How high will Judy Garland chart this week?
I think people won't be fooled by the sun, Rupert Murdoch loved Maggie. After all she destroyed fleet street Unions for him. This song is not just a five minute wonder people over 35 know what Thatcher did to the country, some love her but most hate her. I reckon it has a good chance of number one but top three is almost guarenteed

Airline to charge passengers by the kilo
not only is this policy sexist against men. It is racist as Chinese and Asian people in general tend to be smaller, and Samonas themselves are larger than most other races....and in most countries it woud be a slippery slope

Margaret Thatcher has died
I will be one of the few to not beat about the bush here, she was an awful woman who destroyed countless lives, and I for one am glad that she is finally no longer a force for evil in this world.

Female Solo Artists Who Have Debut No.1 Singles & Albums
Of course Work it out counts, What does it matter if it was a track from a soundtrack, if it had went to number one, and crazy in love hadn't you would count it, so you can't play that game. It seems Kylie was the first female to do this, and one of the few who have had more than one number one album and single....... and hopefuly more to come

The 1% are Destroyers of Wealth.
Interesting...... although it has been obvious to me for many years that there is a rich club who controls the financial economy..... and as for money is a reward for hard work, if that is so why are nurses, and care givers for disabled children not the wealthiest people in the world?

Should The UK Spilt Up?
I don't see what Salmon wants is relevant to the Euro, after independence the question of what currency we use would be up to the Scottish public, his own party is not united on adopting the Euro. Citizenship is important as it does give you extra rights over the free movement legislation, such as the right to vote in national elections, a passport which gives visa free travel in differnet nations across the world, plus you can not be deported it might not see like much, but if Scotland become indepent European citizens who are not Scottish citizens will lose the automatic right to vote for the Scottish parliament, and Scottish citizens who are overseas just now will regain the right to vote for the parliament which they currently aren't entitled to do. Also I didn't question wether you are for or against Schengen, I merely stated I was for it....as you said we would be forced into the passport free zone.

excessive sentences for rioters?
It does but time served would have been more apropriate, but hopefully its the start of taking the politice out of sentencing

Should The UK Spilt Up?
I dpn't actually think being a part of schenging is a bad thing, and the EU can't stop us legislating who we give citizenship too, as for the Euro well the pound would remain Scotlands currency until we decided to abandon it, and as it is not tied to the Euro we would never reach convergence, much in the same way as Sweden which is technically legally bound to join the Euro, but the Krona has never met the criteria to do so, because the Swedes have delibrately failed to meet them

excessive sentences for rioters?
but tell me what damage has been done to our communties by the banks that excessivley pursued profit over good sense, and who has been punished for that, and while I don't agree whith looting shops, I think the two men jailed for four years who did not take part in the riots but suggested people should riot in their areas on facebook, have had their freedom of expression stripped from them, and have been too severly punished considering they are first offenders, and we should all be able to express views repugnent to the establishment without feat of sanction
-
Should The UK Spilt Up?
I for one believe Scotland should be an indepent small nation, who is free to conduct her own affairs, but have a close relationship with England, including automatic citizenship for citizens of any british Isles nation after 2 years residence in Scotland, and also immediate permanent residence for any british isles citizen.... I also believe we need to maintain the closest relationship with England that we can, including monetary union.

excessive sentences for rioters?
What I am suggesting is that civil disobedience has always been a valid form of rebellion, and although the riots have been portrayed as layabouts on the rampage they are anything but, instead the people involved have been excessively punished, much less than Mps fpr example who have rorted the system or the fat cat traders who through excesses destroyed the UKs banks and got away with the govenment bailing them out.... instead the people on the fringe of society are severly punished when they demonstrate their anger (wether rightly or wrongly)more so than if they were part of the wealthy elite

excessive sentences for rioters?
What do you think about the way people have been treated by the courts ofver the riots, I personally think it demonstrates what kind of culture the UK has become, our freedoms have evaporated and we have become a nation of fear and brutality, the government has stripped us of any rights we once held, and I can understand why people rioted, but maybe I shouldn't say that as I might face 4 years in jail for demonstrating free speech

Crunch-hit Brits buy up food that's 'out-of-date'
you can eat beef such as steaks but not mince past it sell by date, but only a day or two as it often tastes better as it ages, as for anything else if it has a best before date it is fine to eat it afterwards, but id it has a use by date you shouldn't eat it after that date, best before that means just that best before a certain date, and are only on a product because legislation states all food should be dated

Tories vow to empower citizens in fight against crime
And when that speeding motorists kills your child/mother/brother will you be so keen then to reduce traffic cops, speeding is dangerous, and dangerous driving is a crime, and is as anti social as mugging etc.....

marking in red pen
Hate to disagree with you but public sector workers now earn on average more than private sector workers, so their retirement plans are actually no longer sustainable when you consider that they are subsidised by those private sector workers who earn less and have much less of a pension than public sector workers

Big Acts Failing Expriencing 'Flop' Singles
This debate is pretty much nonsense, the official singles chart is just that a run down of the top 75 selling songs in the UK, now that downloads are included any song that enters the top 75 is a single, ie one song, and therefore becomes part of that acts run.......this debate would not be happening if all of these download songs had hit the top ten, people would have no trouble claiming them as part of that run. It's unfortunate your favourite acts top ten run ended but get over it, it did. There is no spin which can end that fact. The reality is always having top ten hits doesn't mean much. Except to fans, and by saying lets exclude this song cause it doesn't have a video, well that would mean all the songs of the 50's and 60's would be excluded, or this song if it doesn't have a physical release (chart rules were changed a few years ago to specifically include them). If a song enters the top 75 wether you like it or not it becomes a part of their chart record, end of story, so GA, Kylie, Madonna etc...... have ended their runs in the top ten. And another thing just because the media say GA have a run of 19 top tens doesn't make it true, lots of lazy journalists don't research their facts properly.

Is Britain too health and safety obsessed ?
It may also be that the roads are considered dangerous, as accidents increase in snowy weather, and by reducing traffic on the road you are actually reducing accidents and saving lives, and what better way to do this than shut schools
-
Is Britain too health and safety obsessed ?
MMMM I think that stupid dick and dom in the bungalow was like tiswas, and growing up in the 80's my school quite often shut in bad weather and it was for health and safety reasons, such as the boiler system did not work adequately to heat the school to the required minimum temperature on really cold days, so it was unsafe to open..... I don't see the point of this thread you don't know the reasons each individual school closed for, so how can you say its health and safety gone mad?

Are injured feelings really worth more than a lost limb?
Perhaps it is, but then perhaps soldiers have a duty under international law to refuse to serve, especially after the Nurenberg trials established this, although the authorities in this country have coluded to make sure anybody refusing under this law is dealt with severly....yet another infringement on civil liberties

The Day UK Democracy Died!
Not only that but the police had a duty to inform the official they approached that they could be refused permission to search in the commons and they failed to do that. read this for the full story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7762005.stm Yet again another example of the Met bending rules to suit themselves, which is something people upholding the law should not be doing.... they should be an example for us, and not hell bent on getting results at the expense of due process
