  1. That 22 hours did include around 10 hours of iTunes being down for scheduled maintenance as well.
  2. This is like the fastest rise up iTunes EVA !!!
  3. It's not being released tomorrow, been removed from the HMV download store and iTunes is saying November 3rd. And to be fair to Bleeding Love it was selling enough 5 weeks down the line to have outsold the #1 in 40 of the 43 previous non-Bleeding Love weeks (only the peak week of Umbrella, 500 miles and Grace Kelly would have beaten Bleeding Love's 5th week). It's sales longevity went far beyond anything one promo appearance could provide. She may be good live, but not that good. The song sold so well so quickly because it was brilliant modern pop, as shown the world over where it went to #1 without a piggyback from a big promo appearance. As for Forgive Me - I'm really unsure how well it'll do as it's been "available" for 7 months now and all the "hardcore" fans will have it. And with her being away so much unless she has a blitz of TV appearances before the release I don't think the buzz will be there.
  4. Also: 102. Can't Speak French - Girls Aloud 109. Call the Shots - Girls Aloud

All three would have done well without X-Factor.

On Irish iTunes The Promise is upto #38 already, Forgive Me is #13, both added earlier. Not sure what relevance that has to the UK or this discussion though ;) And when I checked earlier Forgive Me was still not available to purchase on UK iTunes until November 3rd.
  8. Leona now not appearing on X-Factor before song is released - she's on two weeks later.
  9. Can I humbly apologise for the intelligent insult, I'll make sure not to use it again ;) I actually think the general public is over charity records as a concept now. Sales have been diminishing across the board.
  10. Norma - you're far too intelligent to play the "there was no sticker" game. The fact it was in the likes of Tesco etc and they only ever stock charity singles, coupled with Peter Kay's track record of charity records recently has helped create the impression it was a charity single, as did much of the pre-media. A thought supplanted, even if not deliberately, is not an easy one to shake. That's not to say everyone is buying it because it was for charity, but you can't just dismiss the idea so glibly. Of course only the terminally thick wouldn't have realised the show (if not the record) was a brilliantly hilarious spoof, but in the same way that Coolnav and gremley are clearly defending the Saturdays' corner, you're not shy on the old Gary Barlow front yourself, with you providing the stormtroopers on Take That TV with hourly updates on R Gary's progress up this week's chart ;)
  11. To be fair to those you're castigating so heavily Norma, the impression in the lead up to the release in many newspapers/online media was the song was charity related and once that impression has taken hold it's a hard one to shake.
  12. I think Mambo Number 5 could do better than most people think.

It'll be very similar to his face on Saturday after seeing Leon's performance <_<

It's not just the Saturdays catching Leon, it's Leon failing to catch his namesakes and Pink. He's in serious danger of failing to make number 1. In fact I'll call it now - he won't.
  16. 1) Amy Winehouse's sales of the deluxe edition were recorded separately by the Official Chart Company, which is why both the original and deluxe albums charted at the same time. Though in reports they're normally lumped together when discussing her sales. 2) They're currently redrawing the rules on deluxe edition "extras" which may allow more songs to be added, thus allowing Duffy's deluxe sales to be added to the original album sales and thus just one chart entry.

My latest feed now has Saturdays upto #21 with Up, and Leon still at #11. With or Without You upto #48.
  18. I like Duffy a lot but this is a very disappointing pastiche.
  19. If it's any consolation, the four biggest selling albums in the world this year are by UK artists.
  20. Back to November 3rd now ;)
  21. More from HDD: THEY WILL POSSESS YOUR CHART: Death Cab for Cutie's second major label release, on Atlantic, will top next Tuesday's chart with a projected first-week tally of 140-150k, spurred by the hit single I Will Possess Your Heart. That puts the Seattle PoMo band far ahead of Reprise's still-dead Frank Sinatra, who'll bow in the neighborhood of 80-85k, and Island/IDJ's Mariah Carey, with an expected 65-70k. The debuting Jason Mraz (Atlantic) and Leona Lewis (Syco/J/RMG), should complete the Top 5, as both roll toward 60-65k. Welsh thrush Duffy (making her debut on the revived Mercury label), who's riding a growing buzz from her irresistible single Mercy, will battle second-weeker Neil Diamond (Columbia) and the down-sliding Madonna (WB) for the sixth position, as all three head toward 55-60k. Toby Keith (Showdog/UMe) should wind up at #9, with 45-50k, while a fifth debut, 10 Years (Universal Republic), will vie with Keith Sweat (Rhino), both trending toward 30-35k. And now, we return our focus to the second round of the NBA Playoffs. (5/16a) 01 Death Cab for Cutie: 140-150k 02 Frank Sinatra: 80-85k 03 Mariah Carey: 65-70k 04 Jason Mraz: 60-65k 04 Leona Lewis: 60-65k 06 Duffy: 55-60k 06 Neil Diamond: 55-60k 06 Madonna: 55-60k 09 Toby Keith: 45-50k 10 Keith Sweat: 30-35k 10 10 Years: 30-35k
  22. She's at #5 this week, a new peak.
  23. Chic's "Le Freak" is the only song in history to hit the #1 spot on the Hot 100 on three separate occasions during its chart run: 1978 December 9 "Le Freak" Chic December 16 "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" Barbra Streisand and Neil Diamond December 23 "Le Freak" Chic December 30 "Le Freak" Chic 1979 January 6 "Too Much Heaven" Bee Gees January 13 "Too Much Heaven" Bee Gees January 20 "Le Freak" Chic January 27 "Le Freak" Chic February 3 "Le Freak" Chic
  24. Previous bests by UK female solo artists Both Amy Winehouse (Back To Black: highest weekly sales 115k the week after her 5 Grammy wins) and Joss Stone (Introducing Joss Stone: highest sales 110k in its first week) peaked at #2. Natasha Bedingfield (Pocketful Of Sunshine; 56k) peaked at #3. Dido peaked at #4 with both No Angel and Life For Rent (which held the record for highest debut week sales at 191,578 until this week). A possible challenger to Leona as first to have a #1 on the Billboard 200? Possible exception: Olivia Newton-John reached #1 in 1975 - she was born in the UK but had emigrated with her family to Australia at the age of 5 and became an Australian citizen before getting her #1 on the Billboard 200. A name often suggested wrongly Sade, which many people often quote erroneously, wasn't a solo artist but a group named after the lead singer, in the same way that Bon Jovi was a group named after Jon Bon Jovi. The only other female act to hit #1 All female group: The Spice Girls hit the top spot as a female group with their first album Spice.
