  1. cheers for that - I only had a rough out of date figure of 2.9m for Spice from 3-4 years back. Thought it might have got a boost ffrom the Spice Girls reunion tour to take it over 3m.
  2. It's whether the album Spice has sold 3m, as Wannabe is a confirmed 1m seller, as is 2 Become 1 (good spot).
  3. Is Oasis's Wonderwall the only confirmed million selling single from an album that has sold 3 million? Looking at the list Wannabe from Spice might be the other closest candidate as Spice was hovering around 2.9m last figure I saw.
  4. You have to remember it must have already sold close to 5 million in the UK in single or album form (both the artist's album and an appearance on various compilations such as Now).

  14. The one thing I get from this whole thread is: Jedward are vile is to debating what Jedward are to music.
  15. Cowell is a very large benefactor of a number of charities, particularly children's and animal charities. The irony given this thread being he doesn't make a fuss about it or look for publicity. The same applies to a lot of stars who donate time and money without looking for reward in terms of publicity. All proceeds from the single will go to charity - the record company (SonyME) won't make a single penny in profit. REM are donating their publishing royalties and the artists donating their performance royalties. Sales tax has been waived. Will all £3.99 go to charity? No. Some of the money will go to cover the costs of production and distribution as with ALL charity records and almost everything produced for sale by charities. Are people that naive to think things they buy from charities are free to produce and distribute? If you buy a pack of charity Christmas cards some of the money you pay go towards their production, distribution and sales costs. Same if you buy a poppy. Wake up and welcome to the real world people.
  16. Leona never seems to have trouble getting decent video treatments perhaps because she makes her objections and views known in private and gets on with it. Alex on the other hand likes to mouth off to the press frequently and says very little when doing it. It may have escaped your notice Berty that all acts these days have had to scale down their videos. They're just not generating enough revenue due to the collapse in album sales to justify the record company spending loads of money on expensive treatments for each single. It's the world we now live in.
  17. 6weeksatnumber7 posted a post in a topic in UK Charts
This list has been comprehensively ripped to shreds on other forums. So many clear errors it is laughable.
  18. Wasn't Shakira a pre-record?
  19. Given the way revenues are distributed to retailers, pressers, songwriters, VAT etc it's extremely doubtful that anything near that will be going towards the record company.
  20. I'm a huge BEP fan but I think it's one of the weakest singles they've released in the UK and a big disappointment after BBP and IGF.
  21. Leona definitely holds the singles (13 weeks) and combined (21 weeks) records for most weeks at number 1 by a UK female solo artist however Dido holds the album record as she has spent 17 weeks at number 1 in the album charts with No Angel (7 weeks) and Life For Rent (10 weeks).
  22. To be honest andy you're as bad as him at the moment. Can't the both of you just take a break for a few days and leave the thread in peace? We know that JM1 is rooting for Leona and you're rooting for BEP. We don't need to see it 2 or 3 times per page from both of you. You've established your positions quite forcibly. There are a lot more than 2 songs in the chart.
  23. I think they've definitely shortened the rolling aspect of the chart. I was convinced it was 72 hours about a year back but most recent evidence points to your 24 hour theory. I wouldn;t be surprised if they have changed it at various stages though.
  24. Only seen that on the Tesco website which I don't think anyone uses. It's standard price at all the major music download stores. Price is set by the retailer - the 29p deals beloved of Amazon are used as loss leaders to increase market share.
  25. Bizarre fact of the day: we've had 12 straight urban-leaning number 1s.
