Will Kylie be like Shakira in 2006?
If she avoids the Leonazilla. It's going to be a difficult market post-Christmas as so many well known artists have released albums and need the boost of a successful second single, so there'll be a huge amount of jockeying for a week which is relatively opposition free.

Leona beating Spice Girls in album chart
Sanest words in the thread. The world of music is scattered with artists who hit big and then faded away. And with those who've tried to crack the notoriously insular and protectionist American market. Who knows how Leona will fare? The one thing she has in her favour is she can sing the hind legs off a donkey and performing live is the backbone of breaking the States. With the right approach and a lot of hard work she has a chance of breaking there. But as thisispop says, categorically stating she'll become a world megastar is about as idiotic as saying she'll flop badly after this album. The world is far greyer than either of these monochrome alternatives.

So to get this right, you're against manufactured artists who come out of TV shows on principal, unless they write their own material. Except for when you like the band in which case it's ok for them to have all their sound manufactured with all their songs written and produced by someone else? <_<

Predict: Leona's [Spirit] album sales
Leona's album trouncing Spice Girls Leona Lewis is outselling the Spice Girls by four to one on the first day of their album chart battle - and challenging for the fastest-selling UK debut of all time. Copies of her album, Spirit, are flying off the shelves across the UK. The X Factor winner is on course to sell around 100,000 copies by Monday's end, according to industry estimates. The Spice Girls are managing just a quarter of that figure with their Greatest Hits. At HMV stores, Lewis is outselling the rest of the top 10 combined. If sales continue at this rate, she is on target to shift around 350,000 copies by the end of the week. That will put her within touching distance of the record for a UK debut. Arctic Monkeys currently hold that record with Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, which sold 363,735 copies in its first week of release in January 2006. The other big release of the week, Led Zeppelin's Mothership, is at number four, behind Celine Dion's Taking Chances. Lewis, 22, winner of last year's X Factor, is already celebrating after her single, Bleeding Love, became the biggest selling song of the year on Sunday. It has sold 111,978 copies over the last seven days. HMV's Gennaro Castaldo said: "Leona's success is all the more remarkable as this is a huge week for Christmas releases, with heavyweight albums from the likes of the Spice Girls, Led Zeppelin and Celine Dion. "There has been a growing feeling over the past few weeks that this album would be huge, particularly following the success of Bleeding Love and the impact of Leona's appearance on X Factor. But, if anything, Spirit may even go on to exceed these high expectations. "Who could have predicted Leona would have come back from her year away in such dramatic style - that's' some superstar makeover she's been through!" Atomic Kitten REUNITE...
They're definitely reuniting for a concert in Liverpool in January called The Number One Project. It's to celebrate the opening of the new arena on the Docks with the idea that everyone who was from Liverpool and performed on a UK number 1 record over the history of the charts performs. As long as they're still alive! Apparently Liverpool holds the record for the most number 1's from any city in the world with over 50. Other prominent acts from the city will also perform covers of some of the number 1s. The 56 Number Ones Artist Year Song Title Lita Roza 1953 How Much Is That Doggy In The Window? We are aiming to raise at least £1 million to distribute among 6 of the city’s leading charities, The Liverpool Echo Sunrise Appeal, The Marina Dalglish Appeal, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Radio City’s Give A Child A Chance, Radio Merseyside Charitable Trust and The Marie Curie Liverpool Hospice Appeal. January 21st 2008 will see the release of a single featuring the hottest nationally and internationally acclaimed artists from Merseyside’s past and present. The release of the single is timed to commemorate the launch of Liverpool as European Capital of Culture. The single will be a double A side release produced by Ian Broudie. We will decide the other songs for the single when we hear the finished versions and they will be released as two separate physical singles and on all download platforms, with three other (as yet undecided) songs completing the formats. The single will be followed on January 28th by “Covers and Collaborations – The Number Ones Album” a celebration of Liverpool’s world record for being the city with the most number of chart topping singles. The album will feature unique cover versions of some of the 56 number one singles performed by its leading artists. The remainder will be for sale via the project’s website www.thenumberoneproject.org. The single and album will be available to buy at all major record stores across the UK and in digital download formats while sponsors Bacardi are investing heavily in helping us directly market the records online and at retail. The list of songs and artists is hugely exciting and the album will be a must have item for anyone who is a fan not just of Liverpool but of great songs and great recordings. The project kicks off on January 19th with a huge charity concert at Liverpool’s new Kings Dock Arena where a wide variety of artists will perform the 56 number ones. This show is being promoted by Chas Cole at CMP Entertainment, who is responsible for the city’s hugely successful Summer Pops series among many other world class shows. The arena has a capacity of 10,000, and there are many different packages available for the night. We are in negotiations with our broadcast partners Initial/Endemol regarding TV coverage across the week commencing January 21st, with the shows featuring documentary footage of Liverpool’s musical heritage presented by its myriad of successful artists, intercut with performances from the arena show. The arena show itself will also be released as a stand alone DVD with all proceeds going to the six charities. Already the key media in the region have come together in a unique partnership to promote the project across their networks and readerships, as have the six charities. The combined reach of all these organizations and their databases is huge and we are adding associates and affiliates to the list daily. All net proceeds from the project are going to the charities, we really hope you find the project an exciting proposition and can help us in whatever way you can in making it a success and helping properly celebrate our fabulous city in its proudest year.

Leona beating Spice Girls in album chart
Personally, I can't believe that anyone with a brain wouldn't see that BOTH the Arctic Monkeys and Leona Lewis are highly talented artists. They may be different styles of music but they're both clearly very, very good at what they do.

Leona beating Spice Girls in album chart
A collection of good songs well sung doesn't always make a good album - I think that's what many of the critics are saying. I think they mostly wanted a bit more variety in tempo. But these days does it really matter? Who actually listens to an album in full start to finish? The album as a "concept" doesn't exist in pop as we all iPod our way through life creating playlists to our own design. We can mix slow and mid tempo from an artist like Leona with up tempo disco electronica.
