  1. There's something clearly wrong with the list as the poster above mentions. Take Leona Lewis and Bleeding Love for example - it's been A-listed for the best part of 9 weeks plus B listing for I think a couple of weeks before that, and it doesn't even reach 81 plays to make the top 48? That's only just over 1 play a day. Doesn't add up.

Yes but only at a lowish bit rate. They have a huge fan basis and the album has been in the top 5 of nearly all the end of year "best of" polls.

    Quite easily I think.
  4. As Knightr634 has said, no UK female solo act has ever sold 1 million copies of a single. Though UK female artists have achieved the feat as part of: 1976 M Brotherhood Of Man Save Your Kisses For Me 1977 MM Paul McCartney & Wings Mull Of Kintyre / Girl's School 1981 M The Human League Don't You Want Me 1982 M Dexy's Midnight Runners Come On Eileen 1984 MMM Band Aid Do They Know It's Christmas 1983 (M) New Order Blue Monday 1996 M Spice Girls Wannabe 1996 M Spice Girls 2 Become 1 1997 M Various Artists Perfect Day 1997 M All Saints Never Ever 1998 M Steps Heartbeat / Tragedy 2001 M Hear'Say Pure And Simple 2004 M Band Aid 20 Do They Know It's Christmas? Thanks to everyhit.com for the stats, don't think I've missed anyone.
  5. Is there a top 50 option?
  6. UK female artist not act - the Spice Girls had 8 consecutive weeks at number 1 with Spice in 1996/97. Leona beats Dido's record of 6 consecutive weeks with No Angel in 2001. She now holds the following chart records: UK Chart Records Update Fastest selling single by a female artist: Leona Lewis - A Moment Like This, 571,253 in its first week Fastest selling debut album in UK Chart history: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 375,872 in its first week Quickest million selling album by a solo artist: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 29 days Most consecutive weeks at number 1 by a single from a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love, 7 weeks Most consecutive weeks at number 1 by an album from a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - Spirit, 7 weeks Most cumulative weeks at number 1 in the history of the singles chart by a UK female artist: Leona Lewis - 11 weeks
  7. I thought there was some obscure rule that chart albums under £5 didn't count towards the chart?
  8. With Spirit at number 1 in the album charts for 6 consecutive weeks Leona equals the record set by Dido's "No Angel" for a UK female solo artist.
  9. 13. Think it's more of a reflection on how badly everyone else has done on physicals. Most of those at the top have been in the charts for a considerable number of weeks and after the initial burst of enthusiasm for a single its sales are almost entirely downloads. It'll be interesting to see how long Leona's "download tail" will be with Bleeding Love. Her sales target must surely be to overtake A Moment Like This.
  14. Just a quick meander as we wait for today's charts. How have the Tuesday midweeks compared to the final Sunday charts this year? Has the number 1 in the singles and albums on Tuesday always been number 1 on Sunday or have some acts been very frontloaded and fallen down as the week went on.

I've seen more ads for Kylie's album than I have for either of those acts - depends when you're watching TV I suppose.
  16. Leona deposed after 35 days at number #1 !!
  17. Chris - the single was selling virtually nothing online and physical sales are usually biased to the start of the week when the core fanbase rush out to buy multiple copies. As for the album, it's been very tight from 2-7 all week and there's been plenty of changes there.

Alicia Keys has just sold 760,000 copies of her album in one week in the States. Carrie Underwood topped half a million in her first week of release as well. Rihanna's success has been phenomenal this year. Beyounce keeps beyouncing along. And Leonazilla is just about to devour the rest of the world.
  19. 1. OneRepublic Ft Timbaland – Apologize (favourite) 2. Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah 3. Kaiser Chiefs – Ruby 4. Ne*Yo – Because Of You 5. Dannii Minogue – Touch Me Like That 6. Enrique Iglesias – Do You Know? [The Ping Pong Song] 7. Natalie Imbruglia – Glorious 8. Kelis Ft Cee-Lo – Lil Star 9. Klaxons – Golden Skans 10. The Cribs – Men’s Needs (worst)
  20. Wouldn't disagree with anything you've said there zeus, was just trying to put into perspective the sales figures announced on Sunday which had been described as "underwhelming" earlier. The world is full of one single, one album wonders and no one can predict with any confidence Ms Lewis' future career.
  21. The fourth fastest selling album of all time in the UK? Underwhelming? I think some perspective is needed here away from the bubble of internet forums where giddy fans predict massive numbers or anti-fans play down any achievement. This week Ms Lewis has sold an album faster than any of these acts ever have: The Beatles, The Who, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones, Madonna, The Police, Elvis Presley, Whitney Houston, Abba, AC/DC, David Bowie, The Jam, Nirvana, Robbie Williams, U2, Take That, Mariah Carey, Bruce Springsteen, The Spice Girls, Boyzone, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Westlife, Radiohead, Pulp, Stevie Wonder, Blur, The Smiths, Kylie Minogue, Wham, Metallica, Celine Dion, Bob Dylan .... etc etc Now love her or hate her, or even hold a strong feign of indifference, that is not underwhelming.
  22. Runrig are a Scottish band who have been around for ages - bit like Marillion in style they've often been compared to. Theirs ong is the official Children In Need song in Scotland and is a live version of a fans favourite which has never ben released as a single before. The fact it's got to higher in the iTunes chart than the Spice Girls Official UK Children In Need song (which peaked at 12) must be a bit embarrassing.
  23. Turn the question around. Why do those acts mentioned have such difficulty writing/recording two decent singles?
  24. Apparently they're looking at a February 28th release date for the next single.
