Absolutely agree. I have worked for a few radio stations, and the producer can sometimes "hold" the cards up for the presentation of the show. On a chart show, all the positions, "this" and "last" week are in front of them, together with number of weeks in the chart.. There is no reason, for a presenter to slip up, on that info. Going right back the likes of TOM BROWNE, TONY BLACKBURN, SIMON BATES etc, did not make that many mistakes! It has to be said that only MARK GOODIER ever played the top 40, in its entirety. Unfortunately Radio one, don`t want to do a slick, less chat, more chart type programme, anymore...they think it is old hat. Totatally rubbish!!! Bring back the "slick" countdowns of yesterday, at once! The radio one chart, would have a good host with someone like Sean Tilley, or Neil Winfield. Too Radio one...it is not a contest to play the number one before the other side!!!!!

The only problem on the Luxembourg chart, was the fact that some obscure smaller hit, could appear on the top 20, due to airplay..i.e. Steely Dan or Eric Clapton, would frequently make their top 20, but not even make the national top 40! The station re-running Radio Luxembourg top 20s, is KCFM 99.9, in Hull...Sundays 5 - 7pm, with Sean Tilley, and an older presenter, from the passed like PAUL BURNETT, TOM BROWNE, PETE MURRAY, ADRIAN JUSTE, DAVID HAMILTON, TONY PRINCE, BENNY BROWN, JIMMY SAVILE, and MIKE READ, the programme is also available, on the KCFM website, listen live facilty. It is also broadcasted, on OASIS FM, in Tenerife, in the wee small hours of 6am, Saturdays and Sundays, and again there is a listen live facilty.

Did you have a Redifussion TV rental telly, Mikey? They were all cable tv, and Luxembourg was broadcasted, on there from 7pm, and even then the fading was there! Redifussion used to team it up on the same channel as Radio one. R1 would be broadcast from 7am - 3pm, then Capital Radio, took over from 3 - 7, followed by Luxy!

Absolutely Chris, I did exactly the same! The reception used to fade out on 208AM, all of a sudden...some foreign speaking station, would start to slide up, over the top! I also noticed, that all the latest "new" local stations, used to be given frequencies, near 208 metres, certainly in the South-easr...210, sprung up in Reading, County Sound, on 203, BBC Radio London was on 206...what a battle it was too listen!

Maybe! It is the added airplay, that is pushing Hoosiers, Mika and Scouting for Girls up...when we did the quick research for this, it is very prevailant that ADELE and CHASING PAVEMENTS should be in the top 14, on airplay alone. We came to the agreement, not too include it, because the physical isn`t released just yet.

If you were around, in the late 60s, 70s, 80s, and early 90s...you may remember the Radio Luxembourg iin-house produced top 20 (also known as Next Weeks Chart). It was introduced in the 60s, on a Tuesday night, bringing the following week`s chart before, it ever happened! Presented by people like TONY PRINCE, BENNY BROWN, and even DAVID JENSEN. It ceased in 1991, along with Radio Luxembourg. The last presenter was SEAN TILLEY, when the show went out at 9pm, on Sundays. Largely it was based, on the station`s airplay/powerplay hits, and the following week`s new releases, with a touch of advanced sales info. All though, some would say, it was "made up", it still had some very well worked out correctness, for the following week! Hey I thought, why don`t we ressurect it for Buzzjack? But we have to do some proper research. So, I got together with a couple of buddies, 2 of which, work in record stores. I went out with another friend, and we noted various stores, "own" produced Monday singles charts. Covering 4 different stores, HMV, WOOLWORTHS, and 2 other lesser known stores. We noted their individual chart positions, had a look at 4 download top 20s, from other on-line stores, took a look at the Radio/TV airplay chart, added all the info together, and so came up with the following.... How will this look, on next Sunday`s official countdown? But 8 out of the top 20 positions, were correct, with number 10 and 11 just reversed (nearly half, of the chart correct)...well done to Luxembourg 29 years ago! But, this year, now Capital Radio, are producing it in-house, it can improve. Lucio, tells us that this year, the full top 40, will be played every week. He will also run down the top 10 albums, at 6pm, then the top 10 official singles, will be played non-stop without ads, or hardly any chat. There will be a couple of pre-release songs played, each week, mingled with the chart. Does anyone remember NATASHA ENGLAND? In 1982, she had a top ten hit, with a re-make of IKO IKO (which, was also covered by the BELLE STARS, at the same time). This month, NATASHA, has re-recorded 9 different mixes of this, and hopes to take it back up the charts. Why has she re-recorded it, you may ask? Well, up to this point, it was the only top ten, hit of the 80s, unavailable digitally. That has now been rectified, and included with the Budapest mix, and the other 7 mixes, is the original mix, from the summer of 1982. Originally, meant to be released in Feb 1982, it was kept back for June 82. Will the 2008 mixes sell? Time will tell!

Hate that I Love You, is the only physical that is still about the top 40. I would think trying to find a physical version of Umbrella, might be difficult. I have not seen it in any shop, this side of last October! The amount of downloads, would out shine, physicals even more, at the bottom end of the combined Physical/downloads chart. If you took a purely physical top 75...the amount of copies the number 75 sold, would be just a handful of copies!

It`s a good one, and it even popped up, on a Sky music channel, last week! Quite a lot of females in that 92, chart, Mikey...

Yeah, it`s a shame. It might be a good idea, if Supermarket etc, start stocking all single releases again...taking note of Tesco`s own success, with Katie Melua. Katie, is still hanging in Tesco`s top 10. Had it been more available, it would still be in the national top 20, for sure.

Like someone said, it appears to be in certain HMV stores already, but just some...rather like Mika`s single was last week! What is happening! A chap, in our store said, he likes all releases to be on display physically, if it is\already downloadable...I think he has a big point, well done to that man!

I think it was less than Christmas Eve, for them, Friday 23rd December, is more likely. Thanks for the more likely figures, for Cliff...it`s probably 810,000, after extra downloads etc. MRIB are more business related these days, and don`t really deal with the general public. Which happened after the demise, of Emaps, Smash Hits Chart, in Sept 2006. No Sunday papers, take their charts anymore. The Sunday People did not renew their contract, in November, apparently. The old website, is ignored now, and not ever updated. They need some radio stations, to broadcast some charts. After 26 years, it seems to be fading, and the founder Barry Lazell died ten years ago...he was the chap, that first brought us an Indie chart, in 1980. MRIB grew from the old publication Record Business.

My thoughts exactly. I am wondering if, the chart broke off differently, to the BBC. It`s like the top 5, is sales only, up to last Sunday...then airplay kicks in from number 6...as we say, why is Rule the World, so low?...did they play Patience more? With a chart like that they should be playing "patience" with playing cards! Don`t know why people even bother, to listen!

Thanks for that. Yeah, it`s a shame about radio one...they seem to want to go in too competition, with Lucio`s dire Hit40uk. I don`t believe Radio one, need to chat to extent...Capital have to do it, because apart from the top 10, Hit40uk, is pretty much unimportant, with far too much airplay, added to the chart. When the Network Chart was on, only 5% was airplay, and it made more sense. 1988, was a fine example, U2 and DESIRE was a big Independant radio airplay hit. It didn`t even make the top 40, end of year chart best sellers, on Radio one. If Hit40uk, had been on, in 88, DESIRE would have been played at number 11, probably!! Too much, airplay info, for sure. Give me a slick, no nonsense countdown any day, in the style of Simon Bates, Tom Browne, Tony Blackburn etc.

I haven`t seen it in Reading either, since last month. It must depend on our individual towns. I was curious to find that only the deluxe version of Back to Black, was more readily available now, and the original version was suffering, in stock supply, and still OCC listed the albums separately!! mrib, did not do that, the original version was dropped.

I suppose, some stores do have both versions, still in stock, maybe that`s why it is apparently selling, that well?

All of those were, in various well known stores, top tens, this week, even RAISING SAND with ROBERT PLANT/ALISON KRAUS...Not fogetting AMY MCDONALD, and RIHANNA. I will be very surprised if TAKE THAT reclaim, a number 2 spot though. Remember on the mrib album chart last week, they were already a number 4, artist album, where as they were only number 8, on the official album chart.
