I contacted the OCC earlier to ask about the cheap albums and have now received a reply - the chart eligibility is based on the price the record is sold to the retailer by the record company NOT the retail price to the customer. So for the sales to chart the minimum price that an album must bo sold to a retailer is £3.75 digital, £3.76 physical, however the retailer can sell it to you or me for 1p if they want. But there's another twist: "The chart rules refer to the dealer price and not to the actual retail selling price which is determined solely by the retailer, OCC does not set minimum selling prices in the chart rules. Amazon is not currently a chart reporting retailer so their sales will not be included in the UK charts this week."

Think they're referring to my post where I've tried to extend the thread to include digital sales when a physical is also out. I mentioned Shayne and Leona but I'm highly sceptical of the digital numbers for both given the market was far less developed.

Radio 1 are having a Masterpieces week on Zane Lowe's show - Monday was Stone Roses - Stone Roses, Tuesday - Rage Against The Machine - RATM, tonight is Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon and Thursday is Prodigy - Fat Of The Land. They have a one hour documentary and then play the album in full without interruptions. Also play tracks throughout the day on other Radio 1 shows.

Amazon put on some incredible deals on their mp3 store in the States. The worry I'd have with come of these £3 albums is are the sales chart eligible? I thought there was a minimum price stipulation in effect.
