The US Billboard Chart Double - UK Artists
Irrespective of the chance of the double, I think she'd be the first UK female solo act to have a #1 album there. Only other possibility is Olivia Newton John in 1975 who was born in the UK but was an Aussie citizen at the time.

CHART Info: Leona Lewis, first UK female to top the HOT 100
Looks like this will be the chart with the approximate numbers thrown in: 1. Mariah 400 chart points 2. Usher 253 3. Madonna 245 4. Leona 230 5. Ray J & Yung Berg 220 6. Jordin/Chris Brown 211 7. Lil Wayne ft. StatiC Major 203 8. Chris Brown 196 9. Sara Bareilles 188 10. Flo Rida 182 Madonna lower than expected as she didn't sell as well as I'd thought (25k less - I was assuming Mariah 300k, Madonna 240k, Leona 180k, Usher 130k - real figures 286k, 217k, 187k, 132k).

CHART Info: Leona Lewis, first UK female to top the HOT 100
Officially published Thursday but normally leaks around midnight tonight UK time. The digital sales figures will be released in around two to three hours and combined with the rolling mediabase airplay charts you're usually able to tell who is number #1. However even before then we know it'll definitely be Mariah as she has been top of iTunes all week (ahead of Madonna and Leona) and this closely mirrors the digital sales chart. One Chicago radio station well connected to the Carey camp is claiming Touch My Body has sold 296k, breaking the debut week sales record held by Rihanna's Umbrella. Mariah is also #3 in airplay impressions with Usher at #2 and Chris Brown at #1. Leona will be around #17 in airplay (around 55m behind Usher and Mariah as she has no Urban radio support) with Madonna around #40. Chart will be: 1) Mariah 2) Madonna 3) Usher 4) Leona - I'd suggest Usher above Leona as she'd need to sell 80k more than him again this week to stay ahead (1m airplay = 1k in sales on the chart). Unlikely.

CHART Info: Leona Lewis, first UK female to top the HOT 100
Again it depends what your definition of the "hard way" is - apparently Duffy is doing it hard even though her promo is remarkably similar to Leona's in A-list status for a new artist. Which isn't a logical argument to make. Of course Leona having Clive Davis shouting for her is going to help loads because of his reputation, but there's some bizarre claims in this thread from UK artists can't get on US iTunes to the guaranteed airplay thing for Bleeding Love when the airplay has been very slow building up for with sales far ahead of the curve. It's only the tenth most played now on CHR/Pop (28th on RHY, no support on URB or URB AC) and that's after being one of the three most downloaded songs on US iTunes for the last 3 weeks including a 10 day stay at the top - that stay at the top beginning as Leona was flying across the Atlantic after Sport Relief, having only made one brief US appearance previously on MTV's TRL about 5 weeks earlier when the US version of the video was released. So why the early pre-Oprah sales advance? Well perhaps the call out scores from radio station listeners these last two weeks gives a clue. They've seen Bleeding Love get very high positive ratings. For example Mediabase's current top 10 rated CHR songs by listeners are: 1 LEWIS, LEONA Bleeding Love 76.2 12.3 63.8 2 BAREILLES, SARA Love Song 73.6 20.7 53.0 3 CYRUS, MILEY See You Again 69.8 22.1 47.6 4 SPARKS, JORDIN No Air (f/Chris Brown) 68.1 21.4 46.7 5 ONEREPUBLIC Stop & Stare 68.0 18.7 49.3 6 USHER Love In This Club f/Y. Jeezy 67.5 20.3 47.2 7 FLO RIDA Low (f/T-Pain) 67.0 30.4 36.6 8 RIHANNA Don't Stop The Music 66.5 28.6 37.9 9 BROWN, CHRIS With You 64.6 27.6 37.0 10 TIMBALAND/ONEREPUBLIC Apologize 64.5 32.8 31.7 where the first number is a positive response to the song, the second a negative and the third the net positive. ratethemusic.com has this as its CHR top 10: 1) Bleeding Love Leona Lewis 2) 4 Minutes Madonna & Justin Timberlake 3) No Air Jordin Sparks w/ Chris Brown 4) Don't Stop The Music Rihanna 5) Stop & Stare OneRepublic 6) Love Song Sara Bareilles 7) Apologize Timbaland f/ OneRepublic 8) Feels Like Tonight Daughtry 9) See You Again Miley Cyrus 10) With You Chris Brown These are the rankings which drive airplay - radio programmers are notoriously conservative in the States and unless they see good scores they're not going to up the spins or programme in prime time. It's the song which seems to be hitting the right note more than the promo. And for that Ryan Tedder, who spotted Leona's potential and contacted SonyBMG with the song offering to produce, should be congratulated.

This is the same Duffy who is on the Jay Leon's Tonight Show later this month? And Regis and Kelly? And Late Night with Conan O'Brien? Is VH1's "You Oughta Know" artist? And MTV's "Download and Discover" artist? And is being followed by US MTV for a weekly documentary? Was US iTunes free single of the week? Is a Rolling Stone artist to watch? The same Duffy who was hothoused by her record company for 4 years with writers and producers and was pimped all over Jools Holland three times before releasing Mercy? Duffy is getting incredible support and promotion on both sides of the Atlantic from her record company. She deserves it as I love her music, but to suggest she's "having to work really hard" where as Leona isn't when they both have very similar promotional schedules is quite frankly bizarre. You also don't get to hear about the radio promotion Leona has been doing in Chicago, New York, LA, Boston etc visiting stations for interviews and the like - Duffy will be doing the same soon. It's the important but unsexy stuff that underpins any artist. Duffy's soon off to do the same sort of European promotion Leona's just come off the back of.

CHART Info: Leona Lewis, first UK female to top the HOT 100
A cursory inspection of US iTunes reveals the following newish UK female artists have broken down all the barriers to secure a lucrative place on there: Adele, Duffy, Estelle (mk. II), Kate Nash, Leona Lewis, Lily Allen etc etc Anyone with a deal to distribute their singles/albums in the States gets added. A couple of weeks back Duffy's Mercy was the even free track of the week with a big advert in the middle of the home page. Duffy has also managed to get chosen for this month's lucrative VH1 "You Oughta Know" artist slot guaranteeing airplay of her video. She succeeds Leona. Who succeeded Estelle.

You seem to be struggling with some basic facts - it became the best selling song in the USA 15-16 days ago before Oprah and whilst radio airplay lagged way behind - even today though rising fast Bleeding Love is only the 10th most played song on CHR/Pop.The last three weeks have seen it rise 66 --> 51 --> 37 on Hot100's overall airplay: even the latest daily impression stats see it still outside the top 20. So despite Davis and Cowell's omnipotent influence over the last 8-9 weeks since it "went to adds" (the song itself was released 14 weeks ago), there are many brave resistance fighters holding out at besieged radio stations. Either that or Cowell and Davis are rubbish at making sure it's added to radio. All songs get pushed towards radio - as Duffy and Estelle's now are. Leona's was just another example.

that's as ludicrous as suggesting she's mainly got to where she is because of Simon Cowell. What's often forgotten is every record company is competing to get its artists on various shows. For instance there's a huge weight of promotion behind breaking Duffy in the USA at the moment - almost mirrors show for show the Leona push. But what's clear with both artists and their signature singles is airplay and sales have preceeded promo because they're damn fine songs by fresh new artists (hitting number 1 on US iTunes as Leona did before doing any live performances is exceptionally rare - but the signs were there as she's been the highest sales gainer on the Hot100 for three consecutive weeks). Perhaps it's Ryan Tedder and Bernard Butler who should be getting the lion's share of any reflected glow?

They were all American as far as I'm aware. The confusion often arises because they had UK success and were signed to a Uk record label before hitting it big in the States. Hot100 number 1s by UK artists since 1990: 2008 Leona Lewis - "Bleeding Love" 2006 James Blunt - "You're Beautiful" 1997-98 Elton John - "Something About the Way You Look Tonight"/"Candle In The Wind 1997" 1997 Spice Girls - "Wannabe" 1995 Seal - "Kiss From a Rose 1993 UB40 - "Can't Help Falling in Love" 1992 George Michael and Elton John - "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" 1992 Right Said Fred - "I'm Too Sexy" 1991 EMF - "Unbelievable" 1990 Maxi Priest - "Close To You" 1990 George Michael - "Praying for Time" 1990 Phil Collins - "Another Day in Paradise"

Predict: Leona Lewis - "Better In Time"/"Footprints"
So no-one knows really? All I've seen is all profits from the single go to charity.
-
Predict: Leona Lewis - "Better In Time"/"Footprints"
it doesn't though, does it? A % goes to the retailer, a % to production costs etc And does the 77p refer to the digital single or the physical single?
-
Predict: Leona Lewis - "Better In Time"/"Footprints"
Think she'll get #4 - as has been said she's sold far too many albums to make subsequent singles obvious number 1s.

THIS IS THE LIFE ~ AMY MACDONALD #1 but yours for about £5
Given the nominations were being voted for over a month back, it's hardly surprising given her very limited impact up till then.

[Countdown] Buzzjack Number 1 Of The Year 2007
When did you run the poll James? Seem to have missed this one entirely! Ignore that! Just sussed out it's your knock-out poll.

Certifcation Question
I'm not sure that is right the current classifications have been around since at least the early 80s.
-
Certifcation Question
I don't - albums are more expensive than singles. Think the levels are fine.
