I also disagree with the statements that Italy this year wasn't good. Maybe not top 5 good but top 10 for sure. The staging was amazing, the song indeed seemed nostalgic and catchy enough, the meaning was 100% transparent even if you don’t understand a single word in Italian and the story kept me captivated the whole time. It’s not the most modern song by any means and can seem corny out of context but I was living. Quite impressive how we got two 50+ year olds in the top 6 this year, I’m pretty sure this is a rare occasion.

It’s not just the Italian language, although it definitely helps stand out. Italy always send extremely confident performers or straight up belters with a decent song (most of the time - I was not a fan of their 2025 entry at all) that knows its audience. I mean it is also most of the time a winner of a huge national song contest so that helps a lot lol I would loooove for UK to use something other than English (which had actually never happened before !!). There’s Scots, there’s Welsh, there’s Irish!!! The overwhelming majority of the entrants recently have been from England too which is such a waste of talent and potential. P.S: I don’t count this year’s terrible pronunciation of the three most basic german words which added nothing to or changed the song in no way as a venture into foreign languages LOL

From an outside perspective, this just didn’t translate and never went anywhere. A successful song will always have a point of view that won’t depend on the lyrics being understood. I feel like many people here expected Europe to get on board because it had a meaning and it was different from the previous years? There was no cultural element that you wouldn’t find anywhere else either. I’m sorry to be this blunt but this was just a mid song with a performance bordering on gimmicky but not committing to it. This rarely translates into points, especially this year when the favourites were a very diverse bunch in terms of genres and very televote friendly. I mean even Serbia and Croatia suffered this time and would’ve easily gotten 100+ any other year, for example.

Fun fact. This is the first time ever that a Semifinal opener went ahead to win the whole thing. First Semifinal winner that opened its Semi was Rybak in 2018 though.

That poor Swiss lesbian finishing 9th in both votes but 11th overall. :( Also, apparently a 3rd + an 8th gives you 2nd overall. Even if the country in question wasn’t a genocidal tyrant, it still would be ridiculous Juries need to get their shit together. I don’t remember them being so biased and predictable in years. For example, Greece <-> Cyprus and Croatia <-> Serbia was insane.

Hoping that the campaigning will not get even more severe now given this is 2nd place twice in a row now. Let’s not give them any ideas x

It’s so difficult to rank my top 3 especially but my top 11 of the night looks something like this 01 Australia 02 Bulgaria 03 Finland 04 Denmark 05 Greece 06 Serbia 07 Moldova 08 Czechia 09 Croatia 10 Romania 11 Ukraine the rest are not that worth ranking really.
