exciting to see The Cardigans in the top 40! i honestly wasn't expecting them to show up at all on the charts since they never get any promo and their last two albums were complete flops. that said, it'll probably end up around 60 or something by sunday :(

#5 as in, on the physicals-only chart (does that exist still?) it was #5? or #5 as in that's what it reached when the physical came out (which was last week and is true)

considering that goldfrapp's new album is out, i could see a good number of people downloading just "a&e" this week, so it probably won't have too dramatic of a drop. 14k sales in one day is good - safe bet for at least (or near) 50,000 then, which is amazing!!!

it's far from a sure shot for number 1. download sales will be pretty weak considering the ridiculous sales of the album, so it'll be depending a lot on physicals, and that might not cut it

i'm really really hoping Goldfrapp get a number 1 with this album. it would be extremely well-deserved and nice climax to their career thus far after "supernature" was such a total smash.

i don't understand how they're being combined on downloads alone though. i realize that only one of the two double a-side tracks will be counted with the physical sales, but so far neither has a physical component - they're both just standalone download tracks. i don't think i've ever seen two songs have their downloads combined as a double a-side. how does this fit in with new download rules?

25 pounds (aka $50!!!!!!!) is FAR too expensive for a single album, regardless of the format. for that kind of price, i'd expect nothing short of a multi-disc, lavishly packaged boxed set retrospective.

what a strange list! the thing is, a lot of the most popular artists on music blogs don't appear on the hot 100 at all (radiohead, for example!!). and a lot of these are probably based on celebrity/news blog mentions also. do you have any more info on how this is compiled?

GOLDFRAPP, madonna, mariah (a bit), janet jackson, the feeling, cardigans best of, sophie ellis-bextor best of and probably a bunch more that aren't set in stone (robbie williams, for one)

for random tracks you wouldn't want to fork over a few pounds/dollars for, then downloads are perfect. for artists you really like, physicals aren't impossible to get, so that's not an issue really (yet). albums i would never legally download. if i'm going to pay (which i almost always do!) i'd rather just add on a few dollars to it to get the physical product, if that - i can usually find used music pretty easily in the US.

Cat Power will DEFINITELY not be releasing a new album in April. She has herself stated in interviews that, although "Sun" has been recorded, she will not be releasing it in the near future.

"Wow" is finally on the a lists of both stations! now hopefully it will be the huge hit 2 hearts never was

they're clearly just trying to regain hype and interest in physical formats in general to hopefully spice up the charts, but honestly at those prices i'd be surprised if USBs lasted the year

yeah this was pretty much her shot at creating a lasting music career. we'll see, i guess! and it's outrageous that airplay has been bumped up like that. it really should be mostly sales. radio has become so irrelevant these days - i can't remember when i last really listened to the radio even, and i buy more music than 95% of americans!

what are the rules for download-only singles in australia? i know they just allowed them to chart, but clearly they have strange restrictions a la the uk charts last year

so far it's gone 32-28-43-29. it peaked based off of just her x-factor performance, but now it's picking up again thanks to airplay. it should rocket up once the video comes out

great point. songs can earn their positions now rather than relying on front-loaded marketing campaigns for chart placings

excellent for Kylie Minogue and Goldfrapp. hope both are huge hits! and mark ronson's releasing "just" as the fourth single? NOT the best choice, "apply some pressure" is waaay more exciting
