Totally different types of singer - Leona far, far more impressive when asked to give a straight performance. Alexandra moves better when she's given a few backing dancers and a vocally enhanced backing track. Always found the Louis thing on X-Factor re: needing to dance a load of old nonsense - most of the greatest artists in the history of music haven't "danced" to their songs.

Inner Massivia New Music Melody Express Inner Massivia's BJSC jury met in the exclusive Chart Club in Attacktonia's Alt Markt on Sunday evening to hear the semi-final draw for BJSC XIII which is being hosted by last month's winners Kopečka. In a live ceremony beamed directly from Zagorasta, Kopeček Chancellor Čermet Karasol offered a warm welcome to the other 43 countries who will be travelling to Kopečka for the contest. He then announced the draw for the semi-finals. Voting slips for this month's jurors are available from Fred behind the bar. Once all members of the jury have voted, Noel will tally the scores and they will be faxed through to Kopečka.

People vastly over estimate the influence of "radio mixes" in boosting sales. Only obsessive completists feel the need to buy a radio edit which is substantially the same as the album edit, bar being a bit shorter for Radio 1. When was the last time we saw a radio edit chart highly when the album version of the song had already been charting highly on iTunes for some time? Most consumers either search by looking at the top 100 tracks or go via the album. The only time you tend to see multiple entries is of a first single when the album is released so the album track enters, or in Kid Cudi's case a highly repressed release hits iTunes in a number of versions and people aren't sure which is the main one so you get a series of entries in the confusion.

You're also notice that Leona and Alexandra have swapped places in the Hit40UK chart as a result of the removal of physicals.

And remembering that in 2006 when Leona won it was an abysmal year for sales in the top 40 - the lowest in at least 20 years. Caught between the rock of falling physicals and the hard place of a digital market still tentatively finding its feet. A Moment Like This wasn't even available on iTunes initially - you had to get texted a code from the ITV website and then download from the extremely new 7Digital.

Something for you all to do whilst worrying about the next iTunes update! Anyone want to try out the new streaming service Spotify? Got a few invites to give away while it's in its early stages - all free at the moment and seems to have a huge catalogue of stuff on there. Been listening to Lady GaGa's album earlier followed by a bit of Bowie, some Saturdays then the Stones. Seems to be backed by all the majors. Very easy to use and the little bit of software is very unobtrusive. Quality of the stream is excellent so far. Anyone interested PM me your email and I'll forward an invite while they last.

Couldn't agree more. I really like how The Saturdays have been debuted these last few months - good singles, videos that work, strong band identity, accessible yet not tipping over into desperate for publicity. It's been an impressively handled launch and should guarantee them a nice chart career I think.

Where wasn't I giving them credit? I really like the singles they've brought out - I think they're a refreshing change to what had become a slightly tired girl group scene. I was merely pointing out that after such huge sales it's more of a surprise Run hasn't dropped down further. It would apply to ANY record to take the artist out of this. There is no regardless as you can't take this weeks sales out of context of when the song was released and how much it has sold already. On the airplay front I've heard Issues loads this week - seems like they're partial to a bit of bum licking themselves ;)

zeus - thanks for the historical perspective, maybe you can answer a question - why the 1973 anomaly with three SIATOs? It looks really out of place when looking at the overall picture.

... to put it into perspective Run has already sold over 400k on its own and nearly 800k of the deluxe album - if anything it's a surprise it has lasted so long! Radio 1 has already dropped it from the playlist and it's been top 3 of iTunes for the best part of 6 weeks. Really happy for The Saturdays though - it's by far the best of the three girlband tracks currently in the charts.
