In no way can you lump all SNP voters and say they are English hating scum, for most it has nothing to do with the English, instead I would argue it is about doing what is right for the people of Scotland, and in the end who is always going to fight for the Scots, a party that only stands for elections in Scotland, or UK wide parties who have to compete within in their parites for the attention to be thrown on their nation/region. Also the Scottish people are reluctant to ever vote tory again after the devastation Thatcher caused to Scotland, therefore the only alternative to Labour who are as unpopular here as in England are the Left wing SNP, who have proven themselves in the short space of time they have been Scotlands government, so don't be surprised if Labour continues to lose ground in Scotland, even if they did win this by-election, if you think about it though, the SNP increased their vote by 50% and even though it seemed a comforable win for labour it actually halved their majority which must be worring some of their party analysts

but the amount of money the government is promising the banks would surely cover the loss in pensions etc... as for the arguement banks are different I don't agree. Yes there would be hardship but maybe a fairer system would emerge where banks woul;dn't rip their customers off, make massive profits then allow it to be gambled away, institutions like that don't deserve our help, and anyway the government should transfer all accounts from failing banks into a government account run by the government where there is not the potential for greedy banks to make excessive profits and pay excessive wages

but isn't that what the government has done, by propping up the banks, after all aren't they just failed companies that have made bad decisions, why should they receive a handout and no one else?

but this is a contest between the SNP and labour which is very different to between the tories and Labour, as the SNP are the government of Scotland, and seem to be doing better in government than labour has done, they remain popular with the public, while on the other hand the tories are the opposition in England, and its easy to win byelections as an opposition as its just a protest against the government

Any systems that puts the pursuit of money at the root of its achievements is fataly flawed. That is capitalism. Nowadays on the news we hear thousands die in a natural disaster, and then we are told what the financial cost of it is. Who cares how much it costs, what we really should care about is how to make the lives of billions more comfortable, after all if large corporations stopped fleecing us all and we shared the wealth much more fairly the world would be a much better place

free drinks to women is actually wrong, imagine if it were free drinks to whites, straights etc.... it is discriminatory and at the moment it is against the laws for bars to discriminate on any grounds, secondly making sure all staff are trained properly is good. I have worked in the bar industry for 10+ years, and most staff are not always fully aware that they as an individual can be prosecuted for serving short measure, serving underagers, serving drunk people etc... so official training in this is a good thing, and I don't believe it will drive casual people out of the profession, in Australia all bar staff must hold a responsible service of alcohol certificate, and it hasn't discourged people from taking bar work, in fact it has pushed up their wages as they need a certificate, and the job is only avialable to people who have sat the one day course, therefore making it slightly harder to find staff

Good idea they already have randomn breath testing in Australia and New Zealand, and it is a great deterent. They also have zero breath alcohol levels for people under 20 and also in some states for those who have been driving for under 3 years, and the rates of drink driving are low

Some people believe the UK should leave the EU and enter a political arrangement with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, where either full political integration occurs or an EU style relationship with free trade and free movement of people around these nations, because we have a shared heritage and culture. Actual in coutries such as Brazil where people 16+ can vote, the turnout of people voting has increased, and lets face it, if you are old enough at 16 to be tried as an adult for crimes committed, and old enough to make the decision to leave school, then surely you should be old enough to vote.

I don't see why Scotland wouldn't continue to use the pound after all our banks already print their own pounds. As for tv channels well STV would propably stay and I'm sure BBC Scotland would be transformed to SBC, as the parliament would full control over broadcasting, and Westminister would no longer have any say, we would get programmes more focused to Scotlands need like Ireland and New Zealand have

What is the purpose of prison? What does it do to stop crime? Should prisoners loose basic human rights? Are there more successful alternatives to stopping crime? Do governments have a right to deny individuals basic rights? Are prisons really soft? Would you like to be in prison? How bad is someones life if prison seems a good option to them? Do the press exagerate how easy prison is? These are all questions to ask yourself before you say prison is too easy/hard. I for one don't think prison works, and for a lot of offences it seems a complete over reaction. I say yes to prison for serious and persistant violent, and sexual offenders, and non custodial alternatives for everyone else. I also think less offences should be criminal, and more should be civil, with no record available to employers etc...

I wouldn't mind the fact that the richer are getting richer, except that those companies making a billion pounds a month do nothing to help social development, do not pass the success onto their customers, they tell us things are more expensive, but their profits sore faster, and if you think about it, if they were truly keeping their prices as low as they could they would be making the same percentage of profit as last year and not more. It is those that are less well off that always suffer most, it's about time someone did something, too much in this world is about the pursuit of money and not enough about fairness

the referendum would be the vote. All though there is nothing in UK law to force the UK parliament to implement a referendum result, in a democracy it would be hard to ignore the will of the people if they voted yes to independence
