  1. kind of surprised Disclosure isn't climbing more...

dropped Gaga just as soon as the video premieres. it's too bad she waited so long into the campaign to release this - had it been given second single attention it could have been huge

"who'd have known" was good but not great as a single. i can see why they released it though - to at least get some diversity in her single choices rather than just all totally upbeat but beyonce's "4" on the other hand... what the hell are they doing??? this is the messiest release schedule i've seen for a pop artist in ages (maybe ever?). it's like they just have no faith in developing any of the songs with long-term promo or performances and are just throwing everything out there in the hopes that miraculously one will become a hit (hint to label: that rarely happens, especially after a flop first single...)

so strange to see them switching beyonce tracks just when "countdown" is starting to climb in the top 40. what the hell?
  5. videos have been filmed for both "countdown" and "party" but maybe "party" will just be a minor/limited single release... i can see "love on top" performing better, especially given it's top 20 debut in the US based off just one performance
  6. christina's had a bonus DVD in some deluxe editions, but it was only a single-disc album otherwise (and missing some big hits for whatever reason) rihanna's had tons of hits but they're all so recent in pop memory that she'd maybe need a break before a GH i think
  7. i think it's too soon for girls aloud to be honest. maybe if they have another album and some side singles under their belt first. they've only had 6 single releases since the GH, the last of which (untouchable) sort of came and went, so i honestly think it would be overkill at this point. goldfrapp are actually set to release a GH before their next album (supposedly). they are no longer with mute/EMI and have agreed to participate in a best-of release. i'd venture a guess at the fall market for that one. they're currently recording album six, so we'll see what happens i agree about rihanna - she definitely has enough tracks for an awesome collection (especially with the best of her collaborations included or as bonus material) but she's been releasing at such a rapid rate in a very short span that it does kinda seem too soon regardless for me a big annoyance is GH collections that came out either too soon, too quickly after a first GH, or were just screwed up by dumb tracklists and overall poor release details. examples of this (sorry if a bit off topic but worthy of relevant discussion): - christina aguilera : WAY too soon, with some extra material down the line and a better tracklist could have been great - britney's second singles disc : also, released too soon after her first, with a pointless tracklisting, only one new track, and crappy formats. she should have just tacked "3" onto a re-release of "circus" (or even as a standalone) and waited until after "femme fatale" to update the singles collection. no wonder it sank like a stone. - depeche mode : most recent set was pretty redundant of their previous 2 and only had one new track. they should have either waited for more material to add, or else made it a more complete set (like a 1CD and 2CD edition or something, not the lame DVD with only some videos) - U2 : their U218 singles set was kinda lame and not long enough after their 1990-2000 set to provide much fresh perspective any others to add?

it will be very interesting to see how this plays out and if it catches on. i'm especially interested to see how this plays into a normal album cycle

it also will depend on how much certain artists care about chart positions, like you said. it's still very possible to have a big hit off an album that's been successful - if it's a song that catches on, casual buyers will still buy it as a download just like physical singles in their prime. now, without the physical release push though, second, third, etc. singles that are big hits tend to have lower peaks. so i can see the girls alouds and spice girls of the future releasing minimal singles from an album and having one-offs more for sure.

i heard on floppop that EMI have chosen to make "Viva La Vida" chart ineligible. anyone else heard this?

i don't understand what's up with mint royale. why is this three-year-old single suddenly hot? (for those of us not in the UK)
  12. they're being dumb with single choices for sure! "hold on" is the catchiest thing on the album, yet not even a third single...

so many great songs! now, not so much...

i'm also a bit surprised that Amy's "frank deluxe" isn't doing better. obviously i don't live in the UK so i don't know the level of promo (probably low based on comments) but you'd think after it being on the charts the past year and a half and her continued success and tabloid coverage...
  15. they should get really high first week sales (at LEAST 350,000 in the UK, 450,000 US) but sales are so much lower even than they were 3 years ago when X&Y came out so its hard to really compare just straight numbers. it'll debut strongly off hype and name alone, then stick around in the upper reaches with a good second single and tour promotion
  16. it's really impressive that "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" got so high on the list without any gimmicks. most of the songs above her were tied into a reality show or special event or something. $ucce$$
  17. FINALLY kylie hits a list! and a bit late catching on to heartbreaker lol

really ouch for mariah, but especially for goldfrapp :( on the bright side the album is sticking around. bring on caravan girl!
  19. deep_honey posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
:nono: goldfrapp should damn well be a-list! sure, it's no "ooh la la," but it's a great track and i'm glad they're finally getting the mainstream exposure they've long deserved (though i kind of liked having nobody know them but me back in the day!). at least their music isn't stuck in a holding pattern like half of what's on the playlists these days. agreed that kylie will rocket to a-list. this should be huge!

hooray for Goldfrapp! i'm glad they're continuing to crack mainstream radio with their new sound. now if only the US was as open-minded...
  21. to be totally fair, madonna's single has been out to radio for ONLY 3 weeks now and is rapidly gaining each week. mariah and leona have both had a pretty long time on radio in comparison, so it's not really down to "mariah is just inevitably performing better than madonna." it could be a big radio hit for madonna, or at least compared to her last many singles, it's just that sales got to a high point first. it'll probably peak around the time of the album, and if sales are strong, she's got a good shot at number one. if mariah's sales keep dropping off like this, i don't think they'll ever beat out madonna's, so once airplay gets close it'll be a legitimately close race

any idea why moby's album was delayed a month and a half? it's out in the rest of the world, after all
  23. deep_honey posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
i was expecting moby to debut this week, but i just checked and it looks like the physical CD release has been delayed by a month+. the digital release only is out. can digital albums chart? (it's not exclusively on one site, either - it's all download sites)

that (and other reasons) are why AATW are c**p! i stick to ministry of sound / hed kandi so there's at least some level of quality control

is that how to estimate it? 3.5x the first day sales? i'll keep that in mind...
