  1. 4th Feb (next Mon). It might blast the top 3 to bits!
  2. So, it`s the Monday post, of next week`s chart. The day when 3 of my other colleagues, take a look at what has been selling yesterday, and today, in various record shops. We take 4 shops sales info, add it together, then take a look at 4 download charts, add that in. Then top it up with Radioplay. This give`s a good idea, of how the charts, will look on the following Sunday! Firstly this week, I want to thank Brian Hankin (from another site), for all your interest last week. We got all over the web, last week because no one believed JAY SEAN would be that high! Let`s start with the albums... 01 NE 19 - ADELE 02 01 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 03 02 RAISING SAND - PLANT/KRAUSS 04 03 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MACDONALD 05 22 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK 06 04 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER 07 06 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 08 05 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 09 07 BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 10 NE SCREAM AIM FIRE - BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE 11 10 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 12 NE LATER LIVE (JOOLS HOLLAND) - VARIOUS 13 NE R + B LOVE SONGS - VARIOUS ARTISTS 14 12 GUIDE TO LOVES LOSS AND DESPERATION - WOMBATS 15 15 ROBYN - ROBYN 16 11 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS 91 - 08 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 17 08 COOL - LUPE FIASCO 18 24 ULTIMATE HITS - GARTH BROOKES 19 09 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 20 14 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD On our combined artist/compilation album chart last week, we had the top 4 totally correct, and almost the top 11. Lots of compilation albums in the charts, at the moment. Shame they are not included in OCCs main chart. They do publish a combined one, on the subscription to Music Week. Outside the top 20, down goes NOW 68, CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008, POWER OF LOVE is 23, LEONA is 24, BILLY FURY has a new entry at 25 (This being the 25th anniversary, of his sad passing in 1983). Also there are entries for GILES PETERSON, DAVID JORDAN is in the top 30, down goes AMY WINEHOUSE, MICHAEL BUBLE, and there is another new entry for K.D. LANG, in the top 40, along with MARS VOLTA and also, VAMPIRE WEEKEND. Here are todays singles, seemingly a close battle on... 01 02 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 02 01 CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 03 13 WORK - KELLY ROWLAND 04 04 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 05 08 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 06 05 SUPERSTAR - LUPE FIASCO 07 03 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS 08 NE JUST FOR TONIGHT - ONE NIGHT ONLY 09 37 SUN GOES DOWN - DAVID JORDAN 10 10 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 11 11 BE MINE - ROBYN 12 06 RIDE IT - JAY SEAN 13 07 HOMECOMING - KANYE WEST 14 09 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 15 12 APOLOGISE - TIMBALAND/ONE REPUBLIC 16 32 JUST FINE - MARY J. BLIGE 17 22 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 18 14 VALERIE - RONSON/WINEHOUSE 19 15 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 20 18 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS Last week, we managed to get 17 actually in the 20, not neccesarily in the right order though! It appears to be a 3 way battle at the top today, but BASSHUNTER reclaim the top spot. Outside the top 20, T2 are 21, WOMBATS 22, GIRLS ALOUD 23, BOOTY LUV 24, then CASCADA, MIKA, KYLIE and SCOUTING FOR GIRLS (SHE`S SO LOVELY)...New entries in the top 40, from ELLIOT MINOR, HOT CHIP (at 29), MICHAEL JACKSON/WILL I AM was in last week, and makes a steady climb, today. Further down (but not in the 40), were other entries for LAURA MARLING, RICHARD HAWLEY, and DUKE AND THE SPIRIT. Let`s compare a vintage chart from same week in 1975, this chart was announced on Radio Luxembourg, on Tues 28th Jan 1975. Supposably the chart for week ending 8th Feb 75... 01 01 JANUARY - PILOT 02 09 GOODBYE MY LOVE - GLITTER BAND 03 14 SUGAR CANDY KISSES - MAC AND KATIE KISSOON 04 02 THE BUMP - KENNY 05 05 MORNING SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN - DONNY AND MARIE OSMOND 06 04 NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE - GLORIA GAYNOR 07 17 PLEASE MR POSTMAN - CARPENTERS 08 08 ARE YOU READY TO ROCK - WIZZARD 09 07 HELP ME MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT - JOHN HOLT 10 18 FOOTSEE - WIGAN`S CHOSEN FEW 11 11 PROMISED LAND - ELVIS PRESLEY 12 10 CRYING OVER YOU - KEN BOOTHE 13 16 PURELY BY COINCIDENCE - SWEET SENSATION 14 03 MS GRACE - TYMES 15 12 STARDUST - DAVID ESSEX 16 20 SOMETHING FOR THE GIRL WITH EVERYTHING - SPARKS 17 06 DOWN DOWN - STATUS QUO 18 23 NOW I`M HERE - QUEEN 19 24 BLACK SUPERMAN - JOHNNY WAKELIN AND THE KINSHASA BAND 20 14 I CAN HELP - BILLY SWAN In 1975, they had 16, out of 20 in, but again not neccesarily in the right order! They missed entries from HELEN REDDY and the STYLISTICS. See how we do, with this weeks info, on Sunday`s new chart, and the mids. And thank you to Peter, Dave, and Simon, for all the info today. Tip of the day...DAVID JORDAN we reckon, could be on his way to the top of the chart???

I thought you followed my threads Angie! Yep SPICE GIRLS got to 4, GIRLS ALOUD entered at 2, ALICIA entered at 8, then promptly went down.

I was waiting for someone to ask about Booty Luv, and Some Kinda Rush...(who surprise, surprise) did get to number 9, the same week, Sugababes were number 5! How about that!
  6. trevs posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Well never mind least they did get to 5. On the combined downloads/physicals, it only made 13!
  7. trevs posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
On MRIB they entered at 10, but did rise in the first week of this year, and got to a high of number 5! Would you believe!
  8. trevs posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
Anytime. Actually the full physicals top 10, on MRIB that week were: 01 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 4th week at the top 02 2 HEARTS - KYLIE new 03 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT stuck 04 VALERIE - RONSON/WINEHOUSE stuck 05 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND up 3 06 HOME - WESTLIFE down 4 07 YOU DON`T HAVE TO SAY YOU LOVE ME - ELVIS new 08 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS new 09 ABOUT YOU NOW - SUGABABES down 2 10 GIMME MORE - BRITNEY down 4

Yep, we posted it last week, but just imagine, what might have happened if Katie and Eva, had been available, in every shop, as well as Tesco. It might have given Leon, a run for his money! Although Katie was only at 58, in the physical/downloads combined!

Alright Angie? Next Week`s Chart, is just a collaberation, with some others that are in the business, of Record shops, that get hold of the sales of the 2 days, of Sunday and Monday. You get 4 sales top 20s, add them with 4 download charts. That makes 40% either way. Then take radio/tvplay, to beef up the sales positions (mainly of download only singles, that are greatly difficult to do, because download sales of newer material, tend to increase, as the week progresses). Its a 20% airplay, that completes the chart. And that`s why Worse Case Scenario was in, a few weeks back! We first started to do that chart, even before Radio Luxembourg finished. We started it in the spring of 1989 (just a few mates, really). It was very like the Luxembourg chart even then! As we got to 1990, we actually had BEVERLY CRAVEN`s "PROMISE ME" in the chart, a year before, it hit any other chart, as it was being played, all over Southern England! In the chart we did, it was number 5, a whole year, before 1991`s release! Then also, in 1993, we had CHAKA DEMUS and PLIERS, at number one, on the Christmas chart, a whole 2 weeks, before it actually happened! One of my mates, thought it might be an idea, to post one, on here. It proved quite well recieved, by the likes of Jonny, and many others. So, that`s why I decided to post it every week. As last year came, it was easier to do an album next week`s chart, as the downloads, don`t greatly effect that (yet)! Unfortunately, the downloads increasing, through the week (on the singles front), put`s our top 10, on a Monday nearer to a physical top ten.

Thanks Mikey mate. As I typed I realised suddenly Jay is actually no. 11 today, I typed it at 12! Funnily enough, SAY SAY SAY was an mrib number 1, in 83, after relentless plugs, on Radio 1, and even appearing (after it was going down the chart to 14) on Noel Edmond`s LATE LATE BREAKFAST SHOW.

Another week flys passed! Before we start, I want to say thanks to Angie, for posting it all last week, as I was elsewhere. I popped into the library, sent the email and hoped she would look in her inbox, and lucky enough she did! Thanks Angie! So this week the top albums, top tracks/singles, top sellers from this week 30 years ago, the top classical albums (different I thought) and much more. With more thanks to Dave Taylor (davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk) as usual. The top selling albums... w/k ending 01/02 15 ULTIMATE HITS - GARTH BROOKES (new) 14 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 13 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 12 ALL THE RIGHT REASONS - NICKELBACK (RE-ENTRY) 11 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS 91 - 08 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 10 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 09 BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 08 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 07 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 06 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 05 COOL - LUPE FIASCO (NEW) 04 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER 03 RAISING SAND - PLANT/KRAUSS 02 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 01 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS Still a lot of sales going on, which actually makes LUPE FIASCO lose out on a number one. Does anyone remember 1977`s album chart though?... w/k ending 28/01/77 01 01 RED RIVER VALLEY - SLIM WHITMAN 02 04 DAVID SOUL - DAVID SOUL 03 02 ARRIVAL - ABBA 04 07 SONGS IN THE KEY OF LIFE - STEVIE WONDER 05 06 HOTEL CALIFORNIA - EAGLES 06 05 GREATEST HITS - ABBA 07 03 A DAY AT THE RACES - QUEEN 08 09 WIND AND WUTHERING - GENESIS 09 10 WINGS OVER AMERICA - PAUL MCCARTNEY/WINGS 10 23 EVITA - SOUNDTRACK 11 08 SHOWADDYWADDY - SHOWADDYWADDY 12 11 A NEW WORLD RECORD - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 13 NE LOW - DAVID BOWIE 14 14 GREATEST HITS - FRANKI VALLI AND THE FOUR SEASONS 15 12 20 GOLDEN GREATS - GLEN CAMPBELL I want to dedicate that 77 album chart to Zeus (also known as Colin) who has been unwell recently. Get well soon old chum. He`s a big ABBA fan, and in 77, Sweden`s biggest export with 2 albums sitting in the top ten. QUEEN nicking their title from a famous Marx Brothers film, of the same name, with hilarity all over the film set! This Queen album containing the hit number 2 single, SOMEBODY TO LOVE. Also recorded as part of the e.p. that George michael did with the group, some years later, after FREDDIE MERCURY`s passing. STEVIE WONDER`s Album containing the song ISN`T SHE LOVELY. Stevie refused to cut the song, for a prospective single release. So, one DAVID PARTON (an english producer/singer) cut a single version of his own, and sounded similar to Stevie, himself! ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER`s set doing great with the EVITA productions, the first time around....Lots of country music with SLIM WHITMAN hedding the list, and GLEN CAMPBELL at the bottom. The ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA album contained the hit single LIVIN`THING. Just outside the top 15, slipped DISCO ROCKET (a K-TEL album) that was total disco, LEO SAYER finally cracked the top 20, with ENDLESS FLIGHT, that sporned 4 top 30 singles. That was the albums. Here`s 1977`s singles chart... w/k ending 28/01/77 01 01 DON`T GIVE UP ON US - DAVID SOUL 02 02 DON`T CRY FOR ME ARGENTINA - JULIE COVINGTON 03 03 SIDESHOW - BARRY BIGGS 04 13 YOU`RE MORE THAN A NUMBER IN MY LITTLE RED BOOK - THE DRIFTERS 05 15 ISN`T SHE LOVELY - DAVID PARTON 06 04 I WISH - STEVIE WONDER 07 05 THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE - 10CC 08 08 WILD SIDE OF LIFE - STATUS QUO 09 16 DADDY COOL - BONEY M 10 09 CAR WASH - ROSE ROYCE 11 07 DR LOVE - TINA CHARLES 12 14 LIVING NEXT DOOR TO ALICE - SMOKIE 13 18 SUSPICION - ELVIS PRESLEY 14 06 MONEY MONEY MONEY - ABBA 15 10 UNDER THE MOON OF LOVE - SHOWADDYWADDY 16 21 DON`T BELIEVE A WORD - THIN LIZZY 17 NE WHEN I NEED YOU - LEO SAYER 18 12 PORTSMOUTH - MIKE OLDFIELD 19 17 GRANDMA`S PARTY - PAUL NICHOLAS 20 22 NEW KID IN TOWN - EAGLES 21 24 EVERY MAN MUST HAVE A DREAM - LIVERPOOL EXPRESS 22 35 DON`T LEAVE ME THIS WAY - HAROLD MELVIN AND THE BLUENOTES 23 20 FAIRYTALE - DANA 24 27 SMILE - PUSSYCAT 25 11 WHEN A CHILD IS BORN - JOHNNY MATHIS 26 19 HAITIAN DIVORCE - STEELYDAN 27 25 LOST WITHOUT YOUR LOVE - BREAD 28 32 FLIP - JESSE GREEN 29 40 IT TAKES ALL NIGHT LONG - GARY GLITTER 30 48 JACK IN THE BOX - THE MOMENTS There is actually a small connection, in the 77 singles top 30, with this week`s chart. We will get to that later! We already told you about DAVID PARTON...BARRY BIGGS had many a release as a Reggae singer, and so scored his only top 20 hit with SIDESHOW (which was recorded also, earlier by the STYLISTICS, and another group. BONEY M had their first hit, and everyone thought a certain male artist, in the group was actually singing...of course he was not! LIZ MITCHELL was the M in BONEY M, and practically arguably the group. LIZ herself living not far from me. STATUS QUO, getting in the top ten, with a HANK THOMPSON song, also recorded by JOSH McCRAE in 1960, and TOMMY QUICKLY in 64. LEO SAYER having both the number 17 single and album! PAUL NICHOLAS was off stage, and well before JUST GOOD FRIENDS, was the completely innocent popstar, with his 3rd top 20 hit...LIVERPOOL EXPRESS from Liverpool of course took part in NEW FACES (a kind of X-FACTOR) that also included other "talent" apart from the odd singer. The EAGLES scored their 1st of 2 top 20 singles...PUSSYCAT (from Holland) followed up MISSISIPPI with SMILE (a song just as good, that simply never gets played), but is on YOU TUBE with many of these, even GARY GLITTER, who had a comeback solo hit with IT TAKES ALL NIGHT LONG (TOO GET IT ON). These days it`s probably true! Outside the top 30, were BOOGIE NIGHTS - HEATWAVE, THE BROTHERS (off of OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS, with HUGHIE GREEN) and my favourite missed almost hit GORDON LIGHTFOOT`s, WRECK OF THE EDMUND FITZGERALD, and what class, that was. She wasn`t, and was kept off by DAVID SOUL, for a further 2 weeks. Question is, can ADELE get to the top next week, with the release of the album? Or can KELLY ROWLAND overtake everyone? Just outside the 40 this week are downers from RIHANNA (HTILY) is 41 looking to go back into the 40, also TIMBALAND (The Way I Are) is 42...there is KANYE WEST (Stronger), BLOC PARTY, MIKA (Happy Ending), ROBYN (Handle me) is 46, and there is DUFFY, MICHAEL JACKSON/WILL I AM (the original was better, with Paul McCartney in 1982), and the WOMBATS re-enter and are still dancing to Joy Division. That`s it. Don`t forget Next Week`s Chart (Monday around 4pm), when again, we might get some sales info and stuff about, what will or maybe won`t be in the Chart for the Sunday, of 3rd Feb! Yes, this is the only forum, that has a new chart, everyday! And also look out for new single releases in weeks, to come from H TWO, PLIES, COLBIE CAILLAT, and the return of ATOMIC KITTEN (who can`t keep their hands off old material), when they release a version of ANYONE WHO HAD A HEART (originally recorded by DIONNE WARWICK in 1964, that flopped for her), and substequently topped the chart, for CILLA BLACK. By cracky, that annoyed DIONNE WARWICK, quite a bit! I wonder if our other pal, "Jonny" might like the new one from ENVY AND OTHER SINS, entitled 'HIGHNESS)?

Were you not lucky enough to the original version of VALERIE, by the Zutons over there? Now that was much better than Ronson`s! Kaiser Chiefs, did a better version of Oh My God too, of course!
  15. I remember it was championed by Kiss100, in December, and has popped up, on Capital too. I had actually forgotten, about Jay Sean totally. Of course he had 2 top 10 and 1 top 20 hits between 2003 - 04, and a top 30 album. He was dropped by Virgin after that, and subsequently got a new record deal elsewhere. So, this is the come back single, with an album available from March. Feels like an advert, that reply!!
  16. It seem`s so, it was selling apparently well, in HMV, and Woolies, but it does not appear to be on download charts. So, it`s selling good physically, even so in a small back street shop. But physical sales, usually get beaten by downloads, as the week, goes on...that could mean a drop, by the end of the week??
  17. Monday afternoon, and our guide/preview to next Sundays charts. When we do it the Luxembourg way, and bring you next week`s charts, before they happen!! We went out into HMV, Woolworths, WHSmith, Tesco, Asda, and 3 other lesser known regional shops, took note of Monday sales/charts, then we took a look, at Tesco, Woolworths, HMV, Itunes download charts. We took, the up to minute Radio/tv airplay chart, added the lot together, and came up with the following, for the most up to the minute chart news. So, today we got this Album top 20... 01 02 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 02 03 RAISING SAND - PLANT/KRAUSS 03 01 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 04 05 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER 05 04 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 06 14 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 07 08 BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 08 NE COOL - LUPE FIASCO 09 09 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 10 16 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 11 11 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS 91 - 08 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 12 21 GUIDE TO LOVE LOSS AND DESPERATION - WOMBATS 13 12 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 14 06 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 15 10 ROBYN - ROBYN 16 NE THE RUSH - VARIOUS ARTISTS 17 17 NOW 68 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 18 13 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 19 19 CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 20 16 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - MICHAEL BUBLE We also found today that, CATPOWER and JUKEBOX was no. 21, The EELS had 2 albums in the top 30, BRITISH SEA POWER had slumped to 23, TTIMBALAND had slumped, and BRITNEY was rising to top 25, CASCADA slumped, and FRANK by AMY WINEHOUSE had jumped back up to 26, other new entries came from BLACK MOUNTAIN and LIGHTSPEED CHAMPION. Next Monday (28th) ADELE, will probably have both number one album and single, and so could end the budget/sales clog up. ROBERT PLANT/ALISON KRAUSS are number one, in one store, and no. 2 in another. Can that possibly get to the top? On the singles/tracks front... 01 13 CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 02 01 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 03 02 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY 04 05 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 05 03 SUPERSTAR - LUPE FIASCO 06 NE RIDE IT - JAY SEAN 07 07 HOMECOMING - KANYE WEST 08 04 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 09 06 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 10 10 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 11 11 BE MINE - ROBYN 12 09 APOLOGISE - TIMBALAND/ONE REPUBLIC 13 NE WORK - KELLY ROWLAND 14 16 VALERIE - MARK RONSON/AMY WINEHOUSE 15 12 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 16 22 MOVING TO NEW YORK - WOMBATS 17 14 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 18 15 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 19 08 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 20 20 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LUV Today we also found that, T2 had slumped to 21, ALICIA KEYS was 22, MIKA was also hanging around with RELAX, AMY MCDONALD was back up, there were top 40 entries for BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, MICHAEL JACKSON/WILL I AM (on downloads alone), and also MARY J. BLIGE (downloads again). There was also an entry for LITTLE ONES, and ORDINARY SONG. There did not seem to be any sign of J`LO, and HOLD IT DON`T DROP IT. JWith JAY SEAN doing well physically, and seemingly no downloads, can he really be in the top 10, on Sunday? How did we do last week? Well, out of the top 20, we had 18 songs in (but not nessecarily in the right order)!! We missed entries for COURTEENERS (who we had at 24, and we had WOMBATS at 22. So, pretty good, and similar on the album chart. Always we will be a bit out with downloads (as they increase, as the week progresses, i.e. ADELE last week opened in the top 15, but by Wednesday, she was at no.2)!! KELLY ROWLAND smashes to 13 today, combined with downloads and airplay. A clever boffin, predicted if she were available physically, she would prevail up to number 8 (will that be the high spot, for WORK)? How will it compare to Sunday`s new chart, and the mids, we will see!! I will add a chart from Luxembourg in 1986, see how they did then... This was broadcasted on Luxembourg, on Tuesday 21st Jan 1986. Supposebly, the chart for w/k ending 1st Feb 1986... 01 06 BROKEN WINGS - MISTER MISTER 02 23 PHANTOM OF THE OPERA - SARAH BRIGHTMAN/STEVE HARLEY 03 01 SUN ALWAYS SHINES ON TV - A-HA 04 20 ONLY LOVE - NANA MOUSKOURI 05 02 WALK OF LIFE - DIRE STRAITS 06 NE BORDERLINE - MADONNA 07 15 SUSPICIOUS MINDS - FYC 08 04 YOU LITTLE THIEF - FEARGAL SHARKEY 09 10 ALICE I WANT YOU JUST FOR ME - FULL FORCE 10 18 SYSEM ADDICT - FIVE STAR 11 11 WHO`S ZOOMIN` WHO - ARETHA FRANKLIN 12 12 IT`S ALRIGHT BABY`S COMING BACK - EURYTHMICS 13 03 WEST END GIRLS - PET SHOP BOYS 14 05 SATURDAY LOVE - CHERRELLE/ALEXANDER O` NEAL 15 21 SPIRIT OF 76 - THE ALARM 16 07 HIT THAT PERFECT BEAT - BRONSKI BEAT 17 NE PULL UP TO THE BUMPER/LA VIE EN ROSE - GRACE JONES 18 30 LIFE`S WHAT YOU MAKE IT - TALK TALK 19 09 RUSSIANS - STING 20 24 SHAKE YOUR FOUNDATIONS - AC/DC In 1986, they got 16 in the top 20, only one correct. MISTER MISTER was number one, in London in 86, but not nationally. And an over enthasized on the PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, that had a considerable amount of airplay on Luxy. They missed top 20 entries for BILLY OCEAN, SIMPLE MINDS, JAMES BROWN, and CLANNAD/BONO`s, IN A LIFETIME. At that point, the Luxembourg chart, was closer to the MRIB top 20.
  18. Airplay and the combination, of downloads, my dear!! We actually worked out, that if it was already available physically, under a clever made up guess of physical sales, it would already be number 3!! So we come to the conclusion, it will probably be the next new number one!!
  19. I started this last week, so this is the 2nd week. We salute what Radio Luxembourg, used to do. With a bit of sales/airplay we get a taster, for the following week`s chart. So this afternoon, I got busy with 4 colleagues (thats Brian, Dave, and Peter. A couple work in record shops, and me and Peter did the rest. We took info from various stores singles charts, 4 in all, including Woolworths and HMV, and 2 smaller outlets. Then we looked at the airplay chart, and 4 download charts. Added it together, and came up, with this. Starting with an album chart... 01 11 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 02 10 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 03 13 RAISING SAND - ROBERT PLANT AND ALISON KRAUSS 04 03 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 05 14 HAND BUILT BY ROBOTS - NEWTON FAULKNER 06 02 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 07 NE DO YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC - BRITISH SEA POWER 08 NE BIG TUNES 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 09 04 LIFE IN CARTOON MOTION - MIKA 10 17 ROBYN - ROBYN 11 08 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS - VARIOUS 12 12 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 13 06 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 14 09 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 15 07 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - BUBLE 16 16 GOOD GIRL GONE BAD - RIHANNA 17 05 NOW 68 - VARIOUS 18 15 SHOCK VALUE - TIMBALAND 19 01 CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008 - VARIOUS 20 NE COLOUR IT IN - MACCABEES With NEIL DIAMOND new just outside the 20, and RINGO STARR a bit further down, that was the averaged info, that we came up with, for albums. It was a surprise that the CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008, seemed to be selling well last week, in the shops we visited as a chartopper for Monday, but we found out last night, that it only entered at 14, in the Combined Artists/Compilation chart! The top 20 singles, that were seemingly doing ok today... 01 02 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 02 05 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS 03 21 SUPERSTAR - LUPE FIASCO 04 11 ROCKSTAR - NICKELBACK 05 13 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 06 03 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 07 22 HOMECOMING - KANYE WEST 08 01 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 09 07 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC/TIMBALAND 10 15 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 11 24 BE MINE - ROBYN 12 06 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 13 NE CHASING PAVEMENTS - ADELE 14 08 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 15 04 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 16 10 VALERIE - MARK RONSON 17 09 HEARTBROKEN - T2 18 12 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 19 14 RELAX - MIKA 20 23 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LUV Out of the top 20, from last Monday go HOOSIERS X 2, SUGABABES X 2, and CASCADA (at 21)...the WOMBATS are 22, today...and RADIOHEAD and the COURTEENERS also top 30 (although both on physical sales)...Could the Courteeners, crack the national top 30, on Sunday??? JACK JOHNSON, and JOSS STONE are also new entries. How will it reflect on the Official Chart, and the mids? How did we do last Monday...well not bad, Monday sales, in the shops we visited still showed LEON, at the top at that point, and LUPE, and KANYE gained more downloads as the week, progressed. Only real mistake, was with the HOOSIERS, and the exaggerated airplay on WORSE CASE SCENARIO, that failed to gain sales, of any sort!! Here is an old Luxembourg Chart, see how they did with it, in 1989... This was announced on Monday 16th Jan 1989, suposingly the chart for week ending 28th Jan 89 01 THE LIVING YEARS - MIKE AND THE MACHANICS 02 STOP - ERASURE 03 BUFFALO STANCE - NENEH CHERRY 04 SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY - FYC 05 BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY-FREEBIRD - WILL TO POWER 06 YOU GOT IT - ROY ORBISON 07 ESPECIALLY FOR YOU - KYLIE AND JASON 08 CUDDLY TOY - ROACHFORD 09 SOMETHINGS GOTTEN HOLD OF MY HEART - MARC ALMOND/GENE PITNEY 10 GOOD LIFE - INNER CITY 11 4 LETTER WORD - KIM WILDE 12 LOVE TRAIN - HOLLY JOHNSON 13 ALL SHE WANTS IS - DURAN DURAN 14 BABY DON`T FORGET MY NUMBER - MILLI VANILLI 15 WAITING FOR A STAR TO FALL - BOY MEETS GIRL 16 GET ON THE DANCEFLOOR - ROB BASE/DJ E-Z ROCK 17 LOCO IN ACAPULCO - FOUR TOPS 18 SUDDENLY - ANGRY ANDERSON 19 KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE - FREIHEIT 20 WAIT - ROBERT HOWERD/KYM MAZELLE How did they do in 1989, then? Well they got all of the positions wrong!! But 12 out of the top 15, did actually appear somewhere in the official top 15, the following Sunday! In the top 20, Luxembourg missed new entries from, BROTHER BEYOND (BE MY TWIN), TEN CITY (THAT`S THE WAY LOVE IS), WILL DOWNING/MICA PARIS (WHERE IS THE LOVE), and ADEVA (RESPECT)...It has to be said though, THE LIVING YEARS was actually a midweek number one, and they were only a position out, in the end...nearly there with ROACHFORD (who was no. 7, officially, and HOLLY JOHNSON at 12, was no. 10, officially!

Here is this week`s Hit40uk chart... 40 26 2 HEARTS - KYLIE 39 NE I FOUGHT THE LLOYDS - OYSTAR 38 35 LOST - MICHAEL BUBLE 37 22 RUBY - KAISER CHIEFS 36 25 WORRIED ABOUT RAY - HOOSIERS 35 36 CHASING CARS - SNOW PATROL 34 38 GIMME MORE - BRITNEY 33 29 THE WAY I ARE - TIMBALAND 32 21 SHINE - TAKE THAT 31 23 HAPPY ENDING - MIKA 30 31 PUMPKIN SOUP - KATE NASH 29 RE WORK - KELLY ROWLAND 28 34 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 27 NE BE MINE - ROBYN 26 16 HEY THERE DELILAH - PWTs 25 33 WHAT HURTS THE MOST - CASCADA 24 19 SHE`S SO LOVELY - SFG 23 24 WOW - KYLIE 22 17 HTILY - RIHANNA 21 NE HOMECOMING - KANYE 20 18 SOME KINDA RUSH - BOOTY LUV 19 20 RELAX - MIKA 18 08 HEARTBROKEN - T2 17 13 CHANGE - SUGABABES 16 12 GOODBYE MR A. - HOOSIERS 15 11 ABOUT YOU NOW - SUGABABES 14 10 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 13 07 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 12 03 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA 11 06 VALERIE - RONSON 10 15 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD 09 O5 RULE THE WORLD 08 04 APOLOGISE 07 NE SUPERSTAR 06 14 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC 05 01 WHEN YOU BELIEVE 04 08 ROCKSTAR 03 02 CRANK THAT SOULJA BOY 02 28 PIECE OF ME 01 32 NOW YOU`RE GONE All of the 40 on Hit40uk played as usual. A text competition via Kylie, spot the repeated note. The new release played was the next single by T2. In all, a pretty good show mainly non-stop, and not that many ads, or chat. Which was good. From what I hear Reggie, was not so good! Played 3 Rihanna`s, and missed This is the Life, with Amy McDonald...which of course was played by Lucio. Noticed on Hit40uk, the Hoosiers, obviously did not get enough combined airplay, to get in with flop Worse Case Scenario...even though airplay had it at number 5, in the national Radio/TV airplay chart.

Chart show tv...a week behind then! Maybe they can`t get a company to do a chart for them. OCC don`t like people even giving away, midweek positions. So they wouldn`t let them have one. Although the OCC, was originally known as CIN (Chart information network). They don`t actually compile the chart, the chart is researched by MILWARD BROWN (a research company) who do the adding up etc. The OCC (Official charts company) just support it, and distribute it etc. You may get stopped in the street, to do a survey, about products like hairsprays, make-up, fizzy drinks, or something...the survey, might be carried out by MILWARD BROWN who do the chart. Alternately, you might do a survey, for GALLUP, or the BRITISH MARKET RESEARCH BUREAU...all previous pop chart compilers! There are plenty of other market research companies...one day MILWARD BROWN could lose the contract, for the chart, and it could go to another. They have compiled the official chart since 1993. GALLUP did it between 1983 - 1993, and BRITISH MARKET RESEARCH BUREAU did it between Feb 1969 - Jan 1983. Before that no official chart existed, at all! The Chart Show started on Channel 4, in 1986 on Friday evenings. First of all it used MRIB`s chart, then when the Chart Show moved to ITV, on Saturdays, they used an in-house compiler. Meanwhile, on a Tuesday at 7pm, ITV launched the ROXY with DAVID JENSEN, which was ITV`s answer to TOP OF THE POPS (it lasted a couple of years, and disappeared) that was a TV version, of Independant radio`s the NETWORK CHART. The NEWS OF THE WORLD used to print the NETWORK (MRIB) Top 30, on a Sunday morning. Then later, they stopped doing so. The Sunday People, took up publishing the chart, shortly after (previously the People, printed the MELODY MAKER chart). Then, last November 25th, was the last time, a chart was featured in there. I don`t know, the set up, that Chart Show TV had, when downloads appeared, in the chart, Chart Show TV, seemed to go down the pan, with the Singles chart. The SMASH HITS CHART on EMAP stations, ran a combined download/sales/airplay chart, compiled by MRIB. When the programme finished in Sept 2006, the Sunday People MRIB chart, seemed to switch to physical sales, only...don`t know why. Most stations that took, the SMASH HITS CHART, now take HIT40UK (compiled by MILWARD BROWN and MUSIC CONTROL) with a total sales/download official top ten...and a combined airplay/sales/downloads 40 - 11 part of the chart. Other stations feature the A LIST, which is the best selling artists, of the week...not singles only, but albums, and other music related stuff. I do not know, anyone, who actually listens, to that one...never even see a chart, for it. I must find their website, sometime.

Yeah, I don`t get that album chart, at all. I noticed the Sunday People do not print charts, anymore. So, we can`t check the albums with that. Someone told me that the People didn`t renew a contract. I contacted the People, but got no reply. Maybe the albums, are only MSN sales too? Can`t comment on 3, Soulja Boy missing. Nickelback, not on MSN, can`t be right...I understand MSN, being different to the national download mids, because obviously MSN, is only a small percentage in the full/whole download sites etc...seems downloading Nickelback on MSN, ain`t happening! Got to be wrong, one asumes...

Its a combination of msn/mrib, up to Weds evening apparently based on msn sales only...I see what you mean about Nickelback, wonder if a mistake has been made? The albums definately have been messed up, to say the least, breaking off Tues. Singles obviously up to close of play, nationally yesterday.

Another week goes, and more charts. MSN/MRIB on an alliance it seems. This week, we have film charts, dvd charts, album charts, download charts, singles chart/or song chart, and a physical chart too. Teamed up with 1980, when the chart was much more likeable, and radio one, even played the Nolan Sisters, really!! Thanks to Dave Taylor (davericktaylor@yahoo.co.uk) for supplying this lot. Dave gave me this album chart, but either something is wrong with it, or it is out of date. It is totally physical, not that it matters. 01 01 IN RAINBOWS - RADIOHEAD 02 02 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 03 04 NOW 68 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 04 05 CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE - MICHAEL BUBLE 05 03 BEAUTIFUL WORLD - TAKE THAT 06 09 MINISTRY OF SOUND ANTHEMS - VARIOUS ARTISTS 07 NE CLUBBERS GUIDE TO 2008 - VARIOUS ARTISTS 08 08 BACK HOME - WESTLIFE 09 06 BREATHLESS - SHAYNE WARD 10 07 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 11 13 TRICK TO LIFE - HOOSIERS 12 11 MOTHERSHIP - LED ZEPPELIN 13 12 LONG ROAD TO RUIN - EAGLES 14 16 SCOUTING FOR GIRLS - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 15 15 DREAMBOATS AND PETTICOATS - VARIOUS ARTISTS Something, funny about that chart...maybe TAKE THAT and LEONA LEWIS should be reversed? WESTLIFE and SHAYNE that high? It seems that AMY MCDONALD, NEWTON FAULKNER, and MIKA are missing totally. Open to question....Probably TAKE THAT at 2, AMY should be 3, NEWTON 4, and MIKA 5, with NOW 68 at 6, Buble at 7, Leona (reversed) at 8, Ministry of Sound Anthems at 9, and Clubbers Guide to 2008 at 10? Open to question... Anyway back to 1980, the albums w/k ending 18th Jan 1980 01 02 GREATEST HITS VOL. 2 - ABBA 02 01 GREATEST HITS - ROD STEWART 03 04 REGATTA DE BLANC - POLICE 04 03 20 HOTTEST HITS - HOT CHOCOLATE 05 05 THE WALL - PINK FLOYD 06 09 GREATEST HITS - BEE GEES 07 12 EAT TO THE BEAT - BLONDIE 08 08 OFF THE WALL - MICHAEL JACKSON 09 13 ONE STEP BEYOND - MADNESS 10 10 GREATEST HITS - ELECTRIC LIGHT ORCHESTRA 11 11 20 GOLDEN GREATS - DIANA ROSS 12 06 LOVE SONGS - ELVIS PRESLEY 13 15 LONDON CALLING - CLASH 14 18 OUTLANDOS D`AMOUR - POLICE 15 07 PEACE IN THE VALLEY - VARIOUS ARTISTS I`m sure our good friend, and buddy Mikey, will remember those, like I certainly do...Most of those artists, had a single out at the same time, except ROD STEWART (who share`s his birthday with both me, and GEORGE FOREMAN, ex-boxer)!! HOT CHOCOLATE, had a couple of flop singles, out of 1979, BUT did recover in 1980, with a RECORD BUSINESS/MRIB number one "NO DOUBT ABOUT IT", that peaked at number 2, on the then official top 75 compiled by the British Market Research Bureau. PEACE IN THE VALLEY, was a RONCO album, full of easy listening peaceful type songs. ABBA`s original (and best version) of I HAVE A DREAM. TEARS OF A CLOWN - THE BEAT covering SMOKEY ROBINSON ska/reggae style...the NOLANS first top 20 hit, following up the small hit of SPIRIT, BODY AND SOUL released in Oct 79...GREEN ONIONS and BOOKER T, was a flop in Britain in 1962, and re-issued at the end of 79. DAVID BOWIE re-working the 1972 hit (if you flipped it over on t`other side, was the original...THE GIBSON BROTHERS - QUE SERA MI VIDA meant "IF YOU SHOULD GO". THE BEE GEES album title track SPIRITS HAVING FLOWN, spun into the top 30, singles...if you looked at a certain NME book, you would find a mistake because they have this down as TOO NICE TO TALK TOO, by the BEAT (which is definately a big mistake)! MIKE OLDFIELD composed the re-done BLUE PETER theme, for the series, where SARAH GREENE in 1980, replaced TINA HEATH (best known for playing the LIZY DRIPPING character, in the 70s series, of the same name. DIANA ROSS and IT`S MY HOUSE, was also covered reggae style, by British group STORM, who just missed the top 30, with their version...WE GOT THE FUNK - POSITIVE FORCE could have been the 1980, NOW YOU`RE GONE for repetiveness "Brian`s got the funk, I`ve got the funk, Vicky`s got the funk etc" What the funk, was all that about?!!! Let`s take a look at the download only chart, that is surprising...but compiled by msn data only... w/k ending 18/01/08 20 BE MINE - ROBYN 19 WHEN YOU BELIEVE - LEON JACKSON 18 GOODBYE MR A - HOOSIERS 17 HEARTBROKEN - T2 16 RELAX - MIKA 15 THIS IS THE LIFE - AMY MCDONALD 14 CRANK THAT - SOULJA BOY 13 ABOUT YOU NOW - SUGABABES 12 NO ONE - ALICIA KEYS 11 ELVIS AIN`T DEAD - SCOUTING FOR GIRLS 10 WHAT HURT`S THE MOST - CASCADA 09 RULE THE WORLD - TAKE THAT 08 SUPERSTAR - LUPE FIASCO 07 CALL THE SHOTS - GIRLS ALOUD 06 VALERIE - MARK RONSON 05 BLEEDING LOVE - LEONA LEWIS 04 NOW YOU`RE GONE - BASSHUNTER 03 APOLOGISE - ONE REPUBLIC 02 DON`T STOP THE MUSIC - RIHANNA 01 PIECE OF ME - BRITNEY SPEARS Britney and a number one download...and Rihanna not far behind there. BRITISH SEA POWER, and WAVING FLAGS, is taken from the album DO YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC, released Monday 14th Jan. Don`t forget to look out for NEXT WEEK`S CHART on Monday around 4pm, a weekly salute to Radio Luxembourg....where we visit 4 different well known stores, take 4 up to date download charts, take the airplay chart...add the lot together, and come up with the most up to minute singles chart...based on 40% physicals, 40% downloads, and 20% airplay. See how it looks on Monday, Basshunter were number 2, last Monday, and Britney at 5, so see how it ends up, this Monday at 4pm, alright!!
  25. I think that downloads should still have only be included, when there was also a physical release available, to buy as well, like the 2006 ruling. It was slightly better. If people want to download old songs, then they should be disqualified, if there is no physical single version available, and that goes for album tracks, as well.
