My boyfriend and I finally decided to check this out and absolutely hated episode 1. Not because it’s necessarily bad but because it doesn’t go anywhere. It’s barely anything more than a soft core porn drama with cliché writing and bland characters. Maybe I’ve watched too many shows in my lifetime so my standards are high but this is sooo vanilla and is clearly made by someone who has very little to do with gay/queer culture. Straight women can have it though, I can’t be too mad. The casting is great and most of the Russian language I heard seems to be from native speakers (apart from the main character but it’s okay). I just wish that at some point we get a mainstream gay character who is more than a white cis (muscular) body with a somewhat tragic love story. For what it’s worth this has been thoroughly explored by European indie cinema in the last 20 years.

43 songs. The desperation. Maid of Honour is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve heard all year. I couldn’t even listen to it in full. The production is so rudimentary and doesn’t go anywhere. Lyrically it seems to have been written by an incel. Please stay out of dance music Drake, or quit music altogether. Please. The desperation to start another fake feud is crazy. Like Jay-Z would even care. All of this could’ve been a passable EP with 6 songs.

In the end I (partially and not live) watched the semifinals and only liked 10-12 songs in total. But the top favs are SLAYYY so many countries do still make effort, which makes the whole thing even sadder. I also filled in that questionnaire. Personally I strongly doubt it will make much of a difference as we are still in 2026 and for the most part EBU is a bunch of white people pushing boomer age but we can try.
