blokes The sort that only laughs at his own jokes The sort that war takes away And when there wasnt a war he left her anyway Norman whitfield and barratt strong Are here to make everything right thats wrong Holland and holland and lamont dozier too Are here to make it all okay with you One dark night he came home from the sea And put a hole in her body where no hole should be It hurt her more to see him walking out the door And though they stitched her back together they left her heart in pieces on the Floor When the world falls apart some things stay in place She takes off the four tops tape and puts it back in its case When the world falls apart some things stay in place Levi stubbs tears...

I was going to list my favourites but, apart from the MOR hits, everything in this chart is great! What times!

My recollection of Sigue Sigue Sputnik's initial success was that it had nothing to do with 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and everything to do with the hype surrounding the band. Yello, however, did score a minor chart hit in America (No. 51) with 'Oh yeah' as a result of the film. If Donna Summer's 'I feel love' wins the current soundclash against Prince perhaps we should put it up against Love missile F1-11, then we'd have a Moroder versus Moroder clash!

Wrong Prince song… so Donna Summer
