MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Actually, "Back In Time" by Pitbull and "Whistle" by Flo Rida are re-entries. Anyway, compare this to this edition of djcharly's Euro Singles Hot 100: http://www.charly1300.com/eurosingles/eurosingles238.htm The differences are extremely small, one of the most notable is that "Euphoria" by Loreen is number 7 there. When the chart-makers of MTV European Top 20 copied the chart, they placed "Euphoria" at number 11 because it doesn't have an official video yet so they wouldn't be able to play it when they broadcast the Top 10 of the chart on MTV Europe...

Yes, it looks like this time the chart-makers again suffered from a lack of inspiration... I hope there will be much more movement in the next edition... and, most importantly - that it will be an ORIGINAL chart and not a copy!

The Non No 1 thread
"Never Gonna Leave Your Side" may not be remembered but it's my favourite song of 2003! At the time some people called it a copy of "If You're Not The One" but to me it's a lot better.

On the one hand, it's wonderful that djcharly's Euro Singles Hot 100 is so influential that even Europe's biggest music channel is using it... On the other hand, I want MTV Europe's chart to really be done by MTV Europe and not copied from someone else! You can compare this time as well: http://www.charly1300.com/eurosingles/eurosingles236.htm The only difference is that for some inexplicable reason MTV Europe has omitted "Princess Of China" - which was in the chart last week!?...

"Satellite" by Lena debuted straight at number 1 in MTV European Top 20... but that was in the new period of the chart (since 2009), when this wasn't such a legendary occurrence... Before that "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi reached number 13 in 2006... And the previous Eurovision song in European Top 20 was back in 1998 - "Diva" by Dana International reached number 10. Regarding Eurovision winners played on MTV Europe - all the ones between 2003 and 2006 were played. I remember seeing on MTV Europe all of "Everyway That I Can" by Sertab, "Wild Dances" by Ruslana, "My Number One" by Elena Paparizou and "Hard Rock Hallelujah" by Lordi. About the latest edition of European Top 20 - you just have to look at this edition of Euro Singles Top 100, the chart made by my friend djcharly (Charles Pons): http://www.charly1300.com/eurosingles/eurosingles235.htm

Yes, Luca Hänni is the first! We'll see what happens in future years... Euphorique, I have always said that I'm against songs entering European Top 20 if they have only had success in the UK (and Ireland) so for me this is the same case. If a song is only doing well in the German-speaking countries, I consider this "local" success, which is not enough to appear in a EUROPEAN chart. Just like it wouldn't be enough if, for example, a French idol scored a number 1 in France, Wallonia and Switzerland... A hypothetical song that reaches number 12 in Germany, number 9 in Austria, number 18 in Switzerland and number 7 in the Netherlands is much more deserving of charting in MTV European Top 20 than "Don't Think About Me" by Luca Hänni, I think. Just like "Femme Like U" by K-Maro deserved to make it to the chart (alas, it didn't do it in reality) because it managed to have success outside of the French-speaking countries.

Here is the latest edition of European Top 20: 20 Alex Clare - Too Close NEW 19 Pitbull - Back In Time NEW 18 Sean Paul - She Doesn't Mind 7 Down 17 Justin Bieber - Boyfriend RE-ENTRY 16 Taio Cruz - There She Goes NEW 15 Maroon 5 - Payphone 4 Up 14 Luca Hänni - Don't Think About Me NEW 13 Far*East Movement & Justin Bieber - Live My Life 4 Down 12 Aura Dione - Friends 4 Up 11 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger 3 Down 10 DJ Antoine & The Beatshakers - Ma Chérie 3 Up 9 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 3 Up 8 Flo Rida & Sia - Wild Ones 2 Down 7 Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull - Dance Again 3 Up 6 Nicki Minaj - Starships 1 Up 5 Train - Drive By Stay => 4 Michel Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego! 2 Down 3 Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe 1 Up 2 Fun. - We Are Young 1 Up 1 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know Stay => Of course, the biggest shock is the debut of "Don't Think About Me" by Luca Hänni. As I have said before, I don't approve of songs entering MTV European Top 20 if they have only had success in the German-speaking part of Europe. Yes, "Don't Think About Me" became number 1 in all of Germany, Austria and Switzerland but to me that's still not enough - the song should appear in at least another European country's chart in order to make it to European Top 20! Seeing "Don't Think About Me" here reminds me of the beginning of last year when "Mignon Mignon" by René La Taupe appeared in MTV European Top 20 (that was the copy of the last edition of the Eurochart)... But at least the situation with "Mignon Mignon" was funny because it was the first of that type of song to chart here (even "Axel F" by Crazy Frog has never been in this chart!)... Anyway, this edition of the chart looks quite nice otherwise! Come on, Fun., just one more step!

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Hmm... Maybe the chart-makers do read my commentary because this time they have shown that they can make an interesting chart! 6 entries and the chart as a whole seems to represent well what's going on across Europe... I'm just a little worried that the German-speaking countries might be having a little too much influence (the latest example is DJane HouseKat)...

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Hitstastic, it's a funny coincidence that you said the chart was "static" because in the past I actually thought your name was HitSTATIC... Otherwise, I completely agree with you. It looks like the chart-makers suffered from a complete lack of inspiration/imagination this time... The previous couple of editions were really good so hopefully the next chart will be more like them...

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
There are just two new entries but the chart is looking very, very nice! In fact, it looks like a perfect continuation of last week's edition - I think this is exactly what Jamse calls "flow"! K'naan reached number 1 in 2010 with "Wavin' Flag" but I have to say I wouldn't have expected to see him in European Top 20 again! And "Drive By" becomes Train's third number 4 hit after "Drops Of Jupiter" and "Hey, Soul Sister". Will they finally be able to enter the Top 3 this time?
-
MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
So of last week's 10 entries only one survived - "Drive By" by Train... the other 9 are out! And this week there are 10 entries as well - 8 re-entries and 2 new entries! I'm especially happy about one of them - "We Are Young" by Fun. I really hope it will be a future number 1!

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Let me first express my displeasure with the fact that the time when European Top is broadcast has been changed and now it's at 1:00 AM! I know that it's also broadcast at 12:00 PM before that but I'm not able to watch it at that time... And, even worse - this week they didn't actually broadcast the chart at 1:00 AM!... On the other hand, this week's edition is certainly remarkable - a total of 10 entries! 7 new entries and 3 re-entries! And yet I think the chart looks like a continuation of last week's chart, which is great. Also, I don't think it's a copy of any other European chart! When "Drops Of Jupiter" reached number 4 in 2001, I would never have guessed Train would be in the chart 11 years later! And "She Doesn't Mind" becomes Sean Paul's 4th number 2 in MTV European Top 20 after "Breathe", "We Be Burnin'" and "Got 2 Luv U". Will he finally score a number 1 with this single?

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
I find it interesting that years after DJ Bobo Swiss DJ's are once again having success in European Top 20 - DJ Antoine has already scored two hits with "Welcome To St. Tropez" and "Ma Chérie"... and now Mike Candys also makes a debut!
-
MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
...What more can I say? "Someone Like You" by Adele re-enters the chart for the 6th time, making this its 7th separate run in MTV European Top 20... I don't think this achievement will ever be beaten!

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
That edition from 2003 was a special one - there were 4 new entries! The last time there had been so many new entries was in the edition of May 6, 2000. I had started watching European Top 20 by then but I still wasn't writing down all the positions (nor had I started watching the whole Top 20) so I didn't realize there were actually 4 new entries back then... So I had to wait for almost 3 years to finally see 4 new entries in the chart... I was so happy!

They are at number 19 together with DJ Antoine. As far as I could understand, they are credited on the single because "Ma Chérie" is originally theirs.

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Amazing! It's really like in the old days! Unlike almost all of the recent editions of European Top 20, there are no new entries in the Top 10... In the past it was a special achievement to debut in the Top 10! Also, there are many entries between positions number 11 and number 20 - another thing that has been lacking nowadays... And what can I say when I see Aura Dione, DJ Antoine and The Beatshakers (the first Serbian artist in MTV European Top 20?)?... It seems like the chart is becoming more EUROPEAN! It's just a pity that Aura Dione's "Geronimo" never charted... Oh, and by re-entering this week, "Rolling In The Deep" by Adele improves its record as the longest stayer ever - now its total becomes 34 weeks in the chart!

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
THIS is something else! Not only have they posted the same chart on the MTV website as the Top 10 they broadcast on MTV Europe on Tuesday but there is an actual Bottom 10 as well! And, from what I can see, the chart doesn't seem to be a copy of any other chart (can anyone else check this as well?). That's one of the reasons I'll NEVER give up on MTV European Top 20 - however bad the situation might look at times, there's always hope that next week there is going to be a good edition of the chart!!!!!! It's magnificent that "Ai Se Eu Te Pego!" has reached number 1! If I'm not mistaken, this is the first song in Portuguese to top the chart since... "Lambada" by Kaoma in 1989! And Adele breaks a record again! "Someone Like You" re-enters the chart for the 5th time, making this its 6th separate run in European Top 20! Until now it shared the record with "Mr. Saxobeat" by Alexandra Stan, which had re-entered the chart 4 times... Oh, and let me just mention that "Someone Like You" made its debut here more than a year ago! sdizda, well done for finding the missing number 12! I'm just wondering where Markus has this information from... I guess I'll have to ask him! Euphorique, I don't seem to remember Nordic Top 5 on MTV Europe... On the other hand, I do remember the show where there were duels between videos... but I'm afraid I have forgotten its name.

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
Unfortunately, I only started watching MTV Europe in 2000 and at that time there was no Nordic Top 5... But if I had to guess, this video was probably taken from MTV Nordic (I didn't even know it was a separate channel in 1999)...

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
It's great that this week the chart posted on the MTV Europe website is the same as the Top 10 broadcast on MTV Europe! And it's even greater that "Ai Se Eu Te Pego!" finally appears officially in European Top 20! However, there is still the problem with the Bottom 10 of the chart. For the last couple of months, basically nothing has been happening between positions number 11 and number 20. It certainly looks like the person making the chart wants to make just a Top 10 that can be broadcast on MTV Europe and then doesn't bother at all with positions 11-20... And then there is the complete DISASTER. Since both last week's number 3 and number 12 have gone out of the chart, we have no way of knowing which of the two positions was occupied by "T.H.E." and, much more importantly, what song occupied the other position... Will this remain a mystery forever?!...

And I was thinking things were getting better... Here is the Top 10 they broadcast on MTV Europe on Tuesday, March 6: 1 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know 2 Flo Rida & Sia - Wild Ones 3 Dappy - Rockstar 4 DJ Fresh & Rita Ora - Hot Right Now 5 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 6 Jessie J - Domino 7 David Guetta & Nicki Minaj - Turn Me On 8 Will.I.Am, Jennifer Lopez & Mick Jagger - T.H.E. 9 Cover Drive - Twilight 10 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight If they had posted this on the MTV Europe website + positions 11-20 that showed some movement, the chart would have been quite nice... If only...

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
The chart they broadcast on MTV Europe on Tuesday was actually the Top 10 of last week's chart from MTV Europe's website. And here is what they posted on MTV Europe's website as the latest edition of the chart: 20 Bruno Mars - It Will Rain Stay => 19 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain Stay => 18 Coldplay - Paradise Stay => 17 Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts Stay => 16 LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem Stay => 15 Cobra Starship & Sabi - You Make Me Feel... Stay => 14 Avicii - Levels Stay => 13 Beyoncé Knowles - Love On Top Stay => 12 Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger Stay => 11 Ed Sheeran - Drunk Stay => 10 Lana Del Rey - Video Games RE-ENTRY 9 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger 1 Down 8 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight 1 Up 7 Pitbull & Chris Brown - International Love Stay => 6 Cover Drive - Twilight 4 Down 5 Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do The Hump Stay => 4 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium Stay => 3 Will.I.Am, Jennifer Lopez & Mick Jagger - T.H.E. Stay => 2 Jessie J - Domino 4 Up 1 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know Stay => The chart makers really seem to be lacking imagination (or inspiration) right now... By the way, "Stereo Hearts" by Gym Class Heroes and Adam Levine is spending an 8th consecutive week at number 17!

And yet again they broadcast a different chart on MTV Europe than the one posted on MTV Europe's website! But as boring as the latter one is, this time it's preferable to what they broadcast on MTV Europe on Tuesday, February 21: 1 Adele - Rolling In The Deep 2 Sean Paul & Alexis Jordan - Got 2 Luv U 3 Michel Telo - Ai Se Eu Te Pego! 4 Flo Rida - Good Feeling 5 Coldplay - Paradise 6 T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen - 5 O'Clock 7 Enrique Iglesias & Nicole Scherzinger - Heartbeat 8 David Guetta & Usher - Without You 9 Bruno Mars - Just The Way You Are 10 Rihanna & Calvin Harris - We Found Love ...At least "Ai Se Eu Te Pego!" was included...

MTV Europe Euro Top 20 2012 / MTV Italy Euro Top 20 2012
I'm not happy - once again they broadcast a different chart on MTV Europe than the one posted on MTV Europe's website! Not to mention that the chart they broadcast consisted of just 9 songs once again. Here is the "Top 9" that was broadcast on MTV Europe on Tuesday, February 14: 1 Jessie J - Domino 2 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 3 Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do The Hump 4 Will.I.Am, Jennifer Lopez & Mick Jagger - T.H.E. 5 Cover Drive - Twilight 6 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger 7 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight 8 Lloyd & Andre 3000 - Dedication To My Ex 9 Pitbull & Chris Brown - International Love When they broadcast "Domino", I expected that to be the number 2 and then the number 1 should have followed - I was sure it would be "Somebody That I Used To Know" by Gotye. But then the chart ended... I still think "Somebody That I Used To Know" was supposed to be the number 1, it just wasn't played! About the chart they posted on MTV Europe's website - they are showing "Drunk" by Ed Sheeran as climbing from number 13 but it's actually a new entry since "Lego House" was at number 13 last week... The only good thing is that shortly after broadcasting European Top 9, they played "Ai Se Eu Te Pego!" on MTV Europe! Since they are actually playing the video, maybe it may enter the chart someday...

Yes, now I have also seen the "music video" of "Turning Tables" that's actually a live performance. What about "Set Fire To The Rain" - do music TV channels play a live performance of it as a music video as well? tsetsi hasn't posted for a while so I'll post the latest three editions of European Top 20 as they were shown on MTV Europe's website: 20 LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem 13 Down 19 Katy Perry - The One That Got Away 13 Down 18 T-Pain, Wiz Khalifa & Lily Allen - 5 O'Clock Stay => 17 Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts Stay => 16 Bruno Mars - It Will Rain 13 Down 15 Cobra Starship & Sabi - You Make Me Feel... 1 Up 14 Rihanna - Man Down 1 Down 13 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain 2 Down 12 Lloyd & Andre 3000 - Dedication To My Ex Stay => 11 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know NEW 10 Lana Del Rey - Video Games 10 Up 9 Taio Cruz - Hangover RE-ENTRY 8 David Guetta & Usher - Without You 2 Up 7 Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger 2 Up 6 Coldplay - Paradise 8 Up 5 Avicii - Levels 10 Up 4 Flo Rida - Good Feeling 1 Up 3 LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It 1 Down 2 Adele - Someone Like You 6 Up 1 Rihanna & Calvin Harris - We Found Love Stay => The Top 10 they broadcast on MTV Europe that week was actually a Top 9 - they first played "Video Games" and then - each song from "Without You" to "We Found Love"... I don't know why they skipped "Hangover". 20 LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem Stay => 19 Katy Perry - The One That Got Away Stay => 18 LMFAO - Sexy And I Know It 15 Down 17 Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts Stay => 16 Bruno Mars - It Will Rain Stay => 15 Cobra Starship & Sabi - You Make Me Feel... Stay => 14 Avicii - Levels 9 Down 13 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain Stay => 12 Lana Del Rey - Video Games 2 Down 11 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know Stay => 10 Beyoncé Knowles - Love On Top NEW 9 Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger 2 Down 8 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight RE-ENTRY 7 Lloyd & Andre 3000 - Dedication To My Ex 5 Up 6 Coldplay - Paradise Stay => 5 Taio Cruz - Troublemaker NEW 4 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger NEW 3 Flo Rida - Good Feeling 1 Up 2 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium RE-ENTRY 1 Jessie J - Domino NEW This time they broadcast the same Top 10 on MTV Europe. However, on the MTV Europe website "Troublemaker" by Taio Cruz was shown as climbing from number 9, not as a new entry - as if it was at number 9 the week before and not "Hangover"... By the way, you might wonder where the previous week's Top 2 has gone... 20 Bruno Mars - It Will Rain 4 Down 19 Adele - Set Fire To The Rain 6 Down 18 Lana Del Rey - Video Games 6 Down 17 Gym Class Heroes & Adam Levine - Stereo Hearts Stay => 16 LMFAO - Party Rock Anthem 4 Up 15 Cobra Starship & Sabi - You Make Me Feel... Stay => 14 Avicii - Levels Stay => 13 Ed Sheeran - Lego House NEW 12 Lloyd & Andre 3000 - Dedication To My Ex 5 Down 11 Beyoncé Knowles - Love On Top 1 Down 10 Maroon 5 & Christina Aguilera - Moves Like Jagger 1 Down 9 Coldplay - Paradise 3 Down 8 Olly Murs - Dance With Me Tonight Stay => 7 Labrinth - Earthquake NEW 6 Flo Rida - Good Feeling 3 Down 5 Kelly Clarkson - Stronger 1 Down 4 Gotye - Somebody That I Used To Know 7 Up 3 Rizzle Kicks - Mama Do The Hump NEW 2 Jessie J - Domino 1 Down 1 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium 1 Up Once again, they broadcast the same Top 10 on MTV Europe... but I'm not happy that the chart is almost becoming a copy of the UK chart!
