  1. Here is the end of the thread, with the best selling singles in the fastest chart on Buzzjack. Lets`s do this week`s top physicals: 01 ne Black Eyed Peas 02 01 Dizzee Rascal & Armand Van Heldon 03 ne Little Boots 04 05 Tinchy Stryder & N-Dubz 05 04 Eminem 06 06 Lily Allen 07 02 Paolo Nutini 08 09 Daniel Merriweather 09 10 Lady GaGa 10 03 Jade Ewen 11 07 StarPilots 12 11 Prodigy 13 ne You Me At Six 14 12 Liverpool Collective 15 ne Flo Rida 16 14 Alesha Dixon 17 15 Calvin Harris 18 13 Madness 19 17 Ciara 20 16 Ironik Black Eyed Peas outweighing Dizzee on that one. Other Physical new entries in the top 30 come from Kevin Rudolf, & Paul Van Dyk. In between them are Marilyn Manson at 22 (down 14), La Roux at 23 (down 5), Pink at 24 (also down 5). Now, Dave`s been going on and on complaining about the change to Hit40uk (Independant Radio`s ghastly show). Of course he`s right by saying why don`t they knock the airplay into touch? Infact, if they did (based around iTunes) they would be much ahead (which is what they want), but Richard Park can`t get it right, for his love of the Capital $h!te playlist! Just for interests point, Dave got the day`s sweep of iTunes download top 20. So let`s have a look at that, before the full combined physical/download chart. iTunes Top 20 Downloads (Thurs-Fri) 01 Agnes 02 Dizzee & Armand 03 Black Eyed Peas 04 Daniel Merriweather 05 Veronicas 06 Soulja Boy 07 Tinchy Stryder & N-Dubz 08 Keri Hilson/Kanye West/Ne-Yo 09 La Roux 10 Lily Allen 11 Little Boots 12 Lady GaGa 13 Flo Rida 14 Eminem 15 Ironik 16 Prodigy 17 Calvin Harris 18 Ciara 19 Empire Of The Sun 20 Alesha Dixon Absolutely Dave, if Independant Radio stuck to iTunes Sunday top 40, they would be well ahead. What is wrong with this Mr Park? Here come`s the Combined Physical/Downloads... Don`t we just love those chavs! Quite frankly, NO! Let`s all collect our benefits, and see if we can find some brains! Note: These are not Official Charts. They are based around Chart Show tv`s, but brought up to date by Mr David Richard Taylor. I believe the Chart Show top 20 videos, features on Sky 365/Freeview 500 on Saturday & Sunday mornings.
  2. I will finish this off for Dave soon, because he had to rush off.
  3. Cheers old pal! Could be better though.
  4. And if we put those pre-orders into a combined top 20 sales/pre-order chart: 01 GaGa 02 Noisettes 03 Ar Rahman 04 Flo Rida 05 Beyonce 06 Metro Station 07 Taylor Swift 08 Depeche Mode 09 Akon 10 T.I. 11 Steve Angelo 12 La Roux 13 Lily Allen (Not Fair) 14 Lady Sovereign 15 Calvin Harris 16 Kelly Clarkson 17 Franz Ferdinand 18 KOL (Use Somebody) 19 Enrique & Ciara 20 Just Jack We`ve got Enemy at 22, Bat For Lashes 25, Fightstar at 26, Ercola 27, Kid British 30, Zarif 33, & Alcoholics Unanimous at 40. A combined pre-order Album chart for next week: 01 Now 72 02 Doves 03 GaGa 04 Elbow 05 KOL 06 Bat For Lashes 07 Flo Rida 08 Lily Allen 09 Annie Lennox 10 Neil Young With the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, in the top 15.
  5. Thanks Robbie! Probably a good thing other download sites are pushing up. It certainly improves the chart, and looking like 9 new entries in the top 50. It can`t be bad!
  6. Anytime. At least the boys didn`t fall as much as Comic Relief!
  7. Thank You Dave. I know he`s going to Aintree (that`s his secret out). No secrets in my house! By the way, thanks to all those people that sent me Christmas wishes (some 3 & a half months since). I haven`t signed in here, since last August. Ooh, and Dave: Hart To Hart was nicked from The Thin Man. Which was a 50s series. Even had a dog in it, not Freeway though. I suppose we`d better get into those remaining Singles and whatnot. Before that though. Can I tell everyone to put this link in their browsers? www.livehits.co.uk The stream provides a more accurate average of sales from iTunes, over a 24 hour period every 3 hours. How about the top Physical hits in Britain this week: 01 01 Right Round - Flo Rida 02 04 Dead & Gone - T.I. 03 02 Islands In The Stream - Jenkins/West/Jones/Gibb 04 03 Show Me Love - Steve Angello 05 ne Kingdom Of Rust - Doves 06 06 Just Can`t Get Enough - Saturdays 07 ne Tonight Today - Jack Penate 08 07 Headz Shoulderz Kneez & Toes - K.I.G. 09 09 My Life Would Suck Without You - Kelly Clarkson 10 08 Fallin` Down - Oasis 11 14 Don`t Upset The Rhythm - Noisettes 12 12 Love Story - Taylor Swift 13 13 In For The Kill - La Roux 14 18 Shake It - Metro Station 15 05 Love Etc - Pet Shop Boys 16 10 Can`t Get Over - September 17 11 Up All Night - Take That 18 15 Breathe Slow - Alesha Dixon 19 16 Beautiful - Akon 20 17 Farewell To The Fairground - White Lies Commiserations to Twisted Wheel. Who did actually manage a top 30 physical with We Are Us, and they probably are. I noticed reading back on all those fan-dabi-dozi posts by Dave, that he now usually does a Download Top 20. Well, I`m not because this week it`s exactly the same as the combined chart. How those downloads have taken over since I last posted at Buzzjack On to this Combined Physical & Download chart. Which is compiled on a sample of info from Chart Show tv, with added sales up to Friday at 5pm. Dave being on the edge, digs around every week to get this info, hot off the press. In other words THE MOST UP TO DATE CHART IN BRITAIN!!!!!!!! We will take a look at some info from the bottom 25 of the top 75 first, with a bunch of high flyers: 52 Bat For Lashes - Daniel 53 Be On You - Flo Rida 57 Run - Leona Lewis 58 Stuck With Each Other - Shontelle & Akon (again) 64 I`d Come For You - Nickelback 67 Low - Flo Rida (He won`t go away) 68 My Delirium - Ladyhawke 72 Beautiful Dirty Rich - Lady GaGa (again) 73 Paris Is Burning - Ladyhawke (not Paris Hilton is it) Blink 182 appear to about to re-enter the top 75, with some old song too. N-Dubz are at 51. So, let`s tackle the complete top 50: 50 39 CHIP DIDDY CHIP ~ CHIPMUNK 34) =46 49 48 UP ~ SATURDAYS 33) =34 48 43 REVELRY ~ KOL 32) =45 47 44 HUMAN ~ KILLERS 31) =44 46 ne IF U SEEK AMY ~ BRITNEY SPEARS - 45 ne PLEASE DON`T STOP THE RAIN ~ JAMES MORRISON - 44 33 WHATCHA THINK ABOUT THAT ~ PUSSYCAT DOLLS & MISSY ELLIOT 30) =41 43 29 CRACK A BOTTLE ~ EMINEM, DR DRE & 50 CENT - 42 38 GIVES YOU HELL ~ ALL AMERICAN REJECTS 29) =40 41 ne UNTOUCHABLES ~ GIRLS ALOUD - =37 40 37 IF THIS ISN`T LOVE ~ JENNIFER HUDSON - =33 39 ne SO HUMAN ~ LADY SOVEREIGN - 38 36 TAKE ME BACK ~ TINCHY STRYDER & TAIO CRUZ 28) =36 37 40 I LOVE COLLEGE ~ ASHER ROTH - =39 36 ne PLEASE DON`T LEAVE ME ~ PINK - =43 35 28 UP ALL NIGHT ~ TAKE THAT 27) =32 34 35 I`M YOURS ~ JASON MRAZ 26) 33 34 FAREWELL TO THE FAIRGROUND ~ WHITE LIES 25) =35 32 25 CAN`T GET OVER ~ SEPTEMBER 24) =31 31 26 T-SHIRT ~ SHONTELLE 23) =29 30 ne SUGAR ~ FLO RIDA - 29 31 DAY N`NITE ~ KID CUD & CROOKERS 22) =30 28 ne KINGDOM OF RUST ~ DOVES 21) =28 27 30 SINGLE LADIES (PUT A RING ON IT) ~ BEYONCE 20) =26 26 32 S** ON FIRE ~ KOL 19) =27 25 24 BREATHE SLOW ~ ALESHA DIXON 18) =24 24 21 NO YOU GIRLS ~ FRANZ FERDINAND - =22 23 23 BROKEN STRINGS ~ JAMES MORRISON & NELLY FURTADO 17) =21 22 ne TONIGHT TODAY ~ JACK PENATE 16) =25 21 18 OMEN ~ PRODIGY 15) =20 20 13 JUST CAN`T GET ENOUGH ~ SATURDAYS 14) =19 19 19 THE FEAR ~ LILY ALLEN 13) =18 18 17 HEADZ SHOULDERZ KNEEZ & TOEZ ~ K.I.G. 12) =16 17 ne EMBERS ~ JUST JACK - =23 16 20 TAKIN` BACK MY LOVE ~ ENRIQUE & CIARA - =17 15 15 USE SOMEBODY ~ KOL 11) =15 14 10 MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU ~ KELLY CLARKSON 10) =14 13 14 JUST DANCE ~ LADY GAGA & COLBY ADONIS 9) =13 12 16 NOT FAIR ~ LILY ALLEN - =12 11 11 IN FOR THE KILL ~ LA ROUX 8) =11 10 12 SHOW ME LOVE ~ STEVE ANGELLO 7) =10 09 07 DEAD & GONE ~ T.I. 6) =8 08 08 BEAUTIFUL ~ AKON 5) =9 07 05 LOVE STORY ~ TAYLOR SWIFT 4) =7 06 09 SHAKE IT ~ METRO STATION 3) =6 05 04 HALO ~ BEYONCE - =5 04 03 RIGHT ROUND ~ FLO RIDA 2) =4 03 06 JAI HO! ~ AR RAHMAN & PUSSYCAT DOLLS - =3 02 02 DON`T UPSET THE RHYTHM ~ NOISETTES 1) =2 01 01 POKERFACE ~ LADY GAGA - =1 ) Is the position without downloads on their own. Also in that respect Mia is 35, MGMT 36, Katy (Hot N` Cold) 37, Katy (Thinking Of You) 38, Pet Shop Boys 39, & Britney Spears has a Circus at 40..then it`s Comic Relief (who have the over all biggest faller this week), Beyonce, Take That, Royksopp, and Pink (Sober). = Is the position on Chart Show tv (Chart Show top 20 videos, Saturday 9-11am, Sky 365). The Lady does it again. I think many people are saying, how come GaGa is No. 1 because Noisettes have been No.1, on iTunes all week. That don`t mean a thing. Infact Noisettes are not No.1 anywhere else. So, they are closing in. The physical of it does nothing at No.11, and GaGa is released on the 13th April. Dave still waits for Shena..and waits and waits.

I must admit to never being a fan of ARE YOU BEING SERVED, or ALLO ALLO...Both "Sitcoms", written by Jimmy Perry and David Croft. The word "situation", seems to conjure up almost impossible "situations", with both of them. Notice that Grace Brothers never actually got that many customers...but had 3 staff in Menswear, and 2 in Womens! And JIVE BUNNY at 50...unfortunately it wasn`t like that. Then, we had too have a further 2 number ones, from Jive Bunny. BLACKBOX annoyed a few artists, with RIDE ON TIME but it was still the best selling single of 1989. CLIFF turned into KYLIE or was it JASON, with I JUST DON`T HAVE THE HEART and STOCK AITKEN AND WATERMAN. LIL` LOUIS got dodgy...do we remember the BIG LOUIS version? BIG FUN turned into MICK JACKSON, or the JACKSONS. MARTIKA stuck around the 5/6 spot a long time. LIZA MINNELLI is JUDY GARLAND`s sibbling, here she was with a bit of help from those PET SHOP BOYS. Housey, dancey stuff from STARLIGHT, BEATMASTERS, ADEVA...BEATMASTERS had a bit of help from BETTY BOO (her first chart outing). LISA STANSFIELD got stuck. KYLIE fell. QUEEN gave us THE INVISIBLE MAN...Did that sporn BBC2 to repeat DAVID MCCALLUM`s 1975 Best "INVISIBLE MAN" series? Maybe! ALYSON WILLIAMS took a long time climbing were her single. TEARS FOR FEARS were back. LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME, sprung in for BON JOVI. REDHEAD KINGPIN teamed up with the FBI...No not that one! DONNA SUMMER also did more STOCK AITKEN AND WATERMAN. EURYTHMICS, ANNIE and DAVE gave a REVIVAL. DEBBIE GIBSON was just about finished! SYDNEY YOUNGBLOOD got started. LIGHTNING SEEDS got lots of airplay, but couldn`t make the top 10. More S.A.W. from SONIA. DAMIAN gave us the ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW in song. HAZEL DEAN was still trying (she started in 1976). PAULA ABDUL was doing ok, and BLACK LACE were definately not "The MUSIC MAN"!! A dodgy copy of this used to pop up, on Sky tv`s Music channels package...where it used to skip, at the end. ELTON JOHN`s HEALING HANDS was more popular in 1990, when it was coupled with SACRIFICE as a double A sided single number 1. The CHIMES also became more popular in 1990, when they covered U2`s I STILL HAVEN`T FOUND WHAT I`M LOOKING FOR. (The 1989 charts were supplied by MRIB for Independant Radio) Coming up Dave will complete with the top singles, and also top physical singles this week, so hang around....

Bank Holiday Monday, across England and Wales. While Scotland go back to school, for Autumn term 2008. I`ve been checking out the sales/download sites, with a little help, from the boys at HMV (Peter Jay and John McManus). Thanks to them. Another pretty slow chart, then. Last week in our singles preview, we got 9 in the top 10, 17 in the 20, 29 in the 30, and 36 in the 40. Later movers like The Automatic, Metallica, and J. Majik messed us up! Not a good week, then! Acually, we do better in 2008. Also in 1992, we had the number one wrong for 2 weeks running. LUTHER AND JANET stalled at 2 officially. Quite a memorable summer, with the Barcelona Olympics. That was why FREDDIE AND MONSERRAT were back in the charts, and re-issued from 1987. UNDERCOVER covered BAKER STREET (the 1978 classic Gerry Rafferty track). BILLY RAY CYRUS kept going with his "Achy Breaky Heart", and come Christmas, we had to deal with a minor other version, with the Chipmunks. FELIX provided the housey/trance anthem of the Summer, or was that Snap? ANNIE LENNOX was back in the top ten. JIMMY NAIL was off a number one, 2UNLIMITED were are magic other trancey mates! BETTY BOO was getting rather boring, with her rappy styles, and nicking snatches of other peoples records. Shock, horror KYLIE missed the top ten. TAKE THAT found heaven, and were at their best, at that stage. LIONEL RICHIE took a long time climbing the chart with "MY DESTINY", and was still there in early November! AMIGO PARA SEMPRE meant "FRIEND FOR LIFE", and SARAH AND JOSE also took a long time climbing the chart. WAS (NOT WAS) originally recorded "SHAKE YOUR HEAD" in 1983, but in the `92 version, they were joined by KIM BASINGER. I do not recall PAUL WELLER`s "UH HUH OH YEAH". Mind you neither do I recall the BANANARAMA track. We had the re-entry of ABBA, and DANCING QUEEN because of ABBA GOLD, the first time. ROY ORBISON, gave us a re-made version of his 1961 hit, with K.D. LANG from 1988. K.D. stands for KATHERINE DAWN. BILLY JOEL sang Elvis, and also "DON`T BE CRUEL", from ELVIS PRESLEY himself returned to the top 75. JUNIOR GISCOMBE (of MAMA USED TO SAY fame), cut a version of the 1974 hit, by DIONNE WARWICKE/DETROIT SPINNERS...when Dionne added an "E", to her name, and it did not mean "Ecstacy", like THE SHAMEN record, of "EBENEEZER GOODE"...Naaughty, naughty, very naughty!! This was also the week "END OF THE ROAD", and BOYS II MEN hit the chart, and finally made number one, at the end of October (a week, when SIMON BATES, sat in for BRUNO BROOKES, on the Radio 1 Top 40). Here were the top 10 albums, this week in 1992.. 01 NE GREATEST HITS - KYLIE MINOGUE 02 NE LAUGHING ON JUDGEMENT - THUNDER 03 01 BEST 1 - SMITHS 04 02 DANGEROUS - MICHAEL JACKSON 05 NE TAKE THAT AND PARTY - TAKE THAT 06 03 NOW 22 - VARIOUS 07 10 DIVA - ANNIE LENNOX 08 04 GREATEST HITS - NEIL DIAMOND 09 06 BACK TO FRONT - LIONEL RICHIE 10 12 SOME GAVE ALL - BILLY RAY CYRUS We were raving, a bit in 1992 because the other VA Compilations, in the top 20 came via RAVE ALERT (down from 11 to 16), and a new entry at 12 for RAVE GENERATOR II. That section must be dedicated to Mart!n, for we ask the question...Will Kylie ever top the Album Chart, let alone the Singles Chart again?

(The top albums, are compiled by stores and download sites, up to and including Wednesday) The top 20 Artist albums, can be seen on Chart Show TV, on Sunday at 2.30pm. Now we go back to August 1968. There is a reason for this. This week in 1968, the BBC Chart (featured on Radio 1, and Top Of The Pops) had a three-way tie at number one. With Herb Alpert/Bee Gees/Beach Boys. In those days the BBC chart was an average chart, based on findings in Melody Maker/NME/Record Mirror. There was no Official Chart then (honest). So, I thought if we take in the findings from the EMI charts, that week, we can find out what actually was the top selling single that week. So, first let`s look at the albums in 1968... w/k beginning 28th Aug 1968 01 01 BOOKENDS - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL 02 02 DELILAH - TOM JONES 03 04 GREATEST HITS - HOLLIES 04 06 WHEELS ON FIRE - CREAM 05 04 A MAN WITHOUT LOVE - ENGLEBERT HUMPERDINCK 06 07 IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD - MOODY BLUES 07 08 BARE WIRES - JOHN MAYALL 08 09 SOUND OF MUSIC - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK 09 05 CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN - ARTHUR BROWN 10 10 JUNGLE BOOK - ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK Only a top 10 album chart in 1968. SIMON AND GARFUNKEL reigning supreme. TOM JONES vs ENGLEBERT HUMPERDINCK...On this occasion TOM JONES won, with a charttopping LP. The CREAM album was available both as a single LP, and a double LP. The double was more popular, featuring the many talents of ERIC CLAPTON, and GINGER BAKER etc. The MOODY BLUES featured the single "VOICES IN THE SKY", and kept JUSTIN HAYWARD/JOHN LODGE and Co, going. JOHN MAYALL was doing great...we all remember his Blues Breakers, don`t we? ARTHUR BROWN set himself on fire, on TOP OF THE POPS, with the single, but only got one single hit. Both the SOUND OF MUSIC, and JUNGLE BOOK kept the Soundtracks busy. "The hills were alive, with the Bare Necessities"!! Album bubbler of the week was "BOOGIE WITH CANNED HEAT", and provided 2 hit singles for the group, as well as the top 10 album, itself. Not many followed the album chart in `68, least of all...the BBC! Here are EMI`s top 30 singles for August 1968... 01 03 THIS GUY`S IN LOVE WITH YOU - HERB ALPERT 02 05 DO IT AGAIN - BEACH BOYS 03 08 I`VE GOTTA GET A MESSAGE TO YOU - BEE GEES 04 04 HELP YOURSELF - TOM JONES 05 01 MONY MONY - TOMMY JAMES AND THE SHONDELLS 06 02 FIRE - CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN 07 16 I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER - ARETHA FRANKLIN 08 12 HIGH IN THE SKY - AMEN CORNER 09 06 SUNSHINE GIRL - HERMAN`S HERMITS 10 11 DANCE TO THE MUSIC - SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE 11 18 HOLD ME TIGHT - JOHNNY NASH 12 07 I CLOSE MY EYES AND COUNT TO TEN - DUSTY SPRINGFIELD 13 13 KEEP ON - BRUCE CHANNEL 14 17 ON THE ROAD AGAIN - CANNED HEAT 15 09 I PRETEND - DES O` CONNER 16 10 MRS ROBINSON - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL 17 14 DAYS - KINKS 18 26 DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME - MAMA CASS 19 15 LAST NIGHT IN SOHO - DAVE DEE DOZY BEAKY MICK AND TICH 20 22 HARD TO HANDLE - OTIS REDDING 21 24 YOUR TIME HASN`T COME YET BABY - ELVIS PRESLEY 22 28 LADY WILLPOWER - UNION GAP 23 NE JESAMINE - CASUALS 24 19 THE UNIVERSAL - SMALL FACES 25 27 DREAM A LITTLE DREAM OF ME - ANITA HARRIS 26 20 MACARTHUR PARK - RICHARD HARRIS 27 NE AMERICA - THE NICE 28 30 VOICES IN THE SKY - MOODY BLUES 29 23 SON OF HICKORY HOLLER`S TRAMP - O.C. SMITH 30 NE ELEANOR RIGBY - RAY CHARLES That solve`s the confusion, I think...BBC had the 3 way tie, Melody Maker had Herb Alpert, at the top, as did EMI, and NME had Tom Jones, at the top. So, it must have been Herb Alpert, not the Beach Boys or Tom Jones. Extraordinarily on the BBC Top 30, they had the BEE GEES in the 3 way tie, but they were not number one, on any chart that week! Big falls for TOMMY JAMES, and ARTHUR BROWN...Arthur did not top the EMI top 30, nor the BBC Chart. A big star like "the Queen of Soul" (ARETHA FRANKLIN) never ever got a top 3 hit in the UK. AMEN CORNER got their 2nd top 10 hit, with the lead of ANDY FAIRWEATHER-LOW, who of course, got the very first Official number one, in Feb 1969. HERMAN`S HERMITS with the lead of PETER NOONE was still going 4 years after their first hit. PETER NOONE himself also starred in CORONATION STREET. SLY AND THE FAMILY STONE had their only top ten single. JOHNNY NASH had his first. DUSTY SPRINGFIELD had one more left. BRUCE CHANNEL gave us a touch of dance, 6 years after his last hit. DES O` CONNER was not number one, on the EMI, BBC, MELODY MAKER, or NME CHART. Thank God!! SIMON AND GARFUNKEL gave us the GRADUATE, and that brought us MRS ROBINSON. THE KINKS gave us the original of "DAYS" (KIRSTY MACOLL circa 1989). MAMA CASS vs ANITA HARRIS...I would say that our own Anita, gave us the best version, but the general public don`t agree, although MAMA CASS did not get into the top 10. DAVE DEE and CO, had their last top 10 hit, and best! OTIS REDDING was tragedically killed in Dec 1967 in a plane crash, but here he was still doing great with his songs. ELVIS and YOUR TIME HASN`T COME YET BABY was the story of a young girl, growing up...it never gets played today. The SMALL FACES and THE UNIVERSAL isn`t heard much either. The CASUALS struck with a first, but found it hard to follow up, when they did "TOY". THE NICE gave us the classic "AMERICA". RICHARD HARRIS the actor...proved he could sing, and one of the longest records recorded "MACARTHUR PARK", was born. O.C. SMITH always struggled with hits. His "LITTLE GREEN APPLES", proved greater sucess for ROGER MILLER (who took it to 21, on the EMI top 30). THE SON OF HICKORY HOLLER`S TRAMP was O.C`s only top 20 hit, and he had to wait until 1977, before he troubled the charts again with "TOGETHER". RAY CHARLES sang the BEATLES "ELEANOR RIGBY", and got no higher than 30. (The hits of 1968, were compiled by sales/average figures by EMI 1968). Hang on for Dave`s finish, with the latest top 50 selling singles....

Would that be similar to the Double A, of Leona Lewis early on in the year?

COLBIE CAILLAT gets the top 60, with FLO RIDA - IN THE AYER in the 50. DUFFY - STEPPING STONE in the top 70, with FRATELLIS, and The AUTOMATIC gettting in the top 60. Dave told us that Biffy Clyro would do well, when he compiled the Fresh Hits Chart, at the beginning of August. As he did with Bloc Party (although I think he forgot to include the pre-orders, of that one, and also Solange last Monday. So, next Monday it will be Eric Prydz, Dave already has that up the top 20, on the Fresh Hits Chart. Last week we had 9 in the top 10, 18 in the 20, and 26 in the top 30...on the albums front. On the singles we had 8 in the top 10, 18 in the 20, 26 in the 30, 36 in the 40, and 47 in the top 50. Pretty good. The downloads of Keane, and the Script knock us out a tad, but it was ok. Back in August 1989, Radio Luxembourg and Shaun Tilley broadcasted Next Week`s Top 20, on Monday at 8pm. It look like this... 01 01 SWING THE MOOD - JIVE BUNNY 02 04 POISON - ALICE COOPER 03 10 RIDE ON TIME - BLACK BOX 04 NE I JUST DON`T HAVE THE HEART - CLIFF RICHARD 05 05 TOY SOLDIERS - MARTIKA 06 06 FRENCH KISS - LIL` LOUIS 07 11 HEY DJ I CAN`T DANCE TO THAT MUSIC YOU`RE PLAYING - BEATMASTERS/BETTY BOO 08 02 LOSING MY MIND - LIZA MINELLI 09 NE THE INVISIBLE MAN - QUEEN 10 03 BLAME IT ON THE BOOGIE - BIG FUN 11 16 THIS IS THE RIGHT TIME - LISA STANSFIELD 12 08 I WOULDN`T CHANGE A THING - KYLIE MINOGUE 13 07 YOU`RE HISTORY - SHAKESPEARS SISTER 14 NE WARNING - ADEVA 15 NE NUMERO UNO - STARLIGHT 16 17 KISSES ON THE WIND - NENEH CHERRY 17 09 DO THE RIGHT THING - REDHEAD KINGPIN 18 NE I NEED YOUR LOVIN` - ALISON WILLIAMS 19 NE LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME - BON JOVI 20 NE FRIENDS - JODY WATLEY In 1989, Radio Luxembourg got 18 in the top 20..They missed with JODY WATLEY..she stalled at 21 on Radio 1. They were a bit behind at Luxembourg, and missed TEARS FOR FEARS - SOWING THE SEEDS OF LOVE..which smashed the top ten, at 9 on Radio 1. How will we compare to Sunday`s Charts, though? ROXY MUSIC did eventually knock the soundtrack off the top. DEEP PURPLE`s album spark a rerelease of their singles. QUEEN also took the title track of "The Game", into the singles, that of course was "PLAY THE GAME". GEORGE BENSON was doing wonderful...he originally called himself GEORGE "BAD" BENSON. The ROLLING STONES had their title track from the album in the singles chart too. BOB MARLEY was happily still alive in 1980, and was still selling, and sounding great. MICHAEL JACKSON`s "OFF THE WALL" hung around forever. JOAN ARMATRADING always did better with albums, than singles. DEXY`S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS weere on their first year of chart success. PAUL MCCARTNEY was going down, along with the BEAT (who were drying up quickly). JOY DIVISION (later New Order) were in. DIANA ROSS suddenly surprised everyone, and also returned to the singles chart, selling big. The other VA Comps in the top 30 were MAGIC REGGAE, and HOT WAX (these were both tv advertised K-TEL albums). The singles in Aug 1980... w/k ending 9th Aug 01 03 UPSIDE DOWN - DIANA ROSS 02 17 WINNER TAKES IT ALL - ABBA 03 01 USE IT UP AND WEAR IT OUT - ODYSSEY 04 02 MORE THAN I CAN SAY - LEO SAYER 05 05 BABOOSHKA - KATE BUSH 06 06 COULD YOU BE LOVED - BOB MARLEY 07 20 9 - 5 - SHEENA EASTON 08 21 OOPS UP SIDE YOUR HEAD - GAP BAND 09 08 THERE THERE MY DEAR - DEXY`S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS 10 04 XANADU - OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN/ELO 11 22 GIVE ME THE NIGHT - GEORGE BENSON 12 16 WEDNESDAY WEEK - UNDERTONES 13 33 OH YEAH (ON THE RADIO) - ROXY MUSIC 14 15 LIP UP FATTY - BAD MANNERS 15 07 JUMP TO THE BEAT - STACY LATTISAW 16 09 CUPID-I`VE LOVED YOU FOR A LONG TIME - DETROIT SPINNERS 17 24 FUNKIN` FOR JAMAICA - TOM BROWNE 18 11 LET`S HANG ON - DARTS 19 18 MARIANA - GIBSON BROTHERS 20 10 EMOTIONAL RESCUE - ROLLING STONES 21 14 A LOVERS HOLIDAY/GLOW OF LOVE - CHANGE 22 23 ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH OF WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY - HOT CHOCOLATE 23 12 LOVE WILL TEAR US APART - JOY DIVISION 24 40 PRIVATE LIFE - GRACE JONES 25 30 DOES SHE HAVE A FRIEND - GENE CHANDLER 26 NE ALL OVER THE WORLD - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 27 29 BURNIN` HOT - JERMAINE JACKSON 28 13 MY WAY OF THINKING - UB40 29 19 THEME FROM SPACE INVADERS - YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA 30 NE TOM HARK - PIRANHAS 31 26 ME MYSELF I - JOAN ARMATRADING 32 NE FEELS LIKE I`M IN LOVE - KELLY MARIE 33 32 SANCTUARY - NEW MUSIK 34 38 SLEEPWALK - ULTRAVOX 35 28 NEON KNIGHTS - BLACK SABBATH 36 39 BURNING CAR - JOHN FOXX 37 27 MY GIRL - WHISPERS 38 NE GIRLFRIEND - MICHAEL JACKSON 39 41 MY GUY-MY GIRL - AMI STEWART/JOHNNY BRISTOL 40 25 WATERFALLS - PAUL MCCARTNEY Well, DIANA ROSS did not manage to get enough Saturday sales, to make a BBC number one, but she had a midweek one, until ABBA surpassed it. Disco from ODYSSEY off of the top spot...LEO SAYER just missed getting a 2nd number one. KATE BUSH sung a Russian related song (well kind of). SHEENA EASTON finally made the chart after appearing on the BIG TIME in 1979, with ESTHER RANTZEN (The BIG TIME, was a BBC show where Esther found "talent", and pusehed it and gave it a helping hand). The GAP BAND rowed across the dance floor...BRYAN FERRY came in (with his suit) with ROXY MUSIC. The UNDERTONES (with FEARGAL SHARKEY) were giving Ireland a hand in the charts. BAD MANNERS (and BUSTA BLOODVESSEL, real name DOUGLAS TRENDLE) was doing the best for fat people!! More disco, for STACY LATTISAW, and TOM BROWNE. DARTS covered the FOUR SEASONS. DETROIT SPINNERS covered SAM COOKE. HOT CHOCOLATE were not getting enough! CHANGE featured the soul talents of the late LUTHER VANDROSS. GRACE JONES hit RUSSELL HARTY on tv, and scored a record hit. The PIRANHAS covered a 1958 tune by ELIAS AND HIS ZIG ZAG JIVE FLUTES...FEELS LIKE I`M IN LOVE was actually written by RAY DORSET (of MUNGO JERRY fame), with ELVIS PRESLEY in mind..if you get KELLY MARIE`s 45rpm single, and slow it down, it could indeed be Elvis (really)!! GENE CHANDLER was getting into the disco spirit, following his brief career in Britain in the 60s. NEW MUSIK were just great, but the singles dried up quickly. JOHN FOXX was the previous lead with ULTRAVOX, and MIDGE URE was not far behind with said group. The WHISPERS, and AMI STEWART/JOHNNY BRISTOL had versions of the old TEMPTATIONS/OTIS REDDING hit "MY GIRL". The MANHATTENS and "SHINING STAR", unfortunately slipped on this chart from 36 to 41. (The vintage charts were compiled by Record Business Magazine, for Independant Radio 1980). Look out for Dave, who will complete the thread with the complete singles top 50...Where will Katy Perry be??? Find out soon....

The beginning of another week. With thanks to John McManus, and Peter Jay here is the Monday preview, as to what may happen in next Sunday`s (exicting or not) countdown. We took info, and pre-order info of this week`s new releases, from HMV, WOOLWORTHS, ASDA, ZAVVI, SAINSBURY, TESCO and all the download sites, and averaged the lot out, and came up with this... The top 40 singles preview... 01 02 ALL SUMMER LONG - KID ROCK (Just beating Dizzee, after being a-top HMV`s Download Chart, all last week, even before iTunes)! 02 01 DANCE WIV ME - DIZZEE RASCAL 03 NE MAN WHO CAN`T BE MOVED - THE SCRIPT 04 04 NO AIR - JORDIN SPARKS 05 06 CLOSER - NE-YO 06 03 SHUT UP AND LET ME GO - TING TINGS 07 NE IF THIS IS LOVE - SATURDAYS 08 05 ALL I EVER NEEDED - BASSHUNTER 09 11 SWEET ABOUT ME - GABRIELLA CILMI 10 09 STAY WTH ME - IRONIK 11 20 BLACK AND GOLD - SAM SPARRO 12 07 GIVE IT 2 ME - MADONNA 13 19 5 YEARS TIME - NOAH AND THE WHALE 14 12 TAKE A BOW - RIHANNA 15 16 WARWICK AVENUE - DUFFY 16 18 THAT`S NOT MY NAME - TING TINGS 17 10 FOREVER - CHRIS BROWN 18 15 VIVA LA VIDA - COLDPLAY 19 13 WE MADE IT - BUSTA RHYMES 20 14 I LIKE YOU SO MUCH BETTER - IDA MARIA 21 41 DISCO LIGHTS - DARREN STYLES 22 23 HOMETOWN GLORY - ADELE 23 21 LOVE SONG - SARA BAREILLES 24 29 AMERICAN BOY - ESTELLE/KANYE WEST 25 17 LOW - FLO RIDA 26 24 HEARTBREAKER - WILL I. The PIGEON DETECTIVES, and PENDULUM sneak into the top 50, too. LLOYD is in at 52, BWO fight for life at 58, KYLIE, and DAN LE SAC fight for the top 75. Here is the album combined top 30 preview... 01 01 NOW 70 - VARIOUS 02 02 MAMMA MIA - OST 03 04 VIVA LA VIDA - COLDPLAY 04 05 GOLD - ABBA 05 NE ROCK N` ROLL JESUS - KID ROCK 06 03 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 07 07 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 08 10 WE STARTED NOTHING - TING TINGS 09 06 MELODY - SHARLEEN SPITERI 10 12 ULTIMATE STREET DANCE - VARIOUS 11 NE MASSIVE WEEKEND - VARIOUS 12 NE FORTRESS ROUND MY HEART - IDA MARIA 13 NE GARAGE CLASSICS VOL. 2 - VARIOUS 14 14 EXCLUSIVE - CHRIS BROWN 15 13 MASSIVE REGGAE - VARIOUS 16 NE 100 HITS: R + B CLASSICS - VARIOUS 17 11 PUT YOUR HANDS UP - VARIOUS 18 15 VERY BEST OF - BACHELORS 19 NE ULTIMATE HOLIDAY PARTY - VARIOUS 20 NE ALONG CAME A SPIDER - ALICE COOPER 21 25 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 22 08 CLUBLAND 13 - VARIOUS 23 16 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK 24 24 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 25 22 PIANO MAN - BILLY JOEL 26 18 MY SONGS - VARIOUS 27 27 SUNRISE TO SUNSET - VARIOUS 28 20 R + B THE LOVE COLLECTION - VARIOUS 29 NE SOULFLY - CONQUER 30 23 SKY DIVIN` - DARREN STYLES Outside this top 30, we found JUSTIN FLETCHER - SING SOMETHING SPECIAL...Back up for the FEELING, and PENDULUM...MELEE - DEVILS AND ANGELS (all in the top 40). Further down other entries for other VA Comps...100 HITS CLUB CLASSICS, 100 HITS DANCE ANTHEMS, 100 HITS ROCK N` ROLL, and 100 HITS KIDS, as well as HED KANDI BEACH HOUSE...NINE INCH NAILS hit the 50, and GAVIN DE GRAW doesn`t (he hits the top 100). Last week, we got 8 in the 10, 18 in the 20, and 28 in the top 30 (for the albums). In the singles we had 8 in the 10, 18 in the 20, 29 in the 30, and 36 in the top 40 (the re-entries, and the Script appearing quickly, surprised us)...But it has been months, since we got the number one single wrong. We said McFly wouldn`t do it, and today even Kid Rock, has the top selling physical too. The only contest, is The Saturdays (who entered a physical chart today at 6). The Script, do not look good on physicals today, as they miss a physical top 10. How did Radio Luxembourg do, in 1975?... 01 05 IF YOU THINK YOU KNOW HOW TO LOVE ME - SMOKEY 02 01 GIVE A LITTLE LOVE - BAY CITY ROLLERS 03 04 SEALED WITH A KISS - BRYAN HYLAND 04 02 BARBADOS - TYPICALLY TROPICAL 05 08 JIVE TALKIN` - BEE GEES 06 09 IT`S IN HIS KISS - LINDA LEWIS 07 18 I CAN`T GIVE YOU ANYTHING BUT MY LOVE - STYLISTICS 08 10 ACTION - THE SWEET 09 07 TEARS ON MY PILLOW - JOHNNY NASH 10 22 DELILAH - SENSATIONAL ALEX HARVEY BAND 11 03 ROLLIN` STONE - DAVID ESSEX 12 12 I WRITE THE SONGS - DAVID CASSIDY 13 06 MISTY - RAY STEVENS 14 23 HIGHWIRE - LINDA CARR AND THE LOVE SQUAD 15 17 NEW YORK CITY - T.REX 16 21 BLANKET ON THE GROUND - BILLY JO SPEARS 17 20 SHERRY - ADRIAN BAKER 18 13 HAVE YOU SEEN HER - CHILTES 19 16 THE HUSTLE/GET DANCIN` - VAN MCCOY 20 NE DOLLY MY LOVE - MOMENTS 21 26 7-6-5-4-3-2-1 BLOW YOUR WHISTLE - RIMSHOTS 22 11 D.I.V.O.R.C.E. - TAMMY WYNETTE 23 27 IT`S BEEN SO LONG - GEORGE MCCRAE 24 28 LOVE ME BABY - SUSAN CADOGAN 25 NE GET IN THE SWING - SPARKS 26 30 EL BIMBO - BIMBO JET 27 29 I DO I DO I DO ID I DO/ROCK ME - ABBA 28 15 FOOT STOMPIN` MUSIC - HAMILTON BOHANNON 29 NE FAME - DAVID BOWIE 30 NE LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER - CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE Radio Luxembourg had 9 in the 10, in 1975 (but did not include banned records, least of all JUDGE DREAD`s rendition of "COME OUTSIDE"...including lines such as "I don`t fancy you now, s*d off! You`re not even a real woman, you`re one of them fellas dressed up!" Dodgy, but funny stuff :) Luxembourg had 18 in the 20, and 27 in the 30. Now, I would say the the BAY CITY ROLLERS "GIVE A LITTLE LOVE", is the best number one, of the 70s, and never ages. SMOKIE spelt thier name S-M-O-K-E-Y for their early hits. LINDA LEWIS was a bit of a stage musical performer (unfortunately, not the best singer in the world). Here she gave her rendition of "THE SHOOP SHOOP SONG". BRYAN HYLAND returned to the top 10, after 13 years. DAVID CASSIDY wrote the songs, not this one though!! It was written by Bruce Johnston (formerly of the Beach Boys). ALEX HARVEY re-did "DELILAH", as a bit of a send up (another sadily missed showman). ADRIAN BAKER was a bit of a session singer, who formerly sung with ADRIAN GURVITZ (of CLASSIC fame, the 1982 top 10 hit). In the 70s, BAKER and GURVITZ were the BAKER/GURVITZ ARMY. Adrian, was also the voice on the 1981 singles, by GIDEA PARK. JOHHNY NASH did a re-take on "TEARS ON MY PILLOW" (people would say, it wasn`t the same song that Kylie recorded years later, but chiefly it was). RAY STEVENS updated an old JOHNNY MATHIS hit (an ERROL GARNER song from 1958). TAMMY WYNETTE re-released "D.I.V.O.R.C.E", from 1968 (following up the re-issued 1969 hit "STAND BY YOUR MAN". It was the best in soul/dance for the RIMSHOTS, LINDA CARR, and HAMILTON BOHANNON...HAMILTON following up, his other hit "DISCO STOMP" (Unfortunately the 2nd, sounded just like the first). ABBA missed the BBC Top 30, with "I DO I DO I DO I DO I DO". Although some stations, played the "B" side "ROCK ME" (which was also released in 1977, as BRENDON`s follow up, to "GIMME SOME". In all, for me 1975 is one of my favourite years...very varied tastes, of music reflected in the chart...ahh, I remember it well!
  19. Friday evening, and another set of the very latest (and vintage) charts. That prevented NEIL DIAMOND from a top album (of course in the charts today). Down for LIONEL RICHIE, back up for the best selling "STARS", for SIMPLY RED. MARIAH CAREY had her unplugged album, that was actually an E.P....PREFAB SPROUT spent much of 1985, on the cover of NME. Then finally broke into the top 10, in 1988...then 92 brought the Greatest Hits collection "LIFE OF SURPRISES". ALEXANDER O, NEIL`s album was also a Greatest Hits selection...ELTON JOHN had been to the top with "THE ONE", now going down. SONIC YOUTH smashed in, and had a number of chart singles too (but not enormous hits). The ORB disappeared sharply. HEARTBEAT was a selection of songs from the Yorkshire tv series (the only new recording was NICK BERRY`s title old hit). NIRVANA (and the late KURT) were going back up, along with MICHAEL JACKSON. SNAP did knock him off, next week (and did take the biggest seller of the year). Kids tv, was covered in "Rave" style by both Smart"e"s, and Urban Hype. MADONNA could not get her "playground", to the top...WAS (NOT WAS) featured KIM BASINGER...THE SHAMEN entered the top 10...ROY ORBISON`s "I DROVE ALL NIGHT", took him to the top 10...3 years after CYNDI LAUPER. PRINCE`s "SEXY MOTHER F***ER" had to be amended to "SEXY MF"...ERASURE descended with their ABBA covers E.P...Suddenly country/rock appeared via BILLY RAY CYRUS (we all remember the CHIPMUNKS version). MARIAH covered MICHAEL...SOPHIE B. HAWKINS was well played, but missed the top 10...DINA CARROLL first appeared in 1991, with the outfit QUARTZ, when she covered CAROLE KING`s "IT`S TOO LATE"...Independant Radio pushed BRYAN ADAMS, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, GENESIS, INXS and CURTIS STIGERS (overplaying them, but the singles of July 92, were not that big for them. A well played song by LYNSEY BUCKINGHAM entitled "COUNTDOWN" missed the chart totally. Meanwhile, JON SECADA, and RICHARD MARX were played a lot, and did much better. Radio 2, prefered DIANA ROSS, SIMPLY RED, and JOE COCKER (Joe covering a RAY CHARLES number). ROXETTE were struggling by now, and AZTEC CAMERA were practically finished, in the way of chart hits. The 1992 Summer olympics, gave us a re-hashed FREDDIE MERCURY/MONSERRAT CABAILLET hit "BARCELONA". (The vintage charts were compiled by MRIB-MEDIA RESEARCH INFORMATION BUREAU for Independant Radio, and the Network Chart 1992). Hang on for Dave`s big singles finish, and the top 50...coming soon

I know! Only 3 new entries. Don`t you just get fed up with these non moving charts? ;) I`m awaiting to see Dave, put our student broadcast chart up here. You will find that much more exciting. Longrunners, tend to sink much quicker on that.

The weekly preview, as to what might happen next Sunday, is here! We have been round the shops, and download sites. With thanks, as ever to Peter Jay and John Mcmanus for their help at HMV. In 2 words, not much! MELEE - BUILT TO LAST is in a top 60. Last week, in the singles top 40 preview...we had 9 in the top 10, 19 in the 20, 29 in the 30, and 37 in the 40. PRIMAL SCREAM fell out by Sunday, so it would`ve been 38! We did tell you though, that McFly would not be number one. This was forecasted, as McFly usually disappear rapidly...and with bands/singers that are reknown for doing that, we take it into account, when compiling the preview. In the albums, last week...we previewed a total of 8 in the top 10, 18 in the 20, and 28 in the 30. I do believe my old buddy/lodger Dave, is planning on launching our student broadcast chart on Buzzjack, in the near future. Which I actually present on a late Sunday night. Various rules on that, forecast new hits by dropping singles that continue to slide down for 2 weeks plus. So, you wouldn`t be annoyed with "Rockstar", or any other overplayed songs! That`s something to look out for, besides these charts. Let`s have a quick selection of 3 hot tips, for future release, on pre-orders... IF THIS IS LOVE - THE SATURDAYS released 28th July BEGGIN` - MADCON released 4th Aug HOW COME LORETTA - THE RYES released 11th Aug Points on those...well The Saturdays have quite a big pre-order, and look like at least a top 20 hit. Madcon have a re-make of a Timebox uk hit, from 1968 (that was a hit for the Four Seasons, elsewhere). Another version hit the charts, just last year. The Ryes, are all over music tv, and look another future top 40 hit. Finish off with a look back, to salute the Radio Luxembourg "Next Week`s Top 30 singles", in 1981... 01 07 CHANT NO`1 (I DON`T NEED THIS PRESSURE ON) - SPANDAU BALLET 02 01 LAY ALL YOUR LOVE ON ME - ABBA 03 NE HAPPY BIRTHDAY - STEVIE WONDER 04 02 STARS ON 45 (THE ABBA MEDLEY) - STARSOUND 05 03 GHOST TOWN - SPECIALS 06 NE GREEN DOOR - SHAKIN` STEVENS 07 08 SAT IN YOUR LAP - KATE BUSH 08 15 WALK RIGHT OUT - JACKSONS 09 16 SHOW ME - DEXY`S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS 10 04 MOTORHEAD - MOTORHEAD 11 10 FOR YOUR EYES ONLY - SHEENA EASTON 12 09 BODY TALK - IMAGINATION 13 06 CAN CAN - BAD MANNERS 14 05 WORDY RAPPINGHOOD - TOM TOM CLUB 15 21 NEVER SURRENDER - SAXON 16 14 BEACH BOY GOLD - GIDEA PARK 17 NE BACK TO THE 60s - TIGHT FIT 18 NE HOOKED ON CLASSICS - ROYAL PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA 19 NE DANCING THE NIGHT AWAY - VOGGUE 20 NE GIRLS ON FILM - DURAN DURAN 21 20 VISAGE - VISAGE 22 26 I`M IN LOVE - EVELYN KING 23 NE SHE`S A BAD MAMA JAMA - CARL CARLTON 24 18 YOU MIGHT NEED SOMEBODY - RANDY CRAWFORD 25 17 DANCING ON THE FLOOR - THIRD WORLD 26 30 JINGO - CANDIDO 27 19 NO WOMAN NO CRY - BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS 28 NE TEMPTED - SQUEEZE 29 NE COMPUTER LOVE - KRAFTWERK 30 NE ON THE BEAT - THE B B AND Q BAND Radio Luxembourg had just 6 in the top 10, 16 in the 20, and 24 in the 30 on 21st July 1981 (for the week, of 1st Aug). They missed with VOGGUE, CARL CARLTON, CANDIDO, SQUEEZE, KRAFTWERK, and the B B AND Q BAND. For some reason, they forgot to include DEPECHE MODE and "NEW LIFE", on that week and also REO SPEEDWAGON`s classic "TAKE IT ON THE RUN". There was a big ABBA build up, in the top 3 with STARSOUND and the real thing (although ABBA did not get, an Official number one, let alone top 5 hit). SPANDAU BALLET and "CHANT NO` 1", was not an Official number one either, although it did top NME`s, Melody Maker`s, and MRIB`s charts. So, it was a mid-week number one.
  24. Another week comes to an end. 23 weeks to Christmas! Here is the usual look at a bunch of charts, in our weekly revival of the Network Chart Show (bringing those new hits first). Big albums, all the way with the NOW DANCE series. TRANSVISION VAMP and the tantilising WENDY JAMES. PRINCE taking us to the movies, with BATMAN (the first re-make in 21 years), which upset original 1960s Batman star ADAM WEST (who at this time, probably thought that he was Batman, anyway)!! MICHAEL KEATON played the part, at this point. MADONNA was going back up the album chart (just like this week). NENEH CHERRY brought us RAW LIKE SUSHI which contained a number of singles, including MANCHILD. TOM PETTY had his biggest chart album (breaking away, from the TRAVELLING WILBURYS project). QUEEN released their first album, in over 2 years "THE MIRACLE". CHAKA KHAN gave us her re-mix album "LIFE IS A DANCE", with remixes of "I`M EVERY WOMAN", and "AIN`T NOBODY". PAUL MCCRTNEY had a few singles, from his album. HIT FACTORY 3 was another STOCK, AITKEN AND WATERMAN best of. The top film in this week, of 89 was "BEACHES". The soundtrack was at 25, and featured the likes of BETTE MIDLER. Although, when you see the 41 - 50, things were a lot different. SONIA got a number one. LONDON BOYS followed up "REQUIEM", with LONDON NIGHTS. BETTE MIDLER took the track, from BEACHES, and took it into the top 3 (WIND BENEATH MY WINGS was originally recorded by GLADYS KNIGHT, in 1976...when she called it by the original title "HERO"). Down went SOUL II SOUL. BOBBY BROWN`s "ON OUR OWN" was the theme to GHOSTBUSTERS II. PET SHOP BOYS were still going strong. A GUY CALLED GERALD gave us, the house track "VOODOO RAY". KARYN WHITE sang "I`M NOT YOUR SUPERWOMAN", and took weeks, to get up the chart. GLADYS KNIGHT provided the theme to the Bond film "LICENCE TO KILL". DE LA SOUL provided an anti drugs anthem, based on an old DARYL HALL AND JOHN OATES hit. NORMAN COOK, of course became FATBOY SLIM (a few years later). PRINCE and the title track, to BATMAN. M (and ROBIN SCOTT) put POP MUSIK back in the top 20, 10 years on. KIRSTY MACCOLL covered the KINKS song "DAYS", from 1968. LA MIX got another hit, after 88`s "CHECK THIS OUT". DANNY WILSON sang THE SECOND SUMMER OF LOVE, a-tributing the current acid house scene. On the house scene, we had other hits, from DOUBLE TROUBLE, DOUG LAZY, and D MOB. Yep 1989, when all the girls started wearing Doc Martens, and dance was definately on the rise. Then along came JIVE BUNNY (excerpting spliced up, snatches of 1950s hits), and eventually selling 750,000 copies. JESUS JONES came on to the fore, but had their bigger hit(s) in the early part, of the 90s. EARTHA KITT, joined up with BRONSKI BEAT (minus JIMMY SOMERFIELD), and put on her "CHA CHA HEELS", very entertaining! ROXETTE and "DRESSED FOR SUCCESS", was a bigger hit, later on. The better hits, in the chart came GUN (BETTER DAYS, was brilliant), and THE THE were justed about finishing, with the singles chart. (The 1989 charts were compiled by MRIB - MEDIA RESEARCH INFORMATION BUREAU, for the Independant Radio Network). Hang around, because Dave will complete the thread, with the latest singles chart...soon.

Suddenly thought of Sultans Of Ping. 7 hits 92 - 94, all missed the top 40, apart from "You Talk Too Much" (number 26, in Jan 93). Or maybe Tindersticks...they released 22 singles 92 - 03, but only made the top 40 once with "Bathtime", in June 97.
