The song quickly climbed to number 5 but then it started falling... until it left the Top 20 of the chart at the end of the year. However, now it has suddenly climbed back and reaches a new peak position of number 2 - 4 months after its debut!

  3. Euro Top Chart - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of January 5, 2019: 50 49 48 47 46 45 44 43 42 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood 41 40 39 Ariana Grande - Breathin' 3 Down 38 37 36 35 Bad Bunny & Drake - Mia 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 Little Mix & Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me 6 Down 27 Olly Murs - Moves 1 Up 26 Post Malone & Swae Lee - Sunflower 1 Up 25 24 LSD - Thunderclouds 1 Up 23 Marshmello & Bastille - Happier Stay => 22 Freya Ridings - Lost Without You 2 Up 21 20 Imagine Dragons - Natural 19 DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B - Taki Taki 1 Down 18 17 George Ezra - Shotgun 2 Up 16 15 Clean Bandit - Baby 3 Down 14 13 Jess Glynne - Thursday 2 Down 12 Panic! This is Mark Ronson's second number 1 in this chart after "Uptown Funk!", his collaboration with Bruno Mars. As for Miley Cyrus, "Nothing Breaks Like A Heart" is her very first chart-topper.
  4. The old MTV European Top 20 chart, which had been broadcast on MTV Europe for more than 20 years, ended in 2012. However, it looks like since January 4, 2014 some European "chart" has started being broadcast again on MTV Europe. The chart is broadcast on Fridays from 19:00 to 21:00 CET; on Saturdays from 11:00 to 13:00 CET; and on Sundays from 9:00 to 11:00 CET. Previously the chart seemed to be a Top 40 but in recent years MTV Europe sometimes has also shown positions between number 50 and number 41, indicating a Top 50. However, not all the positions are shown - some of them are skipped each week. The songs that are skipped on this "Euro Top Chart" seem to be one of two cases: either songs that aren't played on MTV Europe in general (especially if they don't have an official video yet); or when an artist has more than one song in the chart, not all are shown. It's also notable that the upper part of this chart is basically the same as the "Euro Top 20" chart that is broadcast on MTV Italy.
  5. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of December 29, 2018: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 27 26 25 24 23 Marshmello & Bastille - Happier 22 Shawn Mendes - In My Blood 21 Jax Jones - Breathe 20 Loud Luxury - Body 19 Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper - Shallow 18 Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside 17 Jonas Blue - Rise 16 Sigala & Paloma Faith - Lullaby 15 Marshmello & Anne-Marie - FRIENDS 14 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me 13 Jess Glynne - I'll Be There 12 Anne-Marie - 2002 11 Ariana Grande - No Tears Left To Cry 10 David Guetta & Sia - Flames 9 Tom Walker - Leave A Light On 8 Eminem & Ed Sheeran - River 7 Maroon 5 - Girls Like You 6 Justin Timberlake & Chris Stapleton - Say Something 5 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises 4 Portugal. The Man - Feel It Still 3 Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato - Solo 2 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss 1 George Ezra - Shotgun Just like last year, during the last week of this year MTV Europe broadcast a special edition of the chart - for the whole year 2018! Some of the inclusions are questionable as they weren't really among the most successful songs in this chart in 2018... On the other hand, there are some notable omissions - mainly songs that reached number 1. Here are the chart-toppers from this year which weren't included in this edition: "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran; "Havana" by Camila Cabello; "Strangers" by Sigrid (yes, it really reached number 1!); "These Days" by Rudimental and Jess Glynne (which should have been in the Top 3 of this edition); "For You" by Liam Payne and Rita Ora; "Paradise" by George Ezra; "Freaky Friday" by Lil' Dicky and Chris Brown; "Nice For What" by Drake; "God Is A Woman" by Ariana Grande; "In My Feelings" by Drake; and "Sweet But Psycho" by Ava Max. And then we come to the most interesting part - the song at number 2. For some reason MTV Europe refused to play "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa for almost its whole chart run - they only played it during 2 weeks at the end end of its run when it was at number 14 and number 16, respectively. Before that "One Kiss" had spent months in the Top 10, including 2 weeks at the top - yet the sad fact remains that MTV Europe never played it at number 1 (they skipped the number 1 position during those 2 editions)... Well, perhaps MTV Europe's playing the song as the number 2 in the edition of the chart for the whole 2018 is some kind of an apology!
  6. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of December 22, 2018: 40 Khalid - Better 39 Maroon 5 - Girls Like You 38 37 Shawn Mendes - Lost In Japan 3 Down 36 Ariana Grande - Breathin' 3 Down 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 Olly Murs - Moves 9 Down 27 Post Malone & Swae Lee - Sunflower 1 Up 26 Jonas Blue & Liam Payne - Polaroid 18 Down 25 LSD - Thunderclouds 1 Down 24 Freya Ridings - Lost Without You 1 Down 23 Marshmello & Bastille - Happier 22 Little Mix & Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me 2 Down 21 James Arthur - Empty Space Stay => 20 19 George Ezra - Shotgun 5 Down 18 DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B - Taki Taki 7 Down 17 16 15 Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes 3 Down 14 13 12 Clean Bandit - Baby 5 Up 11 Jess Glynne - Thursday 4 Down 10 Dean Lewis - Be Alright 9 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me 4 Down 8 7 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises 5 Down 6 Halsey - Without Me 7 Up 5 James Arthur & Anne-Marie - Rewrite The Stars 4 Ariana Grande - Thank U, Next 3 Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper - Shallow Stay => 2 1 Ava Max - Sweet But Psycho Stay => MTV Europe played a total of 25 songs from this edition of the chart. Extremely rarely have they played so many different songs from one edition of the chart! The lowest number of songs I have seen MTV Europe play is 21; the highest is 26 (which I think only happened once).
  7. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of December 15, 2018: 50 49 48 47 46 45 44 43 42 Loud Luxury - Body 41 40 Bad Bunny & Drake - Mia 39 38 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood 3 Down 37 36 35 34 Shawn Mendes - Lost In Japan 2 Up 33 Ariana Grande - Breathin' 2 Down 32 31 30 29 28 Post Malone & Swae Lee - Sunflower 1 Up 27 26 25 24 LSD - Thunderclouds 23 Freya Ridings - Lost Without You Stay => 22 21 James Arthur - Empty Space 8 Down 20 Little Mix & Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me 4 Down 19 Olly Murs - Moves 3 Up 18 17 Clean Bandit - Baby 1 Up 16 15 Imagine Dragons - Natural 14 George Ezra - Shotgun 13 Halsey - Without Me 2 Down 12 Panic! 8. What's funny is that during the whole time this song titled "Happier" spent in the chart, MTV Italy pretended that it was the song by Ed Sheeran - while it was actually the one by Marshmello and Bastille. The "Happier" by Ed Sheeran did appear in MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" but that happened months ago and the song didn't even reach the Top 20...
  9. When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe didn't play "Natural" by Imagine Dragons. "Shallow" by Lady GaGa and Bradley Cooper actually climbs 2 places up.
  10. "Let You Love Me" by Rita Ora returns to number 1 - this is its third (nonconsecutive) week there. Now the song has had 3 separate runs at the top. "Anywhere" also spent 3 weeks at number 1 but all of them were consecutive; while Rita's duet with Liam Payne, "For You", spent just a single week at the top.
  11. Interestingly, the number 5 in the corresponding edition of MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" is "Empty Space" by James Arthur. Each song from number 5 and below is a position lower respectively - "Thunderclouds" by LSD is at number 20. And then "All I Am" by Jess Glynne is at number 23. There are 2 other songs between "Thunderclouds" and "All I Am" - "Breathin'" by Ariana Grande at number 21; and "Youngblood" by 5 Seconds Of Summer at number 22.
  12. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of November 24, 2018: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 Mumford & Sons - Guiding Light 31 Bad Bunny & Drake - Mia 2 Down 30 Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water 29 28 MK - Back & Forth Stay => 27 Jason Derulo & David Guetta - Goodbye 11 Down 26 Loud Luxury - Body 7 Down 25 24 Olly Murs - Moves 23 Jess Glynne - All I Am 10 Down 22 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood 1 Down 21 Ariana Grande - Breathin' 20 LSD - Thunderclouds 3 Down 19 18 17 Silk City & Dua Lipa - Electricity 16 15 Freya Ridings - Lost Without You 7 Down 14 13 Halsey - Without Me 12 Imagine Dragons - Natural Stay => 11 Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes 1 Down 10 Dean Lewis - Be Alright 3 Down 9 DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B - Taki Taki Stay => 8 Little Mix & Nicki Minaj - Woman Like Me 3 Down 7 6 5 James Arthur - Empty Space 4 Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper - Shallow 2 Down 3 Jonas Blue & Liam Payne - Polaroid 37 Up 2 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me 1 Down 1 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises 3 Up "Goodbye" by Jason Derulo is something like a "cover" of "Time To Say Goodbye" by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. That famous duet was a huge hit around Europe... yet it has never appeared in MTV Europe's European chart. I was ready to swear that the 40-3 jump of "Polaroid" is the biggest in the history of the chart... but it turns out that it only equals the record. "Play That Song" by Train also went 37 places up (44-7) in the chart of February 18, 2017! And "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith is back at number 1 for a sixth (nonconsecutive) week - a total accumulated over 4 separate runs at the top. As a matter of fact, only one song has had more separate runs at number 1 in this chart - 5! - "Alors On Danse" by Stromae achieved it in 2010.
  13. Shockingly, "Let You Love Me" by Rita Ora returns to number 1, achieving a second week at the top. I must admit that the song is doing better across Europe now... but still definitely not enough for the number 1 spot!
  14. MTV Europe has changed its schedule. Now the "Euro Top Chart" is broadcast from 19:00 to 21:00 CET on Friday; from 11:00 to 13:00 CET on Saturday; and from 9:00 to 11:00 CET on Sunday. As Euphorique noted, MTV Europe refuse to play "In My Mind" by Dynoro and Gigi D'Agostino. Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20", the song has spent months in the chart, climbing as high as number 3 (it's actually at number 3 in this latest edition of the chart as well)... yet MTV Europe never played it! However, this situation is different because "In My Mind" doesn't have an official video. Still, MTV Europe have shown that they can find a solution in such cases at least once before. "Let Me Love You" by DJ Snake and Justin Bieber spent 4 weeks at the top of this chart while it still didn't have an official video. And MTV Europe played some video for "Let Me Love You" - I'm not sure what the status of that video is but it seemed to include parts from Justin Bieber's video for "I'll Show You"... "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith returns to number 1 - this is its fifth (nonconsecutive) week there. Now the song has had 3 separate runs at the top.
  15. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of November 3, 2018: 50 49 48 47 46 45 Charli XCX & Troye Sivan - 1999 44 43 42 41 Tyga & Offset - Taste 40 39 The Chainsmokers - Side Effects 38 37 36 35 Maroon 5 - Girls Like You 4 Down 34 33 Avril Lavigne - Head Above Water 7 Down 32 31 30 Mumford & Sons - Guiding Light 29 28 27 Jonas Blue - Rise 3 Down 26 Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato - Solo 25 24 Olly Murs - Moves 23 22 21 20 19 Silk City & Dua Lipa - Electricity 5 Down 18 Imagine Dragons - Natural 17 16 DJ Snake, Selena Gomez, Ozuna & Cardi B - Taki Taki 15 George Ezra - Shotgun 7 Down 14 13 Panic! At The Disco - High Hopes 1 Down 12 Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside 5 Down 11 Loud Luxury - Body 5 Up 10 LSD - Thunderclouds 4 Down 9 Jess Glynne - All I Am 1 Up 8 Dean Lewis - Be Alright 1 Up 7 Freya Ridings - Lost Without You 4 Up 6 5 Marshmello & Bastille - Happier Stay => 4 3 Rita Ora - Let You Love Me 1 Down 2 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises 1 Up 1 Lady GaGa & Bradley Cooper - Shallow Stay => According to MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, "Taste" by Tyga and Offset spent several weeks in the Top 20 a few weeks ago... However, until now MTV Europe refused to play the song. They have only played it for the first time now, when it's already outside the Top 40!
  16. Sometimes there are extremely mysterious appearances in this chart. For example, as far as I know, "Pressure" by Muse hasn't appeared in the singles chart of any European country... yet somehow it's at number 39 here! "Shallow" becomes Lady GaGa's seventh number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart after "Poker Face", "Bad Romance", "Telephone", "Alejandro", "Born This Way" and "The Edge Of Glory". When it comes to Bradley Cooper - I'm not sure which people count as mainly actors and not singers but, for example, Nicole Kidman reached the top at the beginning of 2002 with her duet with Robbie Williams "Somethin' Stupid".
  17. When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe played "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5 at number 23; "Natural" by Imagine Dragons at number 19; "Solo" by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato at number 17; and "Thunderclouds" by LSD at number 13. "Promises" by Calvin Harris and Sam Smith returns to the number 1 spot for a fourth week there. And with "Shallow" Lady GaGa reaches the Top 2 of the chart for the first time since the end of 2011, when "Marry The Night" peaked at number 2.
  18. There seems to be a tiny difference between this edition of the chart and the corresponding edition of MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart. In MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart "Head Above Water" by Avril Lavigne is at number 15 while here it's at number 16. Otherwise, this is Avril Lavigne's first appearance in this chart since "What The Hell" in 2011. We also have a new number 1! "Let You Love Me" becomes Rita Ora's third chart-topper after "Anywhere" and her duet with Liam Payne "For You". At least so far, "Let You Love Me" is an even less deserving number 1 than "Anywhere" (it's not really having a lot of success around Europe)...
  19. IMPORTANT: This weekend I won't be able to watch the "Euro Top Chart". Would sdizda or someone else be so kind to watch the chart and write it down? MTV Europe broadcasts it 3 times during the weekend: from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Saturday; from 19:00 to 21:00 CET on Saturday; and from 12:00 to 14:00 CET on Sunday.
  20. sdizda, did you manage to watch the chart last week?
  21. IMPORTANT: This weekend I won't be able to watch the "Euro Top Chart". Would sdizda or someone else be so kind to watch the chart and write it down? 22. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of September 22, 2018: 40 39 38 37 36 Muse - Something Human 35 Jax Jones & Mabel - Ring Ring 6 Down 34 33 Rudimental, Major Lazer & Anne-Marie - Let Me Live 32 31 30 29 The Chainsmokers - Side Effects 2 Up 28 DJ Khaled & Justin Bieber - No Brainer 6 Down 27 Cheat Codes & Little Mix - Only You 26 25 24 23 DJ Tiesto, Dzeko & Preme - Jackie Chan 1 Up 22 Kygo & Imagine Dragons - Born To Be Yours 1 Down 21 Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman 2 Down 20 19 18 5 Seconds Of Summer - Youngblood 4 Down 17 Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams 1 Up 16 Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind 4 Down 15 14 13 Martin Garrix & Khalid - Ocean 3 Down 12 Jonas Blue - Rise 3 Down 11 Drake - In My Feelings Stay => 10 Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato - Solo 3 Down 9 David Guetta & Anne-Marie - Don't Leave Me Alone 8 Up 8 Jess Glynne - All I Am Stay => 7 Maroon 5 - Girls Like You 2 Down 6 LSD - Thunderclouds 5 Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside 1 Up 4 George Ezra - Shotgun Stay => 3 2 Loud Luxury - Body 1 Down 1 Calvin Harris & Sam Smith - Promises "Promises" becomes Sam Smith's third number 1 in the chart after "Writing's On The Wall" and "Too Good At Goodbyes". What about Calvin Harris? His previous chart-toppers include 2 collaborations with Rihanna - "We Found Love" and "This Is What You Came For"; as well as "Summer", "Blame" (supposedly - I missed that edition of the chart), "How Deep Is Your Love", "Feels"... and then we come to the big controversy - "One Kiss", which reached the top in 2 nonconsecutive weeks... Yet MTV Europe never played it at number 1 - they just skipped it on both occasions! Oh, and I find it totally farcical that Anne-Marie appears simultaneously in the chart with 2 different songs where she sings "LEAVE ME ALONE, let me live my life" in one song and "DON'T LEAVE ME ALONE" in the other one!
  23. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of September 15, 2018: 50 49 48 47 Janet Jackson - Made For Now 46 45 44 43 42 41 Robin Schulz & Piso 21 - Oh Child 40 Matt Simons - We Can Do Better 1 Down 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 The Chainsmokers - Side Effects 2 Down 30 29 Jax Jones & Mabel - Ring Ring 4 Down 28 Panic! Interestingly, Panic! At The Disco also appear in the chart for the first time since 2008, when "Nine In The Afternoon" became their only song to reach MTV Europe's European chart... until now! At that time their name was Panic At The Disco (without an exclamation mark). It's nice to see MTV Europe play songs which haven't reached the UK singles chart but are having success in other European countries - like "Oh Child" by Robin Schulz this time. On the other hand, I'll never approve of songs appearing in this chart if they can only be found in the UK (and Irish) singles chart - for example, "Lost Without You" by Freya Ridings...
  24. "Body" by Loud Luxury becomes one of the most shocking number ones in the history of the chart... At least it's more successful in Europe than "Strangers" by Sigrid!... Yes, you read that correctly. "Strangers" by Sigrid - a song which only reached number 6 in Norway, number 7 in Ireland and number 10 in the UK... and didn't appear in the singles chart of any other European country... Yet somehow it managed to spend not one but TWO weeks at the top of this chart!?...
  25. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of September 1, 2018: 40 39 38 37 The Chainsmokers - Side Effects 36 Liam Payne & J Balvin - Familiar 35 34 Anne-Marie - 2002 2 Down 33 32 Matt Simons - We Can Do Better 31 30 29 28 Years And Years - If You're Over Me 27 26 Jess Glynne - I'll Be There 11 Down 25 24 Rudimental, Major Lazer & Anne-Marie - Let Me Live 1 Down 23 22 David Guetta & Sia - Flames Stay => 21 20 Martin Garrix & Khalid - Ocean 19 Ariana Grande - God Is A Woman 11 Down 18 Jax Jones & Mabel - Ring Ring 17 Juice WRLD - Lucid Dreams 16 Cheat Codes & Little Mix - Only You 6 Down 15 DJ Khaled & Justin Bieber - No Brainer 13 Down 14 Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss 13 12 11 DJ Tiesto, Dzeko & Preme - Jackie Chan Stay => 10 Dennis Lloyd - Nevermind 9 Up 9 Jonas Blue - Rise 3 Down 8 7 Maroon 5 - Girls Like You 6 Benny Blanco, Halsey & Khalid - Eastside 14 Up 5 Clean Bandit & Demi Lovato - Solo 1 Down 4 3 Loud Luxury - Body 2 Drake - In My Feelings 1 Down 1 George Ezra - Shotgun 2 Up I'm not sure whether this is a revolution... but at the very least it's a big evolution! Lately, MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" hasn't been in a good state. Too many songs from the lower reaches of the chart were being played, even some songs placed below the Top 40. At the same time, MTV Europe just refused to play some huge hits in the chart - including a number 1!... Fortunately, all this changes in this edition of the chart, which marks a return to the good old days of 2014-2015, when most of the songs played were from the upper part of the chart and in the majority of cases high-placed songs were skipped only if they didn't have an official video. What this means is that MTV Europe has finally played some songs which first appeared in the chart MONTHS ago but for mysterious reasons MTV Europe refused to play them week after week and month after month... One such example is "Girls Like You" by Maroon 5, which (judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart) has been in the Top 20 for more than 2 months. An even sadder example is "If You're Over Me" by Years And Years, which also spent 2 months in the Top 20 of the chart... but MTV Europe is only playing it now that it's left the Top 20!... And, of course, we come to the most absurd case. Probably the only number 1 which MTV Europe didn't play while it was at the top... "One Kiss" by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa. "Nice For What" by Drake spent 2 (consecutive) weeks at the top earlier in the year. While MTV Europe shamefully skipped the song during its first week at the top, they corrected themselves the following week when they did play it at number 1... "One Kiss" didn't have such luck. It spent 2 nonconsecutive weeks at the top... and in both of those editions, MTV Europe just skipped it!!! In fact, "One Kiss" has been in the chart for more than 4 months... Mercifully, MTV Europe have finally played it - but it's not in the Top 10 anymore... and it didn't get the honour of being played at number 1 - although there was absolutely no reason why the video shouldn't be played back then. At least I have no idea what could be so controversial about that video... Still, there are other remarkable things about this edition of the chart, too. While there have been bigger falls from number 2, it was somewhat surprising to see "No Brainer" go 2-15... And "Shotgun" by George Ezra returns to number 1 again - this is its fifth (nonconsecutive) week there. The song has had 3 separate runs at the top. I really, REALLY hope that this is what the chart is going to look like in the future!
