Alex, Cheryl, JLS, Leona...
How long do we think this can last? Bad Boys got to Number 1 and then Cheryl knocked it off for a 2 week stay at the top. Now it looks likely that the chart will continue to be dominated by the X - Factor lot when JLS and Leona release new single in consecutive weeks. Then to top it off, we have the X-Factor Finalists releasing their version of You Are Not Alone on 16th November, before the winner releases their debut 14th December. Can the X factor lot dominate the chart until the start of the new year?

Mitchs Top 100 Singles of 2006
2006 Top 100 Singles http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/s_club_tete2/Elessars%20Realm/MitchBanner.png The chart is worked out using a points system following a songs chart run in the chart. Each week points are rewarded to the Top 25 songs. It works as follows: 1# - 30pts, 2# - 25pts, 3# - 23pts, 4# - 22pts etc. After 203 songs, 52 weeks, 365 days and 1 whole year, we now have our Top 100 singles of 2006. They range from ballads to dance tracks, pop songs to rap tracks, indie to R&B and soul to cheesy pop. But only one can be 2006's Top song and what will it be. 30 Number 1# Singles 201 Songs 1 Year 1 Winner So lets kick off our chart with the song that narrowly missed out on a top 100 placing: #101 Orson - Already Over / Points Total: 74 Note: When a point’s score tie takes place the song that I currently prefer will get the higher chart position. The Top 100 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/BUN112CD.JPG #100 Ordinary Boys – Lonely At The Top / Points Total: 78 The first of three Ordinary Boys songs on the chart and the first being there most recent hit Lonely At The Top. Lonely At The Top managed 6 weeks on the chart and a peak at #7. What I did dislike about this song is the way it seems to be a diss at 15 minutes of fame and reality TV shows but if it was not for Big Brother Preston & the Ordinary Boys would have been dropped by now. I just wonder when Prestons 15 minutes will be up? http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/HEL3004DVD.JPG #99 Muse – Knights Of Cydonia / Points Total: 78 Before this year I had never been a Muse fan but now I’ am and it shows as there are 3 Muse songs in the Top 100, Knights Of Cydonia being the first. Knights Of Cydonia is still in the chart at #10 on its fifth week. Its peak is #8 and with a points total of 78 after just five weeks. Knights Of Cydonia is sure to reach triple digits by the end of its chart run. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1713050.JPG #98 The Feeling – Love It When You Call / Points Total: 79 The Feelings first of four songs at the chart enters at a surprisingly low #98. This song peaked at #3 and managed 3 weeks in the Top 5 but only manages a low score of 79. Why? Well after 4 weeks of Love It When You Call it dropped out of the chart hence its low score. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9876653.JPG #97 Son Of Dork – Eddies Song / Points Total: 80 Quite embarrassingly here is No.97 Eddies Song. When working out the Top 100 I was appalled to discover this song was so high and then I discovered it peaked at #4 and spent 5 weeks on the chart. My excuse for this piece of c**p being on my chart. It was only my 3rd chart ever but I doubt any one will believe that. This was the second single from Son Of Dork and is the first of two songs to feature an ex Busted member. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/1713137.JPG #96 U2 & Greenday – The Saints Are Coming / Points Total: 80 U2 & Greenday both make #96 with there songs originally performed at a concert for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. On paper this song looked like the ultimate duet between two of the best bands and frontmen of the last 10 years. However it was not as good as you would have expected. Still it did managed 7 weeks on the chart, a peak at #5 and only dropped out of the chart last week. This is Greenday’s only song on the chart this year and U2’s first of two. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876825902.JPG #95 Shayne Ward – No Promises / Points Total: 81 No Promises is the second single from X-Factor Winner Shayne Ward following up from his Christmas #1 (UK Chart) That’s My Goal. Shayne in recent months has seemed to disappear but apparently he will be back with his second album and that is the real test for Shayne. Reality TV Winners rarely do well but if Shayne can produce a successful second album he could become the next Will Young or it could flop and he could be the next Gareth Gates. We will find out which very soon. Still Shayne did make a peak at #4 and 6 weeks on the chart. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/12PER008.JPG #94 Paul Oakenfold ft Brittany Murphy – Faster Kill Pussycat / Points Total: 82 Paul Oakenfold only song in the Top 100 is at #94 is the first dance track to be featured in the chart. Brittany Murphy features in this song which peaked at #8 in its 6 week run on the chart. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/3418232.JPG #93 Robbie Williams – Advertising Space / Points Total: 82 Robbie Williams is one of four artists who have had four songs in the chart during the year. However, only Advertising Space made the Top 100 while Rudebox, Sin Sin Sin and Lovelight all did not. This year Robbie has faced much criticism over his new album Rudebox , which by Robbie’s standards is flopping. Had only he reunited with his old band Take That 2006 may have been much better for Mr.Williams. Every cloud does have a silver lining and this one is that Advertising Space managed 7 weeks in the chart peaking at #5 http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/SKCD87.JPG #92 Editors – Blood / Points Total: 83 The Editors decided to cap an astonishing start to the year with the re-release of Blood in June. Being the first time I heard this track it entered my chart for the first time and became the third Editors track to be on my chart. However, Blood performed much worse than the other tracks and was the only Editors single not to make the Top 5. Blood did manage to peak at #10 and did stay around for an impressive 8 weeks. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/82876884372.JPG #91 Beyonce – Déjà vu / Points Total: 83 Beyonce returned in style with the release of Déjà vu following up from her debut in 2003. Déjà vu feature Beyonce’s rapper fiancé Jay-Z who came out of retirement to perform this song with the ex-Destiny’s Child star. Déjà vu is from B-Day, Beyonce’s second album as a solo star, and it is also the first of two singles that appear in the Top 100. Déjà vu peaked at #5 and stayed on the chart for 7 weeks. http://www3.hmv.co.uk/hmv/Large_Images/HMV/9883123.JPG #90 All American Rejects – Move Along / Points Total: 83 The quartet returned in 2006 with a new album, Move Along, and three singles released from it. Move Along is the title track to the second album and is the bands first song on the Top 100. However they still have to more to come as we count down towards the #1 spot. Move Along peaked at #4 and remained in the chart for a total of 6 weeks.
