  1. By climbing to number 3, "Paradise" becomes George Ezra's highest-peaking song in the chart. "Budapest" peaked at number 9 and "Blame It On Me" - at number 6. It's interesting that MTV Europe played "Pray For Me" by The Weeknd and Kendrick Lamar. The song doesn't have an official video (yet) so MTV Europe played the lyric video - something which they have done very rarely for other songs.
  2. This is the seventh time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. "These Days" returns to the top - now it has spent a total of 3 weeks there (in 3 separate runs). And Portugal. The Man have an extremely impressive achievement! MTV Europe first played "Feel It Still" during the chart of September 9, 2017 - the song was at number 35 then. Now, MORE THAN 6 MONTHS - HALF A YEAR - LATER, it climbs to a new peak position - number 2!
  3. "Say Something" becomes Justin Timberlake's eighth number 1 in MTV Europe's European chart after "Where Is The Love?" (with Black Eyed Peas), "Signs" (with Snoop Dogg), "SexyBack", "My Love", "Ayo Technology" (with 50 Cent), "4 Minutes" (with Madonna) and "Can't Stop The Feeling!".
  4. "Havana" by Camila Cabello actually climbs 2 places up. This is the sixth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. Three songs from the soundtrack of "Fifty Shades Freed" appear simultaneously in the chart - "For You" at number 2, "Capital Letters" at number 35 and "Heaven" at number 50. And it's great that MTV Europe started playing "River" by Eminem and Ed Sheeran and "God's Plan" by Drake! They have skipped quite a lot of successful songs completely in the past...
  5. "Sick Boy" by The Chainsmokers actually climbs 1 place up. This is the fifth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. "For You" becomes Rita Ora's second chart-topper after "Anywhere". At the same time, Liam Payne becomes the third member of One Direction to score a number 1 in this chart after Harry Styles (with "Sign Of The Times") and Niall Horan (with "Slow Hands"). Zayn peaked at number 2 with three different singles - "Pillowtalk", "I Don't Wanna Live Forever" and "Dusk Till Dawn". Finally, Louis Tomlinson hasn't managed to enter the Top 10 of the chart yet...
  6. This is the fourth time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. "These Days" is Rudimental's first number 1 in the chart. Jess Glynne last reached the top with "Don't Be So Hard On Yourself". And Kylie Minogue appears for the first time since "Higher", her duet with Taio Cruz in 2011.
  7. By reaching number 4 the previous week, "I Know You" became Craig David's third highest-peaking single in the history of MTV Europe's European chart. 2 of his singles had a peak position of number 3 - "Seven Days" and his duet with Sting "Rise And Fall".
  8. There have been some extremely surprising number ones in the history of MTV Europe's European chart... An example of a baffling chart-topper from last year (2017) is "Slow Hands" by Niall Horan. ...However, I'll have to dig really deep in the archives of the chart to check whether there has EVER been a less deserving number 1 than "Strangers" by Sigrid. I mean, of course, it's completely possible that the single will become massive in Europe in the upcoming weeks and months. But at the time it reached the top, it had appeared in the singles charts of just 3 European countries - the UK (with a peak position of number 10), Ireland (with a peak position of number 13) and Sigrid's native country, Norway (with a peak position of number 18)... Such a performance shouldn't be enough even for the Top 20 of this chart - let alone the number 1 spot!...
  9. This is the third time in 2018 that MTV Europe played songs placed below the Top 40. And they finally played "Havana" by Camila Cabello! Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, the song has already spent 4 months in the chart, even climbing as high as number 2 several times... and MTV Europe still skipped it the whole time! It seems like for some songs the only chance to get played by MTV Europe is to reach number 1!...
  10. sdizda, are you able to watch the chart on MTV Europe now? "Whatever It Takes" by Imagine Dragons falls 4 places down. When I watched this edition of the chart, MTV Europe didn't play "Him & I" by G-Eazy and Halsey (which you saw at number 29). Not that I'm surprised - they broadcast each edition of the chart 3 times and sometimes there are differences between the different broadcasts - some songs are played just during a particular broadcast or even the positions shown are different!...

When it came time for the number 1, MTV Europe played the video for the duet version of "Perfect" between Ed Sheeran and Andrea Bocelli.
  12. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of January 6, 2018: 50 49 48 47 46 45 44 43 42 41 French Montana - Unforgettable 40 Liam Payne - Bedroom Floor 39 Martin Garrix & David Guetta - So Far Away 38 G-Eazy & Halsey - Him & I 37 36 Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? The same happens in the very first edition of 2018. Sometimes MTV Europe start playing a song a long time after it has reached its peak position. Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20" chart, "What Lovers Do" by Maroon 5 reached number 5 in November 2017... Yet for some reason MTV Europe refused to play the song. They finally do it now for the first time - months later, when "What Lovers Do" isn't even in the Top 20 anymore... Usually the UK singles chart has a huge influence on this chart. So it's nice to see MTV Europe play songs like "So Far Away" by Martin Garrix and David Guetta or "Leave A Light On" by Tom Walker - they are having some success in certain European countries although they haven't appeared in the UK singles chart yet.
  13. The old MTV European Top 20 chart, which had been broadcast on MTV Europe for more than 20 years, ended in 2012. However, it looks like since January 4, 2014 some European "chart" has started being broadcast again on MTV Europe. The chart is broadcast on Saturdays from 12:00 to 14:00 CET and from 19:00 to 21:00 CET and on Sundays from 12:00 to 14:00 CET. The chart seems to be a Top 40 (although in 2017 MTV Europe sometimes also showed positions between number 50 and number 41, indicating a Top 50). However, not all the positions are shown - some of them are skipped each week. The songs that are skipped on this "Euro Top Chart" seem to be one of two cases: either songs that aren't played on MTV Europe in general (especially if they don't have an official video yet); or when an artist has more than one song in the chart, not all are shown. It's also notable that the upper part of this chart is basically the same as the "Euro Top 20" chart that is broadcast on MTV Italy.
  14. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of December 30, 2017: 40 39 38 37 36 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 28 Liam Payne - Strip That Down 27 26 Rag'n'Bone Man - Human 25 Little Mix - Touch 24 23 David Guetta & Justin Bieber - 2U 22 Katy Perry - Chained To The Rhythm 21 20 Clean Bandit & Zara Larsson - Symphony 19 18 Zayn & Sia - Dusk Till Dawn 17 Dua Lipa - New Rules 16 Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes 15 14 Jax Jones - You Don't Know Me 13 Shawn Mendes - There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back 12 Imagine Dragons - Thunder 11 Charlie Puth - Attention 10 French Montana - Unforgettable 9 Luis Fonsi & Daddy Yankee - Despacito 8 Rita Ora - Your Song 7 6 DJ Khaled & Rihanna - Wild Thoughts 5 Clean Bandit, Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - Rockabye 4 Harry Styles - Sign Of The Times 3 Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams & Katy Perry - Feels 2 Pink - What About Us 1 Ed Sheeran - Shape Of You Back in the good old days of the "classic" MTV European Top 20 - the period of the chart which lasted until 2009 - there was a tradition for the last week of each year. Then a special edition of the chart would be broadcast which showed the 20 most successful songs during the whole year (how accurate that edition was is another question). However, the last time MTV Europe played such a special edition of the chart was in 2006... Now, more than 10 years later, MTV Europe broadcast an edition of the chart for the whole year 2017!
  15. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of December 23, 2017: 50 Axwell & Ingrosso - More Than You Know 49 48 47 46 45 44 43 42 N*E*R*D* & Rihanna - Lemon 4 Down 41 Mabel - Finders Keepers Stay => 40 39 38 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Holy Mountain 2 Down 37 Avicii & Rita Ora - Lonely Together 36 Taylor Swift - ...Ready For It? 35 34 33 32 31 30 29 Dua Lipa - New Rules Stay => 28 27 Charlie Puth - How Long 4 Down 26 25 24 23 22 Band Aid 30 - Do They Know It's Christmas? 21 Naughty Boy & Beyoncé Knowles - Runnin' 9 Up 20 19 18 Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You 17 Portugal. There are some Christmas-themed songs from previous years in this edition of the chart. Just like last year, "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Last Christmas" make an appearance. Once again, MTV Europe played the So So Def Remix video from 2000 of "All I Want For Christmas Is You". And "Do They Know It's Christmas?" by Band Aid 30 is back for the first time since it topped the chart 3 years ago.
  16. "Runnin'" by Naughty Boy and Beyoncé Knowles peaked at number 3 in this chart in late 2015. The last time MTV Europe played the song was during the chart of February 13, 2016... ...But now "Runnin'" reappears in the chart at number 30! However, it turns out that this is not so random. A few months ago "Runnin'" did re-enter the singles charts in France, Switzerland and Spain - and climbed as high as number 2 in the French chart! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY THIS HAPPENED?
  17. There is an interesting difference between this edition of the chart and the corresponding edition of MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart". Here the number 12 is "Rockstar" by Post Malone. In the corresponding edition of MTV Europe's "Euro Top Chart" the number 12 is "Naked" by James Arthur.

Let's look at the history of the singles from Ed Sheeran's latest album. Surprisingly, first "Castle On The Hill" appeared at number 1 in the chart but spent just a single week there... because it was immediately replaced by "Shape Of You"! The latter stayed at the top for 7 weeks. Then came "Galway Girl", which "only" peaked at number 4... However, now "Perfect" becomes Ed Sheeran's third chart-topper from his current album!
  20. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of November 25, 2017: 50 49 48 47 46 Niall Horan - Too Much To Ask 45 44 Paloma Faith - Crybaby 6 Down 43 42 41 40 Logic - 1-800-273-8255 39 Martin Solveig & ALMA - All Stars 38 MK - 17 37 36 French Montana - Unforgettable 1 Down 35 34 33 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Holy Mountain Stay => 32 31 30 J Balvin & Willy William - Mi Gente 7 Down 29 Stefflon Don - Hurtin' Me 2 Down 28 27 Mabel - Finders Keepers 26 Kygo & Justin Jesso - Stargazing 2 Up 25 Dua Lipa - New Rules 3 Down 24 Khalid - Young, Dumb & Broke 4 Down 23 22 21 20 19 18 Liam Payne - Bedroom Floor 1 Down 17 Avicii & Rita Ora - Lonely Together 1 Down 16 15 N*E*R*D* & Rihanna - Lemon 3 Up 14 13 12 11 10 Portugal. Mabel, who appears at number 27 with "Finders Keepers", is Neneh Cherry's daughter. Neneh Cherry's last appearance in the chart (so far) was in 1996 - 21 years ago! - with "Woman". 2 years earlier she had a massive hit - her duet with Youssou N'Dour, "7 Seconds". It's nice to see MTV Europe play "Katchi". Judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20", Ofenbach's previous single "Be Mine" also reached the chart... but MTV Europe never played it! ...And it's not only that. They didn't show any of the songs placed between number 2 and number 5 in this edition of the chart. Those supposedly include "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran, "Havana" by Camila Cabello and "Silence" by Marshmello and Khalid. All of these 3 singles have music videos so I don't see the reason why MTV Europe is skipping them. After all, isn't the point of the chart to SHOW the current biggest hits?!...
  21. Euro Top 40 - (as broadcast on MTV Europe) Here is the chart of November 18, 2017: 50 49 48 47 46 Craig David - Heartline 17 Down 45 44 Calvin Harris & Kehlani - Faking It 43 42 41 Rudimental & James Arthur - Sun Comes Up 13 Down 40 39 38 Paloma Faith - Crybaby 11 Down 37 U2 - You're The Best Thing About Me 36 35 French Montana - Unforgettable 1 Down 34 33 Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Holy Mountain 32 31 30 29 Calvin Harris, Pharrell Williams & Katy Perry - Feels 4 Up 28 Kygo & Justin Jesso - Stargazing 2 Up 27 Stefflon Don - Hurtin' Me 4 Down 26 25 Taylor Swift - Look What You Made Me Do 24 23 J Balvin & Willy William - Mi Gente 22 Dua Lipa - New Rules 3 Down 21 20 Khalid - Young, Dumb & Broke 2 Down 19 18 N*E*R*D* & Rihanna - Lemon 17 Liam Payne - Bedroom Floor 16 Avicii & Rita Ora - Lonely Together 1 Down 15 14 13 12 11 Sam Smith - Too Good At Goodbyes Stay => 10 Portugal. N*E*R*D* are back in the chart after 13 years. They appeared a couple of times - with "She Wants To Move" (which puzzlingly went as high as number 2) and "Maybe". ...And this all happened in 2004 - a year before their collaborator in their current single "Lemon" made her debut in MTV Europe's European chart... Rihanna would go on to become the most successful artist in the history of the chart - no one else has scored as many number ones... Yet there is something even more remarkable in this edition of the chart - MTV Europe finally played "Mi Gente"! Although it could be said that it's offensively late - the song has already left the Top 20 and, judging by MTV Italy's "Euro Top 20", it peaked at number 3... It's a rare occasion to have a song not in English in this chart - and even rarer for the song to be in more than one non-English language! "Mi Gente" contains both Spanish and (a little) French. At the moment I can think of one other example - "Danza Kuduro" by Don Omar and Lucenzo, which was in both Spanish and Portuguese...

"Your Song" by Rita Ora reached number 2 in the chart earlier this year. Now "Anywhere" does one better by jumping from number 27 to number 1... The problem is that I don't think this is deserved (at least yet) - apart from the UK, the song isn't having success anywhere in Europe so far...

MTV Europe played just 8 songs from the Top 20 during this edition of the chart. I don't think this is acceptable. For example, I really don't understand why the keep on skipping CNCO's "Reggaeton Lento" when they could play the version that is a collaboration with Little Mix. After all, they did play both "Despacito" and "Subeme La Radio" - and their videos are the versions which are only in Spanish!...
