I seem to recall the OCC have a minimum cost for singles to be illegible. Does anyone know the exact figure or wording?
Eligibility is based on the price the album/single is sold to the retailer by the record company (the dealer price) not the price it is sold to the customer (the retail price).

She's been very lucky to get a perfect storm of sales with this release:
We have a creditable X-Factor winner
We have a song considered to be an all-time classic, and far better than the three previous winners were given
We have a chart "battle" which generated intense hype and publicity all week
We have four strong shopping days after hitting number 1 until Christmas ensuring great on-running sales
We have the strongest singles market for 4-5 years thanks to the continuing establishment of legal downloading
We have the closure of Zavvi's and Woolworth's with big discounts - in some of the Woolies stores that have already closed the single was being hawked off for 10p on the final day
==========
On the digital sales front, the highest seller as of Music Week on 15th December was:
"Lewis’s Bleeding Love is the only track to sell more than 500,000 downloads, with a current tally of 527,360"

if you ever send Sarah McLachlan to BJSC --->
12 points from FSR Rontvia
She guest starred on the Herzebania leg of the Inner Massivia BJSC XII promo tour and proved extremely popular singing a live version of Angel. Rumours have it she's penned in to support Melania Fiona the next time Inner Massivia visit Rontvia ...

Back to Black isn't combined though. I read something about one of Robbie's Albums being just above TAke That in the music week report.
It was combined in the Music Week Top 20 list of 21st Century sellers, even though it's not officially combined for chart purposes. The Robbie album was released in 1998 so won't be on this list.

My estimate of the latest figures:
1 BACK TO BEDLAM – JAMES BLUNT 3,150,000.
2 NO ANGEL – DIDO 3,030,000.
3 WHITE LADDER – DAVID GRAY 2,900,000.
4 BACK TO BLACK - AMY WINEHOUSE 2,840,000 (combined)
5 LIFE FOR RENT – DIDO 2,830,000
6 1 – THE BEATLES 2,795,000
7 SCISSOR SISTERS – SCISSOR SISTERS 2,705,000
8 A RUSH OF BLOOD TO THE HEAD – COLDPLAY 2,665,000
9 HOPES AND FEARS – KEANE 2,655,000
10 BEAUTIFUL WORLD _ TAKE THAT 2,525,685
11 SPIRIT - LEONA LEWIS 2,521,402
12 X&Y – COLDPLAY 2,515,000

Two confirmed set of figures from Music Week today:
Take That - Beautiful World 2,525,685
Leona Lewis - Spirit 2,521,402 (10th biggest seller of 21st C)
--------------
They've both almost certainly overtaken Coldplay's X&Y in the 21st Century list.
Now onto the status of Back To Black. That has sold another 513,000 this year in the deluxe edition according to the BJ/Haven year-to-dates.
I suppose it all depends on when that Music Week Top 20 in YorMomIsHot's post was published - by my calculation TT's Beautiful World had sold approx. 2,202,300 by the end of 2007 so it's clearly after that and quick search of the chart archive gives ...
From the 3rd March edition of Music Week
Back To Black [Deluxe Edition]- Amy Winehouse 424,395 (to date)
Back To Black - Amy Winehouse 2,006,836 (to date)
Total: 2,431,231
The week after that the Deluxe sold 31,118, and the original edition was two places behind Cascada who sold 5,508. This would take the total combined to 2.467m and almost identical to the figure in the top 20 listed above, so it looks like that 21st century chart is accurate up to the album chart of March 9th.
How much has BtoB added since?
BtoB DE this year: 513000
BtoB DE upto March 10th: 190186 (calculated from March 10th's figure minus the 2007 year end sales)
BtoB DE after March 10th: 323000
So BtoB's total sales will be around 2.79m plus the dregs of sales from the original edition since March 10th - call it 50k as it only spent two more weeks in the top 75, taking overall sales to 2.83m and probably into 4th place above Dido and The Beatles.
As such I'm assuming Alan Jones has split the Back to Black versions when he refers to Spirit being the 10 biggest seller of the 21st century.

What annoys me is that the media hype up someone to be 'the Voice of 07/08/09/whatever' based entirely on the fact that they are releasing a single in January.
In 2007 it was Mika and Just Jack. Just Jack disappeared completely, Mika had a few more hits but could you say he was the biggest act of 2007?
Well he has sold 5.4m of his album worldwide so far and was huge in Europe. In 2007 he had the third biggest selling album in the UK and 4th worldwide.
As for Adele, the 'Voice of 08', that was entirely based on hype over Christmas leading up to her January release... but she wasn't even the biggest act of 08 in her own genre, as Duffy had totally eclipsed her by the Spring.Adele was picked by the BBC and the Brits - Duffy was second in the BBC poll so hardly much between them and she was bigged up by a few in the media over Adele.

That's a terrible song! It's just an endless, repetitive chant. TBH, though I like the Beatles, I found much of what I heard from George Harrison rather dull, and doubt it would've seen the light of day had it not been by an ex-Beatle. Sorry, don't mean to offend Beatle fans!
He did write Something and While My Guitar Gently Weeps which to be fair, are better songs than most songwriters will ever come close to penning.

I know the ABBA writer Carl Magnus Palm. I've E-mailed him about the 'Glasgow'
matter, & here is his reply:,
They are definitely singing Glasgow , whatever Björn and Benny may or may not have told the BBC Radio people at the time. Also, Björn has discussed the choice of “ Glasgow ” for the lyrics in at least one fairly recent interview.
And as for them not having been in Glasgow , ABBA had played there twice (in 1977 and 1979) by the time the Super Trouper lyrics were written.
CMP
Me again - ABBA did 2 Concerts in Glasgow:,
1977 Tour - Apollo Theatre - February 12th
1979 Tour - Apollo Theatre - November 13th
If there was a post of the year on Pulse, zeus should be awarded it. Now that's amazingly definitive answer!

Who'll be big for '09?
in UK Charts
5 Grammy nominations to be strictly accurate ... the problem with Jazmine is she has yet to cross over from the RnB charts in America let alone making it big in the UK. She's had two big RnB chart hits but has barely dented mainstream and sales remain poor. Can you really see her making a splash here? Not convinced with her live performances either.
