The first two people in line, Alicia Barnes and Cindy Rojouant, came from Blacktown. They started lining up at 3pm on Monday afternoon, waiting for Ticketek to open at 9am. "They were here before I finished work yesterday afternoon," Brad Payne from Hewletts Record Bar said as he was opening up the store. Mr Payne said people from Sydney often come down to get tickets.

  4. Fans go mad for Robbie TENS of thousands of fans locked up the ticketek.com website for the second time in a week today while trying to buy Robbie Williams concert tickets. Fewer than 60 people braved wet and cold conditions outside the box office on Elizabeth Street. A limit of six tickets a person were on sale for the concert at Aussie stadium on December 9. Avid fan Justine, her dog Chee Chee and five other diehards waited outside for two nights to ensure they were at the front of the line. Second in the queue Joan Gasbarini said Justine, who was fast asleep, became a new friend after they met during the long wait. They had arrived at 10pm on Sunday. To avoid internet congestion, Sydney tickets were only put on sale by Ticketek today. By 9.30am, there were 41 auctions for the tickets on eBay.
  5. Robbie's return is a sellout Sydney morning Herald The highly anticipated return to Australia of British pop star Robbie Williams sent fans in Sydney and Melbourne into a ticket-buying frenzy today, with first shows in both cities selling out in 30 minutes. More than 100,000 tickets combined were sold by 9.30am (AEST) for the Robbie Williams: Close Encounters world tour at Sydney's Aussie Stadium and Melbourne's Telstra Dome in December. A spokeswoman for promoter Chugg Entertainment said they were shocked at the overwhelming demand for tickets. "We expected strong sales in Sydney and Melbourne, but nothing like this," she said. The demand meant an extra show in Sydney was added at 9.45am (AEST) and the spokeswoman said more than 85 per cent of the Sunday evening show had already sold. It's been five years since Williams toured Down Under. The current leg of the tour begins in Dublin on June 9 and will visit 14 countries on 44 different dates by the time it wraps in Melbourne on December 17. There was a strict six-ticket limit policy on sales today to avoid scalpers on-selling them at a higher price. Gold tickets started at $149.95 and the cheaper end of the scale was silver reserve at $99.95. Tickets for Williams' Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane shows go on sale tomorrow and the spokeswoman urged fans to get in early. "There has been a huge demand, all we can say is that fans need to get in early because they are selling fast," she said. Williams shattered the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest, and largest number of concert tickets ever sold in one day - 1.6 million - when the European leg of his world tour went on sale in November 2005. not five years! they obviously forgot about 2003.

  10. ROBBIE'S ENGLAND BOYS ARE WINNERS Sunday Mirror ROBBIE Williams offered a glimmer of World Cup glory last night after his celebrity England team scored a 2-1 victory over a Rest of the Worldside in the Soccer Aid charity match. Goals from former Spurs star Les Ferdinand and Robbie's TV presenter pal Jonathan Wilkes put England 2-0 up at half time and, despite a converted penalty by Argentine legend Diego Maradona in the second half, the home side held on. The Rest of the World struggled, with Scots chef Gordon Ramsay going eyeball-to-eyeball with Italian referee Pierluigi Collina in one incident. When the game deteriorated to Sunday League standard, the record 71,962 Old Trafford crowd livened things up with a Mexican wave. Afterwards, ex-Take That star Williams led his team - who included TV presenters Jamie Theakston and Angus Deayton and singer David Gray alongside former professional footballers - on a victory lap of the pitch and applauded when Wilkes was named Man of the Match. Fan Paul Cherry, 30, from Catford, South-East London, said: "Hopefully it will be this easy in Germany this summer." LOSING captain Gordon Ramsay has put down wife Tana - who has written her own new recipe book -saying she's like a Fiat in the kitchen while he is a Ferrari there.
  11. England SoccerAid stars beat the world Manchester Evening News CHAMP: Capt. Robbie.AN England celebrity football side had fans dreaming of World Cup glory tonight after they triumphed over a Rest of the World XI in the Soccer Aid charity match. Goals from Les Ferdinand and Jonathan Wilkes gave the England team a 2-0 advantage at half time and despite a converted penalty in the second period the home side held on for the win. A record crowd at Manchester United's Old Trafford ground cheered England captain Robbie Williams, playing at left back, and found boos and jeers in equal measure for old nemesis Diego Maradona. Advertisement your story continues below Good possession led to two early goals for England. Former Tottenham striker Ferdinand scored a header from close range from a cross by Paul Gascoigne after a sweeping England counter attack in the 14th minute. Side-stepped Then Wilkes broke down the line and found an incisive Gazza through ball at his feet. He side-stepped Welsh rugby's Gareth Thomas and beat Peter Schmeichel with a deft flick. The Rest of the World side struggled to make chances, with Ramsay working hard for little reward. The TV chef proved his notorious temper is not confined to the kitchen when he was hacked heading for goal. He then went eyeball to eyeball with referee Pierluigi Collina for judging the foul outside the box, but the Italian referee has lost none of his resolve and stood firm. Williams, at left back, could do little wrong for the crowd, but confined himself to attentive defensive duties, rarely venturing forward. Gazza, conversely, was happy to showboat. Looking trim and eager to please, he dispossessed Maradona then performed a 180 degree spin to compound his opponent's misery. Half-time substitutions freshened up the sides for the second half, and gave older legs a chance to rest, while bringing on more old legs in the form of Angus Deayton for England. Gianfranco Zola brought real intent to the Rest of the World attack, and Gullit looked lethal on the left. Tactics England resorted to traditional tactics against quality opposition and started kicking Zola when he got the ball. The diminutive former Italy and Chelsea player responded with an audacious lob from 60 yards that flashed narrowly wide. He then walked the ball past flailing England tackles only to see his shot well saved by Jamie Theakston. Later he chipped over when facing an open goal as Theakston over-committed. The Rest of the World side were awarded a penalty for handball with 15 minutes to go and Maradona side-footed it home, sending Theakston the wrong way. When the game deteriorated to Sunday League standard - unkind observers pointed to beer guts to match - the record 71,962 crowd livened things up with a Mexican wave. Williams eventually left the pitch to a standing ovation, his side secure in victory. Williams later lifted the Soccer Aid trophy before leading his team on a celebratory tour of the pitch. Applause He described the game as "amazing" and applauded when pal Wilkes was named Man of the Match. Fan Paul Cherry, 30, from Catford, south-east London, said he hoped the real England team were as successful in the World Cup. "The England team played really well, and it was great to see Maradona," he said. "He played really well. The crowd gave him a pretty hostile reception but what with the 1986 World Cup what would you expect?" "Hopefully it will be this easy in Germany this summer," he added. His companion, Emma Tozzi, 28, admitted she was not only interested in the football part of the game. "Robbie had a great reception from the girls," she said. "He looked really good, and he can play football."
  12. Robbie's England Victorious In Soccer Aid Clash http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y279/tc73/Said4.jpg England 2 Ferdinand (14), Wilkes (20) Rest of the World 1 Maradona (75, pen) Robbie Williams’ England side overcame a Rest of the World XI which included Diego Maradona to seal a 2-1 victory in the inaugural Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford on Saturday night. Not even a late penalty from arguably the world’s greatest ever player could prevent Terry Venables’ side from lifting the Cup in front of nearly 72,000 fans who had packed into the stadium. England began the brighter of the two teams and were unlucky not to take the lead in the opening stages. Their first effort on goal came from the lively Les Ferdinand who, after battling his way past Marcel Desailly, saw his fiercely struck shot hit the side netting after just three minutes. The former QPR forward went close again seconds later when his strike with the outside of his right foot was brilliantly turned away by United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel. Terry Venables’ side continued to press and almost went ahead through an unlikely source in the 10th minute. A mix-up in the Rest of the World (ROW) defence between Craig Doyle and Gordon Ramsay allowed Tony Adams, who had stayed forward from an earlier free-kick to steal in. Thankfully for the ROW, Schmeichel was in tip-top form and was on hand to block Adams’ shot. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y279/tc73/Said3.jpg Adams’ defensive partner Ben Shephard was the next England player to go close after a 60-yard run out of defence. A great one-two with Gazza put him clear only for a combination of Michael Greco and Gareth Thomas to thwart in him tracks. Schmeichel made another good block minutes later, this time with his feet, after a neat move involving Ferdinand, Adams and Bradley Walsh who had the final shot. The breakthrough finally arrived on 14 minutes when Ferdinand was rewarded for his hard-working endeavours upfront. Having successfully defended a corner, England keeper David Seaman bowled the ball out to Dean Lennox Kelly who fired a great pass out to Gazza on the right wing. His pinpoint cross to the far post allowed Ferdinand to plant a diving header past the helpless Schmeichel. England made it two six minutes later after a sublime run and finish from Jonny Wilkes. Gazza was once again the orchestrater after slotting a fine pass to Wilkes down the left wing. Wilkes, a former trainee with Everton, held off Doyle before cutting inside and chipping brilliantly over the advancing Schmeichel. The Rest of the World rarely threatened in the opening period; a weak header from Gordon Ramsay was the thing they had to show for their efforts, although Diego Maradona, who was making his first appearance at Old Trafford since the famous 1984 European Cup Winners’ Cup quarter-final clash between United and Barcelona, did show glimpses of his former self with some neat touches and a great array of passing. Despite their 2-0 lead, Venables was keen for his England side to keep the pressure on after the break and made his feelings clear during his televised half-time team-talk. A well-worked free-kick between Maradona and substitute Gianfrano Zola ten minutes after the restart brought about the best chance of the game for the Rest of the World side, but Zola could only head over from six yards out. The former Chelsea hero tried his luck again, this time with an Pele/Beckham-esque effort from the half-way line which floated just wide of substitute keeper Jamie Theakston’s post. At the other end, Wilkes went close with a powerful left-footed strike as the 72,000-strong crowd conducted a series of Mexican waves around the stadium. Zola continued to work his magic for the Rest of the World and after skipping past three England defenders was unlucky to see his shot well saved by Theakston, diving to his right in the 72nd minute. Three minutes later, however, the ROW pulled a goal back through Maradona after adeliberate hand-ball from England right-back David Gray allowed the Argentine to fire home from the penalty spot. The Rest of the World went looking for the equaliser and they should have had it through Zola two minutes from time, but the little Italian chipped over an open goal after great work from ROW manager Ruud Gullit. That proved to be the last of the goalmouth action as Robbie and Co. held out for a deserved victory - England fans everywhere will be hoping for more of the same come next month in Germany. 14. I'm out to settle a score Ian Wylie Manchester Evening News ROBBIE Williams is hoping to settle an old score when he steps out on to the pitch at Old Trafford next weekend. Soccer Aid (ITV1, tonight, 9pm) kicks off five days of coverage before the England v The Rest of the World match on Saturday night. Hosted by Ant and Dec, it's all in aid of children's charity Unicef and its partners, with teams made up of celebrities and ex-players. The project was thought up by Robbie and his pal Jonathan Wilkes. But Robbie will have someone else in mind when he steps out in Manchester as the England captain. "There's this guy who used to be the best player in our team when I was about 17. When I joined Take That, he said, `It's a good job you got into Take That, mate, cos you're ******* **** at football!' "Now, that'll be in my head on the night. But it'll be like, `Well, yeah, I might have been, but I'll be the only person captaining England, walking out of the tunnel at Old Trafford. "Then, the next thing is to not make myself look an idiot and prove him right." He adds: "There are real footballers in the England team, like Tony Adams and Paul Gascoigne, and they're really the captains. "I'm just the captain to make sense of the TV show. But I'm just going to try my best at left-back and try not to mess it up for the team." Robbie hopes to stay on the field for the full 90 minutes. "I played the other night and it felt like I'd been on the pitch for an hour and a half. When they told me it had been just 22 minutes, I wanted to cry." He hopes as many M.E.N. readers as possible will come along to the charity match. "Everybody's going to take it really seriously," he promises. "There might even be fights. And you get the chance to watch a load of celebrities make fools of themselves." Terry Venables, manager of the England side, says his mix of celebrities and six former players has bonded well during training. Both England and the Rest of the World team, captained by Gordon Ramsay, will be based in London until the end of the week. "Late Friday night we go to Manchester for the live game at Old Trafford on Saturday at 7pm," says Terry, "and that is something that everyone's looking forward to. "The motivation these boys have got for the match is just amazing. "There's not one bad guy in the group and the way they've mixed in together has been terrific. They're just good mates and the entertainers are asking the ex-players questions about what they should be doing. It's going to be a good night." Tickets for the Soccer Aid match are available from Ticketmaster: 0870 162 6883 or the Manchester United Box Office: 0870 442 1999.

  18. Robbie's red card for cigs ROBBIE Williams has given up smoking as he is so desperate to win Soccer Aid. The star has been a 60-a-day man since he was a teenager. Despite being teetotal and quitting drugs, the wicked weed is one habit he has not been able to kick. But the prospect of his celeb England team taking on Gordon Ramsay’s Rest of the World squad for charity has finally made Robbie chuck away the cigs for good. Corrie star Bradley Walsh, who is on Rob’s team, revealed: “We are calling him ‘No Cigs Robbie’. “He’s taking this very, very seriously and will do anything it takes to win. “And we will win. Gordon couldn’t even beat us at swearing, never mind footie.†Ex-Take That star Robbie, 32, once confessed he would like to quit smoking — but was too scared of piling on the pounds. He said: “The thing is, I’m a fat bloke inside this body and the minute I stop smoking, I’ll get even bigger. “It looks like I can’t give up until my fame runs out. Then I can be a healthy Robbie Nobody.†Meanwhile, there was drama at training yesterday when Gordon Ramsay was rushed to hospital after injuring his leg. The fiery Scottish chef will have treatment for the next few days in a bid to get him back into shape. Gordon told TV Biz: “I hit the ball and my right leg twisted. I was in the most incredible pain. “A scan revealed a muscle tear. I will absolutely not give up and am determined to lead the team out at Old Trafford. “If I wasn’t to play in this massive game against England I’d never forgive myself.†Soccer Aid kicks off tonight on ITV1 at 9pm with behind the scenes gossip and the match is on Saturday. YESTERDAY the players were challenged to a penalty shoot and the losers had to pay a whopping £50,000 to UNICEF of their own pockets. Tune in tonight to see who lost.
  19. Robbie’s Close Encounter with Australia Robbie Williams, music’s man with the Midas touch who shattered the Guinness Book of World Records for the fastest, and largest, number of concert tickets ever sold in one day — 1.6 million when the European leg of his World Tour went on sale in November 2005 — is confirmed to tour Australia and will end his World Tour, Robbie Williams: Close Encounters, here. Promoter, Michael Chugg, today announced that the “world’s favourite entertainer and most dynamic showman ever seenâ€, would perform stadiums in December, playing the country’s five major capital cities. The “let me entertain you†stadium-pop giant includes Perth, Adelaide and Brisbane for the first time in five years, and plays Sydney and Melbourne. At Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium, Robbie will be the first international act to make use of its concert potential and big-crowd facilities. Chugg says of his concert coup of the year that “the country is expected to join the ticket-selling phenomenon already experienced in every territory where Robbie Williams’ concerts have gone on sale.†He sold out five London shows, each with a capacity of 75,000. His Leeds’ concert sold out in 90 minutes. Holland sold-out their four Amsterdam Arena gigs in a breath-taking 89 minutes. In Germany a mass of 20,000 fans braved the cold to line the streets of Munich waiting for tickets to go on sale at midnight! To cope with demand, and in an unprecedented Australian first, tickets will go on sale across two days. Sydney, sold via Ticketek, and Melbourne via Ticketmaster, go on sale June 6. Adelaide and Brisbane both from Ticketek, and Perth from Ticketmaster, follow on June 7. “Alternating the ticketing outlets on different days, in different cities, will provide the best buying opportunities for fans,†said Chugg. Tickets will be sold with a strict six ticket per transaction limit. An internet pre-sale through robbiewilliams.com Inner Sanctum is scheduled from May 25. Record-breaking ticket sales are expected for what will be biggest stadium production show to ever tour Australia. “This is a rare occasion where Australia gets the exact concert that will be seen in the Northern Hemisphere,†says Chugg. “Because of the size and complexity of this technological monster, they’ll be bringing two stage roofs and rigs from the UK which will run in tandem and leap-frog across the country.†57 semi-trailers will be on the road. 30 steel containers and 27 trucks will transport staging, production and the six 400amp generators needed to power the pop-hunk’s super-sized show in Australia. Robbie’s World Tour starts in Dublin on June 9 and visits 14 countries on 44 different dates and will finish in Australia. It is estimated his live audience will total 2.6 million. Chugg concludes, “I am very excited that Robbie, whose love for Australia is well known, has agreed to play our major cities.†Each of the stadium concerts will be a combination of general admission (GA) tickets and allocated seats in the stands. No alcohol or bottles (including plastic) will be permitted in the GA areas. Pocket-size and mobile phone cameras will be permitted. Concert information like maps, arrival and departure times, and public transport options will be broadcast and printed in local media closer to each concert date. The 50-million-world-wide-album-seller topped the charts in 18 countries with his latest, Intensive Care. The new single, Sin Sin Sin is out in Australia June 3. In a story of unparalleled success this Australian tour will ink another chapter in the story that is Robbie Williams. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of pop history-in-the-making!

"It comes in the form of getting on stage in stadiums. "After that I'll say 'thank you very much' - it's not something I want to do (again) for a long time." Williams' Intensive Care world tour has sold out stadiums throughout Europe. Williams' Australian tour starts in Perth on December 1 before moving to outdoor shows in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane before his last show in Melbourne. "He's doing every state, which he hasn't done since 2002," Chugg said. "The only country getting more shows per capita is Germany." Tickets to see Williams will be priced at $149.95 for gold seats and $99.95 for silver, including booking fees. Tickets will be sold in a maximum of six for each transaction to prohibit scalpers buying in bulk. Williams' new album is due for release in September. Glasgow-born Gordon Ramsay, a former Glasgow Rangers footballer, captains the Rest of the World team, which is managed by former Chelsea and Newcastle United supremo Ruud Gullit. The former Take That's star's team includes best friend Jonathan Wilkes, GMTV presenter Ben Shephard, DJ Jamie Theakston and snooker champ Ronnie O'Sullivan. Among the former England players lending a hand are David Seaman, Tony Adams, Paul Gascoigne and John Barnes. TV chef Gordon Ramsay has picked ex-F1 racer Eddie Irvine, Tony Blair's former spin doctor Alistair Campbell, retired rugby star David Campese and pop star Brian McFadden. Among the ex-football stars joining the foul-mouthed chef are ex-Chelsea players Gianfranco Zola and Marcel Desailly, former Newcastle United winger David Ginola and German World Cup winning captain Lothar Matthaus. The squads will train together for one week with daily shows starting May 22 at 9pm on ITV1. Presented by Ant and Dec, the programmes will follow all the players as they look to prove they have got what it takes to be in the starting line-up for the big match, which is being shown live from Old Trafford on May 27. Proceeds from Soccer Aid go towards UNICEF, for which England captain Williams is a passionate ambassador.
