Burke: "I don't want to sing Covers"
Leona didn't need to say anything, she already knew long before she won the X Factor that she'd be working with all the hippest songwriters and producers on new material as Simon Cowell was already working on that and using his influence etc. Alexandra is much more "new, undiscovered" talent - well, apart from her X Factor 2005 audition  - than Leona ever was. I think Alex is more suited for uptempo stuff. She showed that on the X-Factor. Hope she gets some decent material. Although I think she can also pack in the soul into a big ballad. I also think comparisons with Leona are a bit unfair. Firstly, their voices are completely different. Alex has a richer tone in my opinion, though I adore Leona's whistle range. Alex's diction is much better ;) which is strange since Leona has far more experience. I really hope that Alex won't be promoted as "Leona Mark II". It won't work and would be really unfair to both ladies. P.S. Having heard "Hallelujah" - and not just Alexandra's version - about 50 times in the last month, I'm totally bored with the song. :manson:

The Official Top 100 End of Year Album Chart 2008
I agree with you. Although I think Will might still outsell him. ;) I think Christmas is the biggest time for selling classical/classic-pop music. Rhydian will struggle to reach 2x platinum.

Buzzjack music awards
Never saw this until it was too late, but it's good to see that Will has won.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
That bit in the Christmas Carol (especially the Muppet version, which is my favourite) always makes me blub. So, I'm joining in with Tiny Tim, too, thanks Chrysalis!   :friends:

MERRY CHRISTMAS
Same to you guys. I'm off tomorrow (well, today, really!), to Germany. Have a good one, everyone! :D :yahoo: I love the little Santa smilies that Buzzjack have at the moment. Shame they'll all morph back. Anyway, peace and love to all!

Thanks for that, munchkin! Now there's a review that sounds more like it's speaking about the same concert as the one I went to! :)

UK's Fastest Million Selling Albums
How long did it take for Will Young's Friday's Child (2003) to reach the magic 1m?

Happychat thread part trois!
It is actually the most expensive cup I've ever bought. That includes a mug I bought for my father (20 years ago?) which was engraved with his name! For me, a cup or mug are there to be used, so I shall continue to scald Will's face with steaming hot tea (no wonder he looks shocked!). Off to make another cuppa. :naughty:

Let It Go Tour Reviews.
Actually, just realised, I WAS there for the penultimate concert, but the ES review mentions Will asking about X-Factor winner, so they must be talking about the last night. Maybe the audience was completely different on the last night - though I doubt it! ;) Thinking back, though, to the album launch concert, that audience really was dominated by 45+ year-old women, which possibly reflects the makeup of his keenest and most devoted fans, especially those registered on the O/S and Devoted.

Will Special Guest of Elton John O2 New Years Eve!
Yes, great news. :D I'm seriously considering renewing my TV licence  and getting my old telly set (which is currently stored at a friend's house) back! As for Alexandra, maybe she can borrow some of Will's rescue remedy! Seriously, though, I'm very happy for her, too, good girl!

Isn't the album at #31 this week? Which is not bad, considering it hasn't been reduced in many places. Hope we get some sales info. :)

Let It Go Tour Reviews.
Just found another review, from www.thisislondon.co.uk which is basically the entertainment guide for the Evening Standard and London Lite http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/music/gig-23...ng/gigReview.do It gets 3 out of 5 stars. Not great, but not that bad either. I was there on the same night, and I thought the audience was much more mixed! That audience description fitted the Birmingham (Monday 8th) gig, though, which, from what I saw, was 70% female and of those 70% 45+ in age.

O/S updates - Grace + Brand new track - 20/10 & 28/11
Hi, Prior. Erm, who did you request these from? I think the video to Grace can be downloaded from i-tunes and the calendar can be bought online (someone help me out here, what's the company called that publish these calendars?). Hope this helps :)

Jeff Buckley for christmas number one.
Two very different versions of Leonard Cohen's own Hallelujah: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=rf36v0epfmI This first one is a German TV performance (I jumped when I saw the presenter!), with a big backing choir. Lyrically it matches the well-known covers. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=kzWeN-bVDUc The second one is live in concert. Not such a big backing, naturally, but the lyrics are rather different! :o Nothing about King David! Actually, I'm an idiot, he just left out the first couple of verses. Still, quite different version.

Jeff Buckley for christmas number one.
If Leonard Cohen's 'Hallelujah' is so beautiful why not download that one instead? (Or is it not available?) IMO K D Lang's version is the best! My flatmate has it on CD, and as I don't usually do "ripping" I downloaded it yesterday. And at about 1am I downloaded Alexandra's version because I think she interprets it well (and she can't help the OTT instrumental/backing choir arrangement).

UK Christmas #1s (Singles)
Band Aid 20 had already been out for 2-3 weeks, though. Steve Brookstein, the first X Factor winner, is missing, I think he released just after Christmas? As did Michelle McMannus (Pop Idol 2). Also, if the people of Pop Idol 1 had realised the earning potential of the eventual winner and been as cynical and money grabbing back then as the X-Factor people are now, their show would have ended just before Christmas and Will's single would have smashed all records, possibly selling even more than the 1.1m units he did sell by Sunday 2 March 2002. Or Gareth might have won, as people might be more sentimental coming up to Christmas, and he would have held that record. Sorry, I digressed. ^_^

X Factor: The Final
Have downloaded Alexandra's single :) as well as If I Were A Boy. Great song, hadn't heard it before as I hardly ever listen to the radio. Hope it shoots up the chart, maybe even overtaking Leona's Run?
