Spice Girls • General Discussion
OK, so forgive in advance for the long post about my feelings. I so hope this is true, but I have been so upset when things haven't worked out previously. I was all for the 3 piece GEM project and was heartbroken when Geri quit. I was also really down for new music from a 4 piece band without VB in 2012/13 until Melanie C put paid to that so I don't wanna get too excited. Obviously any project or photoshoot would get me excited, but I am finding it quite hard to believe that VB would want to take part in anything that involves performing? I thought even at the Olympics she looked uncomfortable - a big difference from the ROTSG era VB who initially seemed to really enjoy the performing. If the TV special is another bloody Giving You Everything/Viva Forever documentary i'll be a tad disappointed, I wanna see something more along the lines of An Audience With... something a bit more interactive. I'd love to see them perform Viva Forever again, something stripped back. It's a shame they didn't perform on The X Factor (when it was big!) in 2012 to promote the musical, that would have been quite a big boost for them. I assume all the papers saying 'new album' they mean a hits collection/anthology type thing, rather than a fourth studio album. If its just another Greatest Hits though, I think it would be better to repackage the 2007 one, with a bonus disk or whatever, so that the sales talley adds onto the existing one, rather than a new one that sells <100,000 copies (sales are really low these days). And for gods sake release the bloody thing on vinyl. Promotion is always going to be an issue, VB isn't going to suspend her fashion line for six months to promote something Spice related, so I guess a TV special is about as good as its gonna get, but I did always wish they would do a one-off stadium show, rather than a tour, something that VB would be more likely to be able to do time-wise, but again her lack of interest in performing would put paid to that. If they did though, they could do a one-off or two-night show, film it and whack it out on DVD.. mission accomplished haha. I agree with the comment above about a Graham Norton show, maybe they could do it as a special where the only guests are the Girls or maybe have the other guests as people the girls have a relationship with, David, Simon would be obvious go-to people. I'd also like to see them do something a bit more low key, such as This Morning, where they always had a good relationship. I admire the girls for still doing stuff like that even when they were global icons, these days acts do one performance and expect the music to sell on twitter fanbase alone. One last thing, is expecatation of image... Melanie B looks amazing all the time. The outfits they wore to promote Headlines were ridiculous! they underwear in the video and then bloody Top Hat Spice on the TV performance! I just want them to look like what the Spice girls would look like in 2017.. not mutton dressed as lamb, but not like they are about to go to a black tie event. The Olympics were a good example of them getting the styling bang on. I'm not moaning by the way, just thinking about how if this really does happen, it will really be the last hurrah for the girls and i'm just thinking about how perfect it could be in my head haha. Whatever happens, I'll be here for the ride. Just like always. Girl Power! XO

Throwback! Anniversaries of Spice Girls moments
its been a very consistent seller for sure, but i also thought it would sell more, especially as Girls Alouds first GH sold over 1m, released 12 months before. I feel like a Vinyl would have boosted sales long term, and if it was stocked in the super markets with those 3 pound CDs. *if* the rumours of a new album next year are true, I hope its a repackage with say a bonus CD rather than a whole new greatest hits, then the sales will all count as one right

How did you get into the Spice Girls?
I was six years old and had up until this point been a 'fan' of Gina G's 'oooh aah...' and then watching her on TOTP one day, there was this bizarre song at number three. It kept coming up on the Box and one day I listened/watched it. The very next day I had the cassette out of Woolies and that Sunday it was announced as the number one. From that point on (like a lot of others) it was buy Smash Hits, TOTP Mag... watch The Box and TOTP and whatever else in the hope the video would come on, buy every single thing that had their name on... blah blah blah. '2 Become 1' was probably the start of the peak for me that lasted until 'Too Much', in that time it seemed everybody was a fan. Then in 1998, I got to go to the NEC Birmingham on 3 May to see the Spiceworld tour. Throughout 98 I continued to be a huge fan, following every step of the US tour in the press and during the second half absolutely hating Geri for leaving. It felt like Forever for 2000 to come around, see what I did there...., I'd grown up a little, I was now a 10/11 year old, off to secondary school. Realised I was gay. I also had become an S Club fan (something that didn't last forever, despite how into them I was at the time) and Forever was such a polished and mature collection. I remember being a bit disappointed that RBAY had changed from the tour, and I was really hurt about Melanie Cs appearance. I actually hated that she had gone so buzzing. I always remained a fan, despite the 'teenage years' and bought all the solo records. By 2001, i'd forgiven Geri. I guess Melanie C was now the one i avoided and I didn't buy Beautiful Intentions at all. Emma sought of kept the Spice alive for me with Free Me. Geri too with Passion. In 2006, a year that will forever be a special year. I remember it being 10 years since the Spice Girls became big and I spent a whole day just listening/watching and reminiscing and thinking what a lucky person to have found something that connected with me so well. I also felt like I was who i'd become thanks to those five girls. Of course, i was extatic at the 2007 reunion and it seemed that the whole world was too. I bought This Time, unlike the rest of the world, fell in love with Headlines, embraced that winter, the opportunity to follow the tour in the media, see them live (three times), buy The Greatest Hits, see them on TV doing adverts again... it was incredible. I childishly thought they would stay together and make new music... and so it was so sad to see it all end again. 2012 was the iconic for me. That Olympics performance cemented their place in history as musical legends. Viva Forever! may not have been the roaring success the girls wanted, but i'm glad they had a brief moment on the West End. 2012 was great for band pics, feeling like they are always there in some form. Of course, I was all for the GEM project in 2016, but I respect that they decided against it. I will always blame Melanie C for not taking part in a reunion that she seemed so comfortable with for years before 2016. Anyway, its now fall 2017 and it will be soon time to have a daily listen of 2B1, TM and Goodbye. I reset my iTunes plays on 1 January every year, and in my Top 150 Most Played, 2 Become 1 is sitting proudly at the number 2 position, having been played 226 times since January 1 2017. '

the Greatest Hits is loosing sales in the streaming era which is annoying, though I suppose its better to have one version doing well. I love Goodbye, but the girls have so many good ballads, that 2 Become 1 always gets the 'christmas attention' over Too Much and Goodbye. Whatsmore, 'Viva Forever' is the 'acclaimed' ballad. Its a shame that 'Headlines' hasn't managed to find an audience, its a little gem.

theres an article in the sun saying that Simon is now the point of contact for any use of their name/material and that Melanie C is back in discussions for a reunion with the girls (minus VB)

heartbreaking the way Headlines was managed. Such a beautiful song and still played loads by me. Wish they just did one release date and at least they would have gotten a #5

These songs didn't make number one.. despite tirelessly being promoted to the point at one point when two band members were sick. 93iIib5oLOw eEnz3r2F-Bw DgmoYgpMNX8 KdtIfp7WB0w LmncQGy_7Lk Yet this did. Not promoted at all (i.e. performed on tv, promoted around the country etc) weeI1G46q0o Im actually having sleepless nights worried about Cheryl for when she comes back. I guess Higher is top 200 on iTunes, 7 years after release. Hope that nasty girl Taylor can say the same. Kim was right she is nasty snake.

there is no f***ing justice in the world. Pop music is f***ing dead. Taylor can release fart, so could JB and it would be #1 for seven months, its a f***ing piss take then you have passionate songwriters and performers like Mollie who make so much more effort to promote and they don't get a look in. f*** YOU SPOTIFY.

Mollie King - Hair Down
Emma got that #3 with Downtown off the back of Strictly, with a #14 and #68 either side of it.

Mollie King - Hair Down
I think its wise move to release at the start of strictly too.. rather than waiting until the show is over, that would be the time to drop the album and a third single. Just hope she does well enough on SCD to last long enough and raise her profile. I know BTY wasn't massive and that the girls ended on a somewhat low, but she could still nab performance slots on shows like Children In Need, Text Santa, Loose Woman and This Morning.

Mollie King - Hair Down
shes probably going with the 75% thing just incase it doesn't get a release. I adore Back To You, but it wasn't designed to be performed, so I'm glad she is going down the dance routine etc. route. Would be amazing if she got a high profile promotion slot such as actually performing on Strictly. I doubt she would get TXF (which is not the platform it once was anyway) because of Strictly.
