wow! well done on getting all of the top 40 right last week :o
McFly at No.10 is wishful thinking...I can't see it missing the top 5...
We were quite kind in placing them at 10, I thought! :D The figures, we got on the physical pre-order, is way behind the downloads. Sometimes, downloads are a good thing, in stopping the likes of McFly, Westlife etc!

The beginning of another week, and a preview of what might happen, on next Sunday`s charts. With thanks to, the help of Peter Jay, and John McManus in their stores for info, on pre-orders. All put together, from info from HMV, ASDA, WOOLWORTHS, WHSMITH, ZAVVI, SAINSBURY, and TESCO. Add in download sites, at iTunes, HMV, TESCO, NAPSTER, and we come up with an average selection of album, and singles charts.
Last week, in the Singles we did absolutely spiffingly well, because for the first time in 19 years, got 40 out of 40 in the chart, 30 in the 30 (although not all in the right order). We had 18 in the 20, and 9 in the 10, and the top 4 exact! On the album front we had 26 in the 30, 18 in the 20, and 7 in the top 10.

LINKIN PARK - LEAVE OUT ALL THE REST, ONE NIGHT ONLY - YOU AND ME, are in the top 60. GIMME GIMME GIMME (A MAN AFTER MIDNIGHT appears at 73 from the MAMMA MIA Soundtrack.
The other week, I tipped NOAH AND THE WHALE (and they are in the 40, on downloads alone). Here are three tips, for future release:
LAY YOUR LOVE ON ME - BWO (released 28th Jul)
BUILT TO LAST - MELEE (released 21st Jul)
CAMEL - FAT FREDDY`S DROP (released 21st Jul)
BWO should squeeze in the top 40, as should MELEE. FAT FREDDY`s DROP probably won`t! Although, I must confess, I find it quite fun.

In July 1976 (the longest hot summer, of the 20th Century), Radio Luxembourg had 10 in the 10, 17 in the 20, and 27 in the 30. The Luxy bosses, obviously missed out the ISLEY BROTHERS "HARVEST FOR THE WORLD", here...probably forgot to include it! As it was already up 4 places, in the BBC top 30. Looking down that chart, we see that TV talent show "NEW FACES", had a run of "stars" on their hands with OUR KID,THE REAL THING, and LIVERPOOL EXPRESS (all from Liverpool). Where did the REAL THING spring from? I ask that because they won NEW FACES in 1975. Then suddenly bang, they were number one, with YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING. I must admit I was never a fan, of The REAL THING, and this proved more so...when I saw them live. I found a rather big ego, from the lead singer. Definately not to my liking! :puke2: Although, LIVERPOOL EXPRESS were just brilliant!

Thanks for the Charts Trevs - they're always very interesting.
The OCC are NOT allowing the 'Mamma Mia!' Film Soundtrack into
the Main Album Chart. It is regarded as a Various Artists Album -
and it is only going to be allowed into The OCC Compilation Chart
- as a New Entry at No.1, by the looks of things.
The OCC tell me that it would have been allowed into the Main
Chart had it been Credited to, Meryl Streep & Various Artists -
just as 'Evita', (1996), was allowed in, because that was Credited
to, Madonna & Various Artists.
Thanks for that info, Colin. I never did like the advent, of not including Compilations in the overall chart. An album is an album, and it`s good to know that, many Comps are outselling the artists.

MOTORHEAD doing the business in `81. They got knocked out, by CLIFF RICHARD, on the following week! DISCO DAYS AND DISCO NITES was just like it said, on the tin (this was the first, of the buy one, and get the other free, tv campaign). Obviously, you could not get them seperately, anyway! Most of the other albums, had singles doing good, for the artists in the singles chart. SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES (seemed to have been watching, a TARZAN film, featuring the JuJu tribes. CRASS came from Epping (East Essex), a punk group promoting anarchy, feminism, anti racism, anti war, and anti global affairs. JEAN MICHEL JARRE (the French born composer) continued to entertain, with his elctronic/synth pop/new age sound. PETE WYLIE was making music with WAH! or the MIGHTY WAH (to give them the full original name). THE CARPENTERS had a single from the album "BEECHWOOD 4,5,7,8,9", but it flopped. JIM STEINMAN was best known, for his compositions and productions, for the likes of MEAT LOAF...JOE JACKSON (born in Burton Upon Trent, Staffordshire) challenged punk in the late 70s, and broke through, also to the States, with his unique sounds. VANGELIS (one part of APHRODITES CHILD in the 60s), from Greece, gave us the film soundtrack, of the Oscar winning film "CHARIOTS OF FIRE". BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN slipped down, with his album (which was also, the title, of his latest single).

THE SPECIALS at the top, in 1981, featuring the talents of TERRY HALL. The Dutch produced sound of STARSOUND, bring us a tribute sound-a-like to ABBA. BAD MANNERS brought the CAN CAN up to date (also brought up to date, in 1962 with Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers). MICHAEL JACKSON was heading down! IMAGINATION scored their first hit...MOTORHEAD went live, and off of the album "Live In Hammersmith". TOM TOM CLUB were the female singers, from TALKING HEADS...BOB MARLEY passed away from cancer, and was back in charts, with his 1975 top 30 hit...ODDYSEY went Back to their roots, with a disco smash...ELAINE PAIGE took MEMORY, from "CATS" (The Lloyd/Webber London show). More disco, from THIRD WORLD, and QUINCY JONES. RANDY CRAWFORD missed the top ten, were the absolutely brilliant "YOU MIGHT NEED SOMEBODY" (much better, than the 90s SHOLA AMA hit)...KIRSTY MACCOLL met a bloke, who thought he was ELVIS (we have one, of them in Reading)!! KATE BUSH bounced up, with her unique style, but missed the top ten...BUCKS FIZZ had their second hit...DEPECHE MODE had their first...RAINBOW and SAXON brought us more rock...ABBA were challenging SPANDAU BALLET for new entries, in the end SPANDAU won the battle, to the top 3...DAVID GRANT was continuing the lead, on LINX...The EVASIONS gave us, a smile, with a tribute to ALAN WHICKER (loosely based on the TOM BROWNE hit, "FUNKIN` FOR JAMAICA"...VISAGE had a self-titled single, along with the vocals of STEVE STRANGE, previously featuring, with ULTRAVOX. KATE ROBBINS (Actress, impressionist, and overall funny lady) starred in CROSSROADS on tv, and gave us "MORE THAN IN LOVE", which she actually sang in the Soap...RED SOVINE passed away, and his country sickly/sad song went into the chart. GIDEA PARK was ADRIAN BAKER (doing a medley sound-a-like of the BEACH BOYS)...KID CREOLE got his first hit, and a big send up, followed with RONNIE BARKER, on the TWO RONNIES.
(The vintage charts, were compiled by MRIB, for Independant Radio in 1981).
To Robbie, I will email you, concerning the Radio Luxembourg 1970s charts.
Meanwhile, when Dave comes in from his Friday Hospital show, he will complete with the top singles this week. So, hang around...

Dare we say, MCFLY in the top 10, next Monday?!! :puke2: :teresa: ANNIE, and THE FEELING should be around the top 40. On a combined download/physical chart (if pre-orders are included) MCFLY would be Number One, FEELING number 13, and ANNIE number 19. That doesn`t mean a thing, of course!!

28 NE I KNEW THE BRIDE - DAVE EDMUNDS
29 26 GIVE A LITTLE BIT - SUPERTRAMP
30 NE STRAWBERRY LETTER 23 - BROTHERS JOHNSON
They did pretty good in 77, on Radio Luxembourg, with 9 in the top 10, 19 in the 20, and 28 in the top 30. STRAWBERRY LETTER 23, was the only major boo-boo, but it did get loads of airplay. Queen`s First E.P. sold on the popularity of "GOOD OLD FASHIONED LOVER BOY". Also, popular on airplay was the Supertramp single. A major powerplay Luxembourg airplay bubbler was the RAH BAND and "THE CRUNCH"...Just when you thought it was over, it started again!! Ever airplay was given to DAVE EDMUNDS (who always covered other people`s songs). ANDY GIBB also got lots, of airplay, but missed the official top 20 (Andy sadily passed away, in the late 80s). TAVARES looked promising, with the follow up to "WHODUNNIT", but did not get to the top 10, with "ONE STEP AWAY". A re-recorded version of "FEEL THE NEED IN ME", proved popular, for the DETROIT EMERALDS (who did it, as a follow up, to a re-released hits package, that was released on an E.P. entitled "COULD IT BE I`M FALLING IN LOVE". The SEX PISTOLS appeared on TOP OF THE POPS with "PRETTY VACANT", and HOT CHOCOLATE finally had a number one, but BONEY M made the top, on Radio Luxembourg, the following week.
Let`s finish with a quick challenge...Who will dethrone COLDPLAY from the top of the album chart? What do the team members, think?

20 14 CONFRONTATION - BOB MARLEY AND THE WAILERS
A severe lack of Compilations in 1983! Only STREET SOUNDS, and CHART STARS were in the combined top 30. Most of the top 10 artist albums, sporned a single in the same week`s singles chart. The POLICE did well keeping MICHAEL JACKSON off the top (but he did return, there later). ROD STEWART only managed number 3, with his album...as his single road higher in the singles...WHAM! were on their way, to the top of the album chart...ELTON JOHN had a much revived chart move, in 1983...DAVID SYLVIAN was doing well with JAPAN...KOOL AND THE GANG did alright, with the album...as did PETER GABRIEL, but lacked singles in 83...JON AND VANGELIS were ever popular...and TALKING HEADS were too (sporning the girls from the group, to form the TOM TOM CLUB in 1981)...Just outside the top 20 albums, was RICKIE LEE JONES and "GIRL AT HER VOLCANO". This album, did not carry any singles, and achieved absolutely no radioplays, either! We well remember RICKIE LEE JONES only chart selling single, was "CHUCKIE`S IN LOVE" in July 1979.

39 27 HANG ON NOW - KAJAGOOGOO
40 26 WE CAME TO DANCE - ULTRAVOX
2 weeks at the top, for ROD STEWART and his first number one, since 1977. IRENE CARA just missed, on the number one, with the theme to FLASHDANCE (A film, that she did not appear in)...MIKE OLDFIELD teamed up with MAGGIE REILLY...PAUL YOUNG covered a MARVIN GAYE 1969 B side (it was the B side to "TOO BUSY THINKING ABOUT MY BABY"). FREEEZ came along, with a song, that was well re-mixed years later...TOM ROBINSON was back...HEAVEN 17 followed up "TEMPTATION"...SHALAMAR had their last top ten hit...THE POLICE took a song from the album, and was simultaneosly a number one...ELTON JOHN scored 4 top 40 singles in 1983...NICK HAYWARD had a second hit, away from HAIRCUT 100...The ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA returned with a single, from the album...FUNK MASTERS looked promising, but disappeared quickly...FORBIDDEN COLOURS and SYLVIAN/SAKAMOTO was the theme to the film "MERRY CHRISTMAS MR LAWRENCE". MALCOM MCCLAREN went skating, as well as skipping, with a hit from the album "DUCK ROCK"...THE TRUTH scored with CONFUSION (featuring the talents of DENNIS GREAVES)...MARY JANE GIRLS were good to look at...JIMMY THE HOOVER only ever scored with "TANTALIZE". There were some follow ups, I bought KILL ME KWIK", in the Autumn. DONNA SUMMER was doing ok, on a comeback...ROMAN HOLIDAY also looked promising, but again faded away...MARILLION issued "GARDEN PARTY", and sounded like ALEX HARVEY`s "BOSTON TEA PARTY". A FLOCK OF SEAGULLS were on the decline, too...and MIDGE URE featured on ULTRAVOX, and his duet with the other JAPAN star MICK KARN. Incidently SHAKATAK who appear in this chart, recently performed in Japan, and are currently performing in a few performances, in various cafes in the London area, as well as doing an 80s show, with some other 80s, artists.
(The vintage charts were compiled by MRIB, for Independant Radio 1983).
The top singles, with Dave, for this week coming soon...

In June 95, we had 7 in the top 10, 17 in the 20, 24 in the 30, and just 33 in the top 40. Pretty ropey, really! In actual fact we do better, today. Didn`t we love the OUTHERE BROTHERS? No, we did not! A lot of re-makes in the chart. ROBSON AND JEROME`s double A was AL HIBBLER meets VERA LYNN, VIC AND BOB meets the MONKEES/NEIL DIAMOND, BABY D meet`s THE KORGIS, SHAGGY meets MUNGO JERRY, AMI GRANT meets JONI MITCHELL, CHINA BLACK meets ERIC CLAPTON meets KIRI TEKANAWA, RAPPIN 4-TAY meets GEORGE BENSON. The SHAGGY re-make would be the worse for me, but then I couldn`t stand his music! :puke2:
Let`s finish with 3 singles to watch...
Last week I picked Kylie, Goldfrapp, and Estelle. It look`s like Goldfrapp might miss, Estelle will hit the top 30, and Kylie will wait to 28th July.
Today I have picked these...
AIN`T NO LOVE IN THE HEART OF THE CITY - PAUL CARRACK released 7th July
STANDING NEXT TO ME - LAST SHADOW PUPPETS released 7th July
5 YEARS TIME - NOAH AND THE WHALE released 4th Aug
I reckon that, the pre-orders suggest top 40, for all 3. With Paul top 40, Last Shadows top 20, and Noah top 30.

June 1980 was a good year for the albums, 2 of my all time favourite albums in there, Regatta De Blanc by The Police, and Flesh & Blood by Roxy Music.
And this September coming I be celebrating 30 years of doing the charts, I first started September 79 writing down the chart in my big notepad while listening to Peter Powell on a Tuesday evenings at 6pm, while my mother shouting at me "turn that radio off and come down and get your dinner" my mum always had to do dinner at 6pm, so I took pad down while I was eating, I was listening to the chart and writing it down  how sad I was
I used to write it down too. I cheated though by copying the top 40, from THE SUN! Previously, to the 80s, all the papers, Sun. Mirror, Mail, and Sunday People, all printed the Melody Maker top 20. I remember trying, to follow the chart, in the Sunday People, while listening to Tom Browne and the Radio One top 20, and was confused, because it was all, out of sync! I often, wondered why no papers (other than Record Busines) printed the Independant Radio charts, until 1984. Even more so, with the Radio One, chart. It did appear in some, local newspapers, around 1979.
-
thanks for the charts!
1980 was a fairly decent year for music though there were some shocking #1s, of which Crying was one... it was also the year of the BBC musicians strike which took TOTP off air for several weeks, in May and June if I remember.
My favourite song from this chart was Christine by Siouxsie And The Banshees, their second in a run of 5 excellent singles in the years 1980 and 1981. Of these, Spellbound from June 1981 was the best...
Speaking of which, can I put in a request for 1981 for this chart next week, unless it has been done recently...?
I`ve already planned next Friday`s oldies, but Robbie, I will do 1981, on the 11th July, Okay?

HOT WAX was the latest K-tel album...PAUL MCCARTNEY issued an album, credited to just him, after years, of using Wings, as performers...SKY issued their second album, of rock-type classical pieces...BOB MARLEY resurged, and put more singles, into the chart too...BOB DYLAN is still Mr Forever, although some would say, his songs, sound better when performed, by other people!!...The PHOTOS were a striking uk group led by, the even more striking WENDY WU. They never had any single success, but all the newspaper coverage, of the very beautiful Wendy, put their album, right up in the top 10...JOAN ARMATRADING also used the title, of her album, for a single, as did the ROLLING STONES...It was back to the 50s, for CHAMPAGNE AND ROSES...ELTON JOHN had 21 songs, on his 33rpm LP...WHITESNAKE provided the heavy rock...and the slight rock of STEVE HACKETT, and not forgetting the echoes, of DIANA ROSS in her latest compilation.

3 weeks at the top for DON MCCLEAN back in the chart, after 8 years, covering ROY ORBISON`a 1961 minor hit. LIPPS INC, featured the sounds of CYNTHIA JOHNSON doing the lead...ROBERTA FLACK was back, with the late DONNY HATHAWAY...The KORGIS did the original of the hit, that became "I NEED YOUR LOVIN", some years later...STACY LATTISAW spiced up the disco...SPLODGENESSABOUNDS double Aed with SIMON TEMPLAR (which was a take, on the theme to the RETURN OF THE SAINT, and TWO PINTS OF LAGER was all about waiting at the bar, and not getting served...I know the feeling, to well!! UB40 had another double A...TEENA MARIE, ODDYSEY, CROWN HEIGHTS AFFAIR, along with LIQUID GOLD gave us more disco...LIQUID GOLD actually started promising, but began to sound all their songs, alike, and even a go at the same SONG FOR EUROPE in 1981, along with BUCKS FIZZ, could not revive their hits...QUEEN played the game, and missed the top 10...The best US comedy series ever, came to the fore in the UK, with the theme from MASH (Mobile Army Surgical Hospital)...DETROIT SPINNERS cut a 1961 SAM COOKE hit...JERMAINE JACKSON joined with STEVIE WONDER...SAXON got heavy, and had about 3 singles in the top 75, along with AC/DC, who had about 5!...ZANADU was the top film, all bout rollerskating...that was a big flop, but the music, from it, gave OLIVIA and ELO, a charttopper, and ELO had many other hits, from the film....In some circles the film, of XANADU is known as XANADUDU (i.e. slang)...SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES sang about CHRISTINE (THE STRAWBERRY GIRL)...JUDAS PRIEST was back (a very long rock giant, of rock)...The SEX PISTOLS were virtually finished with, and covered an old MONKEES number...CHANGE featured the talents of LUTHER VANDROSS...BAD MANNERS had their second hit, and the YELLOW MAGIC ORCHESTRA issued a single, that featured those tunes, from the arcade SPACE INVADERS etc games.
(The vintage charts, were compiled by Record Business, for Independant Radio, in 1980).
Dave will complete, over to you Dave...

don't think Nickelback will go as high as 12 in the singles :o
couldn't believe Asda had Jonas Brothers at No.1 :heehee: no way will anyone replace Coldplay, and certainly not them!
Was it Asda, where they were no`1? Or was that the chart, that they put on the wall? The chart we saw today from Asda, had them at 6. Altough Woolworths seem to think the Jonas Brothers will knock off Coldplay!!. Definately not!

iN 1998, we had 8 in the 10, 16 in the 20, 27 in the 30, and 35 in the 40. We over estimated LYNDEN DAVID HALL, ASIAN DUB FOUNDATION, MATCHBOX 20, and TRACY SHAW (who of course played Maxine in Coronation Street until the character was murdered in Emily`s house, by the notorius Brian Capron). Was that the most exciting thing to happen to her, aside being married to Darren Day?!
Last Monday, I finished on a new feature, of future releases. I mentioned EDWYN COLLINS, CRAIG DAVID, and GLAS VEGAS...I said that they would all miss the top 40...but it looks like the brilliant GLAS VEGAS will definately make it in!
Here are 3 future picks, for coming weeks...
CARAVAN GIRL - GOLDFRAPP (released 30th June)
NO SUBSTITUTE LOVE - ESTELLE (released 30th June)
ONE - KYLIE MINOGUE/FREEMASONS (28th July)
3 dead certs, I think for the top 40. Estelle, and Goldfrapp heading top 20 wise, on pre-orders...Dave tells me. Kylie would be in the top 15 already (if pre-orders were allowed in the chart)!! So, I predict a 2008 no` 1, for Miss Minogue.

Another Monday, another guide to what the chart might look like, on Sunday. Thanks, to Dave for doing the thread last Monday. Actually, when I looked at his results last week, I thought it didn`t look that good. He proved the gang right though, because there wasn`t much movement, in the top 20, at all, last night!

On COLDPLAY "VIVA LA VIDA", we have it in, whatever...the biggest seller this week, in on-going downloads. I spoke to Dave, last night and he said that the 18,000+ download sales, mentioned in Music Week were the combined single/album downloads. He says, the album version had about 5,000+ downloads, that would have put it at 25. Will it be allowed in this week? IF NOT THEN A NUMBER ONE, could be denied...asking the question, What does OCC, really mean?!
Last week the gang had 8 in the 10, 19 in the 20, 28 in the 30, and 35 in the 40 for the singles chart, and in the albums 10 in the 10, 15 in the 20, and just 23 in the top 30 combined chart.
Back in the year 2000, we came up with this on Monday 12th June...

40 NE ST ETIENNE - HEART FAILED (IN THE BACK OF A TAXI)
E. TYPE, KEVIN KENNEDY, EELS, and ST ETIENNE all missed the official chart top 50, in 2000...but we had `em in! We had 9 in the 10, 15 in the 20, 25 in the 30, and just 34 in the top 40! I would have thought that the E.TYPE football championships theme, would have made it in.
Quickly finish with something I nicked, from somewhere else. A feature, where we pick three hits, that might/might not be big, in future weeks, based on pre-orders.
So, check these out, for future release...
HOME AGAIN - EDWYN COLLINS released 23rd June
GERALDINE - GLAS VEGAS released 23rd June
OFFICIALLY YOURS - CRAIG DAVID released 23rd June
While, they may sale a few physically, I think they will all miss the combined download/physical top 40.
-
We touched on this earlier in the year with Rockstar, but has any single ever taken more than 13 weeks (continuous chart run) to climb into the top 15, as Gabriella Cilmi's 'Sweet About Me' just has?
I remember the thread earlier in the year on Nickelback.
I think we worked out that "Think Twice", by Celine Dion was one.
The one I mentioned then was "So Macho", by Sinitta. She had a see-saw ride, up and down a top 200...and took 21 weeks to make the top 15, in July 1986.
-
your job must be much harder now...there is no way you could have predicted the re-entry last week for Mint Royale...downloads really do throw up some surprises every now and then!
I do think Mint Royale will have the No.1 single this week though...
Very much harder. Obviously, pre-order physicals are easy enough (with the guys, at HMV). The download factor, is worked out by a mean-average from 4 download sites, and divided by 4! This is then, added to the main chart, by examining dropping physical-alone sales gaps! Add in an equation, of a download with a physical release, divided by 3.
Instore Album charts, are easier than singles, but it used to be the other way round.
Yep, it does make your brain hurt!

Here is the weekly salute to the days of Radio Luxembourg`s idea "Next Week`s Chart".
The day of the week, when our pals at HMV (Peter Jay and John Mcmanus) take a look at what`s been selling, and the pre-ordered bunch of today`s releases. Last week we got a had a good preview, because the top 3 singles were (again) spot on. We had 10 in the top 10, 18 in the 20, 26 in the 30, and 34 in the top 40. As usual download alone tracks, messed us up, later in the week!
In the album preview last week, we had 9 in the 10, 18 in the 20, and 28 in the top 30. Even though, we missed getting the number one album last week (well it was Bank Holiday!)
Let`s take a look at the Radio Luxembourg "Next Week`s Top 30", from June 1st 1982...

Radio Luxembourg, had 8 in the top 10, 15 in the 20, and 23 in the top 30. In those days, their chart was heavily laid, with airplay...sometimes it payed off. It has to be said that, they had ADAM ANT at number one, 2 weeks before anyone else. As did ALAN FREEMAN`s "PICK OF THE POPS-TAKE TWO", on Capital Radio, that same week.
Luxembourg over-estimated the popularity, of singles with Classix Nouveau, and Pete Townsend.

Another bumper bunch of charts, for late Friday. The usual bunch of Films, DVDs, Albums, a flashback to 1983, and finally Mr Dave Richard Taylor, will slip in the Singles top 50 (bang up todate) when he gets back from his weekly Hospital stint.

(The album chart is compiled by stores, and download sites up to, and including Wednesday night).

SPANDAU BALLET reigning supreme in 83. HEAVEN 17, a close 2nd, and THRILLER, a close 3rd (rather like this week`s album chart). DAVID BOWIE was just off the number one single (with LET`S DANCE) and the album, of the same name stuck at 4. IRON MAIDEN doing well. NEW ORDER with BLUE MONDAY (as a 12" single only). The album going down, here. IMAGINATION`s singles were beginning to dry up, chartwise...but the album was doing good. BOB MARLET passed away in 1981, but became one of the biggest reggae acts, of the 80s. The CREATURES, were more or less SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES (covering such songs, as the way old "RIGHT NOW"). B-52`s, had the album "WHAMMY", but singles in 1983 were almost non-existent. Only one compilation in the top 20..a recent hits comp, "CHART ENCOUNTERS OF THE HIT KIND". The only other compilation, in the top 30 was "THE LAUGHTER AND TEARS COLLECTION", a love collection.

POLICE knocked off SPANDAU BALLET in 1983 (but they were not arrested!) THE BEAT sang ANDY WILLIAMS top 3 hit from 63, JO BOXERS folowed up BOXER BEAT, HEAVEN 17 finally scored a big hit (after a 1981 flop). STYLE COUNCIL had their 2nd toptenner, after "SPEAK LIKE A CHILD", So PAUL WELLER was happy (rather like this week). Shall I state, the "bleeding obvious", with MAN UTD?! As Reading, drop from the Premiership...No! (At least JOHN MADEJSKI, can hold on to his wallet). PHIL FEARON had his first biggy, with GALAXY..Soul all over the place, with GEORGE BENSON, as well as smooth jazzy type with AL JAREAU. FUN BOY THREE sang a GO GO`s earlier hit (the GO GO`s featured a young BELINDA CARLISLE, of course). FORREST covered the DETROIT EMERALDS 1973 and 77 hit (also covered by SHAKIN` STEVENS in 1987, among others). Dance hits from D TRAIN, and MTUME. DAVID JOSEPH had a 2nd hit (away from 70s outfit HI TENSION). HALL AND OATES "FAMILY MAN" was written by MIKE OLDFIELD. ALTERED IMAGES (and the lovely CLARE GROGAN) were drying up. MODERN ROMANCE were struggling, but did revive themselves, for another top ten hit, later in 1983. AGNETHA FALTSKOG (the blonde from ABBA) tried solo, and just a couple of years back covered a CILLA BLACK hit "IF I THOUGHT YOU`D EVER CHANGE YOUR MIND". Finally ROBERT WYATT was back in the singles chart, following a 1974 rendition of the MONKEES/NEIL DIAMOND`s "I`M A BELIEVER". (The vintage charts, were compiled by MRIB). with special thanks to Colin, (as the proofreader, and spellchecker). Thanks Col!!
Hang On Dave will hopefully come in pretty soon, to complete the latest single/track chart (brought up todate, with Chart Show TV`s chart, but with today`s added sales).
So, stick with it...

In 1995, we had 9 in the 10, 17 in the 20, 23 in the 30, and 34 in the top 40. Two hits from 1975, in the 1995 chart with JIMMY SOMERVILLE covering SUSAN CADOGAN`s 75 hit "HURT SO GOOD", and CHINA BLACK doing the old negro song "SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT", which was a surprise top 20 hit, in 75 for ERIC CLAPTON...And later became a rugby anthem, but it`s even older than all of that and probably one of the oldest ever songs to chart. ELTON JOHN was MADE IN ENGLAND, right next door to BRYAN ADAMS...I found it rather funny here, because I suddenly thought just imagine, BRYAN ADAMS saying to ELTON JOHN, "Say Elton, have you ever really loved a woman!"
Next Week`s Chart 14th July 2008

Do you permanently wear a baseball cap, and cheap jewellery then John?! :D
