  1. One of the first singles I bought! Still love it. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa240/45cat/BlackfootSue.jpg Record companies didn't do many picture sleeves in those days, but some of them sure made up for it with the label and company sleeve designs!

Here's mine for this week. I seem to be stuck on a psychedelic trip lately. I blame Photoshop's layers palette! ^_^ http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa240/45cat/Bloodlines.jpg
  3. Oops! Duly noted and corrected.

  5. Congratulations to worthy winners. Not sure what I'm going to do this week.

Well done to the winners. I think they were my three favourites too! Hope I have time to do something this week.
  7. The Killers single isn't download-only.

  10. Frankly, no! In most cases the second single was weaker than the first. :P
  11. Love both of these tracks, but it's still Joy Division for me. It's going to be difficult to depose an all time classic like LWTUA. The Smiths won't do it for me - I was never that enthused to be honest.
  12. These were the great years for me. But the charts only partially reflected this. It was a great time for punk and post punk, 2-Tone and mod, early electronica, etc, but not much of it made the chart. 2 The Jam........................ 13. Absolutely. I bet we've all had stuff in our collections that make us now think "What on Earth did I buy that for?" :o
  14. You have a point. Looking at the original poster's list, most of the second singles were pretty poor.
  15. I think the main reason is the continued availability of the previous single. Remember when singles were gone from the charts quickly and, if they weren't, the record company deleted them? Downloads have changed all that. Now the big debut hit hangs around for 20+ weeks, people buy either the whole album or cherry-pick the best songs, and there is no momentum for the follow-up singles, except in exceptional cases. I don't think this is going to change until the record companies wise up. Releasing more than one single before the release of the album might help. So might releasing singles that aren't on the album (like it was decades ago), after all it costs less to produce a non-physical single, so why not? Record companies are so locked into selling albums that they've forgotten how to make money from singles, but downloads could change all that.

None. But then I never do. I only buy 7" singles, the rest come from the web. I've bought loads of 7"s this year - must be over a hundred. It's always great when a pop act like Robyn or Sugababes release a 7", otherwise I'd have to buy mostly indie (which I like, but I like variety more).
  17. I rather lost touch with the charts in the nineties and, looking at this chart, I can see why! There's nothing there that I would really want to listen to. Of all the pop decades I personally think the nineties were the worst. Obviously, if you were a teenager at the time, you will find plenty to fondly remember, but I think much of the chart pop that was around isn't going to stand the test of time. Perhaps the recent Take That and Spice Girls reunions will prove me wrong, although it's interesting to see that Take That have updated their sound to great success, whereas the Spice Girls may stumble with their dated sound. Maybe another 10 to 15 years will give the 90s a nice nostalgic glow, but I'm not holding my breath.
  18. Loved last weeks winner. Sorry I couldn't vote, I was away from computers all weekend. :( It cost me a couple of places. Here's my eye-damaging effort for this week! http://www.mediamax.com/neilbaylis/Hosted/Raveonettes.jpg
  19. Now there's a tune! I guess every year from now on the chart will be full of Xmas tunes at Xmas - as well as Halloween tunes at Halloween, and every big love song around Feb 14th.

Congrats to last week's excellent winners - sorry I couldn't take part. Loads of excellent entries this week already. Here's mine - I seem to have gone a bit psychedelic this week! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa240/45cat/BlocParty.jpg
  21. Here's mine for this week. Unfortunately I won't be near a computer this weekend, so I shall lose 20 points for not voting. Perhaps I'll make Buzzjack history and be the first entrant with a negative score! http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa240/45cat/SigurRos.jpg
  22. Love this. Is it getting any airplay? If it gets on playlists it might do top 30 or even 20, but if it doesn't it'll get lost in the Christmas rush, which would be a great shame.
  23. What's the point of fining teens with no money? How does that work? About as well as the teens!
  24. Congratulations to the top 3 - all great covers. Dunno what I'm gonna do this week yet.
