Leona performances on UK & US X Factor
I'm sorry but she lacks an incredible amount of emotion. She clearly hasn't a f***ing clue what this song is about at all. It's actually an abomination to music that she has gone on the x factor and performed this. I'm not saying she is a bad singer, but she really, really shouldn't have covered this. Maybe if she had been through even half of what Trent Reznor or Johnny Cash has she could put in a decent amount of emotion to make this a good performance rather than the incredibly bland performance she has put on. To be fair, it's alot better than the studio version though. But this is how you perform Hurt, he even has tears in his eyes during this performance: PP2Dgftin6M

This Is England '90
my thoughts from the last mini series stay the same. way to keep ruining the integrity of an otherwise classic film.

'Hurt' • First EP
Just because she is a singer and she likes to sing songs is not a valid enough reason to cover a song, especially not a song like Hurt. There has to be point because otherwise she will do it terribly and bland, which according to next post I have quoted that is true. I thought you had heard Hurt before? the reason why it is such a special song is because of how personal it is, and the great amount of emotion put in by Cash/Reznor. Lewis has been through f*** all in her life, she is a diva, Hurt has completely no relevance to her. People shouldn't just record songs because they like sing songs, there should be actual point, clealry you like trash such as Leona Lewis but I happen to think music is an art form, and should be treated as such, for points i've reiterated a thousand times already, Lewis can't perform this song with a decent amount of emotion to compare to the original and Cash's version, therefore her cover is pointless. People shouldn't record and release just any old crap, they should put in alot of effort and make a piece of art, not just sing songs cos they like it. I like playing guitar, doesn't mean I should start recording bad versions of Johnny B Goode. will have to agree to disagree on the ruining a song point, I understand what you're getting at but I disagree, surely a bad cover version of a classic song is a ruined version, obviously one can still enjoy the original but acts can still ruin a song by doing it badly enough. Thank you for confirming that my thoughts are true. could someone link me to where I can hear her cover? or will I want to be killing myself due to how bad it is, not due to the emotion put into the song. I remember the first time I saw NIN I literally had tears in my eyes when they closed with Hurt (and so did Trent), it was emotional and beautiful. I think it's going to hurt (no pun intended) me hearing such a bland emotionless version of it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Don't damn that, I know it's frustrating when you're under 18 but it means it's likely to be a much better film. Fincher has been very particular about not bowing to any studio pressure to make it less than a R rating (or 18 in the UK). the soundtrack is out today, I have the FLAC, not listened yet, I'm pretty tired right now so think I will save it for tomorrow to appreciate it more. if I can find a spare 3 hours that is.

'Hurt' • First EP
Well Trent released it upon the request of a highly respected producer to be performed by JOHNNY (f***ING) CASH, I think that is a bit of a massive difference in the song being covered by someone that hasn't an inch if the talent Rubin and Cash have, a musician who has been through an incredible amount aswell as being one of the greatest songwriters of all time, bit different having someone that legendary cover you than someone who's career only exists because of a TV show. If you seriously think Leona Lewis is in the same leauge as Johnny Cash then you clearly have some sort of mental disorder (I'm assuming you don't though, you seem an intelligent enough person). I think the point is not having been close to dying from drugs to cover the song, theres nothing wrong with reinterpretations, but Reznor and Cash have bith been through an incredible amount of shit, just listen to the pure raw emotion in both of their versions, the NIN version literally puts chills down my spine, the Cash version puts tears in my eyes, what has Leona Lewis exactly been through to make Hurt so personal and emotional that she can even come close to matching the other versions? Because if she can't out true emotion into Hurt and make it her own there is no real point in her covering it. No I didn't write it. Obviously different people have different opinions. I love covers personally, for some of the same reasons you do, especially hearing songs in different styles (people who cover songs exactly the same as the original get on my tits so much, don't they have any of their own artistic talent?), but with Hurt it's different, it's not just any other song. It's special, it's personal, it's emotional, it's beautiful, it's one of the greatest songs ever ruined, if it's not done right, it is easily ruined, a cover of a song like Hurt will not be doing it justice except in exceptional circumstances (such as Johnny Cash covering it). Some songs are best kept untouched.

'Hurt' • First EP
I'll be honest I was tired and purposefully being an arse then, I like tripping people up when they think it's originally by Johnny Cash. Which your post doesn't really suggest. Johnny's version is beautiful though, literally brings tears to my eyes. Hurt is my favourite song ever written. shame Leona Lewis is going to ruin it.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
yeah I found it like straight after on a torrent site anyway. it's up again now: http://www.nullco.com/GDT/ I think it's really really good, thinking this might top The Social Network soundtrack. Just the fact theres 3 hours of it makes me mega happy. and the fact Trent said 'we lost our minds and in the process made some of the most beautiful and disturbing music of our career'. Immigrant Song is far too amazing. As for the actual sampler, so beautiful, some of it gave me chills in my spine, definatly some great music for winter on there. I feel Trents got another Oscar coming. Really can't wait to hear the soundtrack in the actual film. I'm just generally excited for this film alot infact. David Fincher

going to my earlier rant at NME via twitter earlier. music is not about who is the coolest. I lose some respect for Gorilla vs Bear for ranking musicians by coolness.

can we bring the libertines forum back? i miss the off topic banter.

Fans of Pete Doherty, Babyshambles and The Libertines
sorry I just failed to read the question I thought you asked what was the best pete solo album and I got a bit confused. I thought Grace/Wastelands was good but it didn't strike me as too amazing, I definatly don't love it on the same level as The Libertines or babyshambles, I've never really been too bothered to give it many repeat listens but it does have some excellent tracks and I'd support him releasing future solo albums.

Fans of Pete Doherty, Babyshambles and The Libertines
How long have you been of fan of Pete Doherty? Since I became a fan of The Libertines in 2004, I think around the release of 'What Became of The Likely Lads' single, I was only about 12 at the time so hadn't discovered the band before that as was out of the loop. How did you become interested in him? Through The Libertines. Do you prefer him as a solo artist, or do you prefer him in babyshambles or the libertines? or do you just like all of his music? I like all of his music but The Libertines is by far my favourite. Whats your favourite Libertines album? Up The Bracket Whats your favourite Babyshambles album? Down in Albion Did you like Pete's solo album? erm he has only had one offical one so this question seems a bit silly, unless were counting all the unoffical bootlegs, in which case the one generally known as untitled by fans. Have you ever seen Pete live? (with libertines or babyshambles) if so how was this experience? and how many times have you seen him? Only seen him with The Libertines at their reuinion performance at Reading Festival last year, I'd say it was a magical experience, generally amazing to see him and Carl performing together, and so perfect, with a good 70,000 people all singing along in unison. Have you ever meet Pete? if so how did this make you feel? No, this doesn't make me feel anything, I'm sure it would be cool to meet him but I'm not really bothered. Has becoming a fan of Pete changed your life at all? (for example. made friends with other fans through forums or at gigs) I wouldn't say it's changed my life but I guess I became good friends with Grandwicky when we had a Buzzjack Libertines forum, and now I'd consider him a real life friend rather than someone I just know on the internet. How do you feel about his lyrics? Do you think he's a great song writer? I think he is a fantastic songwriter, he has some really creative and beautiful lyrics. Are you in a band? or aspire to be a musician? if so has Pete's music been an impact on this? I'm not in a band, but have been, I suppose The Libertines have had some impact on this, I've learnt some songs on guitar and many times jammed to Libertines songs with friends. But my musical inspirations more lie elsewhere.

Tyrannosaur
nvyqXFmV-LI I watched this last night, it was pretty good, perhaps not quite as good as some people have been making out though. It's incredibly dark, like literally there is nothing positive going on in the film at all, all the main characters aren't portrayed in great light. The cast were excellent, especially Oliva Colman, I thought Peter Mullan was very good aswell.
