Mariah Carey - E=MC²
1. Migrate - Definitely one of the stand-outs. Great beat, production, vocals. Really catchy song. Love the whistles at the beginning even if they are vocoded. 9.5/10
2. Touch My Body - Was really underwhelmed when I first heard this but it grew on me more and more. It's a fun song, definitely won't go down as a Mariah classic though IMO. 7.5/10
3. Cruise Control - Decent song, didn't really like her Jamaican accent lol. Can't see myself listening to this one that much really. 6/10
4. I Stay In Love - First ballad. Really like it, solid beat throughout and nice lyrics. Great belting at the end, bet she couldn't do it live though unfortunately. :( 8/10
5. Side Effects - Funky song, love the production and chorus. "I still live with the side effects." Don't think the rap is needed and I'm not a huge fan of just adding a random rapper to songs for not much reason. 8/10
6. I'm That Chick - Nice, happy song. It's refreshing after the quite urban and dark songs prior. I liked this when I first heard it live and still do. Not sure on some of the lyrics though lol. "Got flavour like ice-cream." 7.5/10
7. Love Story - Pretty bland and mediocre, not one of my faves. 5/10
8. I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time - Really like this, love the music and beat. Great chorus too and I like the pace too, doesn't move along too slowly. 8.5/10
9. Last Kiss - Not bad but not outstanding. Can't think of much to say about it really. 6/10
10. Thanx 4 Nothin' - Same as the last song, not brilliant but a solid track. I like her vocals at the end. 6/10
11. O.O.C - Really repetitive in parts but I like it, definitely better than the last two. Generic RnB really, could be sung by anyone. 7/10
12. For The Record - LOVE the production in this! Great music, sounds very mystical. Definitely one of my favourites, the ending is great with the whistles layered over. Fab vocals. 9.5/10
13. Bye Bye - Loved this from when I heard the leaked clip, very reminiscent of Hero. Beautiful lyrics and I love the production too. Solid beat but not too over-powering, definitely think this will do well as a single. Her belting at the end is amazing too. 9.5/10
14. I Wish You Well - A glimpse of old Mariah without the beats; love how it's piano-driven. I probably would have preferred the album to end on Bye Bye personally. Her vocals shine on this though. 8/10
Overall: Very good album I thought. Wasn't expecting to like it as much as I did but there are some amazing tracks in there. A few filler which I doubt I'll listen to much but that's to be expected of all albums really. Hope her voice improves with time in her live performances.

Today, April 3rd 2008, marks Leona's 23rd Birthday! Hope she has a great day and enjoys it. I bet #1 in the US was the best present she could get. :)
-
I knew it'd go #1, the record company had a great tactic of delaying the download until the airplay had built up. Good for her though, eighteen #1s is a massive achievement and the song has grown on me over time. I don't think it'll turn into a classic like some of her others though. I'm liking the sound of Bye Bye and Migrate more. :)

Because i'm sick of people slating Mariah for the SOLE purpose that she knocked off Leona, it's pathetic. Everybody knows Leona is definitely one of my favourite artists but slagging off other people because they're doing better is absurd. Some fans seem to be turning into another set of psychotic fans i'm all too familiar with... -_- There's a difference between disliking a song and saying that (as you did), and slagging off Mariah and her music in most posts, which some others have done...
As for the whole thing about the album, come on it's true. I hope Spirit does get to #1 in the US, but I can't see Leona managing to fend off Mariah's first week sales. This way i'm happy - both of my favourite artists are getting their turn at the top. I'm pleased Leona was #1, but I wanted Mariah to get her 18th #1 as well, so it's worked out for the best, they both get a turn. :P Same goes for the albums, I want Spirit to be #1, but I also want E=MC² to be #1 as well, so I do hope they both get their turn. ^_^
But how do you know that's the sole purpose? Maybe Big Mistake actually does think Mariah's song is dire regardless of Leona. It is possible lol, I seem to remember even you not being a huge fan of TMB. But I do agree, others shouldn't slag Mariah off because of being a Leona fan AND vice versa.
Add yeah it probably is true, I'm not fussed how long someone spends at the top of the album charts. I'd be fine if Mariah knocked Leona off the albums too just like she did with singles, doesn't take anything away from her.
-
I think she's saying it cos, there is starting to be an influx of retarded crazed Leona fans, who she would be ashamed of. Mariah's brilliant and Leona's good as well, we should just leave it like that!
I think that's slightly OTT. People are allowed to dislike Mariah's song without being branded "retarded" and "crazed" you know.

Apr 02 2008 - Birthday in New York
I went out on Friday in LA to celebrate ‘Bleeding Love’ reaching Number.1 out here, and had a great night! My travel mates gave me a surprise and popped party poppers and had massive balloons and a cake for me. We went to a lovely Thai restaurant then to a club where I met some of my friends I worked on the album with, I also bumped into Jesse McCartney. He’s so sweet and so happy about everything that’s been happening.
I’m going to Japan soon and I had some interviews with some TV shows from there whilst in LA. I really enjoyed meeting them and cant wait to go there. They brought me some beautiful gifts for my birthday, some traditional Japanese candles and scarves. I then had to leave LA and head to Boston where I went to visit the Open House Party radio show with John Garabeedian, it was so much fun and he is so supportive, THANK U JOHN!!!
The album is coming out soon and I still cant believe I’m getting the chance to share my music with so many people, thank you everybody for your love and support! Better go as I am in New York at the moment I just visited Z-100 who got me a lovely cake (have attached a photo!) and I’m now off to Sirrus satellite radio!
PS I also went to see the Movie ‘Shutter’ this week, it was quite scary and I jumped out of my chair a few times!
Lots of luv,
Leona

Just thought I'd make a poll to see which of the two new US songs do people prefer?
For me, I can't choose! Love them both equally which I didn't think I would. :)

This is the same Duffy who is on the Jay Leon's Tonight Show later this month? And Regis and Kelly? And Late Night with Conan O'Brien? Is VH1's "You Oughta Know" artist? And MTV's "Download and Discover" artist? And is being followed by US MTV for a weekly documentary? Was US iTunes free single of the week? Is a Rolling Stone artist to watch? The same Duffy who was hothoused by her record company for 4 years with writers and producers and was pimped all over Jools Holland three times before releasing Mercy?
Duffy is getting incredible support and promotion on both sides of the Atlantic from her record company. She deserves it as I love her music, but to suggest she's "having to work really hard" where as Leona isn't when they both have very similar promotional schedules is quite frankly bizarre. You also don't get to hear about the radio promotion Leona has been doing in Chicago, New York, LA, Boston etc visiting stations for interviews and the like - Duffy will be doing the same soon. It's the important but unsexy stuff that underpins any artist. Duffy's soon off to do the same sort of European promotion Leona's just come off the back of.
Spot on! Duffy is no different to Leona when you put it like that. She was definitely pimped by Jools Holland a LOT before releasing.
