Olive's #1 is more breakbeat (and trance to a lesser extent) than trip hop. Anyway, dance music is in a sorry state. I think its been a mediocre decade tbh, outside of a couple of thriving sub genres, the variety has decreased a lot since the late 90s / early 00s.

I'd love to know what Xmas classics are not really a thing in the UK, but are a pretty big deal in some other country. I'll start with Germany, with this great song by Melanie Thornton (also the vocalist of La Bouche) which is a Xmas staple over there (and some other countries). The singer is unfortunately no longer alive (she died in a plane crash in late 2001), but thankfully she had a brand new album released earlier that year that included this song, and now this comes back every year to the german charts to celebrate this time of year. I'm Alive was a very big hit for her in Europe. I noticed some mistakes on that list though. "Only One Road" made #8, and "Have You Ever Been In Love" is from 2002.

Yeah that version was played quite a bit here in Portugal for example, so Dannii's version was ignored.

In Your Eyes is easily one of her best songs, and has stood the test of time. CIMY is just a subpar version of CGYOOMH imo. Never liked it. She could've picked far better singles instead of it, such as Love Affair.

It spent 4 weeks at the top of the airplay chart, blocking Tina Turner. In terms of the sales charts, it wasnt a huge hit anywhere but it did do decently (in Finland it reached #2). It was the perfect fit for radio at the time. They did release a followup named 17 Again in Europe in early 2000, but wasnt nearly as successful. Only reached #27 in the UK. Usually it happens when dance music is out of favor from the general public, and so only covers or remakes are able to be big happened. Went through a similar phase in the mid 00s when dance wasnt doing great, and the only thing that would chart were covers, remixes, samples.

Waiting For Tonight and that Alena song are so amazing. Many memories Interesting that we had 2 dance songs charting this week that would be re-released in 2000 and do much better.
