Yep, here it is...I actually mixed them up, on typing them out, and suddenly thought, where`s Mariah? Of course, she hasn`t got aphysical release to supprt it. May be if she had she would be beating the Pogues... 01 NE WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 02 01 WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD/HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS - KATIE/EVA 03 02 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 04 03 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 05 10 FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK - POGUES/KIRSTY MACCOLL 06 06 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 07 07 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND 08 08 VALERIE - WINEHOUSE/RONSON 09 04 HEARTBROKEN - T2/JODIE AYSHA 10 05 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD Not a lot, of difference, apart from Mariah, although the Pogues, are doing slightly better, on downloads, that`s how they have overtaken Leona Lewis.

christmas records??? or not?
In Dulci Jubilo is actually a traditional carol, with the same tune as Good Christian Men Rejoice...theres the Christmas connection. However, from January 1976, Radio one played the other side, of the record, On Horseback.

It make`s it even more ridiculous, when the song is over 20 years old!! As Eric Idle sang: "Life`s a piece of $h!t, when you look at it!"

mrib charts w/k ending 21/12
I will see what I can do. Last year, I got a top 20, only. I can`t see why they find it so difficult, to do one, because it`s all compiled by computer, isn`t it!

mrib charts w/k ending 21/12
They never actually publish or broadcast one. Either way, we will slip in, the 2007 best sellers, that week! So, we will see what happens. Dave Taylor, has given me sketchy, pretty much static charts, in previous years, for those periods. It really depends on the Bank Holidays etc, and getting sales data.

mrib charts w/k ending 21/12
The Box download chart, and other satellite/cable channels charts, all have their info, that breaks off around Wednesday. Remember mrib, go right up to Friday, with their charts...so, on a Saturday, it`s the most up to date chart, you`ll ever find...

UK Christmas No.1 Singles/Albums
It`s true that HAPPY CHRISTMAS (WAR IS OVER) would have topped the chart, but in those days the charts changed on Tuesdays. John Lennon, would not have been the Christmas number one, however. If there had have been a chart with Lennon, at the top, it would have been announced on Tuesday 30th Dec 1980...so it did not affect the Christmas top 40. The first time, a chart was compiled in the new year period, was December/January 84/85...when BAND AID topped the chart for the first time, however that first new year chart, was ignored by Radio one, completely. Even on the following Sunday (6th Jan 1985) Richard Skinner, referered to "last weeks" positions of the 23rd Dec 1984. From Dec 1985, Radio One used the new year chart as well, but until 1987, it was never broadcasted in full. From December 1987, the charts were counted down on the Sunday, and the best selling singles of the year, were counted down, either on New Years Eve, or New Years Day. It was a 1971 postal strike, that meant that certain charts, that year were confined to a top 40 only, affecting postal returns. This did not have anything to do with the not compiling of a new year week chart, in any year at all.

The Biggest Selling UK Christmas Singles
Notice that the Christmas compilations, don`t celebrate the New Year. Why don`t the record companies, put together a New Year compilation? It would be quite a ploy, in the quiet week of new releases, between Christmas, and the 31st December. It could feature ABBA, U2, DINA CARROLL, CLIFF, FREDDIE AND THE DREAMERS, the G CLEFS, PAUL NICHOLAS and JOHN CHRISTIE on it...all bonafide New Year songs! Can anyone think of any other artists, who have done New Year related material?
-
The Biggest Selling UK Christmas Singles
Quite agree! If it was not on the Independant Radio list, we would have removed it. Somebody argued the other day, that the Power of Love by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, was a Christmas song, because the video, had the wise men in it! It`s true that these Christmas compilations, put these songs on, that are not even about Christmas. I was listening to one, that had Snowbird by Anne Murray on it. That`s nothing about Christmas either. Then, later on it had When the Red Red Robin, Comes Bob Bob Bobbing Along by Bing Crosby...it was more to do with songs about birds! Further down that Independant Radio list, there is The Land of Make Believe by Bucks Fizz...again no direct connection to Christmas!

I always enjoy the Barron Knights, because their versions of the songs, are so much cleverer, than the artists, that they have taken the mick of!

christmas records??? or not?
I quite agree, about STOP THE CALVARY etc, like I said in the Biggest Selling Christmas Records thread, on chart chat. Do you know, I saw another list that had, MILLENIUM PRAYER in it!! It may have been in the chart at Christmas, BUT not a Christmas song! Other ones are, PIPES OF PEACE, A WINTERS TALE, PERFECT YEAR, WINTER WORLD OF LOVE, WALKING IN THE AIR and ALL AROUND MY HAT. Someone else suggested to me that the POWER OF LOVE - FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD was actually a Christmas song, because the video, is about the wisemen etc. I certainly do not consider that it is a Christmas song! Someone else suggested that GRANDMA`S PARTY - PAUL NICHOLAS was a Christmas song, because it starts with a few bars of AULD LANG SYNE! We already, worked out that MARY HAD A LITTLE BOY - SNAP, was not actually about Mary and Joseph, but just cashed in on the title!

I reckon, you might be confusing Jennifer Holliday, with Jennifer Hart, unless Jennifer Holliday, guess starred in an episode. She did do, a bit of acting, and was an American too. As to Elvis, I would say mrib have included more days, than usual in the chart. That`s why he ain`t in the top 10. It looks like a real Saturday chart.

All of her songs, were rather over dramatic. Lots of screaming, and yelling etc!!

Thanks for pointing it out, Mikey mate! I didn`t spot that, I`ve corrected it now. I knew it was J. Holliday. I`ll tell you, that Dave Taylor, he must be full of pre-Christmas booze! He was probably thinking of JENNIFER HOLLIDAY from the 80s! Anyone remember her? She had a hit in 82, with AND I`M TELLING YOU I`M NOT GOING? She also, released lots of other singles, but they never made the UK charts!
