Jonjo's Top 10 films of 2010!
erm wut, how many Hollywood actors do you think pick roles themselves? I'm pretty sure that 99% of them have agents who pick the films for them and they take what they are given if they give a good enough audition. Watch Adaptation and tell me Nic Cage can't act and you have no idea what acting is. Anyway you should be watching Adaptation not because Nic Cage is good in it but because it's directed by the best director ever. It's embassasing when you don't watch a Spike Jonze film just because Nic Cage is in it.

Nic Cage isnt actually a bad actor he just get's put into $h!te roles with $h!te directors, watch something where he isnt typecast and is under a good director and he is fantastic, he was absolutly brilliant in Adaptation directed by Spike Jonze. but yeah, Kick Ass, great film, well done for actually having a good film in your top 3.

The Inbetweeners
i agree it isnt as bad as everyone makes out, but it's still the worst of the 3 series.

I sort of felt the metaphor with the girl in the painting was overdone on purpose, like Amelie and the glass man both knew they were talking about her. I felt I could relate to her as a character (I am extremely shy), so I guess that just depends on who is watching. I'm not sure whether I agree that the first 30 minutes are best or not, they definatly bring us into the quirky world of the film in a successful way, possibly the msot interesting 30 minutes of the film, i definatly enjoyed her backstory alot, but it appears I might be in a minority that I think the bulk of the film was just as good. I think i can agree with your conclusion, the filmmaking of Amelie is superb and really shows how independent european cinema can be far more interesting (especially with expressionism) than your standard Hollywood, I'm not the biggest fan of Rom-Com's but I found this much more interesting than your average rom-com, the story wasnt 100% focused on the romance, more focused on the unique mind of Amelie, which is partly why I found it more interesting than the average rom-com, and also I think the fact it was an independent French film helped (fun filmmaking style, not in the boundries that Hollywood films have).

I enjoyed the film, definatly a lot of interesting things in the filmaking and the narrative style. The film was far more expressionistic than I realised at times, such as the rainfall when they got rid of the fish (the rain showing the mood of Ameile at the time). The whole filmmaking style of the film was very playful, and things such as the saturation, and much of the editing helped show the slight surrealness of the film which i'm sure was to put us in the imaginative mind of Ameile. The narrative style was also interesting, particulary the use of the narrator, who was heavily used at the start, and returned a few times throughout, you don't get many films, especially recent films that use a narrator much, and I think he was used to show Ameile's shyness, Ameile was too shy to push the story forward, so the narrator did it for us. I quite like the message of the film too, which my personal view of the message anyway is, that the small good things we do for people, can bring a lot of happiness, and even change view's on life (such as the first man, who we see with his grandson at the climax of the film). I also found the characters very interesting (particulary Ameile), they all had fairly developed personalities that were quirky yet realistic, I think the backing story (particulary with the likes/dislikes at the start) helped with this alot, as these are very specific things about one's personalities, yet something we don't see in most personalities in films, we never get told that a character likes popping bubble wrap in a film, yet it surprisingly makes the character in this much more interesting, it feels like in that small amount of time, we are invested into the characters mind, a very interesting technique of character development. Overall, I thought the filmmaking was top notch, Jeunet is a real talent, that combined with an interesting and unique story with a interesting lead character made a great film, 7.5/10

Super 8 - June 10
vpzUCA5i6zY I really thought I made a thread about this, as I gasmed when the trailer got released, anyway, this is a JJ Abrams being all secretive type project, produced by Steven Spielburg. So sort of the same style as Cloverfield in the way we have a trailer but no barely anything about it.

Paul - Febuary 18th
4opLEikXT5M didnt realise there wasnt a thread on this. New comedy starring and written by Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, but sadly not directed or written by Edgar Wright (writer/director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), so I doubt it will be that standard, but still should be pretty good.

ohhh, i was assuming English being dubbed, my bad, some things can be dubbed really good to be fair, but subtitles > bad dub any day of the week, i guess it can be to do with language as well, where some places an English dub can sound and look authentic where as Russian just wouldnt fit. and your username is annoying for PMs.

Pete and the Pirates - Winter 1
New track from forthcoming new album from one of my favourite local bands. Free download: http://petethepirates.bandcamp.com/ well addictive after a few listens, don't think it's quite as good as some of the stuff on their first album though.

Jonjo's Top 10 films of 2010!
yeah 'Eagle Vs Shark' isnt the best film ever, but I think jermaine is great in it, I do like the story though, it's a ncie little film but it isnt anything special. FOTC are so fantastic live, hopefully they will come back again, they did do 4 london shows are pretty big venues (2 at Hammersmith Apollo and 2 at Wembley Arena) within one month, on top of a full tour of the rest of the UK, all sold out, so clearly the demand for them is there, they were brilliant and there was plenty of improvising, as well as live only songs, and the best part being them ending with sugalumps and they came into the audience and took someone's camera and started taking photo's of each others 'sugalumps', and the security's, and then after Bret took Jermaine's Bret was like "oh no memory full" and Jermain goes "thats just how big my sugalumps are", and then Bret started climing over people putting his sugalump area in peoples faces. I've seen the trailer for Dinenr For Schmucks a few times and to be honest, looks f***ing terrible, you can tell it was just thrown together to cash in on Steve Carells recent popularity, and to be honest i'm not the biggest fan of him, I am tempted to watch it based on Jermaine having a role though.

yeah i know he was in Dinenr with Shmucks as well, he is being so wasted on these menial film roles. He should be writing stuff and doing lead performances (he was great in the lead role of Eagle Vs Shark, best thing about the film), if anything best thing I have ever seen jermaine clement do is perform live with Flight of the Conchords, some of his improvisation was even funnier than stuff on the tv show.

'Bombay' is at least 30% better when watching the video. but seriously, is that the best or worst music video ever, i can't tell.

Jonjo's Top 10 films of 2010!
i love how jonjo calls cinematic masterpiece 'Scott Pilgrim Vs The World' just "alright" then has Paranormal Activity 2 in the top 10. dear god. in the Despicable Me cast you say, Jemaine Clements, do you mean Clement? as in Jermaine from Flight of the Conchords? just he have a decent part? this could be an important factor in me watching the film despite it having Russell Brand in it.
