Radio 1 Playlist (13/02/26): You're always everywhere but I couldn't love you less
I think the scope of artists that are acceptable to be on Radio 1 has evolved over the years, and probably narrowed. I mean in 1995 they were A-listing Celine Dion and Enya

Radio 1 Playlist (13/02/26): You're always everywhere but I couldn't love you less
No, "World Of Our Own" remained C-list, by 2002 they were not really getting much Radio 1 support, their 1999/2000 singles did better usually being B-listed. But they were never Radio 1 darlings. I'd say the year boybands got the most support on Radio 1 it was 1998, you would have 911, Five, Another Level, Boyzone, all getting regularly A-listed. "Freeek!" got A-listed, and yeah he got plenty of support in 2004 too.

Radio 1 Playlist (30/01/26): I believe in the great doggy divide
I'd say 1999-2000 were the poppiest and also the danciest specially from summer 1999 to winter 2001 it was quite dance heavy. There were periods when more than half the A-list were dance hits. A lot of urban music also in 2001. 1997-1998 had more leftfield hits, the playlist was also a bit longer. Tomorrow with the new playlist update i'll share one from 2000.

Radio 1 Playlist (30/01/26): I believe in the great doggy divide
No info on "5,6,7,8" "One For Sorrow" was B-listed "Heartbeat/Tragedy" was B-listed "Better Best Forgotten" was B-listed "Love's Got A Hold On My Heart" was A-listed "After The Love Has Gone" was C-listed "Better The Devil You Know" was C-listed "Deeper Shade Of Blue" was C-listed "When I Said Goodbye/Summer Of Love" was C-listed "Stomp" was C-listed Their 2000 singles spent only 3 weeks max on the playlist. Their 2001 singles didnt get playlisted. @gooddelta since you're a big fan of them here is their history To be fair though, playlists didnt always align with how many times a song was played weekly. For example "Castles In The Sky" was only B-listed, yet it got between 25-30 plays each week, which was in line with what A-list songs got

Radio 1 Playlist (30/01/26): I believe in the great doggy divide
You would be incorrect "The One" was B-Listed "Shape Of My Heart" was only C-listed, but on the same playlist Westlife's "My Love" was B-listed, so was A1's "Same Old Brand New You". "The Call" however was completely ignored, but again, not cause they didnt like pop, must be a personal choice, cause around those same weeks they made Dream's "He Loves U Not" A-list. "More Than That" was ignored "Drowning" was also ignored 2000 still had lots of pop on the playlist actually, and it really depends on what songs they liked regardless of the artist. NSYNC could go all the way to the A-list or stall on the C-list. Same with Billie Piper, Lene Marlin, A1, Five, Jessica Simpon, Mandy Moore, S Club 7, etc, sometimes they would support one song a lot but not give another single much of a spin at all, for example they ignored Lene Marlin's "Sitting Down Here" yet A-listed "Unforgivable Sinner", and then cut back on their support for her with "Where I'm Headed" stalling on the C-list for like 3 weeks only. Between Steps and S Club 7, they definitely prefered S Club. 2001 had less pop than 2000 that's for sure, but artists like Britney, S Club, Five, Blue, Samantha Mumba, etc still got support.

gooddelta ranks the UK No.1s of 1999
Oddly I never enjoyed I Want It That Way that much, personally I find from the same album that Show Me The Meaning is a far better song, but I digress. Thought Mi Chico Latino would be much higher here too As for the 9PM vs On The Beach battle, I think I prefer OTB (although its the CRW remix everyone is talking about, not the original York version). That german chart reminded me of Andru Donald's cover of "All Out Of Love", easily my favorite version of that song and should've been released in the UK - I recon it would've been a hit there too Always enjoy giving Shanks, Vengaboys and Wamdue some spins, all are classics for sure. Maria is just a phenomenal song, and I was so glad it topped the UK charts, its cemented itself in history, while if it had charted at #2 I think it would be forgotten in the history books

I've had the opposite trajectory with "Lift Me Up", thought it was cheesy and corny at the time, now I love it. I just find her vocals so warm on the track, like a cosy blanket from the 90s, very nostalgic. The melody is super pretty too.
