  1. Number 15!
  2. Oh dear another forum, I thought this one was best! I worked out that if the downloads that were available only, as a download wre removed, Cascada would be 46. So, blame the downloads, that jump in ahead!
  3. Cheers for that, I did know, but missed it! :)
  4. Sadly John, Cascada only scrape number 56, on the top 60.
  5. Another week flys by, and April approaches. What has been happening in the Albums, singles, films and dvd charts this week? Thanks to Dave Taylor (daverictaylor@yahoo.co.uk), we are going to find out, with the most up to date charts in Britain. Also, we back track to late March 1983. Such as SPANDAU BALLET, and the EURYTHMICS....Previously title tracks lifted from albums didn`t always sell too well, as singles. ELTON JOHN`s 1972 album HONKY CHATEAU springs to mind, as HONKY CAT as a single, didn`t make the top 30, in the 70s. More artists had singles from their current albums, in 1983, MARILLION, U2, JOAN ARMATRADING, BANANARAMA, TOTO, and infact most of that week`s top 30 album artists had a single lifted from it. FEARGAL SHARKEY was about to wrap up, the UNDERTONES, to form the ASSEMBLY, with VINCE CLARK (of YAZOO). Keep fit was the big thing, and JANE FONDA`s WORKOUT album was in the top 40, along with FELICITY KENDAL`s SHAPE UP AND DANCE. 1983`s singles chart... w/k ending 2nd Apr 1983 01 04 IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW - DURAN DURAN 02 08 LET`S DANCE - DAVID BOWIE 03 03 SPEAK LIKE A CHILD - STYLE COUNCIL 04 01 TOTAL ECLIPSE OF THE HEART - BONNIE TYLER 05 02 SWEET DREAMS - EURYTHMICS 06 18 DON`T TALK TO ME ABOUT LOVE - ALTERED IMAGES 07 09 RIP IT UP - ORANGE JUICE 08 05 ROCK THE BOAT - FORREST 09 20 DROP THE PILOT - JOAN ARMATRADING 10 07 NA NA HEY HEY KISS HIM GOODBYE - BANANARAMA 11 06 BILLIE JEAN - MICHAEL JACKSON 12 12 YOU CAN`T HIDE YOUR LOVE FROM ME - DAVID JOSEPH 13 26 BOXERBEAT - JO BOXERS 14 22 BLUE MONDAY - NEW ORDER 15 24 GARDEN PARTY - MEZZOFORTE 16 13 VISIONS IN BLUE - ULTRAVOX 17 14 RUN FOR YOUR LIFE - BUCKS FIZZ 18 29 WHISTLE DOWN THE WIND - NICK HEYWARD 19 34 FIELDS OF FIRE - BIG COUNTRY 20 32 ORCHARD ROAD - LEO SAYER 21 10 HIGH LIFE - MODERN ROMANCE 22 19 WAVES - BLANCMANGE 23 36 CRY ME A RIVER - MARI WILSON 24 21 COMMUNICATION - SPANDAU BALLET 25 43 BREAKAWAY - TRACEY ULLMAN 26 NE OOH TO BE AHH - KAJAGOOGOO 27 NE TWO HEARTS BEAT AS ONE - U2 28 23 JOY - BAND AKA 29 11 SHE MEANS NOTHING TO ME - PHIL EVERLY AND CLIFF RICHARD 30 NE I AM I`M ME - TWISTED SISTER DURAN DURAN bang at number one in 83, and BOWIE not far behind. EURYTHMICS were doing good, with ANNIE and DAVE...One dodgy person called "me", had the pleasure of actually playing the keyboards on a version, of said song, in a re-working at a Uni gig, a few years back! All the boys favourite singer CLARE GROGAN returned with ALTERED IMAGES...JOAN ARMATRADING lifted DROP THE PILOT from the album, to the top 10 singles. FORREST re-worked the 1974 hit by the HUES CORPORATION...One of the singers with FORREST was SINNITA. NICK HEYWARD went solo, from HAIRCUT 100...NEW ORDER had the big 12 inch version only, of BLUE MONDAY in the chart for the rest of the year!! TRACEY ULLMAN comedienne broke away from tv`s THREE OF A KIND, for a few chart hits, before going stateside...MEZZOFORTE had the catchy instrumental GARDEN PARTY (later used by BBC racing). One MICHELLE COLLINS (of EASTENDERS fame) was singing backing vocals, on the MARI WILSON re-worked 1957 JULIE LONDON smash...BUCKS FIZZ kept going, as Easter approached SWEET DREAMS (the group that is), won the SONG FOR EUROPE to enter the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST for the UK, with NEVER GIVING UP. KENNY EVERETT was back on BBC1, on Thursdays, after TOP OF THE POPS, and actually appeared on TOTP, performing SNOT RAP (which this week sat at 33, in the mrib top 40). While HOPE by the brilliant WAH, could get no higher than 32. I note that DAVID JOSEPH sat at number 12, in this chart, but for the life of me, I can not remember which group he sang with previous to this. So, please remind me someone??? What will knock her off the top? Will it be MADONNA or SAM SPARRO? Or neither? Maybe USHER will push passed the 2 of them? Outside the 45, The MANICS slip, and PORTISHEAD surprisingly enters at 47, with CASSIE just behind. KANYE WEST clocks up 3 hits simultaneously in the top 75, JORDIN SPARKS, and PLIES/AKON also sit in the top 75. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart, will be here on Monday. When we may find new entries from RADIOHEAD, MARIAH CAREY and the COURTEENERS...Will they all make the top 20? Find out Monday at 5pm.
  6. That`s why they sale though. It`s a gimmick to capture the males attention :puke2:
  7. That will be the official video download chart. I believe it`s going to happen before the end of the year.

I wondered at first if you saw him, when I saw him, but then maybe not. I saw him around 1992, in Reading. Least I thought I was going too! We went to his 8pm performance. He came on stage, dressed in army uniform. Then, a member of the audience shouted something out. Freddie mumbled something, went off stage, and refused to come back on, and that was the end of the evening! Asking around I thought maybe the person, in the audience swore at him, but apparently they didn`t. It turned out to be a sideways derogatry remark, that was probably a joke. However Mr Starr did not share his sense of humour.

What a busy morning, and aren`t the towns packed! The weekly Monday trip, brought a few surprises. Even though, we struggle to find shops, that still actually stock singles, in the South East. Anyway, with Peter, Dave, and John`s help, we took a look at what was happening in HMV (mainly for the singles), Woolworths, WH Smiths, Asda, Tesco, and Zavvi. In turn, for 80% of the single info, we went to the download sites/stores, of iTunes, HMV, Tesco, Play.com, and some other one that escapes me! Apart from that there was no sign of BOB SINCLAR, or WHITE STRIPES inside our top 50. We expect ESTELLE to even out sell, DUFFY`s first week, of physical release, and head for about 75,000 this week. We actually had 7 singles correctly placed last week. We also had 18 in the 20, 24 in the 30, and 37 in the 40...but not actually all in the right order!! In the albums last week we had the top 4 exact, 9 in the 10, 16 in the 20, 26 in the 30...again not all in the correct order! Finish with a classic chart...I had a couple of emails about the history of Luxembourg`s charts, last week. It of course, was originally a chart started in 1946 (which was the Sheet Music Chart, introduced by Teddy Johnson). This lasted on Radio Luxembourg, until 1959. Then, various presenters introduced the NME top 20 singles countdown, on Sunday nights, until 1966. Then, Radio Luxembourg started their own sales/airplay countdown (this was mainly because, pirate stations like Radio Caroline, and Radio London did their own chart shows). From 1966, Luxembourg toyed around with a top 30, then quickly returned to a top 20. In 1968/69 Paul Burnett introduced this on Saturday afternoons. By 1974, a top 30, had been introduced again (running on a Wednesday night). It shrunk back to a top 20 in 1976. The programme went to Tuesday nights in 1980, and again increased to a top 30. In Autumn 1987, it went back to a top 20, on a Monday night. In 1990, hosted by Shaun Tilley, it went to a Sunday night. The A.M. transmitter shut down at the end of 1991, but Luxy continued on Satellite. That disappeared a couple of years later, and the owners RTL, ran an oldies station, on the Luxembourg frequencies (as they do today). In 2008, Radio Luxembourg is back, as an internet station. One of the old hosts (Benny Brown) is on there, in an afternoon slot. As we mentioned 1974, here is the chart that went out on the 27th March 1974 (promoting the chart, for week ending 6th April 74) 01 01 BILLY DON`T BE A HERO - PAPER LACE 02 05 SEASONS IN THE SUN - TERRY JACKS 03 06 EMMA - HOT CHOCOLATE 04 02 MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN THE WORLD - CHARLIE RICHE 05 18 REMEMBER ME THIS WAY - GARY GLITTER 06 04 I GET A LITTLE SENTIMENTAL OVER YOU - NEW SEEKERS 07 13 ANGEL FACE - GLITTER BAND 08 03 THE AIR THAT I BREATHE - HOLLIES 09 12 SEVEN SEAS OF RYE - QUEEN 10 NE EVERYDAY - SLADE 11 11 SCHOOL LOVE - BARRY BLUE 12 16 JAMBAYLAYA - CARPENTERS 13 07 YOUR`E SIXTEEN - RINGO STARR 14 08 JET - WINGS 15 21 YOU ARE EVERYTHING - MARVIN GAYE/DIANA ROSS 16 19 LONG LIVE LOVE - OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN 17 14 CANDLE IN THE WIND - ELTON JOHN 18 24 MA MA BELLE - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 19 NE GOLDEN AGE OF ROCK N` ROLL - MOTT THE HOOPLE 20 25 LISTEN TO THE MUSIC - DOOBIE BROTHERS 21 09 REMEMBER - BAY CITY ROLLERS 22 10 JEALOUS MIND - ALVIN STARDUST 23 20 EVERLASTING LOVE - ROBERT KNIGHT 24 17 IT`S YOU - FREDDIE STARR 25 30 ROCK AROUND THE CLOCK - BILL HALEY 26 NE DOCTOR`S ORDERS - SUNNY 27 22 WOMBLING SONG - WOMBLES 28 26 BURN BABY BURN - HUDSON FORD 29 29 WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE - CANDLEWICK GREEN 30 NE I`M GONNA KNOCK ON YOUR DOOR - LITTLE JIMMY OSMOND Classic stuff indeed in 74 with QUEEN having their first hit...talent shows aghast as PAPER LACE and CANDLEWICK GREEN both won OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS...could actually say FREDDIE STARR came from the same show, but he was actually a comedian (or was he)?! I can tell a story about Freddie but not on this thread. OLIVIA NEWTON JOHN represented the UK in the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST....ABBA won, but that year both GIGIOLA CINQUETTI and also, MOUTH AND MacNEIL entered the UK charts from it afterwards. ROBERT KNIGHT was back with the original of EVERLASTING LOVE. BILL HALEY return with the COMETS...AND fans of DOCTOR WHO just recently may remember hearing BURN BABY BURN get a mention on the programme. HUDSON - FORD broke away from the STRAWBS, and later became the MUNKS in 79, to have a hit with the other classic "NICE LEGS SHAME ABOUT THE FACE". but "BURN BABY BURN" was all about all the damage being done to the planet, and things that we don`t really need in our society (very topical 34 years on).

HIT40uk, is 50/50 until you get to the top 10. Although the airplay is constant to ILR playlists. That is our equivalent to the Yanks. There is 10% airplay on the mrib chart.
  13. Really? Isn`t that strange. It seems that Great DJ has had 34,000 takers, since release...whether that means freebies, as well as buyers, is another matter! It went to number 16, in the mrib weekly chart, but as far as I can work out, it would have only made number 21, on the official chart.
  14. Yeah Mart!n, Easter in 80, was well into April! Looks like Estelle, is repeating just what Duffy did, and quite smashing in on Downloads alone, I think she can keep Madonna out, of the number one spot, in weeks to come

Further down the album chart, later 80s sucess followed for PSYCADELIC FURS at 24, and DEF LEPPARD, and ON THROUGH THE NIGHT was 21. 1980`s singles... w/k ending 29th March 1980 01 01 GOING UNDERGROUND - THE JAM 02 02 TOGETHER WE ARE BEAUTIFUL - FERN KINNEY 03 08 DANCE YOURSELF DIZZY - LIQUID GOLD 04 06 TURNING JAPANESE - VAPORS 05 03 TAKE THAT LOOK OFF YOUR FACE - MARTI WEBB 06 12 WORKING MY WAY BACK TO YOU - DETROIT SPINNERS 07 05 GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS - PETER GABRIEL 08 07 DO THAT TO ME ONE MORE TIME - CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE 09 14 STOMP - BROTHERS JOHNSON 10 16 ECHO BEACH - MARTHA AND THE MUFFINS 11 10 ALL NIGHT LONG - RAINBOW 12 13 CUBA - GIBSON BROTHERS 13 04 ATOMIC - BLONDIE 14 11 HANDS OFF SHE`S MINE - THE BEAT 15 18 SPIRT OF RADIO - RUSH 16 09 SO LONELY - POLICE 17 23 POISON IVY - LAMBRETTAS 18 27 TURN IT ON AGAIN - GENESIS 19 33 JANUARY FEBRUARY - BARBARA DICKSON 20 25 HAPPY HOUSE - SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHES 21 22 ANOTHER NAIL IN MY HEART - SQUEEZE 22 24 AT THE EDGE - STIFF LITTLE FINGERS 23 43 KING/FOOD FOR THOUGHT - UB40 24 30 DON`T PUSH IT DON`T FORCE IT - LEON HAYWOOD 25 36 LET`S DO ROCK STEADY - BODYSNATCHERS 26 15 AND THE BEAT GOES ON - WHISPERS 27 26 HOT DOG - SHAKIN` STEVENS 28 34 LOVE PATROL - DOOLEYS 29 NE LIVING AFTER MIDNIGHT - JUDAS PRIEST 30 29 TONIGHT I`M ALRIGHT - NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN The 2nd week at the top for the JAM in 1980. FERN KINNEY had been to the top with TOGETHER WE ARE BEAUTIFUL which had been a very minor hit in 79, for RICHARD ALLAN. LIQUID GOLD had problems after DANCE YOURSELF DIZZY when all follow ups sounded alike (but they did go into SONG FOR EUROPE in 1981, when they were beaten by BUCKS FIZZ). The VAPORS struck, and also had 2 minor follow ups. DETROIT SPINNERS went retro, with an olf FOUR SEASONS cover. MARTI WEBB was also in the stage version of TELL ME ON A SUNDAY consequencely getting a number 3 single. 6 years later she added the words for the HOWERDS WAY theme. CAPTAIN and TENNILLE kept TERRY WOGAN laughing as he referred to them as "CAPTAIN and TOENAIL". PETER GABRIEL finished with GENESIS years before, but here they were both in the top 20 seperately! RUSH had a surprise top 20 hit. GIBSON BROTHERS (they came from Martinique) re-issued CUBA as a double A with BETTER DO IT SALSA. Ska type reggae with the BEAT, and the BODYSNATCHERS. The LAMBRETTAS covered the COASTERS "POISON IVY". SQUEZZE, SIOUXIE and STIFF LITTLE FINGERS (all the s`s) had minor top 20 hits. SHAKIN` STEVENS had been around for years with the SUNSETS, here had his first hit. The DOOLEYS chart career was at an end, and JUDAS PRIEST wasn`t far to follow. Outside the 30, were some of my favs from, SECRET AFFAIR (MY WORLD) at 31, B.A. ROBERTSON was KOOL IN THE KAFTAN at 32, SAD CAFE had MY OH MY at 35, TONY RALLO was HOLDIN` ON at 34, and JOHN FOXX (formerly of ULTRAVOX) had NO ONE DRIVIN` at 36. As PRIMA DONNA won SONG FOR EUROPE this week in 1980, they later missed the top 40, and in EUROVISION got well beaten by JOHNNY LOGAN for Ireland (who himself, was born in Australia)! We are on to the big finish, the singles chart...physically this week...LEONA is 1, DUFFY is 2, ONE REPUBLIC are 3, UTAH SAINTS, and GIRLS ALOUD follow...On downloads it`s...ESTELLE at 1, DUFFY at 2, MADONNA at 3, FLO RIDA at 4, ONE REPUBLIC at 5...Put it together, and the following is arrived at, in the most up to date chart in Britain... w/k ending 28/03 40 NE SWEET LIKE ME - GABRIELLA CILMI 39 27 MY DESTINY - DELINQUENT 38 NE THIS SONG IS ABOUT YOU - THE ENEMY 37 22 CASSIUS - FOALS 36 32 VALERIE - RONSON/WINEHOUSE 35 25 GREAT DJ - TING TINGS 34 50 RUN - GNARLS BARKLEY 33 34 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 32 18 BEGINNING OF THE TWIST - FUTUREHEADS 31 17 GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE - ELBOW 30 29 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS 29 NE LOVE LIKE THIS - NATASHA AND SEAN 28 NE BLACK AND GOLD - SAM SPARRO 27 20 SUN GOES DOWN - DAVID JORDAN 26 30 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 25 23 US AGAINST THE WORLD - WESTLIFE 24 28 JUST FOR TONIGHT - ONE NIGHT ONLY 23 24 WORK - KELLY ROWLAND 22 26 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC 21 19 WOW - KYLIE MINOGUE 20 NE GET OVER IT - GUILLEMOTS 19 12 SCREAM - TIMBALAND 18 21 CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 17 11 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 16 14 WITH YOU - CHRIS BROWN 15 15 DENIAL - SUGABABES 14 13 9 IN THE AFTERNOON - PANIC AT THE DISCO 13 08 COME ON GIRLS - TAIO CRUZ 12 10 NOW YOUR`E GONE - BASSHUNTER 11 05 FASCINATION - ALPHABEAT 10 04 WHAT`S IT GONNA BE - H TWO 0 09 16 CAN`T SPEAK FRENCH - GIRLS ALOUD 08 09 SOMETHING GOOD - UTAH SAINTS VS VAN SHE 07 07 LOW - FLO RIDA 06 05 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 05 03 STOP AND STARE - ONE REPUBLIC 04 NE 4 MINUTES - MADONNA 03 02 MERCY - DUFFY 02 01 BETTER IN TIME/FOOTSTEPS IN THE SAND (all downloads/single version tracks) 01 NE AMERICAN BOY - ESTELLE ESTELLE does it, with a single song, first heard on HIT40uk in January! She is 7,000 ahead of LEONA`s combination, and 11,000 ahead of DUFFY. Outside the chart further down... MANIC STREET PREACHERS are 47, ADDICTIVE/T2 are only 48 (what happened)? YAEL NAIM is 51, SCOUTING FOR GIRLS have 3 hits in this week, with SHE`S SO LOVELY and HEARTBEAT both top 60. BRITNEY, as well has 2, she is at 63 too. WILL I. AM, as well as CASSIE are both at the bottom of the top 75...all that, and the WOMBATS go back up the top 60, as well. Here to note, TING TINGS are actually the 48th biggest seller, of the year, so far (all though, relagated by the OCC)! But not mrib. Don`t forget Monday, may be a bank holiday, but we all work on Mondays whatever, so we will look into the future again, with NEXT WEEK`S CHART, when last week we told you first that ESTELLE, would be top 3, and GUILLEMOTS would be in the top 20!

The end of the single, was imminent unfortunately. Woolworths did announce that in most towns, they would no longer stock singles, from this month also. Zavvi follow, so the end is virtually here. Historically, in March 1956, Melody Maker first published their Singles chart. In March 1958, the BBC increased their averaged singles chart, to a top 20. Also, in March 1978, Tom Browne quit the BBC sunday chart countdown. So, March is turning into a random Spring clean! Is there a good side to the end of the single? Could mean the finish for, Westlife and the like, in never getting in the top 3, ever again!

We couldn`t put Madonna in, because she ain`t released until tomorrow on Download alone. We need something to go on, and download guess work, isn`t an option :D

Off we go, on another Monday. Woolworths sign the death of the single today, as they will no longer, have singles in store. So, it get`s increasingly difficult to buy a physical single release. Anyway off we weht to HMV, ZAVVI, TESCO, ASDA, and a couple of smaller back street stockists, and for today Dave, Peter, and myself came up with the following: On the albums... 01 NE NOW 69 - VARIOUS 02 01 ROCKFERRY - DUFFY 03 NE H.A.R.R.P - MUSE 04 02 DREAMING OUT LOUD - ONE REPUBLIC 05 04 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK 06 27 FLOORFILLERS 08 - VARIOUS 07 03 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 08 NE 11 - BRYAN ADAMS 09 NE KEEP IT SIMPLE - VAN MORRISON 10 15 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 11 NE SELDOM SEEN KID - ELBOW 12 NE DEPARTURE - TAIO CRUZ 13 05 BREAKDOWN 08-EUPHORIC DANCE - VARIOUS 14 21 MASSIVE R + B SPRING COLLECTION 08 - VARIOUS 15 08 MASH UP MIX 08 - VARIOUS 16 14 SEVENTH TREE - GOLDFRAPP 17 10 THRILLER 25 - MICHAEL JACKSON 18 NE BRAIN THRUST MASTERY - WE ARE SCIENTISTS 19 NE MUSIC OF THE SPHERES - MIKE OLDFIELD 20 NE ASHES TO ASHES - VARIOUS/OST 21 09 SOUND OF BASSLINE - VARIOUS 22 06 VERSION - MARK RONSON 23 13 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MACDONALD 24 12 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 25 11 19 - ADELE 26 36 CHANGES - SUGABABES 27 41 TANGLED UP - GIRLS ALOUD 28 33 ALL THE LOST SOULS - JAMES BLUNT 29 40 WE`LL LIVE AND DIE IN THESE TOWNS - ENEMY 30 07 ORACULAR SPECTACULAR - MGMT All the major new entries in the top 20, it look`s this week! Last week we had 28 out of the 30 in, 8 in the top 10, and 18 in the 20. So, not bad. Here is what we found in today`s single/track list... 01 01 BETTER IN TIME/FOOTSTEPS IN THE SAND - LEONA 02 02 MERCY - DUFFY 03 NE AMERICAN BOY - ESTELLE 04 03 STOP AND STARE - ONE REPUBLIC 05 08 SOMETHING GOOD 08 - UTAH SAINTS VS VAN SHE 06 09 FASCINATION - ALPHABEAT 07 07 LOW - FLO RIDA 08 41 9 IN THE AFTERNOON - PANIC AT THE DISCO 09 15 CAN`T SPEAK FRENCH - GIRLS ALOUD 10 04 WHAT`S IT GONNA BE - H TWO 0 11 05 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 12 18 DENIAL - SUGABABES 13 06 COME ON GIRLS - TAIO CRUZ 14 12 WITH YOU - CHRIS BROWN 15 10 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 16 14 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 17 11 SCREAM - TIMBALAND 18 NE GET OVER IT - GUILLEMOTS 19 NE SWEET ABOUT ME - GABRIELLA CILMI 20 NE GONNA BE MINE - ADDICTIVE/T2 21 19 WOW - KYLIE MINOGUE 22 17 CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 23 16 SUN GOES DOWN - DAVID JORDAN 24 22 WORK - KELLY ROWLAND 25 25 GREAT DJ - TING TINGS 26 13 US AGAINST THE WORLD - WESTLIFE 27 27 GROUNDS FOR DIVORCE - ELBOW 28 23 BEGINNING OF THE TWIST - FUTUREHEADS 29 21 JUST FOR TONIGHT - ONE NIGHT ONLY 30 30 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND Other new entries outside today`s top 30, included THE ENEMY, GNARLS BARKLEY in the top 40, and SAM SPARRO, the MANICS, and MOBY in the top 50. SUPERGRASS, and BOY KILL BOY were in a top 100 position. How will it look, next Sunday??? Time will tell. Last week, in the singles, we had the top 10 pretty accurate (with no seperation of the controversial, Leona business). 18 in the 20, 26 in the 30, and 37 in the 40. Back in 1986, on Tues 18th March, Radio Luxembourg, came up with this, for the week ending 29th March 1986... 01 NE LIVING DOLL - CLIFF AND THE YOUNG ONES 02 03 ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS - DAVID BOWIE 03 08 KISS - PRINCE 04 05 HI HO SILVER - JIM DIAMOND 05 07 MOVE AWAY - CULTURE CLUB 06 01 CHAIN REACTION 07 20 HARLEM SHUFFLE - ROLLING STONES 08 02 MANIC MONDAY - BANGLES 09 13 DIGGING YOUR SCENE - BLOW MONKEYS 10 12 KYRIE - MR MISTER 11 15 NO ONE IS TO BLAME - HOWERD JONES 12 29 YOU TO ME ARE EVERYTHING 86 - REAL THING 13 18 ROCK ME TONIGHT - FREDDIE JACKSON 14 16 THE HONEY THIEF - HIPSWAY 15 04 THEME FROM NEW YORK NEW YORK 16 10 DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE - HUEY LEWIS 17 06 LOVE MISSILE F1 11 - SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNICK 18 22 LOVE COMES QUICKLY - PET SHOP BOYS 19 07 NOTHING SERIOUS JUST BUGGIN` - WHISTLE 20 NE TOUCH ME - SAMANTHA FOX 21 NE PETER GUNNE - ART OF NOISE/DUANE EDDY 22 NE WONDERFUL WORLD - SAM COOKE 23 09 IF YOU WERE HERE TONIGHT - ALEXANDER O` NEIL 24 NE SECRET LOVERS - ATLANTIC STARR 25 26 CANDYMAN - SIOUXIE AND THE BANSHEES 26 NE OVERJOYED - STEVIE WONDER 27 NE UNDER A RAGING MOON - ROGER DALTRY 28 25 DON`T WASTE MY TIME - PAUL HARDCASTLE 29 28 WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH - BILLY OCEAN 30 17 BURNING HEART - SURVIVOR They had 18 in the 20 in 86, and 26 in the top 30. ROGER DALTRY only got to 43 in the Radio one chart. Luxembourg missed on this particular week and did not have QUEEN, FALCO or NEW ORDER in the 30. A pretty classic chart in all with Comic Relief and CLIFF AND THE YOUNG ONES...DAVID BOWIE and ABSOLUTE BEGINNERS, from the film (where ALAN FREEMAN played God)!! Re-issues galore with SAM COOKE and also the re-mix of the REAL THING`s 1976 hit (that was also covered in EASTENDERS by LETITIA DEAN and PAUL J. MEDFORD, calling themselves the Band). SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNICK caused problems at their gig, and promptly did not last that long!
  19. It`s certainly true about Lulu. Then, back further in September 1969. they listed 2 record labels, versions of the same banned record "Je`taime Moi Non Plus" seperately. This was exactly the same song, but one was on the Major Minor label, after Fontana, dropped it. All other charts, apart from that of Radio one, listed them together. A very similar story, with Ms Lewis.
  20. There was a case of that happening in January 1963. When on EMI`s own compiled chart, they listed all double A sides seperately. Cliff Richard knocked his self off, when the Next Time, was replaced by Bachelor Boy!!
  21. Yeah but, how can the officials actually tell what side of said single, the public prefer? In our record shop on Tuesday....a couple came in saying "We must buy, Footsteps in the Sand, it`s a good charity single". Obviously, they prefer that side, of the single. If, to be fair, it was seperate on the chart, they would have to decipher how many preferred FOOTSTEPS, and how many preferred BETTER IN TIME!! How can that be deciphered? It can`t!! Anyway, if you compare it to other famous double A sides, i.e ROD STEWART and I DON`T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT/FIRST CUT IS THE DEEPEST...and you seperated sides, it would have denied ROD and anyone else, a number one!! Obviously, in the 50s and 60s, it was easy to seperate sides, because people, would have to go to the record shop, and ask for the title, over the counter. Definately, can`t be decided today. If a fair option, was viable, then a double A, should maybe not allowed to be released. Why not put out 2 physicals, instead? But, that said, as the physical single, is practically finished anyway, it will obvious to tell which side is preferred, because singles, will soon be totally download.
  22. What are your feelings on Leona, Mart!n? Do you think that the OCC, should also, list the lot together? It looks very like, she will lose out by the seperation of OCC, by around 2,000+!!
  23. Late Friday night, early Saturday charts, thanks to Dave Taylor (daverictaylor@yahoo.co.uk). This week, we have the latest album chart, film and DVD charts, the most up to date singles chart in Britain, all back to back, with a look back to March 1992. CROWDED HOUSE and WOODFACE contained the single "WEATHER WITH YOU"...."Walking round the room, singing Stormy Weather, at 57 Mount Pleasant Street, etc"...SHAKESPEARS SISTER`s album contained the smash hit single "STAY", featuring one ex-member of BANANARAMA. At this point there were a lot of left overs from Valentines Day, still hanging in, with ELVIS, and also the TENDER LOVE comp. The Hardcore series, was also doing well...the Brits, pushed NIRVANA and also U2 back up the chart, and whatever happened to RIDE, and CURVE? They both released E.P. singles, as well as these 2 albums. Who remembers the singles chart in 92? w/k ending 21st Mar 1992 01 01 STAY - SHAKESPEARS SISTER 02 02 I LOVE YOUR SMILE - SHANICE 03 05 AMERICA: WHAT TIME IS LOVE - KLF 04 03 MY GIRL - TEMPTATIONS 05 NE HUMAN TOUCH - BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN 06 09 WEATHER WITH YOU - CROWDED HOUSE 07 06 IT`S A FINE DAY - OPUS III 08 07 ONE - U2 09 04 NOVEMBER RAIN - GUNS N` ROSES 10 12 COME AS YOU ARE - NIRVANA 11 24 TEARS IN HEAVEN - ERIC CLAPTON 12 31 TO BE WITH YOU - MR BIG 13 NE FINALLY - CE CE PENNISTON 14 28 DEEPER LOVE - CLIVILLES AND COLE 15 13 I KNOW - NEW ATLANTIC 16 08 IT MUST BE LOVE - MADNESS 17 34 WE ARE EACH OTHER - BEAUTIFUL SOUTH 18 30 TIME TO MAKE YOU MINE - LISA STANSFIELD 19 11 I`M DOIN` FINE NOW - PASADENAS 20 23 FEELS LIKE FOREVER - JOE COCKER 21 22 PLACES THAT BELONG TO YOU - BARBRA STRIESAND 22 19 MAKE IT ON MY OWN - ALISON LIMERICK 23 10 THOUGH I`D DIED AND GONE TO HEAVEN - BRYAN ADAMS 24 NE DEEPLY DIPPY - RIGHT SAID FRED 25 NE MORE THAN LOVE - WET WET WET 26 32 STEAL YOUR FIRE - GUN 27 35 RAVE GENERATOR - TOXIC TWO 28 16 FOR YOUR BABIES - SIMPLY RED 29 41 WE`VE GOT TO LIVE TOGETHER/WE GONNA GET - RAF 30 NE DO NOT PASS ME BY - HAMMER 31 49 LIFT EVERY VOICE (TAKE ME AWAY) - MASS ORDER 32 17 THE ONLY LIVING BOY IN NEW YORK - EVERYTHING BUT THE GIRL 33 NE SWEET HARMONY - LIQUID 34 14 DRAGGING ME DOWN - INSPIRAL CARPETS 35 46 FAR GONE AND OUT - JESUS AND MARY CHAIN 36 40 EVERY KINDA PEOPLE - ROBERT PALMER 37 44 UNDER THE BRIDGE - RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS 38 39 LOST IN YOUR LOVE - TONY HADLEY 39 36 COLOUR MY LIFE - M. This was the 5th week at the top for SHAKESPEARS SISTER, and the rather scary video! That kept SHANICE and the MOTOWN label, off the top totally. THE TEMPTATIONS are back in the album chart, this week, but in 92, a re-issue from the MacCauley Culkin film, was at last a UK hit. MADNESS were back in the singles, with a re-issue of a 1981 top 5 hit. OPUS III, told us that it was "Gonna be a fine day today, and a fine day tomorrow"....MR BIG were on their way to a MRIB number one. The chart was a mixed bag all round, with NIRVANA, JOE COCKER and BARBRA STRIESAND. Could WET WET WET follow up, a number one with MORE THAN LOVE? Nope, all they achieved with this was number 19, which of course came from the album HIGH ON THE HAPPY SIDE. NEW ATLANTIC, TOXIC TWO, and LIQUID supplied us, with what was left of the "rave" scene. JESUS AND MARY CHAIN were well supported by NME in the 80s, and early 90s, but by now the hits were drying up...The late ROBERT PALMER supplied us with another re-issue (from 1978). TONY HADLEY went solo, from SPANDAU BALLET, It was first time around for the CHILLIS, and MICHAEL JACKSON, fell a massive 25 places!! Meanwhile outside the 40, so did the WEDDING PRESENT at 43, with THREE (their 3rd release, in 3 months, because they released a single every month, for the whole of 92....anyone collect them alll? You can`t buy a physical version, without the other side. Will it top, the Official chart? Probabably not, because of the almost understandable rule, they have! PANIC AT THE DISCO, come from nowhere, is that the next number one, at number 10? As WE ARE SCIENTISTS plummet this week, it just coincidently has the same title, as the 1992 album, by GARY MOORE! Outside the 50 this week are, two umbrellas...with the MANICS at 51, and the RIHANNA/JAY Z version is 53...turning GABRIELLA CILMI into an umbrella sandwich, at 52!!, meanwhile the WOMBATS go down to 54, and SCOUTING FOR GIRLS reclaim a top 60 place, with SHE`S SO LOVELY. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart, here on Monday, when we will once again, get out our crystal ball...this week, when compared to today, we had the top 5, spot on!

Hi Martin, yep the rules, are a bit daft...if you have the physical the double A is there, but if you take the download, it ain`t! Maybe the downloads, should mean that if one song is downloaded, the other should be automatically provided free?

Another Monday, we battled the rain and wind, and from Peter, Dave, John, and moi...the weekly look at what might, or might not happened next Sunday!
