mrib etc charts for w/k ending 11/01
Yeah, it`s a shame. It might be a good idea, if Supermarket etc, start stocking all single releases again...taking note of Tesco`s own success, with Katie Melua. Katie, is still hanging in Tesco`s top 10. Had it been more available, it would still be in the national top 20, for sure.

mrib etc charts for w/k ending 11/01
On, to another set of charts, compiled by mrib/msn and Dave Taylor (davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk). MRIB having a helping hand with MSN, these days, it seems. Starting with the latest Albums... 01 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 02 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 03 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 04 NOW 68 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 05 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - MICHAEL BUBLE 06 BREATHLESS - SHAYNE WARD 07 BACK TO BLACK - AMYWINEHOUSE 08 BACK HOME - WESTLIFE 09 REJOICE - KATHERINE JENKINS 10 MOTHERSHIP - LED ZEPPELIN 11 LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN - EAGLES 12 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 13 MINSTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS - VARIOUS 14 X - KYLIE MINOGUE 15 DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS - VARIOUS Who remembers 1992`s albums?... 01 STARS - SIMPLY RED 02 GREATEST HITS II - QUEEN 03 SIMPLY THE BEST - TINA TURNER 04 NOW 20 - VARIOUS 05 DANGEROUS - MICHAEL JACKSON 06 REAL LOVE - LISA STANSFIELD 07 ACHTUNG BABY - U2 08 TIME LOVE AND TENDERNESS - MICHAEL BOLTON 09 ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER - MICHAEL CRAWFORD 10 DEFINITIVE - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL 11 WE CAN`T DANCE - GENESIS 12 GREATEST HITS I - QUEEN 13 HARDCOAR UPROAR - VARIOUS 14 SHEPHERD MOONS - ENYA 15 FROM TIME TO TIME - PAUL YOUNG 3 Michaels in the top 10, in 92, and HARDCORE UPROAR, was going to overtake NOW 20, on the following week...but QUEEN were dominating after the sad loss of FREDDIE MERCURY, 2 months earlier. The singles in 1992... w/k ending 10th Jan 92 01 THESE ARE THE DAYS OF OUR LOVES/BOHEMION RHAPSODY - QUEEN 02 JUSTIFIED AND ANCIENT - KLF/TAMMY WYNETTE 03 WHEN YOU TELL ME THAT YOU LOVE ME - DIANA ROSS 04 DON`T TALK JUST KISS - RIGHT SAID FRED/JOCELYN BROWN 05 ADDAMS GROOVE - HAMMER 06 LIVE AND LET DIE - GUNS N` ROSES 07 DON`T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME - ELTON JOHN/GEORGE MICHAEL 08 TOO BLIND TO SEE IT - KYM SIMS 09 ROOBARB AND CUSTARD - SHAFT 10 DRIVEN BY YOU - BRIAN MAY 11 JOSEPH MEGAMIX - JASON DONOVAN 12 STARS - SIMPLY RED 13 BARE NECESSITIES MEGAMIX - UK MIXMASTERS 14 BLACK OR WHITE - MICHAEL JACKSON 15 MARTIKA`S KITCHEN - MARTIKA 16 ALL WOMAN - LISA STANSFIELD 17 RIDE LIKE THE WIND - EAST SIDE BEAT 18 EVERYBODY MOVE - CATHY DENNIS 19 COMPLETE DOMINATOR - HUMAN RESOURCE 20 RUNNING OUT OF TIME - DIGITAL ORGASM 21 ROCKET MAN - KATE BUSH 22 GOODNIGHT GIRL - WET WET WET 23 WE SHOULD BE TOGETHER - CLIFF RICHARD 24 YOU SHOWED ME - SALT N` PEPA 25 AM I RIGHT - ERASURE 26 MYSTERIOUS WAYS - U2 27 WAS IT WORTH IT - PET SHOP BOYS 28 SMELLS LIKE TEEN SPIRIT - NIRVANA 29 SEVEN O` CLOCK/SILENT NIGHT - SIMON AND GARFUNKEL 30 WE GOT A LOVE THANG - CE CE PENISTON Independant radio still strongly taking the mrib chart in 1992, which showed with both U2, and Michael Jacson...BLACK OR WHITE, was in a remix battle with the original in Jan 92, Gallup listed them separately, but mrib listed both together...well it was the same song, and artist! With lots of dance, indie and other rock around, GUNS N` ROSES going WINGS with the 73 Bond theme, MC HAMMER lost his MC, for the theme to the ADAMMS FAMILY, the big film there of. SIMPLY RED heading back up, with the help of the album. EAST SIDE BEAT not getting much play on Independant radio, and a song that I could not find on YOU TUBE, the reworking of the CHRISTOPHER CROSS 1980 minor uk hit. CLIFF RICHARD was on the way out with the Christmas hit WE SHOULD BE TOGETHER (AT XMAS), but the quickie follow up THIS NEW YEAR stalled at 33....My favourite track by MOTLEY CRUE stalled at 38, HOME SWEET HOME (sounding like GUNS N` ROSES)!! Actually most of the best records, were outside the top 30, RUBBISH by CARTER USM, MAGIC`S BACK - MALCOM MCCLAREN, and OLD RED EYES IS BACK with the BEAUTIFUL SOUTH. The idea of the WEDDING PRESENT having 12 hits in a year went well, when they released a record every month, for the whole of 1992, starting with the release of BLUE EYES, on the 6th Jan 92. I certainly would not have predicted, that WET WET WET were on their way to have a number one single, with GOODNIGHT GIRL. It was a slowish, climb to the top, for them. Let`s check on this weeks films... 10 MR MAGORIUMS WONDER EMPORIUM 09 PS I LOVE YOU 08 KITE RUNNER 07 BALLS OF FURY 06 BEE HOME 05 ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS 04 ST TRINIANS 03 EHCHANTED 02 GOLDEN COMPASS 01 I AM A LEGEND The top off-line dvd rentals... 10 28 WEEKS LATER 09 ZODIAC 08 THE DEPARTED 07 SIMPSONS MOVIE 06 300 05 SHREK THE THIRD 04 TRANSFORMERS 03 PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN-WORLDS END 02 DIE HARD 4.0 01 BOURNE ULTIMATUM Here is the top 20 singles... 20 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LUV 19 RELAX TAKE IT EASY/LOLLIPOP - MIKA 18 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 17 CHANGE - SUGABABES 16 WHAT HURTS THE MOST/LAST CHRISTMAS - CASCADA 15 NOW YOUR`E GONE - BASSHUNTER 14 UMBRELLA - RIHANNA/JAY Z. 13 ABOUT YOU NOW - SUGABABES 12 HEARTBROKEN - T2/JODIE AYSHA 11 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 10 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 09 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 08 GOODBYE MR A - HOOSIERS 07 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 06 VALERIE - RONSON/WINEHOUSE 05 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND 04 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 03 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 02 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 01 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON The Physical top 10 singles sales... 01 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 02 WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD - KATIE MELUA 03 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 04 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 05 CHANGE - SUGABABES 06 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 07 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 08 HEARTBROKEN - T2/JODIE AYSHA 09 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LOVE 10 APOLOGISE - TIMBALAND A much better top 10 there, and no joke!

The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
I think it was less than Christmas Eve, for them, Friday 23rd December, is more likely. Thanks for the more likely figures, for Cliff...it`s probably 810,000, after extra downloads etc. MRIB are more business related these days, and don`t really deal with the general public. Which happened after the demise, of Emaps, Smash Hits Chart, in Sept 2006. No Sunday papers, take their charts anymore. The Sunday People did not renew their contract, in November, apparently. The old website, is ignored now, and not ever updated. They need some radio stations, to broadcast some charts. After 26 years, it seems to be fading, and the founder Barry Lazell died ten years ago...he was the chap, that first brought us an Indie chart, in 1980. MRIB grew from the old publication Record Business.

Hit40uk 2007
My thoughts exactly. I am wondering if, the chart broke off differently, to the BBC. It`s like the top 5, is sales only, up to last Sunday...then airplay kicks in from number 6...as we say, why is Rule the World, so low?...did they play Patience more? With a chart like that they should be playing "patience" with playing cards! Don`t know why people even bother, to listen!

The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
Thanks for that. Yeah, it`s a shame about radio one...they seem to want to go in too competition, with Lucio`s dire Hit40uk. I don`t believe Radio one, need to chat to extent...Capital have to do it, because apart from the top 10, Hit40uk, is pretty much unimportant, with far too much airplay, added to the chart. When the Network Chart was on, only 5% was airplay, and it made more sense. 1988, was a fine example, U2 and DESIRE was a big Independant radio airplay hit. It didn`t even make the top 40, end of year chart best sellers, on Radio one. If Hit40uk, had been on, in 88, DESIRE would have been played at number 11, probably!! Too much, airplay info, for sure. Give me a slick, no nonsense countdown any day, in the style of Simon Bates, Tom Browne, Tony Blackburn etc.

The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
I haven`t seen it in Reading either, since last month. It must depend on our individual towns. I was curious to find that only the deluxe version of Back to Black, was more readily available now, and the original version was suffering, in stock supply, and still OCC listed the albums separately!! mrib, did not do that, the original version was dropped.
-
The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
I suppose, some stores do have both versions, still in stock, maybe that`s why it is apparently selling, that well?
-
The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
Alright there, Norma? I reckon, it was just the online purchases. It was still at 12.95, in Reading too, in HMV, but only 8.95, in another well know store! Some kind of price rip-off, I reckon. Of course, this time last year, it was the number one, of the moment....

The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
Its number 60, actually 51 - 60, in the year end chart, are like this... 60 GOODBYE MR A. - HOOSIERS 59 GIRLFRIEND - AVRIL LAVIGNE 58 REHAB - AMY WINEHOUSE 57 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 56 UNINVITED - FREEMASONS 55 GIMME MORE - BRITNEY SPEARS 54 LIL` STAR - KELIS/C.LO 53 1973 - JAMES BLUNT 52 SHE`S SO LOVELY - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 51 A MOMENT LIKE THIS - LEONA LEWIS I reckon without a doubt the HOOSIERS album "TRICK TO LIFE" will go back up the album chart, tomorrow, and MIKA`s "LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION" will even go into the top 10, along with a top 20 re-entry, for TIMBALAND`s "SHOCK VALUE", and the SUGABABES, "CHANGES". All of those were, in various well known stores, top tens, this week, even RAISING SAND with ROBERT PLANT/ALISON KRAUS...Not fogetting AMY MCDONALD, and RIHANNA. I will be very surprised if TAKE THAT reclaim, a number 2 spot though. Remember on the mrib album chart last week, they were already a number 4, artist album, where as they were only number 8, on the official album chart.

The mrib best sellers of 2007 plus
HAPPY ENDING re-enters the top 40, and RELAX (TAKE IT EASY) enters for the first time. This single, is already on display, in HMV, on all 3 formats...On the other side of the fence LOVE TODAY becomes the 61st best seller of the year. On reflection, the chart this week, seems to look a bit like Hit40uk`s chart, last Sunday, apart from the top ten, coz the HOOSIERS (GOODBYE MR A.) was in their top 20 still, and HAPPY ENDING was 29, on there, last week.

Today, I spoke to the manager, of the entertainment section, at our local Woolworths. It seems there was a c**k-up in both Woolies, and Sainsbury. Both have album charts printed with Radiohead, at number one. Both stores, have been supplied copies, of the cd. However Radiohead`s record distributor, made a mistake of telling stores, that the album was released on 24th Dec. Radiohead`s management, told the distributers yesterday, to remove all, of the copies, from the shelfs. On display now are all empty boxes of the new cd!! With the charts, in the stores, still showing the album, at number one!!! Wow, could that have lost sells, if more copies got out early!! I wonder if anyone, actually managed, to take a copy, out of a store!!!
-
Radiohead
If they have...why have they got it in their album charts? And would Woolworths, and Sainsbury, both make the same mistake? Or is the mistake, in the stores, chart, and that`s why it`s on display? I suppose we will have to wait, until we see, a proper compiled chart. Not sure, whether I will see an mrib chart, this Saturday... Maybe Woolworths, and Sainsbury, have just restricted it to, the Southern area of England?

Question Re MW Subscription
I was quite surprised by Hit40uk yesterday, because the whole top 40 was played in full. I`m sure Lucio hasn`t done that before. I wrote it down, as he went along, so I definately got the chart that was played, on air.

christmas records??? or not?
On that edition of the Two Ronnies....originally, the BBC recorded a 50 minute version, of that show, but it was cut to 43 minutes, to be broadcasted on Christmas Day 1982. The 50 minute show, has never been shown, by the BBC, but in 1997, UK GOLD showed the full unedited programme, it hasn`t been shown since. The BBC showed another edited show, around 1998, where a sketch, from a 70s show, was added. On the original programme, there was a Christmas song medley, at the end, including David Esses, joining in...when Corbett/Baker sign off Ronnie B. says we won`t be with you again until next year. I have not seen that version of the show, since 1982! There is also, a 1980 series, that has never been repeated. It went out in Jan/Feb 1980, Barbera Dickson, was the guest. The series only ran for 6 editions, at 35 minutes, a programme. Wonder why, it has never been repeated on BBC, or Gold channels? On the 1983 Christmas show Elton John sing Cold as Christmas...a line in this song goes, "As cold as Christmas in the middle of the year"...apt, when the show was shown again, in Jul 1984!

Old Radio 1 playlists - anyone interested in seeing them?
It would be good to see some from the 70s, and 80s...

mrib charts w/k ending 28/12
I think the top 6, will be the same, there apparently is a closeness between Take That and One Republic/Timbaland, and also Girls Aloud and T2, and Wizzard and Michael Buble.
